i havent seen original keitel version since its video debut back in 1990s, but remember a plot revolving around his quest to track down people who raped nuns in a church, thats gone and some more diferences, so not a faithfull remake here, even newyork changed to new orleans, but cage is magnificent to watch, throughout the film, hes on fire, and some surreal and good moments of mayhem, werner hertog, a filmaker i like has a reputation of being a bit mad, and here you can certainly see his soul coming out a bit

superbly acted by three actors, the ever reliable phillip seymour hoffman, ethan hawke and albert finney. the story, told in great use of flashbacks, concerns 2 brothers, who in need of money, hatch a plan to knock off a jewellery store, the catch, its there parents store, it should go simple, but unforseen circumstances , turn things sour, a great crime thriller, i dident know where it was taking me, with some neat story points along way, hoffman gets away from his loser guy roles, here he still plays a loser, but with a definate edge, hawke as usuall does great and finney given a interesting and inportant rle as father to the two, even marisa tomei proving some talent, slickly directed by veteran sydney lumet, great use of the structure, a great film to show of acting

david lynch produces while werner hertzog directs, 2 crazy people together, so considering the two, its not the weirdest thing you'll ever see. but it certainly has elements of the two directors, theres even a lynch dwarf making a apearence, and michael shannon, who always seems to be playing loopy or just weird plays that again here, fitting in well with a hertzog film, the film itself, is sometimes muddled, but i t entertained me enough, and moments to entertain

very good performances from the two leads, as a couple in 50s america trying to live the american dream, argueing and just trying to get throughb there dull existence, decaprio as the father working a office job he doesent want to do, and having affairs, and winslets housewife, living the life and it certainly not being what she hoped, but hopes are raised when, a impulse to pack up to paris is thought of, a atempt on her part for her husband to find his goal in life. will they get there dream or will events turn for the worse. the two actors have great scenes to chew on, shouting away, and some great drama, although the 50s married life and tabboos have been done beter, this certanly is a good watch, and interesting to see what rose and jack from titanic could certainly be doing with there lives if they made it

A powerful film and a very decent role for Butler. the story sets up well his criminal past back home in the u.s his eventual faith in god and turning life around there, and once jetting back and fourth to sudan to set up a orphanage the story is well told also. action beats showing the struggle are well handled and show the danger he and others are up against. Butlers u.s accent which has grated in past is again just okay here, but he has lots to chew on here. not the action film 12 year olds will expect from poster but enough to entertain and a powerful story at its heart.

i enjoyed it, it wasent terrible by any means and the 80 minutes running time was a factor making it this way, it dident outstay its welcome, and although you can see troubles in the story and production, it was a very down looked upon film last year, there are entertaining moments to be had, brolin does bring something to his role, so its certainly not down to him, there are weak bad guys, but overall enjoyable not bad
