The romantic comedy Try Seventeen is a coming-of-age tale directed by Jeffrey Porter. Jones Dillon (Elijah Wood) is a young writer who is living on his own for the first time. Jones continually writes... read more read more... letters to the father he has never met, while his mother Blanche (Elizabeth Perkins) resides in Texas. Enrolled in college, he quickly abandons the stifling dormitory setting and eventually his classes as well. He finds an apartment in an old building in the city and befriends his neighbors. The place is filled with colorful artists and other nonconformist types. Jones gets romantically involved with struggling actress Lisa (Mandy Moore) and photographer Jane (Franka Potente). He buys furniture from Ma Mabley (Debbie Harry) and proceeds to try and lose his virginity while searching for his absent father. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

Elijah Wood, Franka Potente, Mandy Moore, Elizabeth Perkins, Deborah Harry, Aaron Pearl, Chris William Martin

    DIRECTED BY: Jeffrey Porter

A 17-year-old college dropout who moves into a funky old apartment building and becomes intrigued by his wacky neighbors. A self-absorbe... read mored actress and a cranky photographer who live just across the hall, and downstairs a very butch gay man. It is just one of those films you want to shut off cause it's so ridiculous but yet you for some reason want to finish it. Probably one of the silliest films I have seen in a while. Had a couple laughable moments, but in all just a film that will have you wondering "why did I rent this". Just a silly movie that some might like.

Not bad flick about a boy growing up and falling in love. Worth checking out if you like anyone in the cast. Not great at all, but not bad, either.

Mandy Moore almost gets naked, which is worth at least one star. Overall pretty good and interesting.

This is so stupid that I can't stop watching it. I picked some really good movies at the library this week.

Taken individually, each scene has interesting qualities. However, as a whole, director Jeffrey Porter fails to bring it all together. Full Review
