Marvel's The Avengers
One of the rare films that fills you with unrestrained joy. A truly great cinematic experience that combines humor, action, and even some pathos successfully. It harkens back to classic adventure movies. While it is nowhere near as stylized and gritty as the recent Batman films, this is actually a refreshing change of pace, IMO. Not all superhero films need to be boxed into the same style to be successful and critically acclaimed. In summary, Joss is Boss. WATCH THIS FILM.

The Cabin in the Woods 2012,  R)
The Cabin in the Woods
Astoundingly clever and genre savvy, Cabin in the Woods is an intelligent, witty deconstruction and homage to the horror genre. If you are a fan of Joss Whedon's other work, a fan of intelligent horror, or just possess generally good taste in film, SEE THIS NOW. If you're concerned that the film is too scary, I would say that you're probably safe with this one. There are certainly a few great jump-scares, but nothing too intense, in my opinion. The people who hate on this film generally missed the point and didn't really understand metaphors. Seriously, it's a work of brilliance.

American Psycho
Well shot and very well-acted, it's unfortunately lacking in plot or any type of logical sense. One could argue that that's the point, but it's not very enjoyable to sit through nearly two hours of a film to find zero resolution. The ending is open to interpretation, but it's left too wide-open. The audience isn't given enough to go on and is left feeling confused and unsatisfied. Watch it if you have a lot of free time, are obsessed with Christian Bale, or just want to lay eyes on some disturbing stuff. Otherwise, not worth it.

Prometheus
It's gorgeously shot, atmospheric and frightening but it lacks logic and fails to resolve the many plot lines it starts and the questions it raises.
