1
Superman III 1983,  PG)
2
Bad Girls 1994,  R)
Bad Girls
I like the idea of the rebellious women in such a male dominated era and the toughness of Madeline Stowe here, it's not a film that holds your interest too well.
3
Mary Poppins 1964,  G)
Mary Poppins
Not flawless by far (perhaps most noteable and known is the Cockney accent by Dick Van Dyke) yet a film everybody knows whether you love it or hate it. A childhood favourite of mine, with a mystical and adventurous story along with some very memorable songs and scenes.

A classic musical!
4
Peeping Tom 1960,  Unrated)
Peeping Tom
"A Misunderstood Masterpiece" is how this film has been described, well it is one of Britain's most controversial films for it's time of course, it is perhaps a little dark and edgy with very dramatic music and atmosphere, however, it would seem strange to call a film like this controversial in today's standards.

Watchable, but expectations were set a little high.
5
Hallo Panda 2006,  Unrated)
Hallo Panda
A completely daft concept and yet this short film somehow works. I think the lead character makes this film and the comparison to the well known film gives an added comical touch.

A watchable, quirky find.
6
Police Academy 2 - Their First Assignment 1985,  PG-13)
Police Academy 2 - Their First Assignment
Always a comical watch and one of the best American comedy film series from the 80's. Memorable scenes and a good bunch of characters.
7
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo 2005,  R)
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo
This is not quite Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigalo, as most of the fun storyline happened in the first film, a couple of funny moments pop up, but not a great sequel.
8
Down and Out in Beverly Hills 1986,  R)
Down and Out in Beverly Hills
A comical scenarios, with a fun harmless feel to it, an enjoyable feel good movie
9
Bee Movie 2007,  PG)
Bee Movie
One of the best Feature length Cartoons in the last few years. It will inevitably be compared to the likes of ?Antz? and ?A Bug?s Life?, but in my opinion, it has a much better storyline to it.

Watch out for the guest appearances, which adults may find comical.

Child or Adult ? A very enjoyable movie.
10
School for Scoundrels 2006,  PG-13)
School for Scoundrels
Yep, I just can't get enough of Billy-Bob. The story was the completely reverse of what I thought it was going to be, which turned out to be a funnier concept.

Billy-Bob does sarcastically irritating exceptionally well.

The film kind of reminded me of Anger Management , but with more of a twist.
11
Once 2007,  R)
Once
It really helps with this film, if you are passionate about music and singer songwriters to apprecieate the depth of feeling that went into making this film.

The brilliantly talented stars of the film are musicians turned Actors, but did equally as well in their natural performances throughout the film.

The friendship connection here is electrical and the voices and instruments together, make for a great movie soundtrack (I know I've bought Soundtrack and DVD since watching this).

What's probably perfection about this piece is the pure simplicity of the storyline, which highlights the interaction between the cast members.

So impressed with this film, this is one I will be watching over and over and a day hasn't gone by since, that I haven't listed to Falling Slowly.
12
My Super Ex-Girlfriend 2006,  PG-13)
My Super Ex-Girlfriend
Having very low expectations of this film, I was satisfied that it turned into a watchable no-brainer of a movie, with a few comical moments.

An easy Sunday afternoon viewing with some funny moments which mostly come from Luke Wilson's comedy sidekick Rainn Wilson
13
The Lovely Bones 2009,  PG-13)
The Lovely Bones
What started out as interesting case of Murder, uniquely told through the eyes of the dead victim, soon evolved into a creatively interpretated tale of guiding the way to her killer, whilst waiting to make it to heaven. This film shows all that is dark about the mystery, but it's contradicted by it's light and warmth of a better place.

A strangely enjoyable film, which was dragged out a little in parts particularly toward the end.
14
Shutter Island 2010,  R)
Shutter Island
A much anticipated film for and much better than many gave it credit for. Another Scorsese/Dicaprio collaboration giving a new take on the Asylum style Thrillers.

Whilst I did manage to guess the outcome half way through the film, it still manage to highly entertain me and still add to parts of the story I hadn't predicted.

Whilst all the elements are set up natually for a creepy Horror movie, giving you reason to expect suspenseful, jumpy moments, the focus here is much more aimed at a thought provoking probe into sanity/insanity.

An instant favourite for me.
15
Conviction 2010,  R)
Conviction
An intesting true story of a wrongful conviction and a fight for freedom. A good solid performance from Sam Rockwell and a small yet impressive role from Juliette Lewis.

This film is an interesting Drama based on facts, but like many true stories is quite flat and one dimensional at times.
16
Robots 2005,  PG)
Robots
There is a charming start to this movie that captures you from the off, admittedly, the start is better than the rest of the film, but don't let that put you off, despite it's predictability, Robots is an entertaining animation feature.
17
Jackass - The Movie 2002,  R)
Jackass - The Movie
Like most of the Jackass stunts, there is a huge mixed bag of the ones you love, the ones you have to forward through and the ones that you can just shake your head at in wonderment of how they could have possibly thought up some of these stunts.
18
Murder by Numbers 2002,  R)
Murder by Numbers
I often wonder why this is a much loved film of mine, it's certainly not one of the best murder tales nor is it the most suspenseful of Thrillers, but I feel the reason lies in the forensic analysis and planning of a perfect murder, alongside the battle of intelligences and ego.

This is a film I've watched countless times and never grow old of Ryan Gosling's smug performance.
19
Martyrs 2008,  R)
Martyrs
Well this certainly is an original piece and opens as quite a blood bath of a Horror. Well acted and not knowing quite which direction it is going to take you in, this disturbing film (definitely not for everyone) is possibly one of the sickest films that I have seen. Perhaps because it has a fairly realistic feel to it and the thought of this happening in real life in incomprehendable.

It's not gonna play on your mind, it's not gonna make you jump, but it's compelling viewing and not what you're expecting.
20
Straightheads (Closure) 2007,  R)
Straightheads (Closure)
This film starts well and Danny Dyer does tend to play Danny Dyer in most of his films, it's the pairing with Gillian Anderson that makes this one a little different. Good plot to the story, violent and brutal - following the craze of vigilante movies over the last few years. The revenge part, though slightly disappoints, is predictable and a bit of an anti-climax, I would have liked to have seen a few twists in this, but it is a watchable film.
21
The Tortured 2010,  Unrated)
The Tortured
Compared to films such as "Saw" and "Hostel" as it is, this one is a hard film to judge. The acting from the off wasn't great and the immediate reaction here is that it's a film with pretty people in it. As the story unfolds, it really questions all parents out there, what would they do in this situation and where would you draw the line?

Graphic in it's torture, it's not a film for everyone, the torture itself is pretty realistic.

Like the twist though - didn't see it coming.
22
Que la Bęte Meure (This Man Must Die) (Killer!) 1969,  PG)
Que la Bęte Meure (This Man Must Die) (Killer!)
After several attempts I finally managed to complete this film, I like the plot of this film very much, but it really drags in the middle of this movie, making it feel like a long watch.
23
The Killing Room 2008,  R)
The Killing Room
The Killing Room isn't an original idea, it's one of those phase Horror/Thriller themes replicated in many other films.

To give it credit, the acting isn't too bad, but it is painfully slow moving with a bit of a dampner of an ending.
24
Rovdyr (Backwoods) 2008,  Unrated)
Rovdyr (Backwoods)
[Called Manhunt in the UK]

It's a cross between The Wrong Turn and The Texas Chainsaw Masacre, but better acted through the most part.

