Summary: An array of social structures respond to vulnerability by attacking.
or as she conveniently summarizes "You took a raped woman, and you killed her".

Self-defense against rape is "man-hating" now. The footage of the relatives of the dead men are an interesting display of anti-logic used to resolve cognitive disonnence. "My father doesn't rape prostitutes, he doesn't even have sperm" GO ON I'M LISTENING.

"Self defense is self-defense no matter how many people you killed".

This will tell you nothing of "the psychology of killers". but it will tell you a lot about victim psychology and people's response to victims.

Fuck.

Recommended.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is fucking amazing. If I didn't know his older self was going to be Bruce Willis, I would be like, "Why is Joseph Gordon-Levitt trying to do an impression of Bruce Willis. He spent time staring at Bruce Wiliis' lips and cheeks, and eye-squintiness. I wonder if Bruce Willis will be acting as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, to make neither of them seem like the other, but both seem like some third middle amalgamated individual. The make the gap A LOT smaller.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt doesn't look like himself.
This is good.
This has all my attention. I was carrying on a conversation, and sorting some movie titles, and both have trailed off completely because this movie has ALL of my attention.

Pretty crummy and melodramatic script. The characters are non-engaging and flat. What was good? The audio, music, sound effects. The scene where he shoots the girl is pretty perfectly effective. But the rest of it is just so juvenile.

It's third party Hunger Games with inmates instead of sexy teens. I really don't like the camera work. They're just filming, and then cutting it into tiny half-second clips, spliced together, so that it's just rapidly flashing bits that you can't really even see. LIKE ALL ACTION FILMS EVER. UGH.

Aww, these people with swears are controversial and edgy. That's always attractive in people older than 8.

Kind of like the original plot material of the poverty-striken vampire surviving as a sex worker. Vampires are usually portrayed as invincibly wealthy from stealing from their victims, which divorces them from the practical challenges and expenses of normal human life.
I love to see an idea like that used in a good movie, though, because this one just isn't. Also in addition to not being good, crap acting, lack of character development, and the fact that the whole plot is narrated rather than acted out (sorry, that's why I was watching a movie, instead of reading a book- for the pictures. If there aren't going to be pictures tell me so I can leave now), the whole plot is moved forward by the "crisis" of possibly being found out to be vampires. In a world where we're expected to believe that one (incredibly straightlaced) person reacts to their exposure, wih the same amount of reaction to finding out that the woman is also a sex worker. Fine, but then in that same world, they make it clear that the stardard view that "vampires are fictional" is the social norm. While at the same time the person who believes vampires are fictional, is then... what? harassing the girl's guardian about her personal life, because a teenager wrote a story about herself as a vampire? But then we're expected to accept the supposed professionalism and credibility of someone who would behave like that, in a professional setting, toward a client. If someone did that they would be reported to their superiors, stripped of their position, and probably also face legal reprocussions and general defacement by the local news outlets.

Also Jonny Lee Miller was in this? I didn't even see him.

Not recommended. Unless you're really like vampires.
