Anne of Green Gables 1985, G)
A Canadian classic in film. It is a long film but worth the watch. Megan Follows is excellent as Anne. She gives a all star performance. So do Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth as well. A great story of Anne who changes the lives of her family, friends and loved ones. The film is beautifully shot and and has a great cast of characters. One of those films that shows the past and history of Prince Edward Island and Canada. A great film. |

Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel (Anne of Avonlea) 1987, G)
A great sequel to the original Anne of Green Gables film. The film takes place right after the original. Anne is older and we follow her life as a teacher away from her hone in Prince Edward Island. The film is beautifully shot and has a great cast of characters. Plus a great story. Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst still give great performances in this sequel. A Canadian film classic. |

Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story 2000, Unrated)
This is the third movie in the Anne of Geen Gables series. Megan Follows is back as Anne. She is married and has a child. Her husband goes off to as a army medic during WWI. She goes off to find him. That is the basic storyline. This was not as good as the first two in the series but I still enjoyed it. I always found the change in history from the time Anne was a child up to WWI very interesting. Was neat to see the way things changed. If you enjoyed the other Anne of Green Gables then you should like this as well. Meg Follows is still great in her portray of Anne. A solid movie overall. Worth a watch. |

Men with Brooms 2002, R)
Paul Gross and company bring us a decent comedy centered around curling. Now the story is entertaining and some of the characters are very interesting. You can tell this has the Canadian cinema feel and look to it. Paul Gross plays the lead character very well. They try and bring some coolness or excitment to the sport of curling during the movie. I have played and watched curling. It's not that exciting or cool. The film has a great soundtrack. You even get a cameo from the Tragically hip. |

Passchendaele 2008, Unrated)
A strong war movie about Canadian soldiers and their fight during World War I. The story focus is on character Michael Dunn. We follow him during the war and see him sent back to Canada after getting injured. He finds love and tries to make sense of the war and life. But love also sends him back in to the war. Once back his group of soldiers must take a place called Passchendaele from the Germans. The story is quite accurate with the history of the war and how Canadians at home viewed thefight from afar. A great look into a piece of Canadian history. I enjoyed that part very much. The battle scenes are quite graphic and violent. Actor and director of the film Paul Gross wanted to give a realistic potray of this part of history. The film has that mix of a war, history and a love story. Actor Paul Gross does a great job in the lead role as well directing this film. Plus a great Canadian cast of actors filling in the other roles. If you like historical and war films then check this out. Well worth the watch. |

Whale Music 1994, Unrated)This film was very odd. A story that I found slow in parts and not very interesting at times. More of a character film. May appeal to those who enjoy character driven films. About a recluse rock star that gets inspiration from a young women. The acting is solid in this. It was just the story that could have been better. |

Trailer Park Boys: The Movie 2006, R)
A very funny movie. If you like the television show then you will like the movie. Just seems like a long episode. Look for cameo's by Hugh Dillon(ex Headstones singer, now has his own band and actor in TV/movies) and Gord Downie(from the Tragically Hip). The film is basically a heist film With Ricky, Julian and Bubbles trying to make a big score. The characters are crazy and fun. You might have to be a fan of the show though to enjoy the film. I liked it. |

Foolproof 2003, R)
This is a solid heist film. Stars Ryan Reynolds, Kristin Booth, Joris Jarsky and David Suchet. Three friends as a hobby try to make a foolproof plan to rob a bank. But when a local criminal learns of them he blackmails them to help pull off a heist. They must use their wits to get out of this crime before they are killed or sent to jail. The film has a solid story and the acting is also solid. Some laughs in this with also some fun scenes when it comes to robbing the vault. If you enjoy a good heist film then give this a watch. |

Kids in the Hall - Brain Candy 1996, R)
Very funny if you like the Kids in the Hall humour! (Did you see. Did you see. The doctor and me.) (Cancer Boy-Ow, my marrow is low). I always get a great laugh from watching this film. But this may not be a film for all. I loved the television series when it was on. So this film was great for me as a fan. But of course I just ate a stubbie before I wrote this review.(You have to see the movie to know what the stubbie is) Overall I would recommend the film but then this may not be everyones type of movie if you don't enjoy Kids in the Hall humour. |

Canadian Bacon 1994, R)
As a Canadian I fine this move very funny. Michael Moore brings in a lot of the typical stereotypes that Canadians are deemed to have. Sure some are spot on and just over exaggerated. There are even some typical preceived American stereotypes in this as well. The story is basically that the American goverment are trying to start a war with Canada since they have no one else to fight since the Russians ended the cold war and they need to jump start the American economy again. You can tell this is set well before 9/11. This film has a great cast. John Candy, Alan Alda, Kevin Pollak, Rhea Perlman, Bill Nunn and many others are very funny in this. Overall this is just a silly funny movie to watch. |

Maurice Richard (The Rocket) 2007, PG)
A great hockey film. I'm not a Montreal Canadian fan but this is a must for hockey fans. A great film showing the struggles of a man and his family in Quebec trying to survive. Hockey was a second job to Maurice to feed his family. Shows the tough times of the NHL before helmets and very little pay in it. Also shows how the rich and poor are divided in this and how things change over time. Much more than a hockey film. A film about a great man and a Canadian hero. |

