128
Jurassic Park 1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
i find it hard 2 review this film because i had thought sometimes ratings speak for themselves..but i've come 2 realise, among the other movies that i hv rated as 5-stars this movie clearly deserves distinction.

alrite then...here we go

well i have always loved 2 c a dinosaur onscreen....worth mentioning that i used 2 collect different dino stickers & other stuff..from a very young age...even going 2 a regional science park was merely an excuse 2 see d dinosaur dummy there..
about the movie well.....this was the 1st dvd i ever bought...besides...probably the 1st English language film i ever saw...& even though i hv watched a great deal of brilliant movie masterpieces..honestly no movie has mesmerised me so much.

speaking of the various dimensions of the film..
all the actors in the movie were unknown 2 me obviously at the time i saw it but i dont think any of the characters were improper...the impact they left on me was great.
now if i consider the movie on its technical aspects...it was certainly way ahead of its time.awesome animatrix, brilliant sound editing & above all supreme direction..a special thanks 2 crichton who imagined such a thing & speilberg for making it come alive.

Finally as i see it for the 300th time...i would like 2 say one thing.."no matter how old i get,no matter how excellent movies i see in future...this movie will always remain my #1 movie & my most favourite of all time".

140
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
oh no...what went wrong
all of a sudden the whole space adventure turned into a cartoonish movie...
on one hand when the luke-vader story was getting exciting...on the other part han, chewy & those ewoks were terribly disappointing...hope the prequels give me some better entertainment
141
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
what a fantastic movie....outstanding!!!!!!!!
brilliant work of special effects, art designing...sound....hard 2 point any flaw
from my point of view...this should be the example for how movies should be followed up with really awesome story....
excellent performances from liam neeson & ewan mcgreggor...though neeson was far better than any other character in the series...besides the most faboulos climax in a star wars movie & then like the '"icing on the cake'":-the fantastic lightsaber combat between qui-gon & obi wan against darth maul....superb display of skills
very impressive........the adventure continues...awesome entertainer
142
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones 2002,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
oh no....not again
i thought people learn from mistakes...but no...instead of providing space adventure,action....it just inserted sloppy romance between padme & anakin(reminds me of HAN &LEIA)
but then again apart from this angle & christensen's poor performance as anakin..i felt the movie could be watched....not 2 forget the combat scenes which were totally awesome specially & specifically
1.lee vs ewan mcgregor
& the best one so far
2.lee(again) vs yoda
the latter one...was ...oh amazing....so even if the movie was great in concept..the hole was in acting but the 2 lightsaber duels save the movie some how.
143
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 2005,  PG-13)
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
good-bad-good again
again in the beginning was shaky with christensen with his cocky acting...but slowly the movie picks up pace & unravels what turned out to be the begginning of the end
once again fantastic graphics, sound & digital mastering......reminded me of the LOTR saga which was like an era...a wonderful one
this indeed was the climax of all the star wars movies...
ultimately now when the saga is over...i need more out of it
eventually i also got the most impressive duel in the entire series....watching obi-wan vs anakin/vader was like......"WHOOOOOOHOOO"
THIS MOVIE ROCKS....& I TOTALLY MEAN IT

True Lies
While everyone is rushing forward these days to watch James Cameron's Avatar,I'm going a little retrospective way! :)

Everyone keeps telling me that this film is funny & ya ya ya....I'll ask one thing to anyone who ever recommended it to me,whatever did u see in this film that was funny?

since I'm not a huge fan of James cameron(well except terminator films & titanic) & dont even like Jamie Lee Curtis or Eliza Dushku,it may be said that Arnold was the only reason for me to watch this film.Even though I enjoy Arnie's typical jokes & bad puns,I heavily disliked this film...I dont really remember why I disliked it so much, but to be honest I dont really find a good thing about this film to write here as well!.

by the way on the film's flixster page you'll note that users have voted it similiar to Titanic? wow....& I thought I was the only one who was funny!
179
Eraser 1996,  R)

Training Day
Some movies require a little patience,in order to achieve the maximum pleasure out of it!

on first view I discarded it as just another mafia-bad cop type of film(even though I was highly impressed by Denzel Washington's performance)

But if I reconsider my decision well it made me change my review.

Like I said earlier Denzel washington plays a great baddie,Ethan hawke is also good in his role.

just one problem I felt was the movie's pace...may be if they could just make it a little low on details or whatever.

But neverthless watching it twice or thrice can affect my decision & i'm willing to give it a retry!

Schindler's List
I never wanted to write a review on this film. Why?

Because I believed words are never enough to describe the greatness of the film.Sadly for some of my local friends this was just another drama movie of 200 minutes,so I had to convince them how great this movie really was!

On my fourth viewing I finally admit there can't be any movie so perfectly prepared ever.Describing holocaust is never easy & what Speilberg did was absolutely amazing.Ofcourse there's always this emotional attachment to any other Speilberg film, but if you're able to capture the capability of the film, you definitely got the worth of your 200 minutes.

I became an instant fan of Liam neeson after watching this film, his expressions, his dialogues truly reflected how deeply he was in the character.Watching him was like feeling every experience through your own eyes.Rest of the cast were also very brilliant in playing their parts.I dont think I'll ever applaud any performance as I did in this film.

also a word of praise to John williams for creating such a powerful & wonderful score that not only draws tears from your eyes but also moves your heart & a brilliant quote in the end by Ben kingsley, which really is one of the most meaningful

"Whoever saves one life saves the world entire"

Black Hawk Down
5 stars? Isnt that a little too much?

NO.From my point of view certainly not.

I love war movies & when you hear Ridley Scott behind the camera you usually know what to expect, well he doesn?t disappoint. So that justifies my star rating(Yeah...I'm biased...go on).

Speaking of the film, the film has too many characters to focus & too many big names to support it.Ewan Mcgreggor,Orlando bloom,Eric bana,Josh Hartnett,Jason Isaac are just a few examples of the ensemble cast .But the most impressive thing with the cast was it didn't really hamper the progress of the film, nor did it stop the story which was meant to be told about the not-so successful mission in Somalia.

The film is very well-done in its technical aspects as well, the cinematography is so brilliant that at times the scenes feel so real that makes you say, "yeah it was worth watching!" The background score & the soundtrack by Hans zimmer is also very wonderfully crafted(I even got the 3-CD edition of this film's OST immediately)! Now finally the film is such a master-piece that you'd be appreciating every dimension of it after you've finished watching it!

Considering it was based on a real story,it was pretty stunning to see how Mr.Scott captured the whole essence of it,genius indeed!

If you like watching war movies, you have to watch it!

Memento
strange...pretty strange but wisely written plot...i mean the story was written in a complicated manner...somehow odd..
although the acting performances seemed 2 impress me....the movie somehow fell short
the sequence of the movie was in
A-B,Y-Z,
C-D,X-Y, FORMAT...& all of a sudden some where the pieces intermix ....
the whole movie was sort of a puzzle done by nolan who left the audience with the pieces scrambled to solve the puzzle by themselves
cool direction...but complicated

ask the filmmakers of this film, about a perfect recipe for "remaking" a brilliant film into crap.
though this movie wasnt scary at alll..u might only be able 2 acknowledge the quality of the original n subseqently hate this one...only if u've seen both of em.

but i wud like 2 congratulate the makers for making a scene-to-scene,dialogue-by-dialogue copy...at least they were good in that.

Home Alone
From a 5-star rating it might appear that I'm a huge fan of the film & stuff, but you wouldnt believe me if I told you that I didnt even wish to buy the film in the first place!

But after watching it for the 1st time it became an instant favorite of mine & still whenever there's christmas I try to watch it.

All of the actors in this film contributed effectively which hence made a great film.Initially watching Joe Pesci in Scorcese films didnt make me a fan of him,but honestly the team of Pesci & stern make you laugh so hard at times, you'd barely able to hold it !

ofcourse there's the magical touch by John williams to this film as well which results in a wonderful background score!

The film also makes you realize how much you can miss your family if they're not around you & the church scene was really touching!

now I'll remember every year, "If it's christmas, then it's Home Alone time!

ah...brilliant movie...excellent script....might be a little complex when u start 2 see it...but then as the different views of characters are served..it provides all the missing parts of the puzzle...which turns out to be a totally awesome movie.

The Matrix
brilliant...yes i mean it,every bit of it.
the innovative story & background not only impressed me highly
but also the action sequences, the dialogues & the performances were of high apprehension.
reeves,moss,fishbourne,weaving,pantoliano.....wow this just keeps getting better & better.

a clear example of how iconic every scene & every dialogue really is...truly a classic.
this masterpiece has certainly guided flixster 2 provide lines under quiz scores
such as-:
'i know kung fu'
'no one has ever made their first jump'
& many more as well.
will remain a special movie in terms of special effects, sound mixing & wonderful charismatic fighting choreography..

Die Hard
die hard has certainly made me its die-hard fan
now that was a perfect action film.
yipee ka yay-john mcclane ....of all the roles i've seen bruce willis in...this will remain the best role he's ever portrayed & hans gruber is just iconic....
perfect image of hollywood villain...wont hesitate 2 say he remains my most favourite bad guy of all time...& it seemed 2 me no one could ever do it without the pair of willis-rickman
perfect just perfect.

