Along with his business partner Eric Glomski, Keenan has managed to transform an arid stretch of Arizona desert into a lush vineyard that yields some particularly tasty grapes. Through unguarded conversations with Keenan and Glomski, Pomerenke and Page discover just what got the pair interested in winemaking, and why they chose such a hostile natural environment to serve as the site of their winery. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The half of this film that is an actual, serious documentary, is thoughtful and endearing, while the attempt at offhand humor bleeds false and uninteresting. Feeling padded to reach the 90 minute mark, this film would have worked much better as a shorter film. The lower thirds in... read moretroducing each person interviewed were the most creative graphics I have seen in a very long time, especially in a documentary, and they added the only truly unique feel to the film. Informative and meaningful, Blood Into Wine follows Maynard James Keenan and his wine-making venture quite wonderfully.

A meandering documentary that never finds its center. It attempt to do this humorous talk-show bit that never becomes humorous. If after 15-20 minutes your bored it doesn't get better. The wine and his life are interesting, but it never really gets to any interesting stuff.

Not entirely interesting, but watchable. If MJK wasn't so up his own ass, it would be nice, and if this doc focused more on humor and James Suckling/the other vineyards, it would be awesome. Alas, I'm not a huge drinker and could give a shit about any wine tasting, etc.

In terms of film techniques, Blood into Wine is a fairly mundane representation of Maynard James Keenan's efforts with music and wine, however, Keenan's sincerity, colorful cameos by modern celebrities, and a fairly interesting story make this movie worth watching. The film open... read mores up with comedy from Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, which was a pleasant introduction into the rather slow beginning of the movie. After things pick up, however slighlty that may be, the story carries itself well and the movie becomes much more rewarding. Overall, Blood into Wine is a welcome look into both the wine industry and one of modern rock's most interesting entertainers. 12.07.2011

A well-put together documentary combining great humor and feeling of the Tool frontman's venture into winemaking.

Well made documentary I thought. It didn't go through much of the process of making wine, it was more about the building of the vineyard, the people behind the wine (mainly Keenan) and meaning behind the wines they make.

Had I not already been a large Maynard James Keenan fan, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed this documentary at all. It's rather disjointed, and haphazardly thrown together in parts; however Maynard being such a compelling, drawing individual that he is, really seems to hold the f... read moreilm together. The film gives both an interesting look into Maynard himself, with the story of his mother, and carrying her memory on with his vineyard, and the passion that is held for the vineyard itself, and the love that both Maynard and Eric have for their craft.

It's an inconsistent film, put together somewhat haphazardly, but Keenan is such a compelling presence - smart, polite, creative and seemingly so full of bottled-up rage he might tear someone's head o... Full Review

It's edgy, it's funny, it revels in doing things its own way -- but it's also smart, offering an edifying inside peek into an industry that doesn't always welcome outsiders. Full Review

While the film contains some interesting tidbits about both wine and Keenan, and some unexpected humor by comedians like Patton Oswalt and Bob Odenkirk, the movie never really justifies its existence ... Full Review

Co-directors Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke manage to stuff a lot of facts into their film. This may be one of the more informative, nonfiction movies made about winemaking. Full Review
