The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
An amazing movie, although not perfect. Lots of things were awesome in this movie, like the plot, the acting, and the action. But there are some glaring flaws, like Batmans new "Voice", which, although is a nice idea, him disguising his voice, it's annoying. Another flaw is that any scene not involving either the Batman, the Joker, or any action, is boring and should've had more entertaining qualities. There is only one thing that I find perfect about this movie, and that is the Joker. He was entertaining, fun, scary, and had a good actor (R.I.P Heath Ledger. You will be missed). Everything else in this movie was great, but not perfect, but since there is nothing really bad or average about the movie, and that all the flaws are minor, I can't help but give this 5 stars.

American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
I rarely heard anything bad about this movie so I'm guessing it's cinematic excellence.
My 79th Most Anticipated Movie.

The Social Network 2010,  PG-13)
The Social Network
I have to admit, I like Facebook a lot, but I didn't know if this movie would work. But, after seeing all the great reviews for it, I decided to check it out, and I like it, but there are some flaws. The first is obvious, the character you're supposed to be rooting for, hacked into other schools websites and put people he didn't know on to a degrading website without their permission. Now, I know that was what Mark Zuckerberg did in real life, but he at least had some positive things about him, unlike the one in the movie. The second is that there is nothing to make it a stand out movie. It doesn't have any special scenes or moments, the ending is satisfying but not extraordinary or a good wrap up to the story, and it can be depressing at times. Even with all of those problems, the acting was great, the plot is great, and the atmosphere is awesome. A great movie, but nothing amazing.

Million Dollar Baby 2004,  PG-13)
Million Dollar Baby
Said to be Clint Eastwood's best film that's not a western.
My 84th Most Anticipated Movie.
5
The Shawshank Redemption 1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
This movie was amazing, plain and simple. The acting was spectacular, and Freeman was perfect for the role of red. The story was great with very little flaws. Finally, I loved how every little thing that happened was important to the story. Sure, there were flaws, like it was confusing at times, and inmates were aloud keeping posters in their rooms, but that still doesn't keep it from not passing "Supervolcano" as being my favorite movie of all time.
6
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
I SHALL FINISH THIS MOVIE EVENTUALLY!

12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men) 1957,  Unrated)
12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men)
This movie takes place in one room, with 12 people, and they are all talking about one thing. When you think of a jury room, you think it could be the most boring thing ever, and yet this film, with all the limitations listed above, can make it seem like the most interesting thing you've ever seen. It's just acting and a plot, and both are pulled off perfectly. I think the acting is the most important thing in a movie, and this movie has the best cast since The Shawshank Redemption and Dr Strangelove. This movie makes you pick a side, do you think the man is guilty or not, and it was fun to listen to everyones argument and as it goes on, you learn more and more about the young man, and the jury. If you are over the age of 12, this could be one of your favorite movies. I would recommend it.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The 70's are, in my opinion, the best movie decade yet, and this is known as one of the best of the decade.
9
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
This movie is the definition of beauty. The writing, the acting, the story, the plot, it's all beautiful. Drama, comedy, romance, epic, everything is in this movie. This is literally the first film I would ever give 100/100, with Star Wars and the first Lord of the Rings only receiving 99. Every scene has so much care put toward it, you get reminded again and again that this movie is amazing. Every character, even the villains, the few there are, are amazing. The only complaint I see for this movie, besides it being to long, is that there are plot holes. Well, Benjamin was born and died a small baby. It would be stupid if he was born the size of an old man or since he was born an old man, he had to die a small baby. Confusing, yes, but still awesome. Brad Pitt does excellent as Benjamin Button, and Cate Blanchett does tremendous as Daisy. The ending is brilliant. *Spoiler!* Daisy dies just before Hurricane Katrina takes effect (Which was a subtle sub-plot) and in a flooding building, the reversing clock that resembles Benjamin still ticks. *End of Spoiler!* Lot's of people say it resembles Forrest Gump, and I agree, but it actually does BETTER than Forrest Gump! It's actually better than the movie it's kind of based off of, that's just great. Overall; It's visual poetry. Almost nothing is done wrong, and if there is something wrong, I don't know about it. Since this was released on Christmas, I would be the happiest person ever if on the night of Christmas, I went to the theater and watched this masterpiece of cinema. 5/5, 10/10, 100/100.

The Godfather, Part II 1974,  R)
The Godfather, Part II
If I'm going to see the first movie, I want to see this one.
11
Inception 2010,  PG-13)
Inception
This is the most mind blowing movie you can ever see. Remember when I called Toy Story 3 the best movie of the year? Well, Inception took that role in the first hour. The special effects are breathtaking, the acting is great, and best of all, this movie is extremely memorable. Dicaprio fits this role perfectly and Ellen Page makes acting look easy. But there is one thing I don't get. Early in the movie, if you die, you wake up. But later, if you die, you go to limbo? This movie is confusing and has some flaws, but if you look over them, you're going to love this movie.
12
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Epic. That's the first word that comes to mind when I hear of this movie, and for good reason, it's brilliant! Now, from my past experience from Peter Jackson, I wasn't sure if this would be good or not. King Kong (The Remake) was O.K, but had plenty of flaws, and District 9 was good, but also had to many flaws to be a excellent film, so I thought this was gonna be a little underwhelming. Boy, was I wrong. It's a very enjoyable and adventurous film that has little to no flaws. As a matter of fact, I found 3 critics who gave this movie bad reviews, and I'm going to explain how this movie is good to them. Yes, I will deny critics, that's how much I love this movie (You know, I should have done this with Star Wars. Oh, well.). First, Richard Roeper, the only one I know of the 3 critics, and is pretty good at reviewing movies, said "It goes on forever". Well, if you hate movies that go on forever, you probably hate Titanic, or The Godfather, or even Lawrence of Arabia! Fact is, run time makes movies better, unless the movie is boring, but this movie has excellent dilemmas that keep MOST PEOPLE interested the whole way through. Next, Peter Rainer say's this this movie is "Overkill". Well, it's definitely over dramatic at times, but those scenes last less than a minute, and they don't affect the movie to much. Finally, Jonathan Rosenbaum didn't like the narrative or the action scenes. Well, the narrative was short and sweet, with no confusing points. I don't think that annoyed anyone else besides you. Also, the action scenes are short, realistic, and entertaining, I don't see how you could have been bored by them. There, I love this movie so much, I denied critics opinions. How many movies can make you do that? Almost none, and that's why this movie rocks. Well, I should talk about the individual stuff now, considering I do it in almost every review and, hey, why not change tradition right? The acting was excellent, the story was superb, the cinematography is in a league of it's own, and the special effects are tremendous. I can't even bring myself to compare this movie to anything, it's entirely unique. Probably one of the best films of the century.

