Much like the animated film Watership Down, this movie has a lot of trouble deciding a targeted audience. It's far too dark for children yet has a kiddie plot. Both films are based on novels, but it's one thing to read about more mature things and quite another to see it.

    Absolutely beautiful work of art.

    Loved it.

Beautiful movie, beautiful music, beautiful scenes, beautiful horses!
This movie let us people see the life of a horse through his eyes. Now you can better understand what's like to be a horse, because this horse can 'talk' and has emotions like we have. But that doesn't make it... read more less sad. Unfortunately, even today, lots of horses have a life like Black Beauty. Even much worse...

Why are movies about wolves and movies about horses always the same!?

The perfect adaptation of the book, beautiful for adults and children alike. Good all round cast. Glorious music, atmosphere and acting, particularly by Thewlis and Bean. I have such fond memories of this film.
