Mweh.. this is typically a movie written and directed by a man (don't worry, I'm not a raging feminist), so annoying. It totally missed it's goal. It's about the woman, taking control of her sexuality, or that's the intention I think, but how she's coaxed into doing this is utter... read morely ridiculous.
That really is all I have to say about this movie.

Shot through a tinted lens, this is a beautiful film visually but unfortunately its let down by a fairly creepy and non-sexy story line. Style over content but still worth watching, it just could have been a lot better considering Tsukamoto is one of the most exciting directors a... read moreround!

Another creepy and unsettling Japanese drama from director Tsukamoto (Jijii from Ichi The Killer) who's brought such wonderful family classics such as Tetsuo: The Iron Man. Shot in black and white then washed in blue, the film is absolutely soaked in water--constant rain, sinks... read more and showers, all running down into various drains. This is a wet, wet film; well, June is the rainy season in Japan, apparently. An extremely art-house film, with experimental-type camerawork and editing that makes it hard to follow at times...hell...most of the time.

Still, the visual style sets the tone for a story that centers around various taboos in Japan. The tone of the film, a mixed bag of pink films and film noir, suggests that the whole thing is headed for a bitterly tragic doom.

I'm guessing if you sent David Lynch to Japan to remake Saw this is what you'd get. Stylish, puzzling and pretty fucked up. I hated the better part of the first hour and nearly cursed this movie's existence. That metal dick thing was... I'm sure explainable only in Japanese. The ... read moremore I think about it the more I like it. A Snake of June is very erotic and reasonably sexy (the Japanese she-mullet thing was a little rough.) Not amazing but definitely worth checking out.

Unique and captivatingly photographed, but turns out to be a complete waste of time, even at only 77 minutes.

There are some great moments, and the first half hour isn't too objectionable. It even has some really good performances to its credit. Unfortunately, Shinya Tsukamoto s... read morepirals into some bizarre fantasy porn land and the movie becomes little more than caricature after the half-hour mark. Sorry, not worth it.

A weird movie with some interesting visual concepts. Some Terry Gilliam there, some french avant-garde cinema there, yet the mvoie itself feels like a lengthened shortmovie. A novel idea stretched to an unnescessary length. It may interest you if you are into sadism and/or sexual... read more roleplaying. Otherwise, you shoud stay away from this.

It's great to see Tsukamoto mature as a filmmaker without ever becoming mainstream (what most critic's think as "maturing"). Bizarre, erotic and stylish with great performances from every cast member.

Shot in "metallic" shade of B&W, this is certainly a very stylish movie. The director uses bizarre and sometimes hallucinatory visuals to create intensity and it works quite well. Unfortunately a rather mundane story doesn't justify the way it was conveyed, so in the end it felt ... read moreas if the movie was incomplete.

Tsukamoto tries his hand at noir in this disturbing yet beautiful film of a repressed woman having her darkest desires tapped by an admiring stalker.
