The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc)
Wow, this movie is beautifully made. I highly recommend seeing this movie, it's intensely dramatic, and visually brilliant, and the actors are just perfect. I loved it.

The Ten Commandments 1923,  Unrated)
The Ten Commandments
This movie is extremely long, so I only saw the first half, but I want to rent it again and see the second half. The special effects are spectacular, the story is brilliant, realistic, and historic, I loved this movie, it's better than the 50s remake.
3
Seventh Heaven (1927) 1927,  Unrated)
Seventh Heaven (1927)
A beautiful and brilliantly made romantic drama with some comedy and suspense. I loved the ending too, it was fantastic. I highly recommend this movie.

Der Letzte Mann (The Last Laugh) 1924,  PG)
Der Letzte Mann (The Last Laugh)
A brilliant movie with great actors, director, and story. A classic.
5
The Jazz Singer 1927,  Unrated)
The Jazz Singer
Finally after years of hearing about this movie and seeing clips from it in historical film documentaries, I finally watched it! And I really liked it too! The story is universal and still applies today, Jolson was great as the Jewish cantor's son who wanted to be a jazz singer instead of a cantor like his father. Of course this movie is famous for having bits of dialogue spoken, which is spoken during the song sequences. This device is both really cool and makes you wish the whole movie were a talky, but it also is kinda annoying at times too, as the transitions are a bit awkward. Overall, I really liked this movie, though.
6
The Man Who Laughs 1927,  Unrated)
The Man Who Laughs
A great classic movie, I really liked it, it's beautiful. I can tell that many films have been inspired by this story, and it's great to finally see the inspiration. I highly recommend seeing this movie.
7
Diary of a Lost Girl 1929,  Unrated)
Diary of a Lost Girl
First of all, it's strange that Flixster says this movie is from 1981, it's really from 1929! Anyway, I highly recommend this movie, it's a has a great story, it's not dated at all, and it's very engaging. I really liked this movie.
8
Evangeline 1929,  Unrated)
Evangeline
This movie has such a heartbreaking, sad story, it makes you want to cry. It also has some good suspenseful scenes, like when they're searching for each other. It's a good movie, and I really felt for the couple, it's crazy what happened to their village.
9
Queen Kelly 1929,  Unrated)
Queen Kelly
Wow, that was a great love story, I just wish they could have found all the footage for the ending so we could see it all. I really liked this movie, and if you're a fan of Swanson, you should see it too.
10
Lucky Star 1929,  Unrated)
Lucky Star
A beautiful romantic drama, with some charming humor as well. The story was good, and so were the actors. It's both sad and happy, I really liked it, and I highly recommend it.
11
Sparrows 1926,  Unrated)
Sparrows
A predictable end, but a truly sad dramatic story. Pickford is charmingly heroic, as well as the kids in the movie. This movie was a lot better than I expected, it's really good.
12
The Love of Jeanne Ney 1927,  Unrated)
The Love of Jeanne Ney
This romantic mystery thriller is exciting and the actors are really good, I really liked it.
13
My Best Girl 1927,  Unrated)
My Best Girl
Although the romance in the film is as predictable as ever, this movie has charm and humor, and great actors. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it.
14
The Battle Of The Sexes 1928,  Unrated)
The Battle Of The Sexes
This movie was better than I thought it would be, it's funny and surprising, with a very realistic and dramatically intense story. It's kind of predictable, but I really enjoyed it.
15
Battleship Potemkin 1925,  Unrated)
Battleship Potemkin
Great movie, but somewhat boring. I didn't get to watch the entire movie yet, though. I plan on watching it again.
16
It 1927,  Unrated)
It
This is an interesting romantic drama, which gives you a sense about relationships in the time period, but it is a predictable love story. There are some funny moments, but the movie could have been better.
17
Street Angel (1928) 1928,  Unrated)
Street Angel (1928)
This romantic drama was pretty good, the actors were good, the story was so-so, and everything else was just okay. It is a predictable romance movie in the end, but there is a good deal of realistic elements to it. Overall, it could have been better, though.