GoodFellas 1990,  R)
GoodFellas
This movie is tremendous. The story is amazing, the acting is great, and the cinematography is unique, with great lighting and it has two or three narrators. Another thing that makes this movie amazing is the dialogue. It keeps the story interesting and it's executed well. Although this movie has plenty of upsides, it has some flaws. For example, this movie ramps up the Italian stereotype to a point that every Italian in this movie is a jerk who carries a revolver or a pistol everywhere. Another flaw is the movie is to short. It could've left a bigger impact and maybe had an extra action scene if it was 10 or 15 minutes longer. Other than that, it's still amazing. The atmosphere is great, it's always entertaining, and it's realistic enough to be satisfying. Overall, it's an amazing ride.
14
Crash 2005,  R)
Crash
This is a brilliant film, with a major flaw or two, but the work Paul Haggis put into the film is outstanding. I would've probably waited till this Monday to review this movie, but I was recommended it by my friend shortly after I got the DVD, so here I'am, and I'm glad I took the time out to watch this. I think the best thing about this film is that if you don't like one character, there are plenty of others to pick through. My absolute favorite, and I think you'll agree, is Daniel, played by Michael Peña. He did outstanding in this movie, doing one of the best performances I've ever seen in film. The last scene of him in the film almost made me cry, which is featured on the movie's poster. Even though all the actors did great, the other one that really stood out in my opinion was Ludacris as Anthony. It's weird, but it's almost like he's a role model, except the character does bad things. There's plenty of characters, and everyone is interesting. The story is simple, it's Los Angelas, and it shows several different characters and how they affect each others lives. Some of them end up turning good or staying good, others turn bad, stay bad, or DIE. It's done very well and it makes you interested in the rest of the movie. Well, those are the good things, but what about the bad? There aren't many, but they're major. First, couldn't they have one story that didn't involve racism? Like, I didn't mind the racism thing, but a story this awesome shouldn't be involved on one topic. Second, some of the jerks in this movie have no reason to be jerks. OK, one woman said she always woke up angry, but what about the others? No reason, and that sucks. Finally, a minor flaw is that HEATH LEDGER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THIS MOVIE!!! Who awesome would that have been? He dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, but luckily he was replaced by Ryan Phillippe, who did really well. So, if you're planning on watch this movie, please do it. It's awesome. Buy the DVD, you won't regret it.

2001: A Space Odyssey 1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
The beginning of this movie sucks. It's pointless, meaningless, and is just monkeys and spaceships flying around to good music. The ending of this movie sucks. It's unclear, retarded, and *SPOILER* all the characters die except one, who turns into a FETUS. However, the middle of this movie is perfect. Why? Because it has 2 things; Dialogue that lasts longer than one scene and Hal. Yes, Hal is the best thing about this movie. Without him, this would just be a below average movie with awesome special effects. Anyways, the plot was good and the acting was good, and the characters are pretty likable (to bad one guy ended up being younger than his daughter) and they ended up having their plot imitated by several TV shows. So, it's a good movie, and if you don't mind a useless opening and a INSANE and HORRIBLE ending, it might be a nice movie to watch.

The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
With some of the best cast choices, an amazing director, and an amazing script, was there any doubt this film would be amazing? It's completely mind blowing on what Francis Ford Coppola did, as well as the every single person who worked on it. No wonder it's said to be one of the best films of all time! It's completely outstanding. I wouldn't even be afraid to call this movie perfect. It really pushes the limits of a mob film, and every film following a concept even slightly similar to this has taken points from this film. Firstly, let's talk about the plot, because there's not much to say without giving away anything, but I'll do my best. It's about the Corleone family, a "Mafia" family and their struggle with the leader of the family, Don, grows aged, and Michael, his son, is to take his place when he passes away. I would say more, but it's very complex and long, and I'd spoil some of the surprises, so just trust me on this, the plot is very well done. Now, something very important, the violence. The violence is gruesome, disturbing, and very intense, absolutely NOT recommended for kids, even with adults around. Now, something I must warn, as it really confused me for the first while: The first half of the film is why many consider the film boring, and I have a reason for that. It seems that Francis Ford Coppola wanted to really develop the characters and make them as important in the film is possible, so he seems to take the entire first half of the film to develop the characters, which is about an hour and thirty minutes. So, I shall warn you, if you hate slow movies, and don't care much about these types of characters, don't watch this movie, you'll be bored to death. As for everyone else, you can definitely enjoy the first half, especially because it makes the second half more intense and significant. So, don't be surprised if the movie seems very slow, it's worth it. Now, because this might be known as my most viewed post ever, as the film is well known, I shall do The Best and Worst of "The Godfather". The best was difficult for me to decide. I had to choose between the acting and the editing, so I've decided to pick the one I think is more important to a film, and acting edges out. The acting was outstanding. Al Pacino was the best by far, with his unlimited emotions and amazing delivery, he was tremendous in this performance. Also, James Caan and John Cazale were amazing, Marlon Brando made the character feel real, as if he wasn't Marlon Brando, he was the character, and Robert Duvall... awesome. Even the minor characters were portrayed wonderfully by their actors. Now the worst part of the film, which was extremely hard for me, but I decided to go with the ending, not because it was bad, far from it, I actually really liked the ending, but unlike everything else in the movie, it has a flaw. It feels empty, like it made you care so much for the characters, you were so interested in them, and right at the last few seconds, it literally shuts the door on them, basically saying "That's all you get, I don't care if you want more, you'll just have to wait 2 years for the sequel". I mean, it's a good ending, but it's the only thing in this movie I can complain about. So, overall, what would I say about this movie? Well, it's one of the best, check it out, you will not regret it. 5/5

