Pretty ordinary. I really didn't like Richard Gere's character in this at all, and when the inevitable happened at the end, I really didn't feel too sad about it either. Winona is okay, but overall it failed to move me.

This movie sucked but I got to look at Winona Ryder for a couple hours. So I don't care.

Autumn in New York is a rather maudlin romance that tells an interesting story, but it focuses a little too much on symbolism and aesthetics. Richard Gere plays a New York playboy who gets more than he bargains for when he pursues a much younger woman who turns out to have a uni... read more

Tottaly unforgettable movie. The premise for the story just literally rips your heart out. The whole sense of impending tragedy that blankets the film from beginning 'till the teear-jecking end just keeps you utterly enthralled as you watch.
Critic Reviews
A workmanlike product that offers occasional, small moments of satisfaction, but, as a whole, is apt to leave audiences wondering why they should care. Full Review
A diaphanous daydream of clichés, predictable developments, strained romance, and frequently embarrassing dialogue.
[Chen] has a lovely sense of film rhythm and a sophisticated eye for luxe effects, but she fell into this vat of goo and there's no climbing out of it. Full Review
The movie's biggest fatality is the lack of chemistry between the two stars. Even in their most amorous moments, they seem like a randy uncle and his sad-eyed niece. Full Review
If [Chen] is able to take such predictable storylines and breathe life into them, chances are good she'll have a long and successful career in Hollywood.
A perfectly respectable weeper.
Sappy and melodramatic.
The picture is a veritable bouquet of ardent cliches and witless sentiments. Full Review
Though individually attractive, together Gere and Ryder are as unappetizing a combo as pimento and peach.