Live Free or Die Hard
m pretty confused about the rating & the review myself.....being a fan of action films i liked it a bit but comparing it with d previous 3 made it seem a little extended.

on one side whilst u can easily call it the most extreme action filled movie ever made,on the other side it misses out on few spots
1st-it looked like the directors wanted john mcclane 2 look like invincible.
where in the 1st three films of the series his character seemed 2 be more human, with a punch of humour...i clearly missed these points in the now serious mcclane..
but also on the positive side the story was well written, well directed & like i said before the stunts were extremely extreme.

& the performances of the characters were very enjoyable...

cliff curtis maintains his reflection of portraying various range of characters..
Mary Elizabeth Winstead-wow c looked so cute
Maggie Q-i'm beginning 2 wonder wont c be wonderful as a bond girl!
Justin Long-quite impressive performance
& finally
Timothy Olyphant-awesome he just keeps getting better n better, last time i saw him he was the hitman agent 47 in HITMAN,now this....wow keeps impressing me every time..nice job

& in the end having said all that deep down inside i truly wished 2 see the finale a bit modified...but neverthless...die hard films r unique in their own way...& they will always remain 2 be one of the best movie series ever made.

not bad....in fact quiet entertaining with garner as a no-nonsense kickass babe...the only problem i faced was i found the concept true & which left me rattled...

but i dont blame the filmmakers or the actors..because of the recent terrorist attacks in India..i found it a little hard 2 cope with the story
still gud movie,gud direction.

bogus.....how bad the characters can be!
going by the 4 big faces of this fim,i thought it wud be smthing 2 watch for.
but the chracters were nothing but cheating hypocrites. plus hv 2 admit the fact that this movie crossed judd apatow films' vulgarity of dialogues...probably the dirtiest dialogues n conversations in a film.freaks total freaks

Into the Wild
brilliant..i hv been referred 2 watch this movie by almost all of my flixster frnds...now after watching the film i realise why.
in order 2 appreciate it u need 2 watch it once & trust me you wont be disappointed...definitely worth watching
it was wonderful 2 see how a guy made the journey of his lifetime leaving every possible materialistic attractions.
emille hirsch's character was superb & i think he did justice to the role at least better than his last role in which i saw him chasing elisha cuthbert.
& after hearing so much about kirsten stewart finally got 2 see her in a movie role.she was sweet
excellent sceneries, brilliant story not to forget great characters & ofcourse great direction..
masterpiece of a film.
556
Slumdog Millionaire 2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
ok so finally my review on slumdog..long waited,eh?
I personally feel bad that while most of my friends outside India n nearly all of my local friends hail slumdog as a masterpiece, I admit that i am not a fan of this movie.why?
i have heard many-a-things about this film starting from very positive reviews across the globe to extreme harsh criticisms in my own country....so focussing on these issues...i'll denote
language-: as it was directed by boyle & meant for intl. larger audience..i thought boyle considered having the dialogues said in english.but i m totally against this idea...in my country the people depicted in the film wud never utter a word of english...& the film showed that they even use it while having casual conversations....imagine the guy who never went to school(or partly)who utters several broken english phrases...saying fluent english when he grows up...that was ridiculous..!
stereotype view of India & Indians-: i read(in a blog that i participate) that a certain reviewer claimed that this represents as what the british people perceive India & the Indians as.....i dont wanna curse the reviewer but who the hell do you think you are?Really if anyone from outside has visited India he'd definitely agree that India is a beautiful country enriched with culture n other wonderful assets.....i wudnt disagree that the slums, the citizens, their behavior was irrational..it's real, it exists...but every country has its own backdrops, hasnt it?
AMITABH BACHCHAN India's most reputed actor(who's referred in this film as well, commented on his blog that this film portrays India as a third rate developing country which has a 'dirty underbelly'....i'd really let others know that this isnt the 1st time that the slum-life has been portrayed in cinema
watch madhur bhandarkar's Chandni bar,Ram gopal verma's Satya...i wonder what amitabh has to say regarding this, that is a part of our problems & u certainly cant distance urself from it.
acting-:except the debutants both kids n protagonists..u might notice that most other actors in the background are popular bollywood actors, i.e-anil kapoor.sourabh shukla, irrfan khan, mahesh manjrekar...but none of them really makes u applaud or praise 'em.I agree however that the young children who played their parts exceptionally were worth appraisal...but it made me mad that anil wasnt trying 2 be natural but he was simply overacting(& his daughter claims he's the best host ever???).....why wud he keep on repeating "who wants to be millionaire" instead of "kaun banega crorepati"(which was the actual indian version of the aforementioned show)..& geez did u notice how hostile & rude he was towards jamal...he keeps on calling him chaiwala(tea-seller)...gues u'd never expect a game show host 2 b like that..
the movie was an international success, but it failed in here...u might have already guessed why.....so if u go 2 watch this film as a normal audience unaware of the actual background u'll enjoy it..very much...but if u happen 2 know all these incidents..then probably u'll suffer the same fate that i did.
anyways one final note despite saying all these things...i'd not berate danny boyle or any of the actors....i believe them to have great potentials & i'd also gladly watch their films in future.

The Exorcist III
even after i was disappointed by the previous sequel...i wished it must hv been better as it stars George C. Scott(who won an oscar for patton)...but my perception was hampered so much....that i hv 2 say i think he's a horrible actor.

worth mentioning that the characters werent telling their lines but screaming....felt like being in an asylum.

only gud thing about the film was when the theme was played for a few sec.s in the opening credits...rest of the film TORTURE

wtf..
i repeatedly say excessive nudity in a mainstream movie lessens the importance of plot & also i dont find it classy 2 see women nude through out the film
a weird weird weird movie...
the wildest fantasy of the director displayed on screen...
what a piece of shit....watch it only if u're looking for sex scenes & nudity all through the movie...
for me watching this movie was the most painful, disturbing, uncomfortable 100 mins of my life.....
566
Gia 1998,  R)
Gia
Angelina jolie's portrayal of Gia carangi seemed real n praiseworthy...
but the characters surrounding her were truly unacceptable....except faye dunaway n jolie the rest of the cast were boring

but if u really like 2 see jolie as a serious performer..i wud recommend this 1.

598
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
fairly interesting.....initially i thought it was gonna be like a forrest gump type movie...but it turned out 2 be different...
glad 2 see brad doing such variety in his career...he's proving out to be a better actor the more i see of him.
but only point that i didnt like was cate blanchett's character in her mid-ages.

but overall a good film.

wow..a real nice story& the wonderful performances make it even better 2 watch it on screen
tom cruise-man certainly he truly was entertaining..now if that role doesnt win an oscar...what else?
renee zellwegger-wow c looked so amazing & beautiful...wish c cud look like that in all her films
cuba gooding jr.-may be his acting was a little more agressive..but i believe that's what his character demanded an emotionally attached man...well deserved oscar....cheers
& finally
regina king-i really cant define any role that i saw her in didnt irritate me....the more i see her,the more irritating she gets...wish c does some good acting...someday

603
Top Gun 1986,  PG)
Top Gun
many of my friends wud say that giving it 5 stars will be a lil overrated.....but i surely cant lie that this movie didnt deserve it.
it kept me entertained throughout the entire movie.it had everything that i expected it to have...some of the exciting charcter names along with a great cast...it sereved some better performances from the actors i've seen

the bond of friendship between anthony edwards & tom cruise, the chemistry between kelly mcgillis & cruise, the cold competition among kilmer & cruise, the super solid tom skerritt...well what else do u need 2 be entertained?

i've seen many tony scott films....but trust me no film is as good as this 1 & believe this to be one of the best performance from him & cruise as well.

the soundtracks & the background score were also groovy, moving & pleasing...cool

& as much as it was a guys film...it was no less romantic in its own place.

finally 1 thing 2 add that i felt after watching this film

"I FEEL THE NEED....THE NEED FOR SPEED"
604

Once again Al Pacino, once again Sidney Lumet...wanna know the best part? Once again it's based on true events.

Al Pacino is great as Frank Serpico the anti-Dirty Harry type cop.His acting is great.Almost believable as the character.

But the movie is so slow,it kills all the fun & instead of entertaining I'd have to say it was rather Boring.

Dog Day Afternoon 1975,  R)
Dog Day Afternoon
And the attica chant made sonny(Pacino) famous.

This is sort of a mother to all the heist/robbery movies made these days.Ofcourse being Al pacino's earlier roles, his acting isnt of that high standards..but still it's SO MUCH FUN just to watch him on screen.

The Devil's Advocate 1997,  R)

The Insider 1999,  R)
The Insider
One thing you can bet about Michael Mann is that he'll give you one of the most popular combos on screen.

In HEAT he brought Pacino & DE niro,in COLLATERAL he brought you Cruise & Foxx,in miami vice there were Colin farrell & Foxx again, more recently you saw Bale & Depp in Public Enemies...this movie is no different...Crowe & Pacino.

Now after the long info,it's here to add that his films try to bring the best of the actors.