Casablanca 1942,  PG)
Casablanca
What can I say about "Casablanca"? Well, in most of my movie reviews, I'd say what the plot was like, the acting, the cinematography, etc, but I feel it's a waste of time because everything is done extremely well in this movie, but let me just tell you the best thing about this movie, and I don't think it's any surprise; HUMPHREY BOGART. Before I watched this movie, I heard he was the best actor ever, and agree; he's pretty awesome. You can tell how he feels with one simple facial expression, and he stands out above everyone else, he's THAT awesome. Not to say the other actors weren't bad, they were top-notch, but they looked like DIRT compared to Bogart. Back on to the topic of the actual MOVIE, the plot, like I said above, was outstanding. It made the characters way more interesting and you always want to find out what happens. My only gripe with the movie is it can be pretty boring at times, and a couple scenes are pretty pointless, but those scenes are kept at few and the boring scenes last two or three minutes, no longer. Well, besides that, theres nothing else to say. I know my review is a little short, but it doesn't need anymore words to describe how awesome it is.

City Lights 1931,  G)
City Lights
This is the first time I ever watched a Charlie Chaplin movie, and this movie is truly amazing. Chaplin was hilarious, the supporting actors are awesome, and the ending was one of the best ever. The unique comedy made me laugh so hard, I had to take frequent breaks so I could catch my breath. There are 2 story lines, one is hilarious, and one is romantic, even though the romantic one can lead to some funny scenes. I'd recommend this movie to any age, young, old, dead, not born yet, EVERYBODY!!!!! Anything less than 5 stars would be an insult.

The Lion King 1994,  G)
The Lion King
This movie fits every genre it attempts to fit under. Action, adventure, drama, family, musical, etc are all different genres this movie is. That's how epic and amazing it is. The acting is done well, the songs are well worth singing too, and I think this the only movie besides "The Gold Rush" that made me both cry and laugh like crazy. I think my only complaint is Matthew Broderick, who voices adult Simba. He didn't do bad, but he didn't meet my expectations. Thank god we don't hear him sing much. Besides that, this is an outstanding movie. The chemistry between two characters (Even Adult Simba) was outstanding. It felt like they were actually talking to each other, rather than reciting lines from a script. Another amazing thing about this movie is the opening and the ending. They're both epic, they have great songs and they make you feel good. Yet another great thing about this movie is the villain, Scar. Scar is threatening, has a developed personality, and sometimes, he's just plain scary, which makes him a great villain that you just want to smack in the face. Overall; this is a tremendous movie for all ages. It's meaningful and charming, and I believe your children will enjoy it for that.

WALL-E 2008,  G)
WALL-E
Welcome to the Second Movie of My Movie Reviewing Marathon! If you want to see the first review of the marathon, check out my review of Ghostbusters, but let's begin: Wall-E is an outstanding film, with outstanding characters and really funny moments, so it shows Disney still got it. I expected the best movie ever, and even though I was a little disappointed with the result, it's still an excellent film in general, and well worthy of 5 Stars. The plot is simple. The year, although very briefly explained, is 2805. The world is basically destroying itself, and trash compacting machines called "Wall-E's" are left to clean up the mess. Why is the world ruined, you may ask? Well, in 2105, the litter in the world became to much to handle, so a company called Buy-n-Large (BnL) evacuated the earths population on fully automated Starships. They left the trash compacting robots their to clean up, and in 5 years, they would return. However, in 2110, when expected to go back, the toxins became extremely poisonous, so they wouldn't return to Earth until a piece of biological life was found, and with the ships futuristic technology, the would get a hold of the life, and reproduce it on the Earth so it would be habitable again. Lot's of back story, huh? Well, you ain't heard nothing yet. The movie focuses on one of the Wall-E's as he compacts litter and waste into cubes the size of him. He becomes friends with a cricket and finds a piece of plant life that he keeps in a boot. Soon, he finds another robot by the name of Eve, who's mission is to find plant life for the Starship. Wall-E has a rough time, but soon becomes friends with Eve, but as he does, he shows Eve the plant life, and Eve collects the plant life and locks it up in herself until the Starship comes down and collects her, which Wall-E then follows. It's a very long, yet simple story, perfect for kids, unlike Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or any other kids movie that's animated and is just made to make money, with little thought process involved. So, as you can see, the story and characters, my favorite parts about movies, are done really well, so what didn't I like? Well, I only disliked one thing, yet I disliked it so much, even though it's only one small thing, I almost lowered this movie's rating to 4 1/2 stars! The only flaw about this movie was the slapstick. God I hate slapstick. It's rarely done right. What people don't get about slapstick is that it doesn't make a character likable or interesting in any way possible. For example, Charlie Chaplin. He's a character that's main focus is slapstick. But it's not just the slapstick that makes him funny. It's his charm, his hilarious lines of dialogue, his kindness, and overall, he's just such a developed character, it actually makes the slapstick work. Wall-E is also a great character, but the thing is, the makers of the film believe that the character isn't likable enough for kids, so they throw slapstick in just so kids will enjoy him. Slapstick doesn't make a character, the intentional actions do, which even though Wall-E is a great character, they ignore any other chances to develop the character, and just show slapstick. Solution: Develop the character more before having slapstick involved, like Buster Keaton in "The General". Either that, or make it seem like he enjoys the slapstick, like Chaplin in "City Lights". Also, so I don't just ramble on about what I like in the movie, I'll mention one more flaw, a small one, but it's still a flaw, which is the physics. When Wall-E latched on the Starship and keeps holding on, I can live with that. I mean, he IS a machine, I think he can latch on to another machine without having to let go. But what really bugs me about that part of the film is when the Starship reaches space. It's obvious that Wall-E is just an old rusted robot, so how does he stay together while flying in space? Here are reasons why that scenes, as well as several others featuring him flying in space, don't work:
1. He's small and hollow, so he'll probably be crushed by space's little gravity.
2. He's old, so he'll probably fall apart.
3. There are obviously more than one Wall-E on Earth, so are they all strong enough to survive the vacuum of space even though they seem easy to build? Probably not.
4. The chains on his wheels are obviously loose, and his eyes can move, so they'd probably have a rough time in space.
5. Are you telling me that satellites in space can blow up any second, yet a trash compacter that moves can stay in shape with ease?
6. He clearly let's go at one point, so shouldn't he have flew a million feet in a few seconds?
7. Wouldn't he be frozen solid if he was in space?
OK, that's enough, as I don't really hate those scenes at all, I just thought they were unrealistic. But really though, those were the only to flaws I could find, as both the human and robot characters are really good, the story is complex, yet it's so well explained that even a 6 year old could understand it, the voice acting was outstanding (Even though, I'm dead serious, the best voice actor was Macintalk, as it's a computer voicing a computer, which sounds very natural), the villain is great, the animation is some of the best I've seen in a while, and the direction was great too. So overall, if you can handle those flaws above, this will be one of your favorites, of both Dinsey, and Pixar. I recommend it to kids, and people who are still kids at heart. 5 Stars. Oh yes, I almost forgot: R.I.P Justin Wright 1981-2008.

