Blast from the past, this superb action movie from 1983 still stands tall.Yes its a little dated but the theme and story line stand up well even now.Roy Scheider give a wonderful perfromace as frank murphy a police helicopter polet with a dodgy past. What is the best thing about th... read moree movie is the dog fight in the last 30 mins or so.Its well done and with no CGI at the time makes the stunts so more incredable.Need to see to believe and even todays standed its still brillant and no film that i seen as come close. If you not seen it yet get a copy now and if you got a blu ray player see it in that its so cool...

Not a bad flick. This was good for the days when everything was about a super powered vehicle of some sort. The story is good and the acting wasn't half bad.

Even when I was a teenage boy, I still found this dull. Basically a helicopter gunship goes round shooting things and erm...well, that's about it. There isn't even that much action.

Awesome movie, no wonder I was hooked on helicopters as a kid with a movie like this and Airwolf on TV every week.

Ha,a terrible example of a chaotic script gone bad.An averagely made film, out of the huge number of productions specifically made for the "legendary" U.S. 80's of action-packed thrillers and methodical collisions. It's not really horrible. The unbelievably disjoint theory of helico... read morepters conquering the skies is a truly weak point,no human contains a decent storyline and even if it's not measured as Badham's late failures e.g. Nick of Time,it still was a film with potential.

High tech action yarn with fine acting by Scheider, Oates and Stern with McDowell playng a perfect sneering baddie. Cool dogfights with a bit of humor thrown in..this is one thrilling ride

I'll give this a three, though I do remember enjoying it a lot, I have a tough time recalling what I liked about it. I do however know that I really enjoyed McDowell as the baddie, he was the reason I rented it.

"I've been trying to get you all night. Why don't you answer your fucking beeper? I just wanna tell you, Jack, that the next time I'm suspended, so is my fucking beeper!"

Another bad 80s movie. The story is just so boring and predictable. In the end all the story is about is the big bad government chasing down, killing, or attempting to kill anyone who stand in it's way. Can one man save himself and expose the plot? It sounds exciting but there re... read moreally are no unseen plot twists. I almost fell asleep a few times during this movie. The acting is pretty terrible, which was common in the 80s. Not to say all 80s movies have bad acting but many do. I say skip this one, save yourself. Unless you are looking for a nap, the I say go for it.

Another 80's flick that finds itself relevent today. Politics, military equipment in police hands and invasion of privacy play just as well now as they did then.

As a cop-action flick this isn't bad, but it fits the mold so thoroughly that it feels more familiar than it should. Full Review

I've always had a weakness for Blue Thunder, which seemed terribly exciting during my teen years. More than two decades later, I can admit that it's not a great picture. But I still like it. Full Review

Despite some big lapses in logic, Blue Thunder is a thrilling action-adventure with a smart, cynical attitude and a villain (Malcolm McDowell) you'll just love to hate.