The Insider takes you into the details of the tobacco industry Brown & Williamson.Projects point of view from both Pacino & Crowe's characters.Provides a little inside view of politics in media world as well.So overall summarizing the movie, results in saying that while the movie was good, characterization was great, acting even better....but after the extraordinarily long 157 minutes.....

you'd hardly even try to write a good review about it.
614
Insomnia 2002,  R)
Insomnia
Pretty good movie.Christopher Nolan keeps me impressed through his work.Al Pacino is great.

If only they could have kept the mystery element a little longer & not give it away,it could have been a brilliant film.

Filmed in alaska...the film really gives you the perfect scenario & actually makes the story believable.

After watching the movie I realised how much I had missed Hillary swank, hadnt seen her in a long time.

Well written chracters, enough complexity among the characters but not in the plot.May be The original is better, but as I hvnt seen that,I cant be for sure.

after getting dozens of recommendations on this film..i finally decided 2 give it a watch
wasnt very entertaining in my opinion, but was alrite for an typical 80s film.

i agree with my friend Thelma that this movie ideally suggests the 80s style...so iconic & even if i hvnt been a big fan of the 80s films, but still then i hv 2 admit the style & the look of the film was very cool as compared 2 many recent vampire flicks that i've seen.

& i totally love kiefer's hairstyle....i'll get 1 like that asap...lol :p

i had previously seen many vampire films, i.e- blade series, interview with vampire, underworld etc...& although this was intentionally comic n full of corny ideas...i believe this to be much better than tarantino's from dusk till dawn series.

about the actors,well
i had previously seen dianne wiest at oscar functions receiving oscars but never really saw any of her films & after watching it i can say she must be one of the most sweetest women on earth, all the other actors except kiefer n patric were unknown 2 me...but they were really capable 2 keep their onscreen charisma effectively.
jason patric looked way better while he had hair on his head...lol,but seriously he was pretty cool in the role if not excellent
jamie gertz-wow! I was bowled over her beauty....& she played her part nicely as well.
finally Kiefer sutherland-hmm, i previously argued that he hasnt given me 1 good reason 2 praise him, well now he has & i see how my friend sara got a liking for him...he has 2 be the 2nd best vampire, yet the coolest one ever.

so overall a good entertaining watch & if u compare uwe boll's horrible bloodrayne films 2 this one(boll sinks without a trace) :p

You know what the problem with vampire films is?
Each film tries to f**k the other ones with its theories. The conclusion may be drawn as you can never be sure what an actual vampire may be like.(p.s.-like many people I'd also agree VAMPIRES DON'T SHINE)

Back to the film, this has to be the most talked about film I've ever heard,I mean-wherever you see, there's an Edward-Bella or Cullens poster/quiz/poll popping up....guys & girls go crazy about the movie....phew!

I can say I didnt really hate the movie or love it.....well if I consider it as a vampire film....it'd be pretty awful....but instead I will try to look at it as a romantic film focusing on teens.
Certainly the chemistry between Pattinson & Stewart was excellent...this really provided me a reason to watch it & ofcourse there are some other beautiful women who could be also an silly excuse to watch it!

some brilliant locations, good direction, nice set-up....an iconic face off between the protagonist & the antagonist.
well not bad for a teen romantic film....atleast with enough elements to make it a popular one!

one word of advice to Kirsten Stewart-"You look gorgeous, but Could you please look like you're not high the next time onscreen?"

Yeah I agree with corey aka doctordoom's review......you can obviously guess why girls will love the film & guys wont.
I watched it,didnt enjoy very much, but still wanted to have it...why?

well if I speak of the plot it may sound comical, but I totally hated the concept..I only got this one after I checked Sophia bush...then after having several thoughts I decided to watch it anyway..It kinda brought out some lol moments seriously.
not a fan of jesse metcalfe(ouch...someone help him)...Ashanti & Arielle kebbel were IRRITATING..Brittany snow was overacting as too innocent...sophia bush was funny in parts.....but what really made me change my mind were the funny dialogues.

"I used all my mom's estrogen & now she looks like bernie mac"
"we all know what happens when boys get happy"
-Ashanti's character
during a game of basket ball when a player pushes Jesse metcalfe,he complains to the coach,"my nipples hurt"
& some other funny moments..a fun watch

& 1 final word- "Denise, this is for you"

what was all the hype for...frankly I dont think it was a very good film...although at times it was very funny & gave me a few laughs.

No Reservations
Well it's always exciting & entertaining to watch a movie which involves cooking ! This one was no exception either.
The story was a little predictable with the involvement of the romance element.even though it worked partly to provide a good chemistry between zeta jones' character & Eckhart's.
Most impressive thing about it would have to be its setting in the restaurant & the chefs.
speaking of perfomances- even though there were no complexities in this rather simple romantic kitchen drama but still then should mention afew things-
Catherine Zeta-Jones-wow still is enigmatic & portrayed her character quite well but was quite over expressive.

Aaron Eckhart-Whenever you see this guy, he has this charm that somehow helps carrying the film..even with his funny pajamas in this one lol!

Patricia Clarkson-I've been watching most of her performances starting from "The green mile" she's pretty good in whatever character she chooses.

Abigail Breslin-quickly turning a major turnoff for me...I dont think would ever like her as an adult actress...pretty menacing..infact the only bad element for me in the movie...except some very high opera songs played at high volume!

Jim carey isnt a bad actor...he's good when it comes to do normal acting & not be goofy & show his antics.

previously the only film of his I liked was Bruce almighty...& after that this would be my # 2 fav. film starring jim carey...storywise it wasnt a bad film pretty funny at times & often setting uncomfortable situations for the protagonist...well my suggestion woud be,"if you're an optimist go for it."...hopefully will give u some more hope.

It'll prove out to be a good film which leaves you in a certain amount of satisfaction!

First of all thanks Darryl for inspiring me to watch it sooner.

Well honestly the primary reason for getting this film was(without a doubt) Rosamund Pike...but other than that with a cast like Anthony hopkins,Ryan Gosling & David Strathairn , you woudn't wanna miss it.

I've seen a few courtroom dramas & movies involving such scenarios & will admit that they are not my favorite genre of drama.Even though it was a murder mystery, the whole movie rested upon the prosecution process,so much that it made no impact in the end.I've also come to realise a certain thing "when the main material is weak even the best of performances can't revive it into a masterpiece".

Yes the story was stretched too long(I dont know for dramatic effects may be?) & the movie didnt feel like entertaining from any possible way.Yes it had a few twists, very good ones. But the characters are written in such a way that you wouldnt even relate/sympathise with any of them. Also the ending was left hung incomplete. So naturally with so much negativity within the film,it's hard to write a good thing.May be I expected a bit too much, but I definitely didnt get a good show for all the excitement I had before watching it.

I'm really worried about Rosamund's career now.I've seen her playing itsy bitsy roles in some of the not so popular films. It's a matter of choice really...but I reckon if she keeps on playing such roles, may be her acting career could fade away sooner than expected.I wish she could do something noteworthy,so that my friends could recognize her the next time they see her onscreen!

If you enjoyed the previous 3 films in the series....I think you'll be a little disappointed with this one, just like I was...the story was very formulaic, going on with the swing...but it wasnt very exciting or entertaining to watch.
At times it occured to me as if it were just an unfinished film thrown to keep the series running.

but judging it as an action fan you could be on the positive side!

some great fighting scenes..a totally wasted Ryan Reynolds,a crazy insane psychopath(cool role played by Liev schrieber) & in a not so well reprised role, butt flashing hugh jackman are just the highlights of this film.

but there's this awesome movie moment when Gambit intervenes a fight between wolverine & sabretooth jumping from the roof with a rod...very classy!

Just when I thought no movie could ever be compared to Gladiator.....

My first thought before watching this film was how I'm going to survive for the whole 210 minutes & trust me never felt bored by any single moment of it!

From the very beginning(which depicts the birth of Jesus christ) to the very end of the film, the movie was so brilliant!

For a movie of its time & even today I'll always regard it as perhaps the best movie ever made.

watching the film made me a big fan of charlton heston(& the very beautiful Cathy O'Donnell) ...his depiction of the titular character Judah Ben-Hur was excellent.Stephen boyd also served as a perfect friend-turned-enemy of Ben-hur.

also some good supporting characters provided by Jack hawkins,Hugh Griffith & Haya Harareet

The boat scene & the chariot scene were particularly very masterfully directed & no matter how much I write about it,it wouldn't be enough!

What a movie!......I'm so glad I watched this film in my lifetime.....BRAVO William Wyler for making such an epic

If you havent seen it yet...well make sure you watch it just once in your life!

Gandhi
This film reminded me of Slumdog millionaire. Now You'd be thinking slumdog & Gandhi?

well the comparison is purely becuase I believe both movies should have put hindi speaking lines in the script as it would have been more realistic, believable, reasonable & at the same time memorable.

neverthless Ben kingsley delievered a BRILLIANT performance in his debut role....I've seen him play various characters from the Rabbi in Lucky # Slevin to Elegy(& some horrible vampire in the "Uwe boll" film Bloodrayne). But Gandhi would always be the pinnacle of his acting career.

Anybody who knows the importance of Gandhi as a person to India would no doubt admit that It's one movie that every Indian must relate to & certainly the movie never misses its point.Richard Attenborough portrayed each & every incident of Gandhi's life accurately & I believe there's no other film about Gandhi that'll give you so much detail about his life, about british-ruled India, even about the partition of India.