A watchable film, predictable as many of these films are, but one of the better slasher movies.
25
Nick of Time 1995,  R)
Nick of Time
A very average movie, a political conspiracy Thriller, with a corny plot. No Johnny Depp stamp on this one and not one he'll be remembered for, watchable, but very forgettable
26
Chapter 27 2006,  R)
Chapter 27
Not exactly what I expected of this film, of course it represents the facts along with some assumptions no doubt, of the events leading up to the assassination of John Lennon and Jared Leto did play a very visually transformed character, along with (I'm sure) a very good interpretation of the man who became famous of the crime, however...this film was like watching paint dry, I am a Lennon fan (hence my original interest in the film)but it's very dull and so is the character and his tedious ramblings. The only Saving Grace is that the film length is quite short for a full length feature.
27
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction - a true work of art!

Tarantino's early films were very much a huge influence on me during the 90's, I was the right age and in the right era to fully appreciate it's content and for the first time I appreciated what happened behind the camera as well as in front of it.

A mixed order of events, unconventional storytelling, a full star cast, intertwining storylines, endless memorable quotes and songs that whenever you hear them you relate them straight back to the scene in the film.

John Travolta and Samuel Jackson at their best. Pulp Fiction is a Cult Classic that remains timeless and I'm sure it will be classed as that for a long time to come.
28
Payback 1999,  R)
Payback
One of my old favourites, which is unfortunately dating. Took a little while to warm up, but the sneaky tactics of the man who has nothing to lose, makes for an intersesting revenge plot, certainly one of Gibson's better films.
29
Silk 2007,  R)
Silk
I've no idea what compelled me to watch this film, either before watching or during and whilst I wouldn't be able to explain the slow plotted story to anyone else, I have to admit that there is something about Michael Pitt that is addictive to watch and perhaps that is what made me stay with this film and strangely I found it quite enjoyable.
30
Soul Survivors 2001,  R)
Soul Survivors
A teen Horror which was not particualarly well acted, could have been a made for tv Horror had it not had the Casey Affleck name associated with it. The ending was fairly decent and the whole thing was watchable, but forgetable too.
31
Big Nothing 2006,  R)
Big Nothing
This film has been compared to Fargo and if you're a fan of Fargo, I agree with what has been said and that this film will probably appeal to your humour.

A likeable Independent black comedy, which I feel could really grow on you with each viewing.

Schwimmer and Pegg team up to make a good pairing here and the forever growing problems that occur throughout the story are certainly worth raising a chuckle for.
32
Shrek the Third 2007,  PG)
Shrek the Third
Whilst this sequel is worth watching as part of the series (and not altogether bad), it's certainly my least favourite of the Shrek films.

Still an enjoyable film with entertainment value.
33
Gothika 2003,  R)
Gothika
A film that isn't highly rated by most, but remains to be one of my favourites and most re-watched films that I own, possibly because it ticks a lot of boxes for me, such as the question of sanity, the setting of a psychiatric hospital, a supernatural element, along with a murder mystery.

Gothika has the dark creepy atmosphere, which is maintained throughout the film and a storyline which urges you to feel the frustration of the main characters, played by Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz.

Admittedly it has it?s clichéd moments and it?s not without predictability, but it?s certainly worth watching (in my opinion) if you enjoy supernatural Thrillers.

'Behind Blue Eyes' became one of my favourite songs after watching this film.
34
Teeth 2007,  R)
Teeth
I know! Why bother?

I knew it was going to be bad, but when I saw it on tv I had to know how the story worked, my curiosity got the better of me and of course it was exactly as I'd expected; a ridiculously plotted, so bad it's laughable kind of teen movie.
35
Untraceable 2008,  R)
Untraceable
Perhaps not quite as impressive on the second viewing of this film, due to the high number of films created around similar scenarios, the online killer has perhaps struck far too many times. Having said that this was slightly more Thriller than Horror and Diane Lane was a likeable lead, plus there was more of a believable background story than most of this genre.
36
Charles Manson Superstar 1989,  Unrated)
Charles Manson Superstar
This insightful Documentary isn't quite what's expected, whilst we all know the name that is connected to some rather horific murders, the full interview explores Manson, as a person, a manipulator, a musician, from how we knew of him to what he has become up to the date of this interview.

Manson is an annimated talker, who shares his philosophies and often answers questions with questions.

Oddly enough some of Manson's views and thoughts will have you thinking things through and it's clear to see why he became a powerful leader to his followers and was often called a brain washer.

Interesting viewing.
37
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 1953,  Unrated)
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
An enjoyable mix of best friends who want very opposite things from potential husbands. For me, Jane Russell stole the spotlight in this film, whilst Marilyn was much more over the top.

As a Musical it's very forgettable, but otherwise it made for easy watching.
38
The Business 2004,  R)
The Business
One of Danny Dyer's better films and certainly Nick Love's best.

It's a harsh lesson to the quick rise and fall of an underworld lifestyle, perhaps glamourised a little too much, but a pretty good watch all the same.

There are some great characters created here, in typical Brit crime abroad fashion.
39
Session 9 2001,  R)
Session 9
Session 9 has a good story in theory, in parts it's quite gritty and in others it comes across very amateur.

I was hoping for a big shock ending, but found it a little too anti-climatic.

When it came to the tapes, I wasn't sure if the voices were slightly disturbing or a little too over the top.

All in all the film is a bit messy and not one I would recommend.
40
Paul 2011,  R)
Paul
We're going back to Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's roots here with the Comic/Sci-fi influenced characters (Spaced tv series).

Whilst there are some funny moments and "Paul" himself is a great characteer, I can't help comparing to their hit films "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz". There's almost an element of this film, I feel may have worked a little better as a Brit film to accomodate the British Humour.

Certainly worth a watch, but could these guys have hit the peak and unable to keep up the same standard as previous?
41
The Goonies 1985,  PG)
The Goonies
I suddenly realised I'd never watched this film, had only seen parts through clips.

Not usually my taste in film, it's what I would call a "boys film" yet I liked the characters and it made for easy watching.
42
D.A.R.Y.L. 1985,  PG)
43
Transsiberian 2008,  R)
Transsiberian
A slow moving Thriller, with perhaps a fairly believable storyline, in that it's not over the top, like a lot of Action films or too horific in a backpacking/travelling Horror type way.

Emily Mortimer played a good role as did Ben Kingsley as usual.

A watchable film.
44
The Haunting in Connecticut 2009,  PG-13)
The Haunting in Connecticut
I was expecting more of a ghost story than one of Demonic possession and whilst this film had moments of unexpected gore, it didn't reach me as anything other than average.
45
The Rite 2011,  PG-13)
The Rite
If you're a jumpy kind of person, then you'll find a handful of jumpy moments if you watch it in the cinema. Characters were good, the acting was good, the mood of the film was good, but somehow the storyline was a little too predictable and became a little like every other exorcism film, I guess the difference being that this is supposed to be based on a true story.
46
Hot Fuzz 2006,  R)
Hot Fuzz
A cleverly crafted, smart comedy with an un-splittable comedy partnership between Pegg and Frost.

Smoothly mimicking it's way through cliched Dramas and stereotypical views of the countryside, along with a borrowed touch of Action and an all star British cast, this comedy gem is a true unique touch to British comedy and is a great watch time and time again.

It doesn't get better than this for Pegg and Frost.
47
The Butterfly Effect 2004,  R)
The Butterfly Effect
This 'what if' style film is fairly unique is it's storytelling, with fairly serious moments throughout. It's time travel less the sci-fi element and thought provoking in it's changes.

Possibly the only Ashton Kutcher film that I would consider rating highly

This is my first viewing of the happier ending, I hadn't realised there were two!
48
Red Eye 2005,  PG-13)
Red Eye
An ok Thriller, with a better than expected performance from Rachel McAdams and a less than worthy performances from Cillian Murphy.

