A pampered Chihuahua accustomed to the living the good life in glamorous Beverly Hills must rein in her heiress instincts and rely on the kindness of strangers in order to find her way back home after... read more read more... becoming hopelessly lost in Mexico. Chloe (voice of Drew Barrymore) is a diamond-clad toy dog who favors traveling in her wealthy owner's purse over frolicking in an open park, and Papi (voice of George Lopez) is the kind of independent pup that she doesn't afford a second glance. When a vacation mishap leaves Chloe stranded in Mexico, the Chihuahua who doesn't speak a lick of Spanish must rely on street-smart German shepherd Delgado (voice of Andy Garcia) to guide her back home before she wanders any further south. Meanwhile, brave Papi races to the border intent on proving his love for Chloe by tracking her down and escorting her home in style. Along the way, Papi is joined by an enthusiastic pack of helpful pooches (voices of Luis Guzman, Plácido Domingo, and Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo) a pair of concerned humans (Piper Perabo and Manolo Cardona), an anxious iguana (voice of Paul Rodriguez), and a crafty rat (voice of Cheech Marin). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A thin plotline and tired jokes make Beverly Hills Chihuahua a forgettable family film despite a few cute moments.
  • December 22, 2010

Beverly Hills Chihuahua is definitely not a bad film, but it's premise is very overdone. We have seen this before but not with chihuahua's lurking about. It's dumb, but it is a delight for children!

This movie is filled with doggy-stereotypes. Like the German Shepherd being the smart police dog, the Doberman, "Diablo" being the bad "Devil" dog. Really? Come on.

I was forced to watch this movie with the children I babysit, and I admit it was a very cute movie, however the ... read morestereotypes and cheesy plot really annoyed me.

I understand the movie was trying to tell people to love their dogs forever, dogs are a lifetime commitment, etc. but I don't think they really did a very good job at portraying that on screen. The movie made it seem like all stray dogs have a good life, which of course is not true. Then while the family was looking for Chloe, they find homes for stray dogs along the way....what? When does that ever happen? It's really not that easy to find homes for dogs, especially stray ones. I know they had to make it so that the movie had a happy ending for the children watching the movie, but they could at least be realistic. I do like how they mentioned how Papi was a shelter dog, but I wish they could've emphasized on that a bit more. At the end, all it said was that dogs are a lifetime commitment and you should take care of them. It never says anything about adopting shelter dogs. But I guess that's okay, there's only about a million shelter dogs that are going to be gassed because people would rather pay $500 for a breeder's puppy, instead of $50 for a shelter puppy.

The stereotypes were also a problem. Dobermans are really sweet dogs, as well as Rottweilers, and German Shepherds. But naming the Doberman "Devil" and making him the nasty dog that attacks people??? What a great reputation they are making for that breed! Just because they look intimidating doesn't mean they are nasty monsters. Then the German Shepherd being the police dog? Really? How many times have we seen that in movies already? German Shepherds are smart and loyal, but seriously, there are other breeds used for police work, not JUST German Shepherds. Then it made Chihuahuas look so cute and sweet. Um, news flash, Chihuahuas really aren't sweet dogs. Little dogs tend to be a little nastier compared to the bigger breeds. My aunt had a nasty Chihuahua that almost bit my brother. They are not children's dogs. Just look on PetFinder and there will be many Chihuahuas listed that say "No Children". Why? Because they are nasty little boogers. So I would like to know why dogs that are generally not recommended for children are used in a children's movie. The movie makes them look cute, cuddly, and fun to dress up. Another ridiculous stereotype.

The movie was pretty hard to sit through. It's not original, and filled with obnoxious stereotypes that made me lose my mind.

Some parts were funny, and the movie itself was cute, but it's not really a movie worth seeing. The ending is just what you expect- the happy ever after.

The dogs are cute but not the film itself.

Walt Disney would shoot himself in the head if he saw it.

So bad, but so good. It actually kept my attention, but very minimal at best. Liked it, but wouldn't watch it again.

It's cute for a kid's film, but it is a kid's film, and as is typical for me, it did not hold my attention past the first half hour even though I like Drew Barrymore (who does the voice of Chloe the chihuahua in this), and I like cute dogs. There's nothing all that special or cl... read moreever happening here and half the time I just felt sorry for the dogs having to wear booties etc.

Typically a chick flick movie... Having dogs to wear a fashion is definitely just want to make this movie more fun, but luckily this movie hadn't have fun by itself too much so I can still enjoy this movie, even it's not too enjoyable to watch... The story just standard, but a li... read morettle unique because the main character is a tiny little dog called Chihuahua, which I never saw before in a movie (except for Paris Hilton)... The cast for this movie were pretty incredible too, Drew Barrymore, Andy Garcia, Jamie Lee Curtis, at least Disney are not trying to make a B-class movie... Overall, it's a fun and entertaining movie, but it's more entertaining again if the audiences for this movie was a woman...

Typical garbage from the Walt Disney juggernaut that's only going to encourage kids to get these rat-like dogs.
  • March 20, 2009
Child-oriented comedy about a pampered Chihuahua who gets lost in Mexico and must find her way back to her home in Beverly Hills. The various dogs' ability to act requires a lot of impressive training and decent CGI, but that's about all to recommend in this poorly written and a... read morected (by the humans) flick. Anyone over the age of 8 will be bored. If you must see a film about a talking animal, please rent Babe.