From the Jalianwalabagh Massacare to Dandi march, every single incident that I had read about in my history book was portrayed correctly...which surely surprised me considering Mr.Attenborough is not from India & more importantly a Britishman himself!.

Ian charelson,Martin sheen were great in their characters as well.
Roshan seth,Rohini hattangadi,Anang desai,Alyque padamsee, saeed jaffery& Amrish puri(actors with whom Indian audience is familiar with) are also cast in nice supporting roles.

so indeed a must-see recommendation for Ben kingsley fans, people who enjoy biopics, films with historical events or just a splendid performance!

This is the reason why movies from 70s & 80s remain masterpieces....the chills they give you,the terror they cause could never be created by any film of recent times.

kudos to Spielberg for creating the elemnt of fear without showing the shark for most parts of the film & when it unleashes its power well "you're gonna need a bigger boat"

A classic combo of Scheider & Dreyfuss(even if I havent seen much films of either actor) & contrary to many people who enjoyed Robert shaw's character ,his character really pissed me off...but may be again it's how good you can play the character!

What a film, what a character...I wonder if there would be anyone who wouldn't idolize Harry callahan!

Clint eastwood's character as the cynical, sarcastic, toughie bad ass cop quickly became a cult icon & the inspiration for many films of the same genre!

the thriller concept with a great score truly made it one of the best & iconic movies ever made.

plus some bonus nudity provided for peeps...LOL

But I truly admit I have become an instant fan of the character, the film & no need to tell how many times I've repeated the monologue

Well anyone who has a celebrity crush would fall in love with this movie instantly.I suppose you wont ask who I'm in love with(no I dont mean Julia Roberts if you were thinking so)! Well besides that obvious reason there are also a few more reasons why I loved this film.

First-it's set in England, not a very outstanding setting or anything. But solely because I consider England my second home thanks to my chums Arron & Becks! I'm not a huge fan of romantic-comedies & dont look out for every fresh release on the block. But watching such a sweet movie once in a while provides some relief amongst all the serious movies I've been watching.

The story is sweet, believable from a very highly optimistic view(That's kind of ironic as compared to the realistic movies viewing, isnt it?).The cast is also very well chosen(with the exception of Rhys Ifans)!I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant, infact I despise him greatly.I can still say it was a right choice to cast him for this part.He adds this charming sweet guy image so brilliantly that makes you fall in love with him.In a lighter way you could probably say that it just teases the general idea that English guys are so enigmatically charming & sober that women all over the world fall for them(see I'm making you popular Arron! ;D) .Again it's ironic that despite his reputation Hugh grant was offered to play the character. Julia Roberts is equally suitable for the character of a successful movie-star in the film. She looks so pretty in the movie.Together they look perfect onscreen,it obviously works in favour of the movie.Who doesnt want a great pair in a Rom-Com?

Now speaking of the supporting cast, like I said except Rhys Ifans & Emma Chambers as Grant's sister I think I liked the rest of the characters.Hugh Bonneville's character may be a pun on the general opinion that british people are ignorant towards movies & always they're portrayed a bit slapstick/goofy.Emma Chambers & Rhys Ifans could be described as such characters. Also there's Tim McInnerny as Max & Gina McKee as Bella, perfect as a caring couple & nice supportive friends.Gina Mckee plays a very nice supportive role.So beautifully that I almost forgot Emily Mortimer, one of my favorite women was cast as the "Perfect Girl".Also there's a small cameo by the young Mischa Barton.

Well apart from its romantic moments, mushy moods the movie has its hillarious moments, though not typical british, but mostly situation based. Also the soundtrack consists of some beutiful songs as well.

Ah,I dont know what else to say,I guess I'm just smitten. But I'll surely say one thing having a book store in Notting Hill could be the next best thing!I wont pursuade everyone to watch it,but if you do I think you'll adore it just as much.

I dont know if I'm saying this right but there are a few themes that could be associated with the British films usually. Two of these themes would be revenge & self redemption.

Director Neil Marshal presented no different film tan that of a slasher film. But the interwitten themes are all that make it different from its contemporaries.

Having said that I certainly admit it was similiar to " The Cave". But at the same time a lot better as well. The movie is shot in such a way that it gives you an authentic fear of being locked in a claustrophobic environment. The actors are also well chosen...I guess in such movies the lesser known actors provide a much better sense than the big names. The movie carries it's process thoroughly though sometimes a bit typical but neverthless an effective thriller.Besides the ending is bloody brilliant,a bit typical brit may be but yet!

Speaking of the characters- Natalie Mendoza's character was truly a bitch I dont know if it was her character or her acting....just didnt impress me much & Nora-Jane Noone was overacting. But Shauna MacDonald was truly great.

I read in wikipedia that the film was released just after the London bombings,I'm quite intrigued by the filmmakers' decision to release such a dark movie during that moment & knowing it still did good business...I'd say it was a brave decision that paid off.

Contrary to public opinion I found it quite entertaining actually!

although if you see dangerous liasions & compare both of these well you might agree that it's probably a "scene-by-scene" lift ofcourse with some modern changes.

speaking of characters it was kinda obvious that Ryan phillippe might be playing John malkovich's character & SMG portraying glenn close!
just as other cast members!

considering it as a separate film(which is actually pretty hard)..the plot was pretty interesting & sarah michelle gellar's transformation from everyone's favorite girl "Buffy summers" to the much bitchier sluttier katherine would definitely shock many(just as in my case).

so all I need to do now is to watch dangerous liasions & pass the final verdict!

A much overhyped film.I say it because if you read reviews(good ones) about this film you'll find critics adoring Robert Downey jr.'s acting...calling it fantastic spectacular & such.So obviously I was a bit eager to watch it.But I have to admit it didnt match my expectations.

Yes it gives you a few laughs.BUT none of the actors are that funny as said in reviews.Again it's a dark comedy, mixing elements of mystery, slapstick characters etc...but ah except a few times you wouldnt find much laughter out of it.

However if you consider it as a mystery film first with hints of comic relief, yes that could be the perfect combination.

The Big Lebowski
Cult film,my ass.I have absolutely no reason for going ballistic actually I'm trying to match up with the coens' use of profanity....so please shut the fuck up.

Ok Jeff Bridges' character of "The Dude" impressed me & if you`ask me the definition of cool it'll be no doubt The dude. The ease with which Bridges plays the character is amazing. His dreams are (well) interesting,I bet there must be people who have such fucked-up dreams all the time.

But really there isnt any fucking humour(or lets say I couldnt find any).John Goodman plays such a fucking character that I wished to punch his fucking face whenever he opened his mouth.Steve buscemi really tries to bug u off sometimes but tell you what, next to The dude he was the only character who could provide me a few laughs.Philip seymore huffman is also in a minor role & it was funny enough to see him trying to be funny.

Well they say every film has its own audience...in this case I think I wasnt the right one.

Rescue Dawn
One of the more realistic POW movies that you'd have seen & when you know it's got Christian Bale, you can guess what to expect.

The major fault of the movie as noted in rescuedawnthetruth.com(which director Werner Herzog claims is true!) is it's not all factual....yes it took characters from Dieter Dengler's memoir, but as admitted the events shown in the movie are greatly diversified & the hero of the film becomes someone else(Gene Debruin).I could have appreciated the efforts of the cast members & the director, but after knowing the truth...I doubt even you'd do it.

Christian bale surely worked his ass off for the characterization....ate snakes, lost lots of weight, tried English with a German accent....but I'm sorry,no points for a film built up on a false basement.

There are so many reasons you should really watch the film :-
1.Cate Blanchett
2.The all-star studden cast
3.The costumes & the brilliant sets
4.The plot & the direction
5.Kelly mcdonald & Emily Mortimer(well now that's a personal criteria)

Shekhar kapur did a wondeful job as the director, the film which I thought would be like any other periodic piece in the beginning, was very different from its fellow companions.Well written indeed & amidst the whole fascination, you almost transport into the sixteenth century!

& What a performance by Blanchett....fantastic!

There's everything you'll expect from a film to entertain you during its whole 2 hours.

However if you research more into the lives of Queen Elizabeth & history, the events portrayed in the film, were grossly inaccurate, which one might seem offending, but keeping the facts aside & considering it more of a fictional epic film(which was a little hard to do at first) I dont think you'll be disappointed.

So a definite recommendation,if you're a fan of epic/periodic pieces or Cate Blanchett (or even British Beauties).

Alright I admit, the reason why I wanted to watch it was Rosamund pike. But besides her there's pretty much in the film to watch out for!

I suppose it's probably the most famous story written by Jane Austen.Everyone loves Elizabeth Bennet & I very much agree to it.

Keira knightley was terrific as the lead but Matthew Macfadyen....... c'mon, didnt they find anyone else to portray the role?

But in the end I believe director Joe wright did a good job to portray the England of 19th century in films, which was very admirable!

p.s- I hope my review doesnt sound affected by my inclination towards English women(psssst.....you never heard me say that!)

I would like to mention something here,"If you cant do a good job, better dont do it at all".

