"I feel just like Julia Roberts in 'Pretty Woman'. You know, except for the whole hooker thing." These two opposites attract...but everyone's trying to keep them apart! Zack Siler is the most popular guy at school and makes a bet that he can take any girl in school and turn her into the prom queen. With five weeks until the prom, his friends pick the weird art nerd Laney Boggs as Zack predictably gets more than he bargained for as he falls in love with his "creation". Released on January 29, 1999, She's All That was directed by Robert Iscove and a modern retelling of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. I've checked it out at least three times and I liked it for its share of jokes and comedic moments that really got me in the eye. And since it came out in the late '90s around the same time I entered junior high it was memorable for - among other fads of the time - featuring the MTV series The Real World. Although they appear to be opposites with few commonalities to deal with and coming from different backgrounds Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook prove to be more than a real cute match - they were really big stars here. :) Watch this overall great movie if you like teen romantic comedies or ugly duckling makeover stories.
How do I loathe thee? In a written poem like the one Kat wrote, let me count the 10 Things I Hate About You, a modern re-telling of the William Shakespeare play The Taming Of The Shrew. Bianca Stratford is the most popular girl at high school, but she is in a dilemma. Her overprotective father, as part of a family rule, forbids her from dating until her unpopular and rebellious older sister Kat gets a suitor of her own. So in an attempt for Cameron - the new arriving kid - to win Bianca as a date, potential boyfriend Joey desperately attempts to set Kat up with Patrick Verona, another rebel who may just be able to win Kat's heart.
Directed by Gil Junger, 10 Things I Hate About You features great acting performances from the following cast: 1.) Heath Ledger (Patrick Verona) 2.) Julia Stiles (Kat Stratford) 3.) Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cameron) 4.) Larisa Oleynik (Bianca Stratford) 5.) David Krumholtz (Michael) 6.) Andrew Keegan (Joey) 7.) Gabrielle Union (Chastity) 8.) Larry Miller (Mr. Stratford) 9.) Susan May Pratt (Mandella) 10.) Daryl Mitchell (Mr. Morgan)
I liked the film's positive portrayal of high school life complete with the parties, cliques, and dating here even though it was released in the 1990s, and the fad styles (i.e., the riot grrl music) are great as well. And I'm also surprised that the film was set in Seattle as well - which is perfect for the setting due to some '90s fads originating there. The late Australian-born Heath Ledger's Pat character spoke in his Australian accent very well, and his scene where he serenaded at the stadium just to impress Kat was so outstanding and memorable. (Interestingly, 10 Things was just the start of Heath's fast, short film career a year before the 2000 US presidential election, but it would never outlast the Bush Administration.) Ms. Oleynik, one of my favorite actresses, played such a fine princess role whilst Ms. Stiles was an opposite that I would find as feminist. I'm glad to have watched yet another great teen romantic comedy that will keep me awake all night. Go ahead and check out 10 Things I Hate About You - you'll enjoy it.
In everyone's life there is a moment. High school footballer Stefan Djordjevic discovers that winning a college scholarship is the only way out of the life in the blast furnaces of his bleak Pennsylvania hometown. Even his coach dreams of parlaying a winning team into a college job far away from this graveyard of the American Dream. But it's not long before the two virtually ruin each other's chances for escape and their door to the future starts to close. They have everything in stake, and they can't afford to lose.
Directed by Michael Chapman, All The Right Moves features great acting performances from the following cast: 1.) Tom Cruise (Stefan Djordjevic) 2.) Craig T. Nelson (Coach Nickerson) 3.) Lea Thompson (Lisa) 4.) Chris Penn (Brian Riley)
Okay, I know it sounds crazy that only 39% of Flixster users and 53% of Rotten Tomatoes critics favored this featured film title, with the rest of them not liking it for some reason, but I don't find anything wrong with it at all. All The Right Moves is a great teen sports drama of facing dilemmas regarding those with their hopeful futures after their team loses an important game. It also has a good synth-driven soundtrack that fit with the scenery with meaning through lyric and music. CTN does his Nickerson character with a personality so rigid as he conflicts with Djordjevic throughout and that it would take a long time until he finally agrees to his request. Tom - whose Risky Business also came out in the same year - here plays the good-kid type who has to play by his own rules and when he pairs up with Lea T. they sure make a gorgeous couple. With all things mentioned I can say that this movie will help you play by the ball in life.
