what the hell was this? the editing/cinematography/direction was awful. plus, why did those assault rifles sound like exaggerated nail guns? i really did want to like this movie. cool premise that calls for a fun action or even a great thriller, but it failed in every way possible.

Unite and fight.
Saw it again! Remake.Good action movie that's all it is. The plot is simple and easy to follow. Good cast to follow a decent god movie.
The film begins with Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke), with his head shaved and body covered in tattoos, talking with a drug dealer... read more -

This has a higher budget, slicker look, and less plot holes than the original, but it doesn't have the same charm or sense of paranoia and claustrophobia that made the original such a classic.

thanks Ja Rule you did a nice job acting in this one. i especially like how your characters name is Smiley when he so ovbiously is never smiling. was that an inside joke? get it, theyre all in prison. "inside" well thats enough. this is cliche' and Ethan Hawke is awesome.

A great remake that didn't try and overtake its original. It took the same basic concept and style and took on its own story. The characters really worked in their own way. Ethan Hawke was great as usual and you had some good performances from John Leguizamo and Maria Bello. The ... read more

January 29, 2009fb619846742An enjoyable ride. Fishburne is an awesome selection for the part of a dirty cop-killer who must team up with Hawke in order to survive the night. While there are definitely some plot holes and weird turns by the characters, it doesn't hurt the movie. The ending is a slam-bang, c... read more

It's good for a silly laugh, this stuff. And maybe this movie will draw renewed attention to Carpenter's eminently better movie. Full Review
This meat-and-potatoes dish of moviemaking is sufficiently tasty to satisfy auds hungry for old-fashioned rock-the-house action. Full Review
A great deal of thought may have gone into the making of Assault on Precinct 13, but its tone and its rhythms are consistently out of whack. Full Review
An assault to your intelligence, and an assault on your ears and eyes. Full Review
It's a good old-fashioned shoot-'em-up with a few nice twists and some very good acting. Full Review
My preference for the remake over the original has more to do with its harsh representation of contemporary state corruption and its unsentimental ethical distinctions than with its success as a thril... Full Review
Restores thirteen to its place as the unluckiest number.
The film has an appropriately dark and gritty look, but it suffers from some glaring problems. Full Review
Don't avoid the new Assault on Precinct 13 because it's a remake. There are plenty of other reasons. Full Review