The reference is towards Anne Hathaway & her imperfect English Accent. No doubt English people will notice it from the very beginning. While I dont complain the casting of Anne Hathaway as a British Lady, her attempt to take the English accent falls short of perfection & hence remains a big flaw.Ofcourse she is very pretty & thinking of her as an Englishwoman...whoa! THAT's unbelievably fantastic! But When you're playing Jane Austen....you cant expect to skip things just like that!

The movie shows events that reflect in pride & Prejudice(ofcourse it was an inspired piece). So if you like Jane Austen's work, you might enjoy this film.

Otherwise might be pretty boring for the general audience.

Mamma Mia!
I'm not very fond of musicals, because the idea of saying every line through a song irritates me.I know that's not the wisest thing to say but I have my limitations.

Sometimes my curiousity lands me in worst places. In this case I found it was one of the top 20 grossing hits.I was surprised by that feat, asking to myself how could a musical achieve such status...when a movie like west side story failed to do so!Hence that was my only reason to watch it.

Now that I've seen it I must say I've learnt my lesson. While Meryl Streep could be easily considered the best part of the movie, even while jumping on the bed like monkeys. The movie is full of antics, irrespective of which actor or character it is.Something which annoys me greatly.

Also Catherine Baranski & Julie Walters are terribly irritating. My note to Mr.Brosnan thank you very much for your horrible singing, please never ever try to repeat it!

Finally I'm sorry Angie,I wish I could enjoy it as much as you did!

The Devil Wears Prada 2006,  PG-13)
The Devil Wears Prada
This has got to be the best film related to fashion that I enjoyed watching.

The script is brilliantly wriiten, very witful....interesting characters & good direction.

Meryl streep is so good at playing such sinister roles,no wonder she got nominated for an oscar for this role.you may hate the character from her very first appearance, but that's just how wonderful Meryl streep can be!

stanley Tucci...wow,the man never fails to impress! Great character & nice characterization by Tucci!

speaking of Anne Hathaway...well I believe she looked her best in this role...seemed to me that the whole film sailed on brilliant performances by streep,Tucci & Anne.

Emily Blunt plays the cynical Assistant to streep who is just as irritating...looking great neverthless

but overall I'd describe it not just as a romantic-comedy but much more than that, may be an excuse to watch both Streep & Anne Hathaway together!

Gangs of New York
Sometimes it occurs to me that there are some words which you could associate with certain directors....i.e- destructive for Roland Emmerich, thoughtful for Chris Nolan & Iconic for Martin Scorsese. From Raging Bull to Shutter Island, no matter whether you love or hate a movie...you can't deny it's iconic status. The movies are so brilliant in their own way that you cant stop admiring.

Gangs of New York is equally of such iconic stature, from the performance of young Cian McCormack as the young Amsterdam to the portrayal of Priest Vallon by Liam Neeson. From the depiction of revolution in America to the celtic cross in priest's hand everything is.....perfect!

Very rarely do you see such a movie with grand stars with such a great director presenting such a wonderful film.I'm in love with everything related with this movie.I was a bit skeptical about the casting of Cameron diaz...but she wasnt a bad choice for the role.

One of my friends Elvira says that the casting of Dicaprio in the role of Irish Amsterdam Vallon is a huge mistake...well if you judge by accents.....he sounds little like an Irishman....but in the flow of the movie & the brilliant performances I totally forgot to pick flaws.

Also another thing to note for me was the change in roles that the actors would be associated with...I can imagine Daniel Day lewis,Liam neeson,Brendon Gleeson in the nature of their roles(dont blame me it's a coincidence they're all british)...but John C. Reilly,Cameron Diaz,Judy greer & Leonardo Dicaprio truly surprising...but I think they played their parts extremely well...without giving you a chance to complain(not unless you want to).

Another precious thing about it is the score of the movie...if you have the OST....you truly have class....The hands that built America by U2......ah amazing!

Thank you Mr.Scorsese for making Gangs of New York!

True Romance
Man I'm getting too old for this shit or what?

Few years back when I read the story of True Romance....I immediately thought with a cast like that & a story like this it would be a total mindblowing movie. That was before I saw any of Tarantino's films,Guy ritchie's films or any such mixture of action, crime & humour.

But after several repetitions of such kind of films when I finally watched True Romance...I didnt feel all that excited.

I asked myself several times about my dislike for it & I finally figured movies should be seen in their proper chronology.

Because honestly speaking True Romance has everything........a fine cast, great characters, brilliant humour, excellent dialogues, nice background score & a sexy Patricia Arquette. What more could I posssibly ask for in a film.So as someone mentioned here, may be I'm too tired of the Tarantino way(even though it's a Tony scott film).

Neverthless despite my rants & ramblings....I'll still add it as a favorite of mine.Cause my unattachment wont reduce the film's class in anyway.Wish I could enjoy it as expected.

Traffic 2000,  R)
Traffic
Do you remember the last time you saw a man of law with 100% honesty?

That's the first thing I'lll always remember about Traffic.A great film from director Steven Soderbergh whom I previously admired as an entertaining(ocean's) movie maker....little did I know he could make such serious films too.Packed with a solid all-star cast, the movie reflects upon several issues,be it the whole mafia-war for monopoly or even focusing on the addiction of young people with drugs. The movie might prove a little slow for general audience...but if you sit through the whole film,I bet you wont be disappointed. The big names associated with it don't overshadow the plot or any message that Soderbergh wanted to convey. So obviously you've gotta admire the actors for their performances & again the director for successfully being able to bring out suhc performances.

As said,Benicio Del Toro provides yet another brilliant character along with Mike douglas & Don Cheadle.I'm not a big fan of Benjamin Bratt but I'll admit he was quite good in his small cameo as well. The part involving rich spoiled kids getting high was a little irritating but I guess it was necessary to provide a view into how addiction gets sronger each time. The only problem I had with this film was Amy irving who is just irritating, but I guess you won't be seeing much of her character....which was a relief.

A great movie...highly recommended.

I got mixed feelings about this film!

While the picturisation of the story seemed pretty realistic..but I seriously wished to see any actor other than Andrew Garfield to play the role.

Not that I've seen any of his films or anything, but the depiction his character who's always wary about his past & tries to be a new person, seemed a little detached from himself(?)

however there are parts when the look on his face is unmistakable, they force you through what he's going as well.

Good direction...but wish they had chosen a different actor in the lead.

Neverthless a good supporting role by Peter Mullen & watch it ifyou enjoy such movies challenging your ethics.

I'd heard great words about works of shane Meadows & Paddy Considine from a friend, who's a big fan of both & WHAT A FILM IT WAS!

Initially I thought it to be a slasher film or more of a revenge film. But it was really a powerful film that left me without words as the movie ended.

Paddy Considine delievers a performance which seemed scarily realistic & during the flashbacks the abusive members torturing Tony was really disturbing.

Really a good film to watch with superb performances & excellent direction.....kudos to Shane Meadows. Now I'm eager to see This is England!

In my opinion it's probably one of the best british films that I've seen!

The acting was superb which helped to carry off the entire 80-85 minutes without a slight rest!

pretty intense & also a bit of harsh reality in my opinion...but that's what the movie wanted to portray right?

Georgia groome also reminded me of jodie foster in taxi driver.

After I finished watching it I asked myself many questions.

Was the ending proper? Was the judgement pased by the gangster's son correct? Which of the characters I'd support? & many such conflicting questions that challenge the morals.....in some Hindi films I've seen it happening & believe it or not even in news you'd hear about things like this.

But indeed a great movie packed with better perfomances......& yes as you'd expect from British films generally it is pretty strong in aspects of language...but all that made the film seem real!

I'd like to recommend this film to anyone who enjoys movies which combine these kind of crime-elments with social realism!

I dont even remember why I didnt write anything about this movie when I first watched it(it was a long time back)....I believe I was held back by the thought that whether my review would express what I needed to speak about it.

Even now this is sort of a thanks note to a certain friend(YES Becks, Thank you for telling me & thank Bridget jones....lol) for recommending this film.

when I first saw the film I thought may be it's a British version of American History X & if you've seen both, comparisons are inevitable!

but still these two are so different from each other,be it the location, the timeline or setting-wise.

The film is simple in its way of depicting its events & within a short span it delievered a message that the movie left a great impression of its own.

All the characters were played quite nicely by the actors(who I hear are not all professional actors)...keeping that in mind I'd say director Shane meadows did a fantastic job yet again !

without a doubt if I make one of those "movies you need to see before you die" lists..this one is an obvious member of such a list.

I hope that describes how much I was moved by the film.

It's the second time(after Schindler's List) that I've seen Spielberg directing a serious movie. This time based on the terrifying true event of the munich massacare.

I would admit that I might sound partial here for a few reasons....I like the entire filmography of Spielberg(or as much as I've seen),I like Eric bana as an actor,I'd admire Geoffery rush in whatever character he plays...I also enjoy seeing daniel craig as anything separated from the big blockbusters. So what else excuse may I provide for adding this film in my favourites?

The movie is accurate in its depiction of events(as agreed by political figures & pundits)...the acting is realistic, the actors & their characters are damn good.....WHAT more would you look for in a movie to be entertained?

Honestly if you're looking for some seriously good acting you'll find it here...trust me! A final note to Spielberg.....Sex & tragedy dont mix....it really looks horrible!

