Strong acting and terrific story, based on the real-life experiences of former U.S. navy man Antwone Fisher. Before I saw this, I had no idea that Denzel Washington had done some work behind camera. What I can say now though, is that he ought to do it more often. For his directin... read more

This movie was good, just too episodic to be great. Was Antwone's story so great that they had to make a movie about it?

really like the story, but I don't have any particular strong feelings about the movie. that this is based on a real man's life, and that man labouriously wrote the screenplay to his own life story and got it made into a Hollywood movie is intriguing enough by itself. Washingt... read more

This movie is Great! It touched my heart. I couldn't relate about the racial discrimination that Antwone has experienced because I'm living in my own country. I guess it is really hard to be discriminated.

At first it seemed like a very plain movie, but by the end I was surprisingly & profoundly touched. Ok I'm gay now.

Washington never fails to deliver but Luke was hot and cold. The story just seemed very typical. Final scene was good though.
Critic Reviews
A riveting story well told.
Denzel Washington gives a sensitive yet powerful performance as a Navy psychiatrist, and newcomer Derek Luke is a pleasant surprise as the title character.
For sure, Antwone Fisher is corny. But it's corny in a way that a Hollywood movie about a boy who just wants to go home ought to be corny. Full Review
The level of acting elevates the material above pat inspirational status and gives it a sturdiness and solidity that we've long associated with Washington the actor. Full Review
Watchful, flinty, unexpectedly vulnerable -- and so cathartic it could wring tears from a stone.
A film as modestly underplayed and as unassumingly classy as the star who also directed it.
Marks a strong directorial performance by Washington, who foregoes tricky maneuvers and allows the emotions and details of his story to carry the day.
In his debut as a director, Washington has a sure hand. His work with actors is particularly impressive. Full Review
Luke is one actor who is sure to be with us in a big way for years to come.
