Finally watched this at long last hearing it was a good film for a while now. It's very unique and very stylish. It starts off similar to The silence of the lambs, with a serial killer on the loose who is getting bolder which each new victim. They track him down but he has a seizure and with the latest victim still missing they need to find her quick! Using a sort of virtual reality programme J.Lo must enter his mind to find the answers. |

Funny Games 2007, R)
A strange film with not very much plot or explanation as to what is going on, although some might like this more because of that. It's a very gritty, raw, rather bleak film as a couple of psycho's decide to play games with a family in the holiday home. Just need to watch a comedy after to lift your mood! |

Donnie Darko 2001, R)
Finally got round to seeing this at last after hearing about it for ages. A very good film which isn't quite as weird and hard to follow as I thought it would be after hearing all the reviews of it. Hard to describe though, a film about choices and making changes and what happens as a result. Deals with complex ideas but the end does help clear things up. Considering the year it was made a very well assembled cast. |

Solaris 2002, PG-13)
A slightly strange film, something like a sci-fi, thriller but with a romantic feel to it? It's well shot, the cinematography is good and the cast is quite strong. The films raises a lot of questions without providing many answers. Some will like it for this others won't. One for sci-fi fans, or those open to debate about life, time, religion etc. I'm sure the girls will like it for George Clooney's scenes as well! |

Long Weekend (Nature's Grave) 2008, R)
30 years on and we have a remake of the little known, but very weird film Long Weekend (1978). I saw the original when I was very young and at the end you just think WTF?! This is almost by the numbers remake, so I knew what was gong to happen, which effected my overall opinion. I remember the first being a lot more tense, scary and jumpy. This just didn't have the same impact. Check out the 78 version of you want some real creepy thrills! |

Dark City 1998, R)A strange, weird Sci-Fi/horror. Not helped by a confusing plot that takes a while to unravel. Featuring a well known cast including the brilliant Ian Richardson who should be in more films and an early small role for Melissa George. It's ambitious and with the right budget could have been amazing. I kinda felt it was trying too hard to be a film ahead of its time. It's not until about half way through things start to make sense, until then the highlight was Melissa George stripping off. Could have been a classic but falls a bit short for me. |

The Box 2009, PG-13)
A good thriller, not quite what I was expecting. It's a strange film in many ways that leaves you wondering at times, even towards the end what is going on and why. Thankfully most of it is explained but there was just a bit of doubt in my mind about what was really happening. Still a good film that will keep you guessing along the way. |

Black Swan 2010, R)
From all the hype and bits I heard about the film I wasn't sure it would be one I would like that much. Finally gave it ago and I did really enjoy it. Nothing like what I expected really. Although about a ballerina in Swan Lake there are many deep layers to the meaning of the film. Quite dark, disturbing at times and raunchy as well, many will be surprised at what they see. A great performance from Natalie Portman as the perfection driven dancer who has problems coping with what is expected of her. A great psychological thriller with some surreal scenes. If you thought you'd skip it, think again! |

Attack the Block 2011, R)
A great little low budget, English comedy horror! This has a good B movie feel to it, featuring a young, largely unknown cast it has a good balance of laughs at the sillyness of it all, followed by moments of danger. I also like these type of films when they are grounded in a real setting, this being an every day council estate in South London. Also unexpected for this type of film is how well shot it is, good use of light and cinematography is plain to see in most scenes. The creature design while simple is pretty good. The only downer for me was some of the over use, of so much slang, but again there are teenagers who do talk like that! An enjoyable small budget film that will put a big smile on your face! |

Dogtooth (Kynodontas) 2009, R)
Hmmm really didn't get the hype about this film. It's just plain odd and weird without being that entertaining. A very over protective father keeps his 3 teenage children within the compound of the family home, knowing nothing of the outside world. They have become brainwashed by their parents into an odd existence. A few odd scenes and taboo sex scenes as well make it strange viewing at times. It gets a bit interesting towards the end, but it's a long slow watch to get there. |

I Come With The Rain 2009, Unrated)
A truly odd, weird film. I was hoping for a decent thriller, maybe a bit of action. Instead it's a low budget indie film that has many layers but none of them that interesting... I'm sure there is supposed to be some "message" as such in the film, but the poor story, editing and strangeness of it all will have you wishing the credits come sooner rather than later. |

Heavenly Creatures 1994, R)
Hmmm well it seems I'm in the minority but to call this a masterpiece is way of the mark for me. I'm not a fan of most drama's. When they are good they can be brilliant and among my favourite films. This was just a bit too surreal and odd. Based on a true crime in New Zealand in the 50's. It gets very strange later on as the relationship and madness intensifies! If you like wacky films or odd dramas you might love it, but it's not for me. |