You know there are several features added to the flixster page these days(thumbs up,thumbs down...etc),I just wish they add the finger here.Because sometimes words are too valuable to waste on such a trashy film.

Roland Emmerich "the master of disaster films" focuses this time on his idea about 2012 doomsday, wow that man is so keen for the destruction of the planet......Al Gore should immediately jail him for that!

The movie is filled with ridiculous characters who never provide a good scene through out....John cusack & Amanda peet have most certainly lost their charms.A bad choice from actors like Danny Glover,Woody Harrelson & Chiwetel ejiofor...the rest of the cast is incredibly annoying(most of all Oliver "sucker" platt).Among the melodramatic & destructive moments of the film director Emmerich tries to pun on paris hilton,Arnie & even 50 cent...but one should really tell him...his jokes dont work!

Now everyone praises the film for its special effects & sound...etc.Well the director can shove all the sfx & cgi in his ass.Allow the same budget to Uwe boll & who knows he might prepare a better film?

Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)
Ah after a long delay, finally I review this movie.I had waited for a long time to watch the film & hence had a certain amount of enthusiasm about it.Although it didnt touch every aspect expected, but it was superb entertainment watching the film.

While initially I considered this a mere vampire film, I'm glad it turned out different. It's NOT one of those regular Vampire films that you'd find these days. It's better. The story was great. Although at times I felt it was a little too stretched. But guess it was done within limits, not overly hypothetical. It travels deep into the vampire myths that some movies might not have focused yet, which is a great advantage for Night watch itself, as it distinguished itself from many of its contemporaries.

As I mentioned it's not just another vampire film packed with blood n teeth, biting n drinking. There were some very interesting parts that were fantastic. Be it the whole shapeshifting phenomenon or the terms used (or even The Gloom idea).

This film was special as it was the first Russian film I watched. It also reminded me of the fantasy stories/folk tales that I heard as a child. So overall it was a good investment!

Also the score is brilliant & the songs played in the film are pretty cool.If you're a fan of such music I recommend the soundtrack. Great!

So how do we say WELL DONE in Russian?

Reasons you should watch this movie for -

Liv Tyler-I'd not mind looking at her even in any Uwe boll film.I'm a bit depressed that she gets wasted in the film.

Stefania Sandrelli-God she'll never look old.

Jeremy Irons-Yes,in a good supporting role.

Apart from these points, some nice cinematography. That's all there is to it.

But if you know Bernard Bertollucci, you know what to expect.

"Voyeurism is a part of human nature".Whoever said that must be a pervert.

Back in my college days,we'd discuss about sharon stone & how far she could go? Well then came the idea that one(more importantly we) has to see films like Basic instinct & Sliver to test how bold she could be? Yeah I know the whole idea sounds rubbish, but we were young then!

So if you have placed one of such stupid bets,go ahead or else dont waste your money.Because storywise there's none, the movie solely tries to live within its idea & its nude scenes.Go ahead if you do wish to watch that, you wont be disappointed.

This was a pleasant surprise.Few years back when I had this film rented along with some other Penelope cruz films, I immediately decided to postpone it...well I'm glad I did,coz I dont think I would have enjoyed it then as much as I did now.

While reading the reviews I noticed many have compared it to similiar Gangster films.I dont disagree with that either. It reminds you of the "Rise & Fall" theme in the gangster films.Particularly 'Scarface' & Goodfellas(It's even funny that Ray Liotta stars in it as well). It was surely more entertaining than both.

Speaking of acting, the cast features well known actors who dont disappoint,I'd like to mention a few who impressed me thoroughly.

Johnny Depp isnt really a stranger to the genre, you've seen playing him Donnie Brasco & more recently in Public Enemies.Blow was certainly better than Donnie Brasco; be it Character-wise or plot-wise.There's Ray Liotta Who plays Johnny's dad,it was really nice to see him in the role after last seeing him in terrible films like 'Revolver' & 'In the name of the king'.There's Cliff Curtis who's quickly become one of my favorite actors, truly transforms himself as the character.Penelope Cruz however is downplayed in the movie,She's generally brilliant in the Spanish Cinema. But they truly spoil her talent in Hollywood. There's Jordi Molla who is pretty well cast in the role, the only problem I have with him is he plays his characters a little kiddish way. Also in a minor role is Franka 'Lola' Potente, who looks as beautiful as ever.Too bad her character dies early in the film. Plus you've Ethan Suplee as well.

However there are also characters which I disliked. Dan Ferro as Cesar Roza was totally unbearable & every bit irritating. Also Rachel Griffiths as Ermine Jung portrayed a character who's too materialistic & selfish.

Also need to mention the soundtrack which is awesome & composed with some of the coolest songs.

So finally one word, Fantastic. If you're a fan of this genre you'll definitely Love Blow(no pun intended LMAO).It might take a few rewatches, but I bet you'll enjoy it.It's worth a watch!

I dont need to add here that it's the "Hollywood" remake of abre los ojos.I'm Just in a mood to blast the people who know how to destroy a perfectly good film by extending it into a remake.

Alrite so as I said,Abre Los ojos might not have impressed me very much, but I'll always admire it for its originality & Vanilla sky made the American Audience look like fools. It was like, as if they watched Abre Los Ojos, didnt understand it & wanted it to simplify it for themselves.

Although many have said Tom Cruise as an actor who's way over his head,I liked him in the few films I had seen....he was brilliant in Jerry Maguire & Top Gun..but certainly success does know how to ruin talent.I agree with the fact that most of the characters he plays are overacted & which makes them ineffective. But Vanilla Sky would be the king of them all....the acting is so fake(I dont mean Cruise only...everyone else is also included),you'd lose interest watching it.

SO I guess if I had seen it before Abre Los Ojos,I might have appreciated it somehow...but after watching the original I dont think anybody would embrace it.I'm disappopinted by Cameron Crowe, who provided me plenty of joy from Jerry maguire, but failed miserably in this.Perhaps they should learn they cant produce miracles every time.

One of the reasons why it's difficult for me to watch woody allen films....more importantly why I avoid relationship-drama films.

They force you in so many ways to evaluate your relationships with people around you(well for me atleast)..hence the reluctance to watch them.but one positive side of that could be may be a lesson for what if..situations.

This movie was no different.....no matter how hard I try it finally comes down to the whole perception thing & honestly speaking I'm a little tired of watching scarlett johansson(I dont complain about any other actors in this movie).

A really thinkful view how people view the different sides of a relationship & how some are just in the relentless pursuit of the "missing component" to make it perfect...no matter how far they have to go!

The beautiful sceneries & the wonderful artwork displayed throughout pleased me..but the narrator..I wish he'd shut up.

I believe it could be used as a lesson,if you take it the right way.

Although I didnt enjoy Bardem's character..but he portrayed it quite wonderfully.......nice change in character after playing the psychopath in No Country For Old Men...impressive actor.

This is sort of a feel good film. All the good reviews I had heard about this were really worth it.Thanks to all who recommended.

Although I'd term it as a feminist film(strongly due to the leading female cast),Pedro Almodovar prepared the perfect movie. It has its tragic moments but at times the scenes are also bloody hillarious. The acting is brilliant from every character,so natural that it almost transports you to the setting of the film,to feel what each character wants to say,to hear their story...marvellous.Additionally the scenery is brilliant, calm peaceful....excellent.

It was a nice watch & now I'm more keen to watch all Almodovar movies.

I remember Japan is known as the Land of rising sun,I guess the title refers to that .

A brilliant film, not just because Spielberg directed it,but because of the content. It Focuses on the life of a British kid(Christian Bale) who's separated from his parents & then survives through the Chinese army's reign in Japan.Bale did a good job portraying his character. He admires bravery, loves planes & the scene where he's singing the welsh hymns standing across the border, that'll truly move you.

Other actors arent really important in the depiction of events,There's John Malkovich who portrays a selfish character & also there's a cameo by Ben Stiller(God knows why?).

Indeed it reflects on how horrifying a war can be & how drastically it transforms someone totally as a person.

The score is brilliant, the direction is magnificent but if only Spielberg could focus on different areas of the war & the atomic bombing rather than foucing on Bale's character all the time...it could have been an unforgettable film.

Still then it's pretty damn brilliant of a film....You really need to watch it in order to see the brilliance.

Best picture of 2009? I doubt it. Ofcourse it's brilliant in its depiction of events & the development, but why dont I feel anything after watching it.

The reason for that may be I've seen too many movies about Iraq war & it doesnt appeal me no matter how good it might be.The direction is excellent & the film isnt bad itself.Although you might feel it gets a little slow at times,it might be just to increase the tense moments arising in the audience's minds. No doubt the acting is good but Jeremy Rennier could have made it a little better.Although that might also be blamed on the character he plays.

So overall it'd be Kathryn Bigelow that I'd have to thank for her brilliant direction....may be a rewatch sometime later could change my harsh reception about it.

Watching this film will give you an idea why people consider Michael Bay's films are stupid.

If you've seen the animated film based on the Transformers TV series you'll agree with me that this was a total rip-off.

In addition where I loved the first film, this one was not only one of the major disappointments, but probably the only movie where I enjoyed nothing & I MEAN NOTHING AT ALL!