Enjoyable and easy watching, but also easily forgettable.
49
Yogi Bear 2010,  PG)
Yogi Bear
Yogi Bear is a fun film for all the family, a mixed human with CGI characters in an amusing adventure that is a watchable treat.
50
Barton Fink 1991,  R)
Barton Fink
I feel like I have watched the full movie, but didn't actually get it. Quite truthfully it bored me throughout and whilst there were a few enjoyable dark moments, I've obviously missed something that so many love about this film.
51
Double Impact 1991,  R)
Double Impact
Despite Martial Arts films and a few of JCVD's films being guilty pleasures of mine, this one is definitely not. The twin thing has been done many times previous to this and whlst most JCVD films have a similar kind of theme, revenge over somebody close etc, this one lacked in anything new Martial Arts-wise, a little too much show boating instead of skill.
52
The Wicker Man 2006,  PG-13)
The Wicker Man
An updated Hollywood remake of the British Classic film. Whilst it follows in line with the original storyline, some amendments have been made to keep it up to date. The ending was possibly more of an impact in this version, again changing with the times and it had been made just a tad more violent.

I probably enjoyed this version slightly more, but it's still only a watchable, take or leave it type of film.
53
Baise-Moi 2000,  Unrated)
Baise-Moi
Strange to say, that this story in plot is quite like that of Thelma & Louise, it's very explicit nature though gives it a very controversial edge.

The acting is pretty good and in some ways, this film could stand easily on it's own without the controvsial sexually explicit scenes and fairly extreme violence.

In fairness this film won't be for everyone! Is it art? Is it porn? Many will not be willing to watch it to find out, many will want to watch it for that reason.
.
54
Joy Ride 2001,  R)
Joy Ride
For me, this was one of the better teen Horrors, with lots of suspense, corny - Yes! Cliched - Yes, but definitely more watchable than most.

A guilty pleasure for me.
55
Chungking Express 1994,  PG-13)
Chungking Express
This wasn't an instant hit with me, it plodded along slowly and seemed to have little structure in storyline, however it does begin to grow on you as the characters develop and the plot thickens. The photography style also gives the film a very modern look.
56
Banlieue 13 - Ultimatum (District 13: Ultimatum) 2009,  R)
Banlieue 13 - Ultimatum (District 13: Ultimatum)
The talented fighting duo return for a fast moving sequel, whilst the first is hard to beat and isbetter because it's an introduction to their skills, this film is a worthy follow up, with great choregraphy, the right amount of humour and just in general an enjoyable film
57
A Short Film About Killing 1987,  Unrated)
A Short Film About Killing
From a slow starting film to a realisticly, disturbing, impact of a story. This film is created with the intention to demand your attention. It's lack of explation or motive adds to the authentic feeling, it could almost be a fly on the wall documentary.
58
London to Brighton 2006,  R)
London to Brighton
Exceptional!!! Without doubt one of the best films that I have watched in a long time. A gritty, true to life storyline with very natural performances, particularly from the two main characters. This film held me from the get go and never failed to grab my attention throughout. Quite a frightening reality, which makes it a sensational Drama.

This is a film that should be on everyone's "must see" list (or at the very least every Brit's "must see" list).
59
Duplicity 2009,  PG-13)
Duplicity
This film has it's good and bad points. The plot, twist and some of the dialogue is enjoyable, along with the whole battle of trust. The film did feel dragged out though to the point that by the time the twist reveals, it doesn't quite make the impact it should do.

It is typically "Hollywood" and typically Julia Roberts.
60
See No Evil 2006,  R)
See No Evil
This could actually be a contender for the worst Slasher film ever made. It ticks all the cliche boxes and adds a Wrestler into the mix.
61
The 40 Year Old Virgin 2005,  R)
The 40 Year Old Virgin
For me this was better second time around, with a great comedy cast, who bounce off eachother.

The scenario paints a humourous picture of an almost frustrating build up. The ending scene tops the film off nicely.

One of my favourite comedies of the past few years.
62
Sweeney Todd 2005,  Unrated)
Sweeney Todd
An interesting version of the Classic tale, which has variations to it's later Musical adaption. Ray Winstone played the role well and gave authentic touch of London to the brutal Barber, a great role also, played by Essie Davis as Mrs. Lovett.

The visually dark look of the film created the old Victorian London scene well. This is a really good dramatised version, which varies lots from the bigger, well known movie with Johnny Depp
63
Basic 2003,  R)
Basic
Full of twists and turns, but none of them particularly exciting, it's almost a film that tries too hard, the filming, I felt was a little too dark, visually speaking. Watchable, but easily forgettable.
64
Gia 1998,  R)
Gia
Not a story I expected to find fascinating and yet this true story of Gia, the first Super Model, a diva, drug addict and true wild child made for an interesting tale. A short life, that covered so much.

Also one of Angelina Jolie's earlier films, which is refreshing because it's back when she wasn't such a diva herself and a much more natural fiesty Actress.
65
The Man 2005,  PG-13)
The Man
I hadn't had great expectations for this film but was pleasantly surprised by some of it's hilarious content. Eugine Levy provides non stop laughter and the relationship between him and Samuel L Jackson throughout the film, reminded me much of the film "Midnight Run"
66
On the Town 1949,  Unrated)
On the Town
I have to confess a secrt love for Gene Kelly, the man is a fascinating dancer with a style of his own. This fun 40's musical is typically corny, extremely predictable and the songs (bar one or two) are easily forgettable and yet there is something here that catches this era of musicals in a fun, easy watching way, that brings the stage to the screen.
67
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) 1990,  R)
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder)
What an unlucky couple!! Basically the same plot as the first, but using an Aeroplane instead of a building.

What is it about sequels that I cannot resist, even when I didn't particularly enjoy the first? A weird obsession of mine!
68
Thirteen 2002,  R)
Thirteen
A Teen movie with a difference, peer pressure and the desire to be popular is demonstrated to great effect in this story and is a tale aimed at all, not just teens or parents, even more interesting was the ability to relate to the teen characters dispite the age gap I hold.

This was quite naturally acted and the escalation of events were told well, holding up a mirror to teens of any era.
69
Iron Man 2 2010,  PG-13)
Iron Man 2
A decent sequel with lots of Action, high tech graphics and a new set of enjoyable characters.
70
Notes on a Scandal 2006,  R)
Notes on a Scandal
Wonderful performances all around, with an outstanding and eerie performance from Judy Dench.

This film is cleverly put together to contain a very controversial subject and yet the attention is drawn far more to the sub-topic of the relationship between Dench and Blanchett's characters.

Left me with a feeling of wanting to shake off the eerie, creepy feel.
71
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring 2003,  R)
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
One I watched in several sittings, which means I probably lost a little of the continuity throughout.

This film could almost qualify as a silent movie, with the focus on the visual impact of the setting, characters actions and the spiritual training and then through the changing of seasons and characters.

An enjoyable film, but can't quite put my finger on why!
72
Deception 2008,  R)
Deception
Deception was a no expectations held sort of film for me and yet it made a surprisingly good watch.

Not entirely original, certainly predictable in a lot of parts, but easy watching. An entertaining thriller.
73
Witness 1985,  R)
Witness
A murder inquiry turned forbidden love story, in this slightly typical Harrison Ford movie, but a watchable one all the same.
74
Mirrors 2008,  R)
Mirrors
A fairly original storyline (albeit a remake), although there are plenty of cliche moments, the film iself is slightly drawn out, but some of the creepy bits do play on your mind. A watchable film, but lacked a little scare factor that could so easily have been added, enjoyed the less predictable type of ending.
75
The Fortune Cookie 1966,  Unrated)
The Fortune Cookie
A comical caper from Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau, some great lines throughout, easy watching, a good oldie.
76
Shattered (Butterfly on a Wheel) 2007,  R)
Shattered (Butterfly on a Wheel)
A mind controlling Thriller, with an enjoyable role played by Pierce Brosnan. A gripping Thriller with an interesting twist.
77
Carry on Girls 1973,  R)
Carry on Girls
With saucy cheeky humour Carry on Girls is just an easy watching visual comedy with all the familiar characters and of course part of British Comedy history.
78
Edward Scissorhands 1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton's imagination works overtime when he creates a boy with Scissors as hands. Burton's message is clear from the beginning, comformity is boring in this "Stepford Wives meets Frankenstein's Monster" tale.