The Wrong Guy 1998, PG-13)
A very funny movie! If you like Kids in the Hall then you will like this film. Dave Foley is very funny in this. Taken bits right from the fugitive it is almost a spoof. You have to love the cop who is after the killer but is so lazy and wasting time on bad leads. A favorite comedy of mine to watch. Well worth a watch. |

Strange Brew 1988, PG)
Classic Canadian comedy. Sure it is kind of stupid but still a classic. Stars Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as characters Bob and Doug McKenzie from the classic sketch show SCTV. These characters helped inspire Mike Myers and Dana Carvey's Wayne's World. The film has tons of laughs and odd characters. Sure a lot of this is a groaner to watch but I always liked it. So Take off Eh! You Hoser! |

Down to the Dirt 2008, Unrated)
This is a Canadian film about two young Newfoundlanders angry at the world. This young man and girl fall in love and leave their small home and move to the city of St. John's. Everything is fine at first but they grow apart. The girl then moves to Halifax, NS and the young man follows shortly after to try and get her back. Of course his life is crashing around him because or drugs and alcohol. This is a very odd film at times. I could never seem to relate or like the young man. He was angry with life but they never really got into why he was. Not a bad ending to the film. But overall I found this to be a odd and at times boring movie. |

Exotica 1994, R)
This was a strange film. Not a all star cast but they do a good job in their roles. Stars Bruce Greenwood, Elias Koteas, Don McKellar, and Mia Kirshner. The movie is Canadian made. It does have that cinematic look of most Canadian films. The story at first has you wondering what all these characters have in common. The more the movie goes the more answers you will get. A very strong character piece of film. The story does develop slow at most points but the acting made it more enjoyable. Movie may not be for all but I think it is worth a one time watch. |

Leonard Maltin's Animation Favorites From the National Film Board of Canada 2001, Unrated)
As a Canadian we as kids were always subjected to a bunch of animated shorts from the National Film Board of Canada. Some were very good. Some were okay. Some were very funny. This is a collection of some of the best animated short films. Some of my favorites like the Sweater and The Cat Came Back are in this. Some of the animation in these are very good and very unique. If you like short animated movies then these are worth watching. |

The Dog Who Stopped the War (La Guerre des Tuques) 1984, Unrated)
This is a classic kids film from Canada. About a small town that has two groups of kids that engage in a giant snowball fight. I liked this when I was a kid. The kids in the movie made a great snow fort. It made myself and other kids want to copy what they made. The movie starts out as a fun snow ball fight between the two groups but has a sad ending. The message in the end is about war and how there is always consequences to it. Overall this is a good movie for kids and the family to watch. |

Gunless 2011, Unrated)
This is a western movie but the story takes place up north in a small Canadian town. A American gunslinger called the Montana Kid comes into town injured, smelly and needing bullets. But Canada is not known for its gun play but more for its Mounties and their friendly citizens. Well at least most of them are friendly. He sticks around to pay off some debts and to have a duel with the local blacksmith. The film stars Paul Gross. He is funny yet also scary at the same time. The film has bits of comedy and drama. There are many funny moments and lines throughout this film. Plus the Canadian scenery is beautiful in this movie. Not your typical western movie that should appeal to people who don't usually watch a western. Well worth the watch. |

Bon Cop, Bad Cop 2006, R)
This is a decent cop movie. About two cops in Canada. One from Ontario and the other from Quebec. When a dead body falls on the border between the provinces the two detectives must work together to solve the crime. This turns out to be your typical buddy cop movie. Full of jokes, fighting and explosions. The thing that sets this apart from most cops films is that half the film is spoken in English and the other half in French. The French is subtitle of course for those who can not speak it. This is the jem part of the film. Two cops in the same country but the cultures are so different yet the same. The tension between the cops and the humour is excellent. Any Canadian will enjoy the humour that the English and French cops jab at each other. The dialogue is very witty. Actors Colm Feore and Patrick Huard are great together in this original type of buddy cop film. The weakest point of the film has to be the killer. I won't say what he is killing for but it could have been a much better reason. The story overall though is soild. And I must say the death of the killer in the end was great. I would like to see a sequel to this film. The two cops are funny and worth watching again on a new case. A good Canadian made film worth checking out. |

Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day 2009, R)
This is the second movie based off of the popular television show the Trailer Park Boys. The story takes place two years after the last television special of the Trailer Park Boys. All the guys are back. Bubbles, Julian, Ricky, Mr.Lahey, Randy, Lucy, Tyrone and J-Roc. Now if you have never watched a episode of the television series then you will get loss with the characters and past stories. This is a movie more for the hardcore fans. The movie is your typical Trailer Park Boys antics. Swearing, crime and getting into situations to send them back to jail. The movie is very funny. But then if you have never watched the show then you may not find it as funny. The movie seemed more like a long episode of the television series. But I liked it. I would suggest watching the television series before watching this movie. But overall this is a solid comedy that made me laugh. |
