The opening credit sequence backed with "Cosmic Dancer" was the only thing that grabbed my attention the whole movie.

An inspiring and uplifting tale of a poor boy using his talent to the full to secure himself a better life than his parents. Jamie Bell does great for himself in this.

Billy comes from a manly town who are in the middle of a manly strike... And Billy wants to be a ballet dancer. How much fun can we have with that? The movie was OK, but personally I didn't think much of Billy's dancing.
Critic Reviews
Billy Elliot is a feel-good movie that you don't have to feel bad about feeling good about.
Not trusting the audience to have any reaction that has not been completely stage-managed, [Hall and Daldry] lay on the sentimentality and the cliches as thick as they can, which is pretty thick. Full Review
The best dance film in ages.
Julie Walters ... is spirited and colorful as the ballet teacher, and Gary Lewis is somehow convincing as the dad even when the screenplay requires him to make big offscreen swings of position. Full Review
Tells a story that is entirely conventional and predictable, but it does so with great charm.
Its dry humor, earthy performances and distinctive take on the clash between art and life help it earn every tear and cheer.
The movie brims with visual wit.