Black Swan 2010,  R)
Black Swan
And the secret movie finishing off my movie marathon is.... Wait, you probably already know, unless I made a blog spot for reviewing movies, like my friend khan27052 (By the way, his blog is really good, link on his profile, and if you want to go to his profile, he's at the top of my friends list, with the name "Asif K"), but anyways, who cares, the secret finishing movie is Black Swan! Yes, my goal of watching every Best Picture nominated film of 2010 (It was held in 2011, but featured 2010 films) is more than halfway finished, as I only have 4 more films to go, The Kings Speech, True Grit, Winters Bone, and The Kids are all Right, but anyways, TO THE REVIEW!: Black Swan tortured my mind. It made me think so hard I can never stop thinking about it, the camera work made me feel as if it were a dream, and the violence was extremely disturbing and nauseating... and I loved it. Sure, it made made me think more than "Inception", and two days after watching it, I thought about it to hard and almost threw up, I'm still a huge fan, though it lacks story. That's the only reason this didn't achieve 5 Stars, as the story is really simple and had little thought process involved, it's just a dancer who wants a role, but goes insane. This is how I think the thought process between Aronofsky and his film crew went down:
Aronofsky: OK, I got this idea for a film.
Film Crew Member: Sweet! What do you got?
Aronofsky: OK, it's about a ballerina who want's a role in Swan Lake.
Film Crew Member: Hasn't that been done to death?
Aronofsky: Yeah, Yeah, but then the dancer goes insane and has hallucinations.
Film Crew Member: You did that in Pi AND Requiem for a Dream.
Aronofsky: Yeah, but this time, we'll get hot girls... How about Natalie Portman and the voice actress for Meg from Family Guy?
Film Crew Member: Meg's ugly.
Aronofsky: The voice actress ain't.
Film Crew Member: Still, I have doubt, shouldn't we do something uplifting, maybe we could...
Aronofsky: NO.
Film Crew Member: FINE!
Or something like that. Anyways, that basically explains the plot with little depth, but let's get to the good stuff. The acting was great, the characters were decent, and the dancing scenes were completely OUTSTANDING. They're reason enough to love this movie, they move with such grace, such emotion, such conflict, they're so amazing, I can watch just those dance scenes edited in a short film and give it 5 Stars, they're that amazing, but the story brings it down to 4 1/2. Even still, this movie is probably worthy of it's Best Picture nomination, even though it definitely didn't win for a reason, aside from the Oscar committee being as picky as a 14 year old action movie fanatic who doesn't like any movie that's more than 2 months old, or black and white, and his/her favorite movie is the second Transformers. Overall, it lacks story, but any film buff or horror fan will really enjoy it. I don't recommend it to the general public, as they'll have nightmares for weeks, but film buffs, Oscar fanatics like me, and horror fans should definitely check this out. 4 1/2 Stars.