18
The Manxman 1929,  Unrated)
The Manxman
A pretty good silent melodrama from Hitchcock, it's sad and realistic, but some scenes are kind of boring and overly dramatic. Overall, it's a pretty good movie.
19
Why Change Your Wife? 1920,  Unrated)
Why Change Your Wife?
A nice little romantic drama where everyone learns a lesson in love and marriage. Nothing spectacular, but it's pretty good.
20
Applause 2009,  R)
Applause
The actors are very good, and the story is touching, but it's a predictable and overused plot. So, it's a good movie, but it could have done something to make it stand out more and make it different.
21
A Woman of Paris 1923,  Unrated)
A Woman of Paris
This was a good movie, a sad, romantic, and sometimes a bit humourous story, with good actors. Just note that Chaplin only directs the movie, he doesn't act in it. Overall, it's a good movie, but there were a couple of boring scenes in the middle of the movie.
22
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans 1927,  Unrated)
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans
This movie is an incredibly simple romantic drama, with a predictable ending, and it's really slow too. I was expecting more, but that was all there was to it. If you really like romantic dramas, you'll like it better than I did, but still I want to say that it could have been better.
23
Pandora's Box 1929,  Unrated)
Pandora's Box
Brooks plays a girl who plays around with men, she doesn't want to be thought of as a prostitute or anything though, she never goes with guys she doesn't like. She marries an older man, but he believes he has ruined his reputation by doing so, so he decides they must die together. She doesn't think that's a good idea, but he ends up killing himself anyway, and she is blamed for his murder. She goes on the run with the guy's son, and they gamble away all their money. I wanted to write my own summary of this movie because the one on Flixster tells you about Jack the Ripper as if he played an important part throughout the film, but really we only see him in the end, which I don't want to give away. I didn't like this movie much because the story was pretty confusing most of the time, I think mainly because there aren't enough title cards (the written dialogue shown). Also, I thought the ending was stupid. I did like the movie for Brooks' acting and the interesting characters, so it's not a bad movie. Overall, it's okay.
24
The Midnight Girl 1925,  Unrated)
The Midnight Girl
A melodramatic, but somewhat exciting movie (only because of Lugosi). Overall it's so-so.
25
Blackmail 1929,  Unrated)
Blackmail
On the one hand, the story is very simple, but slow and dragged out, which is kind of annoying, and the nothing is really resolved the way it should. On the other hand this movie is visually interesting, much like later Hitchcock films, and it's one of the first sound films too. Overall, it's interesting to see, but the story could be a lot better.
26
The Love Trap 1929,  Unrated)
The Love Trap
I have a feeling this could have been a good movie, but it just isn't. It's okay, but still an average romantic comedy drama type movie.
27
Hindle Wakes (Fanny Hawthorne) 1929,  Unrated)
Hindle Wakes (Fanny Hawthorne)
An average romantic drama, with a stupid ending, it's realistic, but disappointing. The movie spends way too much time showing the couples having fun on vacation, it gets really boring. Overall, it's just okay.
28
Easy Virtue 1927,  Unrated)
Easy Virtue
This is an okay movie, you can see from Hitchcock's early films the creation of his styles, but his early films are not as suspenseful as his other films.
29
Beyond the Rocks 1922,  Unrated)
Beyond the Rocks
An average romantic drama with nothing new to offer. I'd only recommend it to fans of Swanson and/or Valentino. Overall it isn't bad, it's just not good either. There are a couple of exciting scenes but that's it.
30
Piccadilly 1929,  Unrated)
Piccadilly
A typical romance drama mystery involving dancers who are fighting over a man, nothing new. It's not horrible, but it's not good either.
31
The Ring 1927,  Unrated)
The Ring
A pretty boring romantic drama about boxing and carnival folks and stuff like that. I expected at least a little more excitement from Hitchcock.
32
The Saphead 1920,  Unrated)
The Saphead
This is probably one of Keaton's worst movies.
33
The Birth of a Nation 1915,  G)
The Birth of a Nation
Today it is still hard to believe that Griffith ever made this movie. I wouldn't recommend watching this movie unless you're watching it for research.
