A young girl visits a wonderful land of white rabbits, mad hatters and skull-faced animals with razor sharp teeth in this dark and surreal stop-motion animation adaptation of ALICE IN WONDERLAND. The whimsical flavor of Lewis Carroll blends astoundingly well with Jan Svankmajer'... read more

Essentially an art house interpretation of Alice In Wonderland. It's extremely bizarre and dark compared to most adaptions. The stop motion animation fits really well with the style of the film. It's very much an unknown treasure and i'd recommend it to anyone who loves the story... read more

I have to admit that I tried to watch it more than three times without sucess - due to the stop motion animation, it can be a bit tedious and tiredness. After maybe the third try, I watched it entirely and it ws a pleasant surrealist experience. Pretty interesting.

It's always fun to watch Svankmajer's creativity and the film's dark edge is interesting but Alice gets a bit monotonous & unengaging at times and speaking of being unengaging I watched the dubbed version so...

This movie was as awesome in parts as it was tedious. But it was an experience as necessary as Death bed. The props and sets were really cool, and I only wish there were a bigger budget to supplement the director's uncanny creativity. The pacing, dubbing, and sound effects wore m... read more

Not really a review but just a feedback:
Well, this one is definitely an old, bizzare, dark film version of Alice in wonderland, but I feel like the stop motion animation, acting and the filming techniques used in this movie was just too old even for my generation to watch... read more -

Certainly some neat old skool stop and go animation. The movie would have gotten a solid 4 stars had they not ruined the movie with their "artsy" style of ALWAYS putting a shot of Alice's mouth saying something like "said the white rabbit" after EVERY SINGLE line of dialog throu... read more

An interesting (and at times visually disturbing) ADULT version of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice In Wonderland'. And by "ADULT", I mean it will probably be too freaky (and possibly nightmare inducing) for the average child.
It succeeds (for the most part) in "out surrealing' the org... read more

It takes us back to a time in the history of movies when audiences responded to the images on screen with a combination of awe and fear, when in submitting to them, we felt as if we were submitting to... Full Review
Not necessarily for young kids, this is a surrealist version with a great deal of attention accorded to objects. Full Review
a triumph of the creative imagination, reordering both Lewis Carroll's original text and the drabness of the material world into a disturbing wonderland of textures and tactility Full Review
Alice is macabre, haunting, and very true to the spirit of Carroll's book, exploring the marvels and fears of a child's imagination. Full Review
Svankmajer's surrealist adaptation is a welcome antidote to the cute and cuddly Disneyfication of Carroll's iconic tale. Full Review
For adults trying to remember that first acid trip, it's a winner. Full Review
A masterpiece of surrealism that's more Tim Burton than Walt Disney. Full Review
As disturbing as this is, it's also a fascinating spin on a well-worn tale. Full Review
At once far more faithful to its source material than the popular Disney version, and farther from it in tone than one might ever imagine. Full Review