The Fighter 2010,  R)
The Fighter
Even though I could safely call this film overrated, it's still a great movie. It almost feels real, what with the dilemmas that go on within the family, and within the ring. Sure, it's no Rocky or On the Waterfront, but it's entirely unique and well executed. The story is that a boxer by the name of Mickey Ward (Yes, the real life famous boxer Mickey Ward) is a determined boxer who's always overshadowed by his half-brother, Dicky, who was an amazing boxer who's career was almost ruined because of drugs and crime. Now, Micky has to show that he's a good boxer after a string of losses by dominating in the ring. That's basically the plot of this film, and it's a basic story, and done well here. But enough of that, I bet you all want to know about what I thought of the acting, right? Well, I thought it was OK. It wasn't really anything special, but it wasn't horrible. Wahlberg was OK, but not memorable, Bale was good, but tended to overact at times, Adams was pretty good, but there wasn't much of her in my opinion, Leo did OK, and McGee also did OK, but no one really stood out to me. Everyone says the acting is so amazing, but I felt it wasn't the acting wasn't so good, but the characters and the dialogue that really made people believe the acting was great. Now, because it's been in a lot of my reviews, let's find out The Best and Worst of The Fighter. Now, for the best, I either had to go with the the characters or the cinematography, but I decided to pick the cinematography, as it was AWESOME in this film. It was laid back and cool for most of the film, and intense and direct during the boxing scenes. The cinematography was just really cool in this film. The worst thing about this movie... I really can't say. Nothing was bad. Sure, several stuff was mediocre, but definitely not bad. So, for the worst of this movie, I'll just say the worst is the hype. One more thing worth mentioning, if anyone knows of anymore good David O. Russell films, can you let me know? He did awesome. Overall. this was a great movie, but slightly overrated. I would recommend it to fans of past boxing movies, or fans of any of the actors. 4 Stars.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
There are not words to describe how much this movie astounded me. Now, let me just say I watched the original theatrical version of this movie, so there was no CGI or added scenes, but it's still an amazing, top notch movie. The acting is amazing, the characters are unique, likable, and have tons of personality, and the cinematography is amazing. The special effects are some of the best I've ever seen, and it just shows that you don't need CGI to make a movie great. With CGI, you can tell it's fake and you know it's not there, like in the King Kong remake, it's obvious that Kong is fake and it's annoying, but in this, it feels like it's all happening around you, and it doesn't feel artificial.I think the only problem I had with this film is that in the Climax, it seems they made a whole bunch of characters just to be destroyed by the Death Star. Other than that, it's perfect. It's the first movie I know of that is both creative, but also takes old ideas and make them new without making them cliches which I find that a sign of genius directory. One last thing, Darth Vader is the perfect villain. When he's around, you can feel a sense of power in him, which makes him threatening and cool at the same time. Overall, it's indescribable. Just watch it for yourself and see what I mean.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Who would've thought that a great movie would be a huge letdown? That's exactly what I thought of The Two Towers. The first film, The Fellowship of the Ring, was one of my favorite films of all time. Each scene had a major reasoning for being there, and you can tell each scene had a lot of care and heart put towards it. This movie doesn't have that feel to it. Sure, it continues the story rather well, but as a sequel to one of the greatest films of all time, it falls flat. I guess my biggest flaw with it is doesn't take itself seriously as much as the first film. Gollum is not very likable or serious, the dialogue is not always intriguing, the action is unrealistic and not as brutal as you might expect, every actor looks as if they want all the cameras focused on them, and the first couple minutes are more epic then the rest of the film, even though it's a flashback. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Why'd you give the film 3 1/2 stars even though you have so much complaints to it"? Well, because it's an enjoyable adventure. It's flawed, but it has heart. The acting isn't the best, but they get the job done. It may not be as good as the first, but it's a great movie in it's own right. There's so many bad things, yet there's plenty of good things to even out the score. It's just a flawed, but still great film. Now, for the best thing, well, besides the story, and that would be the special effects, which were even better than the first film, and you feel as if you were transported to middle-earth itself. The only bad thing about the special effects is they upstage everything else, but luckily the effects are subtle, so it doesn't upstage the story. If you liked the first film, I really have no idea what you'll think of this. I thought it was pretty good, but other people thought it was a masterpiece. I guess I'll recommend it if you liked the first, but don't be surprised if it's not as good.

The Wizard of Oz 1939,  G)
The Wizard of Oz
Have you ever wondered what a new generation would think of this movie? Well, you came to the right place. As a young teenager, whenever I ask a person my age if they watched it, I always received the same response; "It sucks". Well, I just watched it for myself, and let me just say it doesn't suck. It's great. The characters are legendary, the acting is amazing, and the story is very entertaining. Now, I know what you're thinking; "If you liked it so much, why didn't you give it 5 stars?". Well, there are some flaws, both major and minor, that bring this movie a little lower than I expected. Firstly, all the songs haven't aged well. The lyrics are primitive and strange, and it kinda makes the movie less likable. The only exception is "Over the Rainbow", which is an amazing song. Another flaw is editing. Sometimes it's done excellently, other times, not. For example, after the group get's the witch's broomstick, they don't show the long boring trek to get back to the wizard, they just skip to when they get to the wizard. That's excellent. But, other times they just screw it up. For example, you don't have any idea how long the trip to the Emerald City takes. They always just edit to something important, which, sure, makes the movie less boring, but you don't feel like you're going on the adventure with the friends. If they made the trip longer, with some dialogue thrown in to make it less boring, you could have actually felt as if you were going on the trip. If these flaws didn't exist, this would've been a 5 star film, but that isn't so, but even with those flaws, it's still a great movie, really deserving more recognition from people my age. Before I end this review, let me just say if you knew that every main character in this movie was dead (I say main because I'm not sure if any of the munchkins are still alive, especially considering one died just last year), it makes the movie very surreal to watch. Try it for yourself, it's weird.

This movie is visually stunning. I think that's the only thing people like about this movie. No one ever talks about it's unique plot, it's amazing climax, and its great ending. Sure, the acting could've been better, but at least they didn't have a million different celebrity cameos. Also, there are a couple cliches in the movie you can find in Pixar movies and Disney shows, but besides those two minor flaws, this is an amazing movie. It looks amazing in Blu-Ray so I'd recommend watching it on Blu-Ray instead of DVD. There are plenty of rumors going around that this will be a planned Trilogy, but I don't think that'll work very well, because it was fun to see Sully as both a Human and a Na'vi, but since the ending said *Spoiler!* that he's now all Na'vi, the movies will just show the Na'vi instead of humans as well. Overall, it's a great movie that you should have in your collection.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 1939,  Unrated)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Some people say Wizard of Oz, others say Gone with the Wind, but in my opinion, the best of the amazing year of 1939 HAS to be Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Excellent direction, awesome acting, and some of the best editing I have ever seen in a film. It deserves every single accolade it received, and more. The story is actually quite complex and interesting. It's about Jefferson Smith, played by James Stewart, who get's nominated for senator after the death of Senator Samuel Foley. Smith was nominated because of his work as the leader of the state's Boy Rangers group. Mr. Smith is a little nervous when he starts out, but he starts to get the hang of it, and tries to introduce some of his ideas, most of them are turned down, so he has to stand up for what he believes in, and by stand up, I really do mean "STAND UP". The story is very well done, even if it seems slightly far-fetched at times. Also, some of the scenes following the story are extremely well done, especially the ending. The characters are very likable and anything but cliches, especially Mr. Smith himself. They feel like real life people, while still being interesting. The acting is outstanding. Every actor, no matter how long they're on screen, leave a big impact. I was even shocked a young African-American boy was in the movie, as this was a time where racism was more widespread. Even still, Gone with the Wind had an African-American woman in a bigger role, so it's not a huge deal, even though it was still a great move by Capra to break the Black/White barrier. Also, James Stewart does completely TREMENDOUS in this film. In my personal opinion, Stewart is the second best actor ever (Behind Chaplin), and this has got to be one of his best roles. He's so intense when he needs to be, but when the movie is calm, so is Stewart. He's actually quite quirky at those parts, but in the climax, he is just powerful with every word. Also, Jean Arthur get's completely lost in her character, and between her and Stewart, it's hard to decide who's better. Now, as every recent review I do does this eventually, it's time for "The Best and Worst of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington". The best, undoubtedly, has to be the last half an hour or so. This is where Mr. Smith talks non-stop, I'm not gonna say what he's talking about, and as time goes by, he get's more and more exhausted, and while he's doing this, his friends try to rally for him, but all attempts fail. The scene is actually depressing, with Mr. Smith talking for hours with no one listening, and his friends failing to rally for him. I won't tell you what happens in the end, but it's a big surprise. The worst of this film... The only huge flaw I can think of is how they portray the government. I know, I know, the government sucked back then like it does now, but it seems to portray the government representatives as snooty, hate-filled, etc, which can get on your nerves at times. Even with that flaw, this is still an awesome, timeless, wonderfully edited, amazingly acted, and tremendously written film, well worthy of a watch for all ages. 5/5.

