What's that wisecracking young black guy (Eddie Murphy) in that beat-up Chevy Nova doing in lily-white Beverly Hills? Warned by Beverly Hills police chief Ronny Cox to stay out of trouble, Foley nonetheless dogs the trail of above-the-law Steven Berkoff, the British crime czar who was responsible for the murder of Foley's friend. With the help of sympathetic local cops Judge Reinhold and John Ashton and lady friend Lisa Eilbacher, Foley attempts to corner Berkoff in his mansion, which leads to a wild slapsticky shootout. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Beverly Hills Cop is along with the first Lethal Weapon one of best buddy cop action films that blends bits of humor. Eddie Murphy gives a good performance here. The film works well as an action comedy, and this is one of the few films of Eddie Murphy's that I really enjoyed. He ... read morewas still good when he made this. Now, he's tired out, and needs to retire. Beverly Hills Cop has a good cast starring opposite Eddie Murphy, and the plot is very good as well. I normally don't like these types of films, but I surprisingly very much enjoyed this film. Beverly Hills Cop is entertaining and has some effective action mixed with good comedy. Eddie Murphy has made better films, but for what it is, Beverly Hills Cop is a fun, entertaining comedic action romp that will appeal to action buffs. The film at times falls flat, and is imperfect, but for the most part, it manages to be a good action film with good comedy elements., The cast do a fine job here, and the film is a must see for fans of Eddie Murphy. Beverly Hills Cop may not be perfect, but it has enough elements to keep you entertained till the very end. I enjoyed this film, thought it was a pleasant time waster and it had some memorable scenes, and good action to keep me entertained. Overall not an excellent film, but good enough to waste a good hour and thirty minutes. Beverly Hills Cop is a fun ride. Not perfect, but entertaining enough to keep you interested from start to finish.

Eddie Murphy performs fantastically as a street smart cop who does things a bit differently yet at the same time amazingly he brings the laughs along to a serious plotline.

It's hard to judge Beverly Hills Cop as the movie with modern Eyes. It's has been borrowed from, stolen from and imitated so much that most of it seems unoriginal. That said, it's a fun, easy to watch movie with a great performance by Murphy.

A streetwise cop from the projects of Detroit goes to Beverly Hills to investigate the execution-style murder of a childhood friend. Beverly Hills Cop was one of the first wave of 80s action-comedies that conquered the American box office and is still a formula followed to this d... read moreay. It's the story of a stranger in a strange land as the kid from the ghettos is amused and bemused by the playthings of the idle rich while seeing how the other half live...kind of a cop version of lifestyles of the rich and famous. There's actually very little to it; the plot is little more than a simplistic collection of cop show cliches and the film relies entirely on Eddie Murphy's smart-mouthed charm. The jokes aren't particularly witty or even funny and even the action is very thin on the ground; what holds it together is Murphy himself and Harold Faltermeyer's electro-pop soundtrack which has dated far better than the vast majority of its contemporaries. It will probably appeal to undemanding 80s nostalgics but it's far too insubstantial to be of much interest for anyone looking for gritty cop drama.

I love this classic 80s action comedy movie! It has a fantastic cast and lots of humour, and it's so fun. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

A brilliant classic with memorable soundtrack.

I never really liked this film. I always make a point to avoid films where Bronson Pinchot is playing gay as it?s just too cringe worthy to watch!

Jesus, looking back on this now its really old haha obviously. This is the original classic cop action flick that kick started them all. The Murphy humor is his best, the other cast members work so well together, the soundtrack is classic 80's, the action is spot on, although now ... read moreabit cheesey, and it looks good. It still holds firm today and beats most competition proving that big cgi means nothing. The final gun battle is brilliant....Taggart and Rosewood are sooo funny there.

Murphy exudes the kind of cheeky, cocky charm that has been missing from the screen since Cagney was a pup, snarling his way out of the ghetto. Full Review

    • Axel Foley: [mocking him] You're not gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this - 'Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!' See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long.
