Lau eventually tracks down the child's family in a remote country farm in Hong Kong's New Territories run by Cher (Cherie Cheung Cho-hung). Though initially the two loath each other, soon they start to warm to one another. Cher tells him that Ka-ka is the illegitimate child of crime boss Hung (Paul Chun Pui). When Lau confronts Hung, the cop promptly gets his clock cleaned and psychotic Vietnamese gangster Bullet (Roy Cheung Yiu-yueng) is sent out to whack him. Bullet's first attempt goes poorly, resulting in a trashed bar and a wounded hit man. Bullet vows bloody revenge. Meanwhile, Cher's thuggish husband Leong returns from mainland China about the same time that Bullet is about to stage a second attack. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

Ringo Lam is often compared to John Woo because both of them features Chow Yun Fat in so many films, but their interests are, I think, different - While Woo is more interested in direction of gunfight and aesthetic of a man, Ringo Lam originally is more into showing human drama. ... read moreYun Fat can play so many kind of role, and it is his ability as an actor, but he is also blessed with so many talented directors who can get so many faces out of him. Although I said Yun Fat can play so many types of characters, he is Chow Yun Fat before he is the character in a movie, and that's why he is such a big star and loved by so much people. In this film, he shows great performance not only as the usual role of a hard-boiled cop but also a man who overcomes loss of his wife and daughter by meeting a woman who is the sister of a killed-suspect. Cherie Chung plays the heroin nicely, and the chemistry between Yun Fat and Cherie Chung is exquisite. Indeed, they two plays hero and heroin in so many movies. The rhythm os storytelling is good, too. A very fine Hong Kong film.