Everything a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration is expected to be, a dark fairytale type plot with characters crossing into light and dark worlds.
79
Holiday on the Buses 1974,  Unrated)
Holiday on the Buses
Good old British Comedy which is easy watching, comical and full of great characters.
80
Scum 1979,  R)
Scum
A film I've always meant to waatch, but only just got around to seeing it.

It's the 70's and gritty brutal life inside a English Borstal for boys urges it's prisioners to compete for survival of the fittest. A harsh reality reflecting the violence, rape, racial segregation etc etc and was no doubt controversial but very honest for it's time.

This had to be the role that gave Ray Winstone his big break and made him into a British (at least) household name.
81
Things We Lost in the Fire 2007,  R)
Things We Lost in the Fire
An emotional, powerful story of grief, addiction and love. Excellent performances from Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro, perhaps both their best roles to date.

With a very realistic viewpoint this film is told and it is a Drama that really pulls you in and makes you care about the outcome, above all else it's honest!
82
Frequency 2000,  PG-13)
Frequency
A film I love to watch over and over, a time travel film with something of a different portal, reuniting Father and Son, changing the course of events of not only the family, but of a Serial Killer case.

The isn't flasless, but it's an enjoyable story and different story for this type of theem.
83
The Football Factory 2004,  R)
The Football Factory
If I?m honest (and this will sound like I am stating the obvious here) Football hooliganism is very much all this film is about. It offers no moral to the story, like many of the films in this genre, but a very realistic view of what goes on behind the scenes of the game.

We?re used to seeing Danny Dyer in films containing violence and paired up again with Director Nick Love, this film had the potential to be the film of all Football Hooligan films to me. Now I know I'm a Woman and not quite in my teens any more, but anyone who knows me, knows that I prefer lad movies and don't shy away from the violent ones, it was a watchable film, but didn't haven't anything great about it.
84
The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
One of the best and most talked about twists in cinema history. With an all star cast, the film holds you as the investigation unfolds.

Del Toro seems almost unrecognisable in this earlier role, partly due to the character, but partly how he has changed too.

Great characters, the heist itself wasn't particularly fascinating, but that's where the main focus lies, in all of the distractions.

Zodiac 2007,  R)
Zodiac
Zociac isn't the most interesting of Serial Killer films, but of course it is based on true events and without ever clearing up for sure who the Zodiac actually was, the invfestigation is concentrated on and of course very drawn out as a result.

Still a good watch for those of you who like to follow true crime investiagtions.
86
Touching the Void 2003,  R)
Touching the Void
An incredible story depicted in this spectacular documentary and whatever your views on this adrenalin seeking mission are, nothing can take away the shear guts and determination for survival in the conditions faced.

The dilema in this true life story of course presents at the point of 'Would you have cut the rope?' Truth be told, I guess none of us know that for sure, but what I was impressed with was Simon's honesty in sharing his true thoughts of that time.

A truly incredible tale and the special features are certainly worth a look.
87
The Brave One 2007,  R)
The Brave One
An emtionally charged, vigilante killer with a feminine touch, a good role for Jodie Foster, but yet another solid performance for the ever underrated Terrance Howard.

Fairly belieable, slowly paced, almost comes across as a dark superhero film at times because of the narration.
88
Demolition Man 1993,  R)
Demolition Man
I loved this film when I was younger and have just watched it again. I love Wesley Snipes in this this as Simon Phoenix. It's very much the genre I was in to at that time
89
Kick-Ass 2010,  R)
Kick-Ass
Everything a Superhero film needs, but flipped on it's head a little and everything a graphic novel provides, graphic slick violence.

Kick Ass has only problem for me and that is it took a while to warm up properly, which to me, felt like it didn't live up to it's praise, but once it starts to get moving, it is a comical film with a good plot and interesting characters. Hit Girl was probably the most impressive here and provided a lot of the interesting Action.

A fun, alternative teen, easy watching movie with some interesting extras on the special features.
90
Little Fish 2005,  R)
Little Fish
A very gritty Australian film, with of plenty of natural performers. Slow moving at times, but a story that was kind of unavoidable, in your face and was told with a lot of reality.
91
Tightrope 1984,  R)
Tightrope
Very slow moving, a sort of dark, seediness to it, watchable, but forgettable.
92
Saw (short film) 2003,  Unrated)
Saw (short film)
The short film where the idea for the franchise began. Whilst it's not the exact story of the first Saw film, it concentrates on the motive for the games that have become popular and entertaining through it's gory series
93
Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade 1993,  R)
Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade
I had expected this version to be much more amateur in it's basic state and yet the acting and storyline to that end point, was just as good as that in the feature length film, with both Billy Bob and JT Walsh giving great performances.
94
Ratcatcher 1998,  Unrated)
Ratcatcher
This is a film that has always been highly recommended to me and whilst I believe this to be a film that has portrayed a gritty Drama, with a realistic setting and very natural performances, I seemed to have missed the point to the film. the storyline to me failed to deliver a means to an end, which is such a shame because it's of great quality.
95
Little Fockers 2010,  PG-13)
Little Fockers
Little Fockers is not without it's funny moments, but they are far and few between. It could be that the third installment was one too many and the whole relationship between Greg and Jack has been milked for all it can be.
96
Role Models 2008,  R)
Role Models
Not a side splitting comedy by any means, but the scenario raises a few smiles and the kids make it
97
The Odd Couple 1968,  G)
The Odd Couple
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau make a great comedy pairing who in this film drive each other crazy. The comedy capers between the pair make this a timeless classic and a great oldie.
98
Notting Hill 1999,  PG-13)
Notting Hill
Whilst this is replayed on tv over and over, this is one o fthe more bearable Rom Coms for me. A completely unlikely scenario, but it's light, comical and easy watching.
99
Conspiracy Theory 1997,  R)
Conspiracy Theory
Whilst Mel Gibson's performance is ridiculously over the top, the storyline is of interest as a paranoia/conspiracy film.

In real terms, the storyline seems completely far fetched, but then aren't most conpiracies?

Friday the 13th 2009,  R)
Friday the 13th
Truly one of the worst Horror remakes ever, avoid at all costs. It ticks all the boxes of a modern day slasher, without anything different to offer. Remaking a Classic 80's Horror film, I feel, just needs an uptodate makeover, instead the mask is pretty much the only thing that is the same.
101
The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations 2009,  R)
The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations
More of an installment than a sequel as the same method of time travel applies, but to a new person.

It's far from flawless in acting and parts of the storyline, but it does appeal to my interest in Serial Killers, combine that with time travel and it made for enjoyable viewing.
102
Look Who's Talking 1989,  PG-13)
Look Who's Talking
Good fun and easy watching, Kirsty Alley and John Travolta pair up in this family comedy with a comical voiceover from Bruce Willis - A feel good film.
103
Look Who's Talking, Too 1990,  PG-13)
Look Who's Talking, Too
Not quite as entertaining as the first, but watchable all the same, with Roseanne Barr joining the cast voicing the new addition to the family.
104
Kung Fu Panda 2008,  PG)
Kung Fu Panda
A rewatch in time for the release of the sequel. Kung Fu Panda is highly philosophical in it's teachings, there is such beauuty in it's animation with an authentic setting of Asian influences. Researched well, it encompasses many qualities of Kung fu movies and it delivers a great underdog story.
105
Avanti! 1972,  R)
Avanti!
Avanti! is the first Jack Lemmon film that I was slightly irritated by, it's incredibly drawn out and could have been condensed to a much more watchable length.