"It's the skating isn't it? It's that insane disco music thing!" After running away from her disapproving, tightly wound Beverly Hills parents, Terry Barkley heads to funky Venice Beach where she meets skater Bobby James. The duo decide to compete as a team in the local roller boogie contest, but before they can skate to the disco beat, they must stop an unscrupulous businessman from shutting down the rink. It's love on wheels. Directed by Mark L. Lester, Roller Boogie was released on December 21, 1979 to cash into the roller disco craze around the same time when disco as both a fashion look and music style was at its peak. I remember seeing the movie for the first time on television seven years ago but didn't get to the end of it; today I had watched it again to finish what I was enjoying as one of the cheesiest movies of all time, yet I enjoyed it and liked it for its retroactive value. I like disco music, and with a nicely composed soundtrack of songs to listen to in any of its featured scenes I would dance to it as if I was part of the fad. It does have its share of momentous sequences set along with its musical rhythm while its storyline is fully understandable. As for the acting performances they were at its greatness, with Linda Blair playing the rich girl and real-life skater Jim Bray playing the hunky Bobby; both of them looked perfect together as a not only a romantic couple but also a dancing one.
Overall, I can say that as one of the few persons in the younger generation I liked Roller Boogie as a great musical movie that shines. As a title released in the late '70s those who were around during the movie's released might rediscover this, and those who haven't seen it yet it would be checking out.
"You can be anywhere where when your life begins. You meet the right person and anything is possible." When it's real and when it's right, don't let anything stand in your way. Carlos is a poor Latino with big dreams as he falls hard for Nicole, the troubled daughter of a congressman from the affluent neighborhood. Their innocent flirtations quickly develop into passionate love, but will they stay together despite the self-destructive behavior and objections from their families? I first heard of the movie when it came out on June 28, 2001 and was only drawn to Kirsten Dunst, a favorite blonde actress that I liked at the moment. But I didn't really see it until recently, and it showed a perfect, realistic portrayal of interracial romance set against a rough urban background. Dunst and her costar Jay Hernandez done a really great performance as a couple together onscreen, and though they may have different personalities their love is at least mutual. Overall, I can say that Crazy/Beautiful is a great romantic teen drama that is full of wild seduction...so what are you waiting for, eses?
Have the time of your life. It's the summer of 1963, and the idealistically innocent 17-year-old Baby is vacationing with her parents in the Catskills. While exploring the resort grounds late one evening, she is drawn to the hotel dance instructor, as experienced in life as Baby is naive. Mesmerized by the sexy beats and uninhibited movements of "dirty dancing" - Baby soon becomes Johnny's prize pupil - in dance and in love.
Directed by Emile Ardolino, Dirty Dancing features great acting performances from the following cast: 1.) Patrick Swayze (Johnny Castle) 2.) Jennifer Grey (Baby Houseman) 3.) Cynthia Rhodes (Penny Johnson) 4.) Jerry Orbach (Jake Houseman)
Until recently, I once thought Dirty Dancing would tire me out during viewing but even after seeing it twice I now it found it great for the entertaining music. And I had no idea what's with the movie title...I now learned it's referring to the sensual dancing style, like the tango. The memorable ending scene entertained me with the theme song, "I've Had The Time Of My Life", that's accompanied by the dancing. I knew both Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey did their great acting/dancing performances here. As a release from my birth year, 1987, I see that this is a fun chick flick to watch.
When you can live forever what do you live for? Nothing will be same but forever begins now. When Bella Swan moves with her father from Arizona to Forks, Washington, she wasn't expecting out of the ordinary to happen until she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen at her new high school. As they both fall passionately in love, Bella discovers that Edward is hiding the secret that he is an immortal vampire, but his blood-thirsty needs could bite her momentarily even though he and his family only drink blood from animals on moral grounds. Meanwhile, a coven of vampires catch the couple's scent when they search for Bella and hunt her for sport.
"What if I'm not the hero, what if I'm the bad guy?" Most vampires often fall into the latter category but while his skin is usually pale and ice cold Edward Cullen isn't like any other vampire I've faced on the screen: He is impossibly fast and strong, and he sparkles in the sunlight?! Vampires are actually allergic to sunlight, but I think how Ed reacts to it does work; I'm not sure about garlic, crosses, or holy water, though. I understand how many critics and audiences reacted to the misuse of the traditional vampire lore and the confused romance subplot, but I think it's just that they're not ready for something new in entertainment. In the teen pop culture where sex is in the norm Twilight looks to be a healthy alternative to Gossip Girl and doesn't go way beyond innocent kissing, given to the strict Mormon background of the best-selling author Stephenie Meyer. With the coupling of RPattz and KStew along with a wonderful cast it's like the Brat Pack doing a Titanic-sized chick flick in a horror fantasy setting that drew huge crowds of fan-girls going crazy for the romantic moments. You see, I can say that I liked Twilight for the action, the drama, and the romance, so if I hear another word from the critics who are trashing it, then I'm gonna bite them with my fangs that they'll hurt really bad.