They decided to force so many characters(i.e- Robots) in the film that at times it was very difficult to recognize who's who.Characters which seem totally unnecessary, lacked any back-story with them & if you develop so many characters in the film, why not provide them some time to describe their action, existence, motives etc.

But as I said it's yet another typical Michael Bay's explosion bound,non-sense humour filled piece of trash.

So there you go,I have enough reasons to hate the film,do you?

When you think of Sam Mendes, there's only one thing that comes to my mind.DEPRESSION!

No matter which film he makes,it's an important part of it.While performance wise I could say this movie is pretty strong, but it was one of the most difficult films to watch as well.Particularly if you're in their position(DiCaprio or Winslet).Winslet might be considered one of the greatest actresses of modern times, but honestly I'm tired of watching her characters.Probably Titanic was the last film where I genuinely liked her, since then every film you see,she keeps getting naked, cheats on her husband..etc! Why? Couldnt you play a decent character.

Simply because they're so brilliant, it dethrones every possible candidate of your favorite films.Babel consists of four stories from four different parts of the world interlinked somehow! It reminded me of crash at times.but this one is so much better.

I've seen Brad Pitt portraying numerous characters, but I've never seen him playing a role like he did in Babel,I truly admire his character.Speaking more about it will obviously lessen its subject matter & as I've promised me myself....avoid spoilers!

Legends of the Fall
Ah I'm finally writing my long awaited review.God knows how much I had waited to see this film, probably because it came as a "Recommendation with a threat".....so for all those reasons watching this movie was a must,BUT I'm afraid to admit that the outcome(not the film but the overall reaction) was not what I had expected & hence I guess it was not a very good watch.

Technically if we're speaking of the various aspects of the film,it was quite spectacular in those areas. The movie unfolds through three generations,so obviously it has a long story to tell. The cinematography was quite brilliant, the scenes were handled craftfully by the director Edward Zwick. So for all those reasons you might actually say yes it's a pretty fine film.Even the choice of casting Aidan Quinn as Hopkins' son was a good choice, cos physically you'd find the resemblance pretty strong. Also the Indian(Native-American) influence was pretty good feature of the film.

Anyways now the bad parts whilst I admit I'm not a big fan of Zwick,I enjoyed Defiance..but like all of his movies,Legends Of The Fall istoo much bent on the emotions.Too much of heart always turns movies bad for me.You dont have to be sappy to show your emotions all the time. Also like you can call Robert Zemeckis the lord of Disaster movies, same could be said about Zwick & War-Drama themed films.

It'll be probably impossible to say anything about it without revealing details of the characters.Brad Pitt plays this Vagaband type character who goes in & out of everyones life just like that,no matter how many audience praise his character...for me it was simply foolish.Well on one side there he's waiting for everyone to embrace him,the next moment he rejects them...you call that charismatic? Now Aidan Quinn...WOW I've never seen such a desperate character in a long long time....good job Quinn, perhaps next time you can try to irritate me even more.Julia Ormond's charcter has to be the worst thing about the film...she's engaged to one brother, lusts for another brother & finally marries another brother.....Anthony Hopkins must be thinking if only he were a little more younger! Now how much amends could you make to repair the story..none I believe.

So the bottom line is, the movie is watchable for its direction & it's wonderful cinematography,oh & accompanied with a good score as well...but the characters killed the film for me,may be if they were written a little better this could have been in my favorites.Viewers of the film may deduce many a things from their own perception...for me it didnt work who knows, you might see it from a different perspective & enjoy it.

A little apology to my 2 best friends here whose reviews encouraged me to watch the film...more importantly Angie who sent it as a personal recommendation.I'm sorry...I wish I could watch it from your perspective....may be next time a better recommendation.

It came as highly recommended by two of my best friends here.So I thought the film could be a masterpiece of some sort.

while not as entertaining as I was expecting, the story was good & actually the actors did a nice job as well.

But somehow I failed to achieve the essence of the film, may be I thought the beginning was too similiar to the plot of Good Will Hunting.

But neverthless considering it was based on Antwone Fisher's real life events, the movie doesnt fail to sympathise with the lead character.

The best thing about the film is it's direction & I'm not saying it becuse I'm a fan of Denzel Washington. He really focuse on bringing real life events on screen.

Dorian Gray
Ever heard a term called the pleasure of ignorance? If you have then you ,might understand what I'm about to say.

I'm not much of a reader, rather a watcher so obviously I miss the original idea, prospect of the writer & the original material. I had previously heard the story of Dorian Grey, even though not in a very detailed way still that helped me effectively to have a different vision on the story.

Enough of my philosophy there, just one plain thing Oscar Wilde's story of Dorian Grey is much better to hear/read than to watch this interpretation on screen.

This film has some of the most fine women who could have made the film a lot more exciting, there's Maryam d'abo,Rebecca Hall,Caroline goodall & Emilia fox all of whom look so lifeless in the film with the exception of Emilia fox who looks somewhat charming through out her character.

Now speaking of male actors, the lead actor Ben Barnes has always pissed me off for some reason,I dont know why but I think he's one guy I'd never pay to watch in movies. There's colin firth who plays a sinister character, smart acting but dull characterization.

The setting was good, the cinematography was not bad & the costumes & flashy interiors were good too...but still Barnes as the lead actor ruins it all for me.

Wasnt there anyone else available to play the title character? I find his acting incredibly fake & as one of my friends says abt how bad acting is just so "plastic".

Obviously they neednt look best together onscreen, keeping in mind what the story was about, but yet it looked like a terrible choice on the director's part.

The film was slow & BORING,hence early on it kills whatever expectation you might have had from it.

Even more to add here that it got so boring in the end that even a nude shot from the gorgeous mcadams couldnt save it!

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Regarding my rules about watching a film, there's a certain one that says...no movies released before 70s,a bad reason but if the movies are like Ben-Hur,Lawrence of Arabia & now Butch cassidy...I'd just say one thing....it's time to make new rules!

For a movie released in 1969,the movie barely looks like it's 41 years old.The western setting could be considered a contributing aspect on that matter.Speaking of westerns this is also my 3rd favorite western (others include The good, the bad & the ugly and The quick & the dead) .While most of the films around that time feel a little corny, there's little of that in this one.Besides my personal thought ha always been that 70s era was way better than the 80s.

The movie featured one of the best onscreen duos ever,Robert Redford & Paul Newman together, now who wouldnt pay to see them together just once? And guess what, as much as you expect of them, they never fail you.You gotta admire those guys for living up to your expectations. This is a perfect western movie...& after watching it you realise why westerns were not so entertaining before & after as well.

If you've seen Bandidas, starring Penelope cruz & Salma Hayek, you cant stop thinking that somehow it was a homage to Butch Cassidy & the sundance kid.Anyways I admit it's probably the most entertaining movie that I've seen this year so far. It's more comical than typical western action & romance, but neverthless is a perfection in its own league! As usual the lost in translation moments are hillarious & the look on Paul Newman's face inside the bank in Bolivia....PRICELESS!

I also admit I miss Newman,he provided some of the scenes with such charisma that you almost forget it's not Paul Newman you're watching,it's Butch Cassidy. Also the movie is composed with some of the most melodious tracks perfect for the film.Raindrops keep falling is surely the best song I've heard in a while.

one final question.......why dont they make good westerns like this anymore?
1104
Hidalgo 2004,  PG-13)
Hidalgo
What is the first thing that you remember after watching Hidalgo?

Lawrence Of Arabia. But without any offence to Mr.Lean I admit Hidalgo was more entertaining than Lawrence.

Having said that I also admit that Lawrence was a masterpiece of its time & I've permanently stopped watching oscars becuase I felt Peter O' toole was snubbed. It's hard to speak out of Lawrence's influence because even Omar Sharif is there in Hidalgo(needless to say he had played a great role in Lawrence as well).

Now speaking of Hidalgo,a fantastic piece from every approach...obviously minor influences/or say they reminded me of the films include The mummy Series,Jewel of the nile & a bit of Gladiator too.Well Hidalgo is much better from any other movie of its genre.

I salute Viggo mortensen's effort for doing this film & the director for being able to achieve something like that from the actor. No doubt Mortensen's passion as a rider must have given him satisfation riding the brilliant horse(Hidalgo). But to shoot in the middle of the desert with the heat..ah even the thought of it is painful.A tremendous effort!

No matter how much I speak for it,words will never be able to describe how brilliant the movie really is.

You really need to watch it,to believe it.

So finally I can admit I'm too old for this shit!

The end of one of the most popular buddy cop,action-comedy franchises. All of the four films have plenty of action....a lot of good humour,at times it feels kind of repeated & the best thing (although repeated) is they all feature a battered Riggs(Gibson) in a one-on-one combat.

Summarising all four movies in the series, I could deduct these-:

The first one was all about the angry, crazy yet sharp Riggs(after all he was the "Lethal Weapon" with family man Murtaugh creating some laughs throughout. The 2nd was about big explosions,Leo getz & the incredibly sexy Patsy Kensit...the 3rd one was a little boring & in the final installment Riggs isnt the lethal weapon anymore...because it's Jet Li who's the lethal weapon.