The actual plot of the dark comedy is quite a funny situation, but isn't as good as other Lemmon films.
106
Red Riding: 1974 2009,  Unrated)
Red Riding: 1974
With a very slow start, this installment in the Red Riding triology builds up to a powerful climax. With an all star British cast, all of whom give great performances, Part one whets the appetite for the rest of the trilogy.
107
The Out-of-Towners 1969,  G)
108
Taken 2008,  PG-13)
Taken
A stylish and intelligent Action Thriller, with a surprisingly slick performance from Liam Neeson. Impressive stunts and a thrill ride from start to finish, this is one Dad you don't want to get on the wrong side of!
109
Simone (S1m0ne) 2002,  PG-13)
Simone (S1m0ne)
Unusual for Al Pacino tot take on such a role of a slightly Comedic fashion, in a film that wasn't really really great.

I like the concept of the film and it's obviously not an out of reach techology to perform, but I guess it sums up a lot metaphorically about celebrity and their followers too.
110
Double Jeopardy 1999,  R)
Double Jeopardy
Whilst I do not find Ashley Judd one othe more convincing Actresses, this is a film that holds yours attention and urges the need for retribution to take place. Cheesy in parts, but helped along by Tommy Lee Jones, this is an enjoyable film of the 90's.
111
Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties 2006,  PG)
Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
Having enjoyed the first film, I feel this was a a worthy sequel, I love the computer generated Garfield with his entertaining dance moves. Bill Murray was the perfect pick for this voice.

So, it's the sequel, it's London and it's slightly based on the story The Prince and the Pauper.

Fun and easy watching and enjoyable for both kids and adults alike!
112
The Phantom of the Opera 2005,  PG-13)
The Phantom of the Opera
I hadn't heard great things about this film, however I do believe that Musicals are a required taste and most of the viewer's who enjoy Musicals tend to know a little about the stories, characters and music beforehand.

I, myself have seen the production on stage and of course nothing substitutes a live performance and the atmospheric feel of a theatre particularly with the Phantom as being part of the audience is being part of the show.

Having said this, I do feel that the film was put together qs well as possible with the film, in the casting, the costumes, the colour, the scenery, which came across well on screen.

The controversial part of course was the Actors miming to trained voices, which had put off of watching the film, but having now seen it, I can see it works perfectly well.

The film was drawn out and it's a bit of a love-hate one for me!
113
Red Riding: 1980 2009,  Unrated)
Red Riding: 1980
Another brilliant British cast for the 2nd installment of the Red Riding trilogy, with my personal favourite of course, Paddy Considine.

I do feel on this one, that the acting was far superior to the actual plot at times and whilst I was expecting more in depth investigation to the Yorkshire Ripper, what was delivered was the background of the investigation along with a personal sub plot to the investigators, still a great watch though.
114
Holes 2003,  PG)
Holes
An easy watching kids film with a fun plot.
115
The Commitments 1991,  R)
The Commitments
A story documenting the rise and fall of the band The Commitments. With enjoyable vocals and those well known songs, this film makes for an easy watching tongue in cheek piece.

In a seperate issue, I can't help thinking this discredits the film ONCE ever so slightly I had thought their performances were really good, I hadn't known Glen Hansard had already appeared in this film.
116
The Obsession 2006,  Unrated)
The Obsession
A simple made for tv film, which was highly predictable, but made for light viewing
117
The Quick and the Dead 1995,  R)
The Quick and the Dead
A sort of modernised Western with an intriguing cast, possibly Gene Hackman stood out the most to me and played his role well. Having a woman in the contest obviously was the purpose of the film here and gave the genre something a little different.

Watchable,but not kissable.
118
Fracture 2007,  R)
Fracture
In a battle of arrogance between prosecuting lawyer and defendant, mind games begin and the frustration builds.

Anthony Hopkins plays an intellectual killer (sounds like his role as Hannibal Lector, but a much different character I promise) who has covered his tracks so well, he is about to get away with murder.

I feel Gosling has reached a higher rung on the Hollywood ladder with this film. This a great psychological thriller.
119
Foul Play 1978,  PG)
Foul Play
I wasn't expecting big things from this film, but having Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase starring in this, I had at least expected an easy watching comedy, but it had very little entertainment value.
120
Case 39 2010,  R)
Case 39
I think this is the first role of Rene Zellwegger's where she has impressed me, an enjoyable but predictable storyline, however it was acted fairly well and came across more Supernatural Thriller than Horror.

It has to be said that after the build up of the story, the ending was a little disappointing.
121
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden) 2009,  R)
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden)
Another superbly acted installment of this gritty trilogy. Impressive performances all round.

More cover ups, corruption and abuse lead to an uncovering of more of Lisbeth's past and a deeper investigation.
122
12 Rounds 2009,  PG-13)
12 Rounds
I'm not the biggest fan of Wrestler turned Actors and it's fair to say if I'd known that was the case with this film I probably would've avoided it, however apart from having been influenced by lots of other films, an being ridiculously unbelievable, it surprisingly kept my attention and was a watchable film
123
Don Juan DeMarco 1995,  PG-13)
Don Juan DeMarco
I rarely get girly over heart-throb Actors, but if Johnny Depp wasn't tempting enough, in this film he appears as the World's greatest lover too!

A romanticised Drama, with a phychological touch, enjoyable and easy watching.
124
The Strangers 2008,  R)
The Strangers
So bad, I couldn't last any longer than 50 minutes with this. It's slow, too dark and lacking in suspense and thrill.
125
10 Rillington Place 1971,  PG)
10 Rillington Place
Not the fastest moving of films, but based on a true story, it's an intriguing watch. Attenborough was very good in this sinister role and for the time of it's release, it managed to show enough of the story to give a gruelling account of the case.
126
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 1968,  G)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
A childhood favourite and a Classic Musical with an adventurous journey. From the whacky inventions to the dreamlike journey, it's a film filled with familiar songs to all with some memorable dance scenes.
127
Murder 101 1991,  PG-13)
Murder 101
For the standard of film this could quite as easily come across as an episode of Murder She Wrote or Diagnosis Murder, which makes me wonder why Pierce Brosnan would have chosen this as a film to appear in.

Strangely enough though..the story was entriguing and I like the idea of writing and planning the Perfect Murder, whilst you watch the film unfold.

Perhaps a little cheesy with the ending, but given a better standard of film and acting, this would definitely have come across as a much better film.
128
Infernal Affairs II 2003,  PG-13)
Infernal Affairs II
Despite not working out that this was a prequel and not a sequel until half way through, the film impacted hard with natural, gritty performances, a gripping storyline and some wonderful music to accompany those powerful scenes, impressive second installment.
129
A Prophet (Un prophete) 2009,  R)
A Prophet (Un prophete)
A very believable, Gritty Prison Drama, sometimes slow moving (and I personally felt I lost a little of the information in the film because of that) but a compelling tale with realistic acting and surroundings etc.

Possibly worth watching twice to make sure the whole story has been digested, but certainly one of the best Prison Dramas ever.
130
Ca$h 2008,  R)
Ca$h
Corny and predictable, yet annoyingly enjoyable, would have loved to see a tweist at the end of this film, but the plot is very straight forward in an easy watching way.

Whilst I often have a problem with English accents in American all sounding the same, Sean Bean uses his own Sheffield accent in this film and I guess I would have to put it to not Brits to say whether that works or not.

