A group of ten year old school children try to make sense of their first crushes and their curiosity about how others feel about them; some have learned a fool-proof way of discovering if someone loves you (it involves writing on a leaf), one boy is embarrassed when his love note ends up in the hands of his teacher, a girl who is leaving her third-grade boyfriend imagines them flying away to the moon, and a boy is uncertain about his feelings when he finds the girl he likes is the daughter of a notorious street beggar.
