As incredible as it seems, CBS head man James Aubrey originally vetoed his network's presentation of the animated A Charlie Brown Christmas on the grounds that Charles M. Schultz's round-headed protag... read more read more...onist was a "loser" who wouldn't attract an audience! The story proposes that Charlie Brown is convinced that the true meaning of Christmas has been forgotten by his Peanuts friends, not to mention the rest of the world. "Psychiatrist" Lucy advises Charlie Brown to get into the holiday spirit by directing the kids' upcoming Christmas play. Despite his utter lack of control over his cast, Charlie Brown takes his job seriously, even setting out to find a genuine Christmas tree to decorate the set instead of the usual aluminum job. But Charlie Brown's tree is a scrawny, pathetic thing, and all seems lost. That is, until the rest of the Peanuts gang decide to pitch in and decorate the woebegone tree. An instant hit when first telecast December 9, 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas has been rebroadcast virtually every year since. It was produced by Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez, the latter providing the squeals and growls of Charlie Brown's hyper-intelligent dog, Snoopy. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I've seen this many times since 1965. It is to the point where I know exactly what is coming in the next scene, but I don't mind watching it each year. It still rings true every Christmas.

Very few Christmas films are essential viewing but for me, it just isn't Christmas until I've watched A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's usually on at stupid O'clock in the morning on kids TV so I've gone as far as buying the DVD, Money well spent, in fact, I could probably quite ha... read moreppily watch it in the middle of the summer too! Merry Christmas Charlie Brown!

Not a movie, but a classic

this movie is so simple but it conveys so much in terms of a christmas movie and now its one of the most praised christmas specials of all time and i think its well worth that domain

A holiday classic. You may be surprised to find that this short cartoon is one of the most mature and accurate depictions of Christmas. The humor is also well advanced of its presentation. Charlie Brown does some soul searching to discover why he isn't excited by Christmas. Is it... read more the commercialism of it all. For something that is 45 years old, this still has messages relevant today. It's ahead of its time and will certainly appeal to all ages.

Not my favourite Christmas movie, but I'd watch it if it was on TV. It's pretty funny for the most part, but the story isn't great. Overall pretty good, though.

Seeing as how this is one of my absolute favorite Christmas films of all time, I could easily ramble on about it for hours, but just for the sake of time, let me say that THIS is how a Christmas special is done.

It's fun for kids, and has a great message, but it's smart and th... read moreought provoking for adults as well. I'm glad that there's an overtly religious message in the movie. It took balls for them to keep it in, and you'd never see that kind of thing happen today in a modern animated special.

That's what made Peanuts and Charles Schultz himself so brilliant. The kids are basically adults trapped in kid's bodies, but they still also act and talk like kids sometimes. This type of stuff treats kids with respect, and doesn't dumb things down for them. It's smart, mature, very clever, and vastly entertaining.

One last thing to conluce the review on- the music: absolutely genius.

It's truly wonderful; even followers of Zoroaster can dig it. The choreography is particularly spiffy.