The double role for Bean was also a little cheesy, hasn't this been done too many times? As early as the Norman Wisdom days?
131
The Wolfman 2010,  R)
The Wolfman
A drawn out film which was darkly filmed for maximum effect, yet felt too dark to see the movement at times. The metamorphesis was impressive, which you can't help but compare to American Werewolf in London, that having been a much talked about part of that film.

I did feel pretty disappointed by the final look of the Wolfman, to me it seemed not much more than an upgraded version of teen wolf and with the effects, make up and CGI these days I had expected more.

Watchable but nothing special.
132
Arlington Road 1999,  R)
Arlington Road
A great start to the film, grabs your attention from the off, it then plods along at a steady pace and then hits you right again at the end with an unexpected ending.

An enjoyable performance by Jeff Bridges and overall an enjoyable Conspiracy/Political Thriller.
133
Rendition 2007,  R)
Rendition
Interestingly 'unHollywood' for a 'Hollywood' film and certainly do not judge this as a typical Reece Witherspoon film, it's anything but!

Opinions will vary on Intelligence methods, either way it's a voyeuristic view of something that the average person would never witness.

Fears for the innocent arise, fears for extremists slipping through the net arise.

Enjoyable, gritty and a situation no one would like to find themselves in.
134
Carrie 1976,  R)
Carrie
Not the Classic Horror film I was expecting to see and certainly not one I would have associated with Stephen King.

I have now watched it for the sake of watching it, but it's not the greatest Horror or the greatest Stephen King adaption.
135
Sherrybaby 2006,  R)
Sherrybaby
Unexpectedly, a great watch! A role for Maggie Gyllenhaal that demands her acting abilities to be taken seriously.

The story doesn't appear in a conventional storytelling way, ie. a beginning, middle and end, it works far better as an extract of a family life in working progress.

I like the way the film shows both sides of the story, it doesn't prejudice the story in either way and allows you to raise your own feelings.
136
Sleuth 2007,  R)
Sleuth
Here's a film to divide audiences - Michael Caine and Jude Law in a dialogue fuelled film Directed by Keneth Branagh.

A mind game about control, one upmanship, love, money and lonliness. A low budget flick that holds your attention throughout and you will certainly have a love it or hate it feeling come the end.
137
Wilderness 2006,  R)
Wilderness
It all started out ok, with a Young Offenders prison etc, thought this could be quite a good story, but it's no different to any other slasher on an island type film, where everybody gets killed off as some kind of revenge, I hang my head in shame to not only see the Brits (who rarely do Slasher films) to come up with something so one-dimensional and to top it off, Toby Kebbell - why are you lowering yourself to take on this film? When your acting skills are clearly above such films!
138
Forgotten 1999,  Unrated)
Forgotten
This comes across as more of a TV Drama, than a film, but it is based on a true story and Amanda Burton and Paul Magann lead the cast to a heartfelt disappearance of a little girl.

It was all over a bit quick for me, which is why, I feel it would have been better as maybe a 2 part serial and made to be more drawn out.
139
Some Kind of Wonderful 1987,  PG-13)
Some Kind of Wonderful
A cheesy 80's teen romance, but exactly the type of film that epitomises that era for me.

Never knew this was Eric Stoltz though!
140
I'm Still Here 2010,  R)
I'm Still Here
WARNING - SPOILER ALERT!

This one is sort of a review of 2 halves for me. The Documentary reveals a whole different Joaquin to the one we see in films as the Actor, it's clear from the film that Phoenix's explosions and tantrums are similar to a young child's outbursts, he is ironically egotistical for a man who feels he affects people in a positive way, hugely controlling and very much a Diva with a small entourage pandering his every need.

He then faces a world where he just wants to dive in at the deep end. It's arrogant and very cringeworthy at times and shows Phoenix in a totally repulsive state.

There were hints throughout the film as to it's authenticity and whilst Brother-in-law Casey Affleck Directed the film, this could very much have been watching Joaquin commit Career suicide.

...and so it is revealed this is a Mockumentary! Toward the end you are almost hoping that it is and of course turns everything in my review around and of course, Phoenix and others acted their roles very realistically, it was a great stunt and it was pulled off well!
141
Thoroughly Modern Millie 1967,  G)
Thoroughly Modern Millie
A true childhood favourite of mine, a very memorable tale with song and dance made famous by Julie Andrews.

It's probably not as great as I remember it being, but there is still lots about this film that make it an enjoyable watch.
142
The United States of Leland 2002,  R)
The United States of Leland
There is something about Ryan Gosling that attracts films of a Psychological nature. Whilst the topic of this film, could so easily have appeared an open and shut case, we delve into a much deeper psyche in an almost Devil's Advocate view of the events.

This one could open up to discussion and debate about the rights and wrongs etc etc, another good role for the talented young Actor.
143
Secretary 2002,  R)
Secretary
A progressive story from self harm to S&M, quite a strange view on the subject and the style in which it presents itself and yet something makes this film an intriguing watch.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is once again comfortable with her body in this film, which must make awkward viewing to Brother Jake at times.
144
Coraline 2009,  PG)
Coraline
Predicted rating: 4 stars

Coraline is really a Horror film for young children, it really does play on many fears that a young child may have, with a very dark side to the story, it carries itself in a Burtonesque style.

There are clear signs of influence of Henry Selick's earlier film The Nightmare before Christmas.

Coraline starts off slow, but soon becomes an interesting adventure of two parallel worlds merging together.

In a Stranger's Hand 1991,  Unrated)
In a Stranger's Hand
Predicted rating: 2.5 stars

Based on a true story, this made for tv style film is cheaply made and yet still an interesting watch. The film is far from flawless and pretty corny in some ways, it's one of those 'if you hadn't been told it was true, you wouldn't believe it' type films
146
Scream 3 2000,  R)
Scream 3
Predicted rating: 2 Stars

Milking the original storyline for as much as possible, it's hard to believe how far this series has gone and with another just made, which direction can it possibly take. with that said, sequels are my guilty pleasure and whilst I don't hold out good hope, I've no doubt I will see it along the line somewhere.

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People 2008,  R)
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People
My predicted rating: 3.5

Simon Pegg always manages to bring something new to the table where the storylines are concerned and his unique humour never tires. The great thing about Pegg is that he manages to star in Rom Coms which do not fit the Rom Com mould and appeals to the masses, not just lovers of the sub-genre.

Here's hoping this man never runs out of new films to appear in!
148
Dead Man Running 2009,  R)
Dead Man Running
My predicted rating: 3 stars

If I said I watched a film about some friends in London who borrowed Ł100k and have a time limit in which to pay it back to some Gangsters, whilst trying to juggle lots of distracting characters along the way, throw in a bare knuckle boxer, a fixed bet and a famous name from across the pond, you'd think it had Guy Ritchie written all over it!

With a full cast of British Actors (and one 50 Cent), the idea is clearly based on the Guy Ritchie films, but not quite as stylish. It was predictable in parts and both Dyer and Hassan are their usual typecast selves, but when all is said and done, it was quite funny in parts and made for easy watching, Brenda Blethyn was comical and provided the best performance of the film and all in all it was an easy watching, enjoyable copycat film.
149
Big 1988,  PG)
Big
The late 80's Classic, that made every kid want a piano on the floor to play Chopsticks on. The film still hasn't lost any of it's magic, watching it this many years on.

Nostalgic and fun.

The Bank Job 2008,  R)
The Bank Job
Surprisingly a very good film. If you're expecting a Hollywood Action film as I was (yes I didn't read up on it before I watched it) you'll be pleasantly surprised by this story. based on true events, told in a true London gangster tradition kind of way, with high ranking envolvement.