The Great Dictator
This movie was good and brave, but boring and the humor wasn't up to my standards. Sure, there were some funny scenes, but it's like a little kid made up some of the jokes, like having a language that makes no sense or falling down some stairs. Chaplin was good, but not great. The plot was better than Modern Times but not as good as City Lights. Also, I couldn't even tell it was the barber pretending to be the dictator until right before the speech at the end. The supporting actors were decent, but the best ones only were in a scene or two. I love Charlie Chaplin, but this wasn't as good as some as his other works. If you can't get enough of Charlie, you might like this movie, but if not, you might not like it as much as some other great comedies such as The General, which was made more than 10 years before this. So, it's a good movie, but not great.

District 9
This is a good movie, but I felt as if it didn't execute as much as I expected. I think the thing I disliked the most was how they depict man. This movie depicts man as rude, unintelligent freaks who love violence, especially on the aliens. If I had to pick Humans or Aliens, I defiantly go with the aliens because sure, they're violent sometimes, but they don't often look for trouble and they're actually quite likable. Now, lets get the main things out of the way, the acting was decent, the story was pretty good, and the way they treat the moral is O.K at best. I think the thing that they do the best is the cinematography. Sure, it's a little cliched, but I always loved the documentary style of camera work in Sci-Fi films. That style appears both in the beginning and the end of the film and I think it's done well. Another thing I liked was the chemistry between the adult alien and the child alien. I know that sounds stupid, but trust me, it's pretty entertaining and heart warming. Also, the main human character gets infected and starts turning into an alien. It's actually pretty depressing if you think about it long enough, which is good for this movie. This definitely isn't movie of the year, but I still think it's a pretty good alien movie.

I always wondered what this movie was like. Critics said it was good while viewers thought it was either the best thing ever or extremely overrated. When I was a kid, I thought it was good, but I never watched it all, I just watched the sinking. Now that I'm a lot older, I can say it's an awesome movie. Call me a fan boy, I know people always insult the movie, as well as it's fan base, but I found it as a very enjoyable movie. Instead of just saying the things I liked and disliked however, I'm going to discuss the most popular, and sometimes most ridiculed, things in this movie. First, the romance. Some people say it's awesome, some say it's horrible and fake. I thought it was good. I cared for Rose and Jack and the actors (Which, by the way, are played by awesome actors) did really well. My only problem with the romance is that it seemed doomed from the start. What I mean is they act like every day is their last, and they're over-dramatic about everything. They're very enjoyable however, and you feel really worried when the boat is actually sinking (It's not a spoiler unless you're not in school). Next, the special effects. This is a no brainer. The special effects are outstanding. I think it's because the CGI is just a detail and not shoved into your face as much, unlike James Cameron's other movie, Avatar, which otherwise is an awesome movie. Next, something that only lasts less than 20 seconds, yet has been known as both an awesome moment and a over-dramatic mess. Yes, I'm talking about "I'm The King Of The World!". This is the most discussed quotation I've ever heard and my life, and I just have to mention it here. Let me just make it quick so I don't talk about one line of dialogue throughout the whole review, it's cheesy, but in my opinion, acceptable. Finally, the actually movie itself (Finally!). The acting is great, the story is great, even though it's half fact, half fiction, and the characters are mixed. Some are likable, others, not. Overall; it's a great movie that has a fault of two, like those snooty idiot characters who don't even die, or there are one of two pointless scenes, but it's still an enjoyable and all around great movie.

The Blues Brothers
This may not be the most brilliant or most story driven movie, but watching this movie was one of the funnest things I ever did, up there with riding a 100 foot water slide, and watching Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video for the first time. I'm serious, I'm so glad I watched this. This is the movie "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Wold" done right. The characters are awesome, the jokes are amazingly hilarious, and the songs... let's just say they're some of my favorites. Now, let's explain the story. The former teacher of these two main characters make them earn $5000 to save an orphanage. According to the two main characters, it was a "Mission from God". That plot is simple, but the two main characters get into so much trouble, it'll make your head explode. They have police in cars chasing them, police on horses, police in boats, a country band, THE ARMY, NAZIS, etc. So yeah, they decide to get a band they were in back together so they can get a gig to earn money, but they got to watch out for the people that chase them. It's complete madness and keeps you on the edge of your seat, yet makes you laugh all the way through. It's that amazing. Also, the dialogue is hilarious, with some awesome comedic moments that don't involve huge and expensive car chases (Even though those are pretty amazing as well, and exploits The French Connection and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World for what they really are: Boring). Now, the best part: THE SONGS. I already said they were great, but god they need a huge amount of mentioning. They're memorable, catchy, and enjoyable, really bringing out the potential of the Blues music genre. So, I can't just sit here talking about the good things, so here are a few flaws............................................ I really got nothing. If there were flaws, I didn't notice them cause I was to busy HAVING A GOOD TIME. Apparently 15% of the critics didn't have a good time and don't know entertainment when they see it. So that's about it. I'm dead serious, I can't talk about anything in huge details cause it's all so amazing. I didn't find any flaws, but I did find 2 hours of enjoyment in this film. I would recommend it to anyone... that's it, just anyone. Now I just wish Flixster had a Six Star option...

