This movie was really cool, it's sort of like a sexier more modern version of Taming of the Shrew.

Ok flick, pretty racy, especially for its time. Brigitte Bardot is gorgeous as the free-spirited woman that all the men lust for, One thing particularly stuck with me though, that takes away from my rating. One man just aches to get it one with Brigitte. She gives in to him becau... read morese she's in love with him. They have their good time, then he immediately starts barking at her about what a digusting tramp she is and how no decent man will ever have her. This has bugged me ever since I first saw the film. Is this what men thought of sexually-free women in the 50s? If she is such trash, what does it say about him that he slept with her?

As I can recall, looking at Bardot was the only reason to see it.
  • July 9, 2008
Bardot is something, and the final sequence was interesting, but this movie doesn't really say much for women.

Not a bad movie. The plot is good, though somewhat drawn out more than necessary. Brigitte Bardot plays a great femme fatale and, the thing I love about her the most - her love for animals - stands out here as well. Two of the worst fight scenes I've ever witnessed definitely ... read moredetract from the drama. The ending was abrupt and completely unsatisfactory, especially since the lead-up to it had promise.

Ooh, titillating- in 1957, to those who hadn't been laid very often. Removed from its conservative era-of-origin- when there were really more successful transgressive films than there are today, and foreign ones at that- this is just a well-shot USA Up-All-Night movie without any... read more breasts to blur. There isn't much to say for Bardot's star power, which was really just a function of how much skin she would show at any given time. She is, however, a much better actress than her reputation would suggest; she makes her character's implausible coquettishness seem spontaneous and human. This is also the film that announced to the world the presence of Roger Vadim, the smut wizard of the Old World, who would, a decade later, grant unto the world Barbarella.

I'm amazed this movie gets so much discussion. It's mediocre. Bardot is lovely, sure, but the movie is barely adequate.
  • May 24, 2007
At the time was taboo and risque, but today is just a run-of-the mill sex romp.Bardot is an iconic beauty.
  • July 13, 2006
For 1957 foreign movie, I'd rate it bit better, as in accordance with the technology available at that time. A movie with FOV's in depth. As I have not seen other Roger Vadim movies, so cannot compare with his own work, but it is definitely worth a watch. And probably the bigg... read moreest hit from Vadim.

Of course Brigitte Bardot has a stunning appearance in this flick.

We can't recommend this little item as a sample of the best in Gallic films. It is clumsily put together and rather bizarrely played. Full Review

By today's standards the film is tame, but back in 1956, Vadim's feature debut was sensational and scandalous, catapulting Brigitte Bardot (who was married to Vadim) to the status of international sex... Full Review

A fragilidade do roteiro e o tom de melodrama poderiam transformar este filme em uma experiência nada memorável - mas é aí que a presença incrivelmente sensual e luminosa de Bardot faz a diferença, sa...

The story line is so slight it is forever in danger of wafting away on the Mediterranean breeze. Plainly, it was Ms. Bardot's presence alone that made the film a hit.