A very enjoyable Brit film, with a great cast. Statham is back playing the roles he is good at.
151
Source Code 2011,  PG-13)
Source Code
My predicted rating: 4 stars

Just when you think you've seen it all before, Source Code provides a slightly different take on the Time Travel sub-genre. An enjoyable performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and an ending which was less than predictable.
152
Shelter 2010,  R)
Shelter
Predicted rating: 3.5

Started well and ended well, but it lost a little interest in the middle, despite good performances from both Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

The Multiple Personality/Psychological input was much more intriging than the possession route it took.
153
The Contract 2007,  R)
The Contract
My predicted rating: 3

Entertaining and easy watching, but it is just a story with nothing special to pull out of the bag. Worth watching if it comes on tv, but missable if you don't.
154
Rocky II 1979,  PG)
Rocky II
My predicted rating: 2.5

Worth seeing as part of the series, but it's just like the first with added parts of Rocky's personal life thrown in.
155
Eden Lake 2008,  R)
Eden Lake
Eden Lake is just one of many Horrors brought out with terrorising teens and yet for me this one seemed so much more realistic, perhaps because it was English made and that makes me, as an English woman relate, but hopefully also for realistic acting and disturbingly natural violence and menace.

Kelly Reilly played an interesting role in this and it was good to see Thomas Turgoose take a step back here and not take the limelight after his first two successes with Shane Meadows. Tense and shockingly not far fetched, I particularly like the way this film ended, it stayed with the realistic feel and never took on the clichés so many Horror films do.
156
Rocky III 1982,  PG)
Rocky III
My predicted rating: 2 stars

Probably my favourite of the Rocky series films I've seen to date. A little more action from the very beginning, a couple of well known faces and back to the training techniques.

The Rocky films are far from flawless, with it's predictable fights and unbelievable comebacks during the matches, even so, they are what they are and this was the most entertaining so far.
157
The I Inside 2004,  R)
The I Inside
My predicted rating: 3.5 stars

The time travel in this film was merely between two points in time and with an added plot of memory loss this became a story revealed between the two points in time. A bit of a mind bending film with a sudden ending which left me feeling disappointed after anticipating a big twist.
158
The Wizard of Oz 1939,  G)
The Wizard of Oz

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane 2006,  R)
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
My predicted rating: 2.5

This ticks a lot of the usual boxes for a typical teen Slasher, regardless it was one that flowed and was easy watching, predictable, but enjoyable in a guilty pleasure kind of way.
160
W Delta Z (The Killing Gene) 2006,  R)
W Delta Z (The Killing Gene)
My predicted rating: 3

This plot could easily have been made into a gritty Thriller, or a very suspenseful Horror, instead it came across as a cheap version of an otherwise potentially good film. The acting started off pretty poor and got better in parts. The Brit Actors were quality Actors who are worthy of much better roles.

It was sort of watchable, but totally lacked any suspense.
161
Gamer 2009,  R)
Gamer
My predicted rating: 3

Death Race meets Call of Duty!

This futuristic prison Sci-fi film gets off to a great start and also ends well, but somehow lacks a little enjoyability in the middle. This really highlights the amount of time and commitment given to computer games and where the future could lead with the addiction of games and the future of our prisons.
162
Eat Pray Love 2010,  PG-13)
Eat Pray Love
A film I've been eagerly anticipating. I'm not a huge fan of Julia Roberts, or of Romantic Dramas in general, but for me, it was the travelling and spiritual journey which was of great interest and is an enlightening true tale.

This, I'm sure, will be the first of many watches.
163
Ghost Town 2008,  PG-13)
Ghost Town
My predicted rating: 2.5

I feel this film exceeded my expectations, just because I had been given the impression that it was a complete flop. It's easy watching, with predictability in a "Ghost" meets "Bruce Almighty" type of way.
164
Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead 2008,  Unrated)
Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead
For the first half of the film we are just seeing a repeat theme of the first installment, however the second half evolves from just a chaser film, into a torture type Slasher, it's still very predictable and very much a no - brainer.
165
Diabolique (Les Diaboliques) 1954,  Unrated)
Diabolique (Les Diaboliques)
Quite a caniving plan for Murder for a film of it's time, told in a very much a Hitchcock fashion. Twists and turns keep this a gripping tale and whilst the start is a little slow, this soon becomes an intriguing story.

Passenger 57 1992,  R)
Passenger 57
Very typical of the 90's Action films, way over the top with lots of expensive things being blown up and everybody getting an ass-kicking.

Corny, predictable and a disappointing re-visit to a film that was better off having just been watched at it's release.
168
Child's Play 1988,  R)

An American Tail
A tale of immigration told through a cartoon world. This plays on a few Classic tales and re-watching the film at the age I am now you can really pick up on metaphors in relation to the human world. Despite all of the modern effects such as CGI, this film still works as a timeless piece of animation.

My predicted rating: 2.5

My advice here is to not judge the dvd by it's cover, firstly Kelly Brooke is in the film for around a minute or two and secondly it's the unknowns in this film that make it a watchable film. Tim Curry (the biggest name in the film) is possibly the least believable character in an otherwise relatable club culture.

Any past or present Clubbers out there, will probably appreciate the Club shoots, the characters it attracts and the way of life.

I do question whether the main character would really be so naive? But who knows, perhaps?

This was definitely better than expected for me as long as you take it for a low budget film with perhaps not quite the complexity of plot it tries to be.

Ripley's Game

A film that is reasonably slow moving in parts and yet still manages to be intriguing. It does lack a little psychological feel to it, but John Malkovich is one smooth criminal in this, watchable, but lacked a little something.

Takers 2010,  PG-13)
Takers
My predicted rating: 3.5 stars

There is a fair bit of Action in this heist film and a pretty good line up of Actors, which sort of gives it an Oceans Eleven spin, however that's where the similarities end, Takers is much grittier than most Action films of this kind with a good plot, interesting heist, depth of characters and interesting back stories and had the ability to be a great film, unfortunately on a down side, everything was a little too busy in parts and dragged in others.

The Bucket List
Some topics such as illness and death are hard to cover in the form of entertainment, but this film is one with several emotions attached. It becomes less about the meaning of death and more about the meaning of life, something that money can't buy, something that is inspiring and thought provoking and concentrates on the basic human needs.

How many times can one man get mugged?

One of the most famous vigilante films, Charles Bronson a one man vengeful vigilante, with a taste for justice, cool and obsessive as each person represents the true culprits he wishes to take out, whilst seeming untouchable.

A very watchable film with empathy for the character.

This isn't a Comedy in the sense that you'll be laughing all the way through, but it is a relatable Comedy with comical parts. Those family get togethers, the adult and child double standards - easy watching with a feel good factor.

An entertaining follow up to the first, time has moved on, so we're in with the new and almost out with the old, introducing new characters (along with old). It was of course the introduction of Amelia Earhart that carried the film and whilst it was easy watching, it wasn't a touch on the first.

Red Riding: 1983

Some of the best Gritty Drama Actors of the British Screen unite for the 3rd installment to the Red Riding Concluding part.

The high standard of acting, sometimes outweighs the actual story (which admittedly, at times were confusing) but stay with it, it builds up to a non disappointing ending, bringing to an end this impressive trilogy.

Just as they remake this film the original shows up on tv. A Classic 80's teen movie with lots of corny cliches. Boy meets girl, the town has banned music, boy brings music to the town for everybody to dance to.

A fun watch, if only to see a few recognisable faces, Kevin Bacon, Chris Penn, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dianne Wiest...

[Rewatch]

This film gets better every time I watch it. At the time of it's release it was compared so much with The Prestige (and vice versa) that I don't feel I judged this as a film in it's own right.

Norton plays slick, intelligent and mysterious and gives yet another solid performance, Paul Giamatti must get a mention here though, he stood out in the film and played his role to perfection.

The thought and details that have gone into the plot and to then reach, (what I consider) to be one of the best non guessable twists at the end makes this film seem more powerful with every watch.

