When Sever learns that Gant and his team are in possession of a remarkable new weapon -- a microscopic device injected into the victim's bloodstream which is benign until triggered, then kills immediately without leaving a trace -- she is determined to get her hands on it, whatever the cost. However, Gant has turned rogue, and FBI agent Julio Martin (Miguel Sandoval) has been ordered to find him and recover his new weapon. Martin needs the best man he can find for the job, and calls upon Jeremiah Ecks (Antonio Banderas), a former FBI tracker, to do the job. Ecks quit the Bureau when his wife was killed, but Martin informs Ecks that his spouse is actually alive and in hiding, and if he can bring in Gant, she will be returned to him. But Ecks has to face the most formidable adversary of his life in Sever, a master of mayhem bent on revenge. Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever was the first English-language feature from Thai filmmaker Wych Kaosayananda (aka Kaos), whose first feature Fah was a box-office blockbuster in his homeland. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

one of the worst movies of all time. wow... garbage.

    A great Action Flick.

Ballistic-Ecks vs. Sever is so incredibly bad on a mammoth scale that I feel like I should give every movie I've reviewed up to this point an extra star just for not being this one. I could talk about the director's name being Kaos, a scene where a cop holds a gun on a dead body,... read more the irrepressibly bad acting, the piss poor soundtrack, monstrous absences in logic, painful dialogue or the incoherent war crime story but I won't. There is no mistaking that Ballistic-Ecks vs. Sever is complete and total dogshit but in a really fucked up way it kind of works. Granted, it works in the same way that mustard gas or a backed up toilet works, but if you love wasting your time on almost-total shit you should have a great time. I knew this movie was going to be bad, the only question was how bad. And the answer? Pretty fucking bad. The more I think about this movie the more I want those 91 minutes of my life back...

Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu chase each other through a hail of bullets, broken glass and pointless explosions in this borderline nonsensical action flick. I literally cannot even attempt a synopsis of the plot because it makes so little sense! The characters are all cardboard c... read moreut-outs spouting action cliches and Ray Park is quite possibly the least charismatic villain I have ever seen. The fight choreography is clumsy and the constant stream of irrelevant stunts start to look plain silly after a while because there's so little plot to hang them on. If it weren't for the star names attached to it, this soulless and mechanical firework display would have struggled to make a straight to DVD release and is little better or intelligent than your average Van Damme debacle. If watching cars fly through the air and spontaneously explode for no reason to bad techno music is enough for you, then it may be worth 90 minutes of your time. If you need a coherent plot or remotely interesting characters, forget it.

    Review
Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever doesn't deserve to be called an action movie. As a matter of fact, its not a movie, its a jumbled mess with no plot, wooden acting and just plain atrocious. One of the worst movies I've ever seen and I want one and a half hour of my life back. There is absolutely no redeeming value in this piece of garbage, it headlines Banderas and Liu in their worst roles ever, one can only wonder why the two of them agreed to do this garbage. The dialogue is monosyllabic and the plot, if there ever was one, is distasteful. Also, the excessive and unnecessary use of explosives reached to an annoying and "make-me-want-to-kill-the-director" level, I just wanted it to be over with this device of mental torture. I strongly urge you not to watch this piece of junk, steer clear from it at all costs and erase it from your memory forever.

Despite all the negativity that surrounds this movie, it isn't all that bad. Especially if you like explosions and guns.

The story is nothing spectacular by any means. It is really simple and avoids going deep into backgrounds and character development. This film starts out

... read morewith a bang and continues in this fashion for the first half before the the story shifts gears. This is where most people will become disappointed with this film. There is still action-a-plenty, but as far as the story is concerned it is probably not what people want to see.

The acting turns out to be quite good. Both Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas perform their roles nicely. It was also nice to see Gregg Henry as a villain once again. Although he does do a good job with the character he was given, I just think they could have utilized him more.

The action comes in bunches. As mentioned earlier, if you like action this film is for you. What makes it even better is that Lucy Liu is dishing out most of the pain. She empties gun after gun and performs some nice hand to hand combat throughout the film. I was also happy to see Antonio Banderas sporting one of my favorite weapons. The shotgun. One of the real disappointments in this film was that Ray Park was not used in the right way. He has a ton of airtime, but is involved in ALMOST no action. We're talking about the greatest man to ever wield a light saber here. This film is loaded with action and they should have used him in it.

This isn't an award winning film, but if you like action, or Lucy Liu for that matter, then I recommend this film to you. Just don't expect a good story.

I didn't quite understand the plot, the action, or the title of this dull action flick, which seemed to have a derivative style.
  • March 1, 2007
Quite not a bad action of two government spooks, Ecks and Sever who are sworn enemies turned to join forces against a common threat.
  • November 24, 2006
I have no logical rationale for liking this movie, but I do. I think I might have a thing for Lucy Liu.

Quite not a bad action of two government spooks, Ecks and Sever who are sworn enemies turned to join forces against a common threat. Lucy Lui is awesome in a quiet role. Some good cinematography but a really weak story.

Between explosions there is enough room left for only minimal character development.

Director Wych Kaosayananda -- or Kaos, to you -- is stupendously inept, unable even to properly light a combat sequence. Full Review