Although this one featured the best beginning of the four films(ah how would you miss the "bird man")...I still love the 1st one.....Wish Donner made such movies all through the series.

Dazed and Confused
Dude this movie was such a rollercoaster, one of my most fav teen films.....amongst many I've seen my whole life.

The movie released in 90s,is set in the 80s or 70s(I'm too ecstatic to remember....LOL).What's special about this movie is, it's one of the movies from the 90s, whose focus is not on sex.The movie reminds me so much of my fresher days during my first year at the university, particularly because am now in my final year & would leave my university in a few months. And for all those who think this movie is about a bunch of kids getting stoned, well that's not all.

It portrays the final day of the school for freshmen & simultaneosly their introduction to seniors via hazing(known as ragging here).Although in a matter of speaking it could be compared to Can't hardly wait, since both films focus on the last day of students in school & a lot of partying,it's much better than Can't hardly wait.

There's nothing very extraordinary about this film, but yet it's the nostalgia, the golden memories it brings....if the intention was same from the director, well he's got it!

Additionally the film has a fantastic soundtrack comprising of some of the best 80s songs.Which complements the movie in every possible way.

Pretty in Pink
Sixteen Candles,The Breakfast Club & finally after watching Pretty in Pink....I'm pretty sure I'm in love with Molly Ringwald. She's beautiful & she can act.The way I see it, she became sort of a role model for rebellious teenage girls of that era & probably now too.

Pretty in Pink focused again on the rich vs poor issue & well love across barriers.Ringwald and McCarthy are also a great pair onscreen.James Spader plays a typical asshole yet way better than Judd Nelson would play anyday!

It's a good thing, I didnt start watching Joel Schumacher's films chronologically.Because I'd never have watched any of them after seeing this.

Considered as one of the quitessential & defining movies of the 80s generation,I can't figure out why.The movie tried to show post-graduation problems faced by most teens(or atleast the characters of the film). But the representation was not very well done. The characters are annoying. The choice of actors was wrong. What else is there to call it a good film?

Rob Lowe plays a stupid annoying, character.Judd Nelson is irritating as usual, hated him inThe Breakfast Club, this isnt very different either.People consider Nelson as a method actor, huh? Method acting my ass,he cant act...is just another punk!. Demi Moore plays yet another showoff...truly irritating.Ally sheedy,Andie MacDowell &Emilio Estevez would be the only actors who gave me a little reason to be interested till the end.

Bottomline- Rob Lowe & Judd Nelson overact so much, that I've decided never again to watch a film starring either.Hope I wont miss any starring Molly Ringwald!

If there's anyone I should thank after watching this movie,it should be my friend here Aria...thanks for the review, for I'd have never tried to watch it otherwise.Clearly there's a reason why all Flixster members should at least try to read a review!(oh I dont mean mine)

Well with the pairing of Zooey Deschannel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt,you might take it as a typical romantic comedy(as I did before),but seriously this movie is what it says...IT'S NOT A LOVE STORY!

The acting is so natural that you immediately relate to the characters, the chemistry between the two co-stars is simply charming.I havent really seen such a nicely matched couple onscreen. But as serious as the characters might get,the humour makes it all the more interesting.Zooey Deschannel is so funny at times, that you'd be laughing even when you're not meant to be(LOL I'm referring to the "anal girl").

But ofcourse beyond the laughs, the romance there's a story that most could relate, obviously there would be opinions about who was a better character Tom or Summer. For me it has to be Tom because as a guy I could relate to the agony his character passes through.

overall it was somewhat an experience & a lesson to be learnt. The story is fairly practical, may be a bit too real for someone who just had a break-up,but that shouldnt refrain you from watching the movie.

A must watch recommendation not only for the younger audience..but for the matured ones...who knows you might see your life reflected in it???

Alice in Wonderland
I have never watched a film in 3-D & since I never visit cinema halls I dont think I'll ever watch one.But when movies are like this one,Avatar......I truly miss watching a movie in 3-D!

As said, the special effects are brilliant,so is the acting from every actor in their respective characters.Be it Alan Rickman's hookah-sipping caterpillar or Johnny Depp's mad hatter.Truly with the sudden burst of fantasy films,it gets difficult to separate good from bad.I assure you'd not find a movie so near-perfect in recent years.

Tim Burton's direction & the special effects indeed make it look like a dream.A dark yet wonderful dream with colorful characters which never cease to amaze you for one moment.

It's embarrassing to admit that the only movie version of Alice in Wonderland that I knew previously existed was the '72 Porno Version, but now after I've seen this version,I'm more than happy to consider it as the adaptation of that story. If you haven't seen it yet, you're surely missing one big adventure!

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief 2010,  PG)
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
In plain words it could be described as High School Musical meets Harry Potter minus all the music.

Well ofcourse everyone knows it's a modern adaptation of Clash of the Titans,so there's no mystery about the initial concept of the film at all.I remember watching "Romeo+ Juliet" starring Leonardo Dicaprio & I also remember how much I hated that.In my opinion the classics should be left the way they are.Putting that in a new uniform with a fresh paint to make it more relevant to teens just makes it all the more worse. The film is just as ridiculous as it's original book form must have been.

Speaking of the cast Logan Lerman is grossly irritating as the central character percy jackson (aka perseus?).Brandon T. Jackson's character in tropic thunder was hillarious but here he's just another jackass or rather goat-ass? Speaking of Pierce Brosnan I dont remember him doing anything noteworthy after stepping off as James Bond,so no surprise for his casting. But some of the actors I felt have been miscast-Joe Pantoliano, catherine keener,Rosario Dawson & Sean Bean all could've been better.

You know what could've proved effective? Giving the actors some ancient costumes, language & then see how they do.But I guess the director felt it normal seeing Hades,Zeus & others with cool modern outfits.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 2010,  PG-13)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Why is it that each time you have high expectations from a movie....it turns into a major disappointment.

It is apparent that I was disappointed from the movie...well it has so many reasons or rather shortcomings that I have to hate it.

Everyone knows this is an adapatation of the popular Ubisoft POP games trilogy(or atleast the 1st one). I dont know how many of the viewers here have played the game or even what the gamers think of the adaptation...but if you're an avid lover of the POP trilogy, you'll be most certainly disappointed.

Knowing Jordan Mechner was behind the film's idea as well I thought, may be this could be just like the game, but alas Mechner decided to "take some cool elements from the game & develop them into a totally different story".Needless to say the film totally fucked up the storyline of the game, the characters, the names & even accents!

I wasnt very impressed either by the casting of Gyllenhaal in the title role....for some reason I hate that guy(& how much commitment do you expect from a guy who says he overprepared for the role?).The rest of the cast isnt also very effective in their characterization.

The only thing right about this film, is the look of the palace which looks just like the one in game.

The more I speak of it the more depressing & profane my review will be,so I'll conclude saying that for the viewers who enjoy adventure films...it should be a great movie. But I dont think gamers like me will enjoy the film very much.....mortal kombat was much more faithful & entertainining.Note to bruckheimer........SPILLING MONEY DOESNT PLEASE EVERYONE!

p.s.- There's a review by " alemagico ",which says- "If fans wanted a better film, why they don't make it themselves? ENVY KILLS THEM INSIDE".

Yeah right, Bruckheimer never took fan's opinion before making the movie, may be he should have called me?

A clear example of how bad acting makes entertainment worthless.

Ofcourse Lili Taylor is beautiful but surely she cant act, even though there are some favourites of mine in it(Catherine zeta-jones,Owen Wilson & Liam Neeon) it surely couldn't provide enough.

What could've been a good enjoyable popcorn flick...was spoiled by Lili taylor & her antics-filled acting, not to forget a cheesy plot & terrible special effects.

Charlie Sheen is definitely better in comedic roles as opposed to his action roles. This spoof of Top Gun also spoofs many typical cliches of action movies of that era.But it's so funny,it's rare to see such a spoof in recent years.Lloyd Bridges & Valeria Gollino are also great!

Kick-Ass
I would steal a line from what my friend Darryl said here on his recommendation......KICKASS kicked my ass! Yay!

Very few times would you have witnessed a title which matches its nature. What a bloody brilliant movie! Well obviously if you read my previous reviews on films like 2012,Munich & Gangs of New York & thought that's all I watch & like...you're mistaken.

Kickass is ultraviolent, full of cartoonish comic moments,a little satirical too & finally a lot of ass-kicking! Obviously it helps with the casting of my favorite actors Nicolas Cage & Mark strong & Jason Flemyng in a cameo, along with the beautiful Yancy Butler & Lyndsy Fonseca...but still it delievers what it promises.

If you saw superhero movie & thought kick ass is just like that...you're wrong.....think again! The film is also packed with a brilliant soundtrack, quite appropriate for the subject.

Speaking of Chloë Grace Moretz....she played Tom's sister in 500 days of summer right? Check Kickass for her amazing lightening moves & how lethal hit-girl really is!

Also there's a little caution towards the audience..if you're a big follower of Roger Ebert or dislike films like Small soldiers,Narnia,Harry potter or Robocop-2,okay in plain words if you dislike violence/obscene language performed by children......I'd strongly recommend you to distance from the movie.Hit girl surely kicks some serious ass!