Twelve 2010,  R)
Twelve
[My predicted rating: 3

This film almost has good points and could have made it as good film, perhaps if the acting was a little more gritty and parts of the plot were tidied up it would have been. In a world full of materialistic teens, the only one with a heart seems to be Drug Dealer "White Mike".

In the tough world of Drug dealing, gangs etc, "White Mike" seems to flow through with no trouble from more likely dealers, meanwhile we hear lots of back stories from all the characters, which never really go anywhere, it's a bit of a "pretty film". Fans of 50 Cent, will probably be disappointed in his small role, which really doesn't mix in too well.

I have to give one mention of praise though and that is to Rory Culkin, who did show some pretty decent acting skills.

Wanted gets better with each watch! The film is slick, has a high level of Action, is fast paced and the impressive on many levels, adapted from a Graphic Novel, we go from zero to hero with an audience pleasing plot.

The graphics were highly impressive, with some very unique visuals, the main character was developed well and the back story of the Fraternity and the assassinations were well written.

This is a film that will be watched over and over.

[Rewatch]

A hauntingly powerful film that will stay with you long after you've watched it. A performance so believable by Ed Norton and such a great physical transformation that he truly forced the way through on White Supremacy creating a very controversial film. A story of misdirected hate and anger.

One of the best prison films made, with some harsh truths of prison politics, a good role for Edward Furlong too.

Limitless 2011,  PG-13)
Limitless
A creative vision of a film exploring the realms of potential of the human body, this film pushes the full capabilities of the brain and the physical form toward into a highly sought after addiction.

Very much a 'what if?' type of film, that is both thought provoking and entertaining. Cooper plays a good role, but De Niro's presence in the film sadly insignificant, taking a backseat place.

Half Nelson
[My predicted rating: 3.5]

Very drawn out, yet very gritty and real to life. Another superb intense performance from Gosling, who is fast becoming one of the best Hollywood Actors of today.

The mood of the film is somewhat depressing, but it just reflects the reality of the circumstances and it really explores the depths of a strange relationship, which is close enough to make you feel uneasy watching it, yet on the flip side is a complete meeting of minds.

Fantastic performance from Shareeka Epps, who we will no doubt see much more of in the future.

This one was a great surprise to me, I was all set to watch a passable RomCom, but this was definitely a funny, albeit pretty crude Comedy. Dane Cook (not heard of before) was of course the star of this film, it was easy watching, cringeable in parts, corny but quite original.

I would never have chosen to watch this film and yet it did have a fair bit of entertainment value. Deadline
[My predicted rating: 3.5]

Well if you are only as good as your last film, then it's a little sad for Brittany Murphy's to have been this one. Don't get me wrong, Murphy as always put in a good performance, but the film itself was excrutiatingly slow at times and found myself getting lost through boredom. It is a very cliche ghost film and whilst the ending is supposed to be left as some kind of twist, it fell a bit flat and left you wondering whether you got the ending right or not!

As I've always slated this film without completing I thought I would give this the full viewing that my Flixster friends request. The Gift 2000,  R)
The Gift
A Supernatural Thriller with a convincing, natural performance by Cate Blanchett and a unique angle on a Murder investigation.

There is something of an emotional commitment brought to the storyline by the characters in this film, which really comes across well on screen. All in all it is a decent (greatly underrated) film, one that I have watched time and time again.

Enjoyable and easy watching.

Basic Instinct 2
This film slightly surprised me, I'd held out very little hope for the sequel, having heard nothing good or bad about it and so I'd assume it to be a complete flop. Now I'm not saying it's to the contrary, but I did feel it had it's moments.

I had enjoyed the original when it was released, even if more recent watches of it made it seem a little corny and cliche.

In the sequel we move on to England and whilst the plot is similar to the first, we do have some of Britain's favourite Drama Actors included, in fact had this not been Basic Instinct 2 and it was not starring Sharon Stone, it could have been an ok tv Drama. Stone, however was over the top and was surely the corniest thing about the movie.

Sort of hit and miss, easy watching, but forgettable.

Deep Blue Sea 1999,  R)
Deep Blue Sea
I have to admit this film provided some intense moments and whilst this is sort of Jaws on Steroids, it did of course share the same predictability. Of course the graphics of the Sharks etc were more impressive and so were the actual kills. It did provide a few laughs although I doubt that was the intention.

I am usually a fan of Saffron Burrows, but this roles really didn't suit her and let's face it, LL Cool J has to be one of the worst Rapper turned Actors out there.

The set becomes repetitive and I found myself wanting them to escape just to see different scenery.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
A watchable sequel with superb animation when it comes to scenery. A little Lion King like in parts, but each have their own little sub stories in this one.
205
Bronson 2008,  R)
Bronson
I don't think this is quite the film people will be expecting to see when it comes to the infamous British prisoner; Charlie Bronson. It's not iconic like many other true crime films have come across.

Having heard a little about him previously and having recently watched a Documentary about him, there seems to be a few discrepancies and a few facts omitted from the film, perhaps for entertainment purposes. It certainly has it's fair share of violence, but that was quite often sheltered by the comedic theme throughout and failed to show an impact it had made on others.

Tom Hardy however, gave a great performance as the main character here and was actually unrecognisable when compared to some of his other recent work. The theatrical theme, I wasn't sure of at the beginning, but soon realised it's purpose and became quite entertaining and built us a view of his mental state.

For those of you who like to read up on true crime etc and have an interest in this genre, it is worth watching and again Tom Hardy does a great job, but may not be the insightful viewing you might expect. (I know others will disagree).

American: The Bill Hicks Story 2010,  PG-13)
American: The Bill Hicks Story
The life story of the highly censored and controversial Comedian Bill Hicks, which is deeply detailed with contributions from friends, family and fellow comedians.

Bill Hicks seemed to be a love it or hate it type character, whose "truths" and "thoughts" were either not what everybody would think, or were what everybody would think and not say. His humour was observational, deep, but highly amusing and often near to the knuckle, he questioned authority and practiced freedom of speech. . He threw Conspiracy theory's around and shared his stories of experimentation, all of this is captured, by those who knew him the most.

Unknown 2011,  PG-13)
Unknown
What started out to be an intriguing story of mystery, soon turned in to a very similar plot as the film "Frantic" starring Harrison Ford. It's ending gave it a pleasant twist though, but for me this was a little too much of an Action role for Liam Neeson, watchable all the same.

Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
Fincher's 'Fight Club' rightly takes it's place in popular film history as a classic must see. It had many levels and layers to it, which seem deeper each time I view it. The attention to detail, the transformation in Ed Norton's character, the growth in power, the bigger picture, the manipulation all crafted toward a brilliant conclusion.

The twisted plot gives first time viewers unpredictability and multiple viewers a sense of familiarity even though I can still pick up on something different each time.

My favourite quote of the film, which seems to sum the plot up well: "It's only when we've lost everything, we are free to do anything'.

Who Killed Nancy?
An interesting documentary, with plenty of input, it's certainly backed up from Sid's side and it seems there weren't a lot of people out there who even liked Nancy, so it does come across a little bias.

I felt that unless you read the synopsis for this short film, you don't really get what the aim of the film is about. It comes across as more of a role reversal brothel than a futuristic club where the fantasy of love is played out.

TONY LONDON SERIAL KILLER (To be entered after Holiday on the Buses)

A low budget, British, gritty film. Very realistic in acting and filming apart from the main character, whom I felt to be far too text book.

Whether accidentally or intentionally there are a lot of similarities to British Serial Killer Dennis Neilson here. The film is more of a 'recording the events' or showing the Mundane routine of the life through a killer's eyes, which made for gritty storytelling, but also made for drawn out viewing.
