Patrick Huard's brainchild is shot in an exciting visual style and overcomes its satirical if admittedly corny plot - part Se7en, part Slap Shot - about two reluctant partner cops (one from Ontario, one Quebecois) who must track down the man masterminding revenge on all those Ame... read morericans ruining Canada's lifeblood: hockey. A bit formulaic in some aspects, completely novel in others, and fun from beginning to end; the satire strikes a bit too close to its target - the Maple Leafs and Canadiens have been filled in for by the "Loyalists" and "Patriotes" - but this film makes a good commentary on Canadian language politics while providing plenty of laughs and a few chills along the way. Good flick.

An explosive and wickedly entertaining thriller. Great non-stop fun that packs plenty of action, suspense and outragiously funny laughs. A teriffic buddy cop comedy. Colm Feore and Patrick Huard have fantastic chemistry. An irresistable team. Brilliant, wild and fantastic. Stylis... read moreh, cool and hilarious. What a great movie. You'll be laughing so hard you will remember why you go to the movies in the first place. Completely and utterly enjoyable from start to finish. Full of wild and funny moments pluse some compelling character development. An original, fresh and classic action-comedy in the tradition of Rush Hour.

When a rather unorthodox crime touches the border between Ontario and Quebec, police squads in each province are forced to work together.

Two cops - as the title suggests, one 'bad' and the other 'good'. Throughout the movie they learn to annoy the crap out of each other, watch ... read moreeach other get beat up, learn a few things from one another and somehow even how to co-operate together.

In between all that the dialogue is just severely hilarious, showing the obvious differences between the two.

However, as the movie progresses each one seems to adopt a bit of the other's style.

Cinematography prepares us for a crazy 'cut to the chase' kind of movie, sometimes even eerie at times whereas hearing the two bicker back and forth at each other...you become completely engrossed in the story.

Over-the-top ludicrous but damn clever. Was most enjoyable!

In "Bon Cop, Bad Cop," the body of Benoit Brisset(Andre Robitaille) is found on the border of Ontario and Quebec and neither police force wants anything to do with it. So, they do the only reasonable thing and split responsibilities(only fair considering the... read more body is in two pieces), assigning Toronto detective Martin Ward(a miscast Colm Feore) who is aiming for a desk job and Montreal detective David Bouchard(Patrick Huard) to partner together to solve the case. Their first lead is a helicopter pilot named Luc Therrien(Sylvain Marcel).

"Bon Cop, Bad Cop" feels like a pilot for a television series and not a good one at that with little sympathy given to the victims. To be fair, there have been so many other cop buddy movies and television series over the years that "Life on Mars" played about the only card left. With sexism as old as time itself, the only original thing about this one is the Anglo-French conflict.(I kind of like the idea of living in a bilingual country, myself.) Ward is uptight while Bouchard plays fast and freely with the rules. At least, they are both divorced. And it is a shame because there are few enough movies that have hockey as a major plot point, especially with the playoffs right around the corner, that a little creativity would have gone a long way.

Your typical buddy cop picture, which follows the formula religiously. The added "twist" is that it's Canadian, so there are some new jokes, but you'll only get them if you grew up in Canada.

    Entertaining but nothing special.

This movie is at once distinctly Canadian and at the same time one of the most American things I have ever seen. The movie is about hockey, Ontario/Quebec relations and yet it is ultimately just a buddy cop shoot'em up. Lots of fun and in the grand American style makes almost no ... read moresense with lots of bullets car chases and explosions.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop Movie. This reminds me of a lot of the Turkish horror films I've seen recently, trying to emulate American genre flicks and having a strange non-American feel to it. Chase scenes cut to odd rock music, peculiar lighting and archetypal characters that, while bei... read moreng tweaked slightly to fit Canadian culture, ring false in the fact that they neither fit the archetype or anyone in reality. Pacing is non existent and characters act on things the audience knows nothing about (eg. Finding the two people trapped in a trunk in a parking garage). Plus, I'm afraid that a lot of the Canadian culture in this film is based more on how we are perceived by other countries than based in anything truly cultural. It's sad when our Country's culture is dictated by what others think of us.
However, I guess what truly makes this film "Canadian" is (I won't go the easy route and say "because it sucks") it's pigheaded resolve not to entertain the way an American film might, since that would be perceived as stooping down to their level.

Explosive, entertaining buddy movie. Once you'll see it, you'll know why it sold so well... Et puis, comme y faut être bilingue ici, ben... laissez-moi dire que c'est un bon divertissement comme on l'aime, malgré le scénario vraiment fragmenté qui a perdu de sa cohérence probable... read morement après être sorti la salle de montage...

This movie is so funny that I actually watched it TWICE (which I very rarely do because there is so little time and so many movies). And the second time around I watched it with a Canadian couple who were able to explain all the inside jokes that only Canadians would understand.... read more I just hope that they decide to put together the two detectives on another case. I will be the first in line to see it.

Madison Film Festival. Funny but I didn't really understand the plot or why people were being killed.

Its good-hearted probing of Canada's social and cultural balancing act likely will do more to promote harmony in Canada than a whole raft of political speeches. Full Review