Batman Begins 2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
I'm glad I watched "The Dark Knight" before this, cause this is pretty horrible. I mean, it's not the worst, nor is it the most overrated, but it has so many noticeable flaws, it took my out of the movie early on. The biggest flaw was the action scenes. The Dark Knight had great action scenes. They were quick, stylish, and entertaining. These action scenes are extreme close-ups with the camera shaking around like crazy! They're so horrible that I will go as far to say they're some of the worst of the entire 21 century! Also, the story. Half of it is just boring back story that everyone already knows, with little changed. It wastes time that we can spend learning new things about Batman and enjoy new experiences. Oh yeah, the acting and the characters suck. Nobody stood out at all, and the characters were bland and unlikable. That was a flaw in The Dark Knight too, but they made up for that with The Joker. This movie had The Scarecrow, who's actually undeveloped, and Ra's Al Ghul, who, let's face it, sucks. Now, with flaws, there has to be SOMETHING good about the movie, right? (That's actually not true for Manos: The Hands of Fate, Plan 9 From Outer Space, Vampire's Suck, The Shaggy Dog remake, Etc.) Well, Batman is pretty decent in this movie, and the special effects are pretty sweet. The story, even though it's really monotonous, is still Batman's back story, and it's pretty cool to say the least. The music score is pretty cool, and nothing really was god-awful, just bad. But that still doesn't make this a good movie. Oh, and if there's one thing I like more in this movie than anyone else, it was the batmobile. Sure, The Dark Knight's Batmobile was better, but I liked this one too. Overall, it's a below average superhero movie that tries to hard to be stylish and action packed at the same time, which it falls flat on it's face in both categories. Not recommended unless you're a die hard Batman fan.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Before I begin this review, let me just say that, like Episode 4, I watched the theatrical version of this movie, so there was no CGI or added scenes, and I have to say, this movie gets almost everything right. The special effects are amazing and better than the original, the characters are interesting and unique, the tension is great, the atmosphere is wonderful, so what can be wrong with this movie? Well, the answer is the story itself. It moves along at a snails pace and doesn't get interesting until near the end. Another major problem I had with this movie is *SPOILER ALERT* near the end, Darth Vader cuts Luke's arm right off, and yet he can stand there long enough to here Darth Vader make his quite impressive and shocking speech, then he crawls away. In real life, he would just pass out in shock and most likely die from blood loss. *END OF SPOILER* But even with those major flaws and several other minor flaws, it's still a great movie, for the reasons at the beginning of this review plus it's acting, it's cinematography, its amazing twist, and it's great action scenes. Since the plot sucked, I took away half a star, and because of the other major flaw, plus some minor flaws, I took away another half a star, so if those two flaws didn't exist, this probably would have 5 stars, but the flaws were to hard to ignore. I think it's a great, but not amazing, sequel to an outstanding movie. 4 stars is the only acceptable rating for me.

One of the best movies of the year, no doubt, but the movie was very identical to the first and second. But you have to give writers credit, after two movies with Andy as a kid, they decide to make him a regular teen. The very first scene was epic and entertaining (Which shocked me) and this is one of the first movie that I came close to crying and, belive me, most of the people in the theater were crying too. 2010 has been a bad year for movies (mostly animated). But Toy Story 3 made me think differently. Watch this movie. If you won't, you are going to miss out on one of the best movies of the year.
63
The King's Speech 2010,  PG-13)
The King's Speech
The King's Speech is not the best film of the year, but it's still a well acted, well directed, and overall great film. It really keeps you interested in the characters and story, and it has a memorable quality to it. It's not perfect, but it mixes sophistication with entertainment very well. The story is about George VI, played by the wonderful Colin Firth. After his father, George V, dies, George VI is crowned King of England. The problem with this is that is George VI has had a speech impediment all his life, and as king, he has to make important speeches publicly. So, as the country is at war and in need of a leader, his wife arranges for her husband to see a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush. I won't say anymore, as I just described the first half hour right there. So yeah, the plot is really simple, which can actually be one of this film's downfalls. The films accomplishes so little in such a long time, and even though that often leads to more atmosphere and character development, which it does here, it leaves time to be bored, which is a flaw. The characters are hit and miss. The 3 main characters, George VI, the speech therapist, and Queen Elizabeth are all very well done, but the rest of the characters are uninteresting and most of them seem pointless. However, most of those characters only get about 2 minutes of screen time, as most of the screen time involves the 3 main characters, so it's not much a problem, so I'll let it slide. The acting is... hard to explain. Most of the actors do good, but not great. Helena Bonham Carter, who plays one of the three main characters, Queen Elizabeth, also did good, but not amazing. Nobody does bad, but only two people actually do amazing, and I think they were the best actors of 2010, Colin Firth, and, especially Geoffrey Rush. Colin Firth get's a lot of emotion across, make his character feel like he's not Colin Firth, but his character, George VI. Also, the best of the movie, if not the best of the year, Geoffrey Rush. He's so interesting and when you watch the film, you don't see Rush, you see the speech therapist character. That's how good he was. Now, it's time for "The Best and Worst of The King's Speech". Even though it's obvious Geoffrey Rush was the best part about this film, I already described how good he did, so, to bring up something I didn't mention yet, the best is Tom Hooper's direction. He really knows how to keep us interested in such a simple plot as "A guy trying to speak in front of people", and he does it well. With awesome cinematography and camera work, Tom really brought light to a simple concept. The worst, in my opinion, is that, for a film that act's very important and even won Best Picture, it really isn't that revolutionary. This wouldn't be a problem, but if you're going to make a film that acts like it's a modern classic, it doesn't introduce any new and interesting ideas. Even films like 127 Hours and Black Swan, film's you'd expect to be similar to other films of the past, introduce new ideas that you'd like to see in other films, but this film doesn't do that. So, what's my final opinion of this film? It's flawed, I know that, but it's very entertaining, very memorable, very atmospheric, and with 2 of the best performances of the year (Though James Franco would argue), this is a great film. Worth the watch any day, just don't expect the best film ever. 4/5.
64
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
I decided to watch this movie to see if it was better than the admittedly adequate "Thin Red Line", which came out the same year. In my opinion, this movie is WAY better. The acting is great, the action scenes were amazing, and the story was pretty good for a war film. This movie always keeps you on the edge of your seat as you're watching people get killed in horrendous ways. Actually, this entire movie is kinda a horror. Watching people die either slowly or instantly as you can do nothing to stop it. Its quite terrifying knowing that all of this actually happened. It makes the movie more gripping and intense, which is why I love Steven Spielberg's movies so much. Another thing that this movie did right, which "Thin Red Line" did wrong was the characters back stories. In "Thin Red Line", only one character has actual back story, and it sucks. Here, several characters have back stories, and they're all interesting. Enough comparing, let's talk about the experience as a whole, because it makes you feel as if you're in the war yourself. The camera angles, the horrendous sights and sounds (In a good way, if that makes sense), and the overall realism makes the movie feel as if a camera crew went into WW2 and just directed there. Yet, whats a movie without an awesome opening? Spielberg must have realized this because the Normandy sequence is outstanding and really well put together. I actually think if they just made the opening a feature length film, i'd still give this five stars. My only problem with the film is they risk the lives of 8 men to save one person. Well, isn't that kinda dumb to risk plenty of people to save one person who could even be dead, its just a little far fetched for me, but its still an unforgettable movie.

It actually lets you decide whether to like the elephant man or be prejudiced, which really dives into the human soul. Sounds awesome.

Donnie Darko 2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
This movie is weird, unrealistic, and involves a talking animal. Usually, those are the three things I hate most in a movie, (Even though The Lion King involved all of these things, yet was still awesome) but this is definitely one of the most creative, freaky, and surreal movies I've ever seen. I think the thing I liked most is the fact that it's trying to give it a horror movie feel without actually being a horror film, except without any of the "shock" type of horror. I love that because I hate shock horror. It always gets you when you least expect and it's being frightened isn't the same, or as fun as being actually scared. Another amazing thing about this movie is Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie Darko, as I think it was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in a Sci-Fi Film. No, better yet, It's one of the best I've seen EVER. It's up there with Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump or Christopher Lloyd as "Doc" Brown. Whenever he needs to emote an emotion, such as happiness, sadness, scared, bored, etc, he does it with ease. When I watched this movie, I didn't see Jake, I saw Donnie. The supporting actors also did really well, sometimes they had a minor encounter when they didn't act like they should have, but they still did very well. *SPOILER!!* Now, I think I should discuss the ending, as it's different in the DVD release. On the version I saw, it ends with Donnie going back in time and getting crushed by the jet plane engine, afterwards, Gretchen talks to a neighbor about what happened. I later figured out that was an alternate scene for the DVD, with the real ending being the scene before it, with the mother and the daughter being on a plane and the engine fell off, going back in time. I would definitely prefer the DVD version because it's more clear, more rewarding, and more memorable. If you get the chance, get this movie on DVD or Blu-Ray. You wont regret it.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
This movie is definitely not what I expected, and yet, I liked it. No wait, I loved it. The plot was unique and amazing, and the acting was amazing. Jim Carrey played one of the most likable characters I've ever seen in cinema, Winslet did great, and the supporting actors did great, excluding Elijah Wood, who only did O.K. Michel Gondry did an amazing job putting this movie together. This movie was funny, romantic, creepy, and dramatic. You'll like this movie, trust me.

Planet of the Apes 1968,  G)
Planet of the Apes
This is one of the most creative movies I've seen in a long time. It's truly amazing, the acting is amazing, the plot is amazing, and it has one of the best twist endings I've seen in a movie in a long time. It's very unique and impossible not to love. There are not very many flaws, but one is when one character gets shot in the neck, he starts bleeding and falls down a small waterfall, but, somehow, he's still alive! Also, if the humans were wiped out, how did the Apes learn English? Was there one man left to teach them the language before he died? If you can ignore the two flaws, though, it turns out to be an amazing movie! I'd recommend this movie to anybody that is a fan of Sci-Fi.

The Princess Bride
I think almost everybody likes this movie, and for good reason. First, it has probably the most genres a film can have. Let me list them off: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Family, Fantasy, Romance, and Sport! Second, it's just a ton of fun to watch. When my friend at the movie rental store said this was one of his favorite movies of all time after he recommended it to me, I looked at him funny. I thought, "His favorite movie is a chick flick?". Little did I know how amazing it would be. It's as funny as Back to the Future, as romantic as Titanic, and as likable as The Wizard of Oz, and if that doesn't lead to a 5 star film, I don't know what will. It actually shocked me on how good it is, and that's mainly because the director, Rob Reiner, directed The Bucket List, which was good, but had the stupidest plot imaginable. Luckily, he kept things simple here, with just a grandfather telling a fairy tale to a young boy, who is oddly enough played by Fred Savage. This movie also has a great cast, featuring Cary Elwes, Chris Sarandon, and Peter Falk. The characters are comedic and likable, with my favorite one being Inigo Montoya. He's funny, likable, athletic, and has a developed personality. Even though Inigo is my favorite character, there are tons of great ones to choose from, and none are either unendurable or unfunny, which is another thing this movie has going for it. My only problem with the film was there were one or two boring moments, like the beginning of the boat scene, but luckily they don't last to long and they're worth enduring to watch the great scenes. Before I end this review, let me just say, Guys, don't let the romance vibe drive you away, the movie is amazing and hilarious, and even if you don't enjoy the romance, there are lots more things to enjoy to this movie.
