Foreign Movies that I've seen.

WOW!!!!.....Intelligent, clever,original and it's hard not to have your eyes glued to the screen. Instant classic. Just like to add that this proves you can have a high death count WITHOUT loads of blood and gore. This is classed as a 'supernatural horror' but the 'horror' is more drama then horrible images.
A refreshing change from the usual bloodbaths that splatter our screens.

I really enjoyed Amelie....and loved the way all the loose ends were tied up at the end. The photo booth story was class!

I didn't find the film slow at all.....A beautifull moving experience. I 'welled up' a few times lol. In a way the saddest part was seeing that Zhao Di grew old and became an old woman (the innocent sweet smiling face gone forever....well not quite). I would have liked to actually see them get married...the colour portion of the film flew passed too quickly. Defenatley a 'Keeper' - One to see again and again. I can't explain how emotional this film makes me....i've never experenced such...i don't know! I felt like i was feeling everything she felt....her facial expressions related a million words in a micro second. I was in the film....not a film....an encharnted experience which brings a lump to my throat just reading the reviews!

Usually i find cricket SO Boring.....but rather like Baseball in 'The Natural' this is a must see film! Never a fan of Bollywood films before (too much singing and dancing.....even if it is part of telling the story) BUT there's no denying LAGAAN is one if not the best entertainment to come out of Indian cinema. What i liked was the amount of different characters and their individual stories which made you side with their cause. The story was well told, and there was a nice build up of tension even before the match started. Basically it's about a bet that can't be refused....if the Indians win the cricket match against the British, then they will pay no taxes for three years......but if they lose....they have to pay thriple the amount they are already paying. This tax is called LAGAAN and the village people are already struggling to pay the normal amount of tax. Bhuvan is tricked into taking up the wager....even though the Indians haven't played cricket before. The nasty bad guy Captain Russelll has staked his reputation on the British winning....
There are some Bollywood style songs and dances here which i must admit i skipped over to get back to the 'action' but most of those which i did watch actually did add to the feel of the occassion and lent more detail to the story.
P.s. LAGAAN is at number 14 on the BBC's top 50 films to see before you die.

Although a half hour too long....i have to have this in my top twenty. Any film that you've seen hundreds of time is worth it's weight in gold. The music score on all 3 films is legendary, and Eastwood, well.....coolest dude ever.

When you consider what the film is actually about - (farming, water and greed) - It's quite surprising that it's ranked higher than a lot of action blockbusters! But it richly deserves it's place as one of the best French films ever made. Not just pretty to look at (over and over again ) but a great story with excellent acting.

Great performance from Gerard Depardieu and all involved.

Jean De Florette part 2.

A better and more complex story than 'A Fistfull of Dollars'. Not as long or drawn out as 'The Good, the bad and the Ugly' but also maybe not quite as Epic.
One of the best Trilogys ever made. The music alone deserves an oscar.
The man with no name is a classic anti hero.

Uncanny. You'll believe you are actually watching the downfall of Adholf Hitler.

I think it's best to watch this straight after DEATH NOTE as it's a continuation of the story. The pacing is slow like the first film....These aren't action movies....more like a battle of wits. I was worried that the ending might mean that these two films wouldn't be re-watchable.....but thankfully that isn't the case. The downside of 'Death Note The Last Name' is the long isolation sequence....like the Tape monitering in the first film....I feel this was a little drawn out. Great films but nowhere near perfect so no five stars. However Great characters....and i want Misa phone number.

Aamir Khan is a frigging Genius! I was enjoying the movie.....but wondering when the Legendary Aamir Khan was going to appear (1 hour 10 mins in).....Wow that was some entrance! Both he and the boy deserve credit for their performances. There are songs.....but refreshingly they all sound different, according to what mood and what's happening in the film. Also the film continues while these songs play out, so they relate to what's happening as much as the pictures do. I'm not sure if the title in English is 'Every Child Is Special' or ' Like Stars On Earth' - It doesn't really matter. What matters is this is one of those 'experience' films.....the type that goes far beyond your average entertaining movie. This has heart and emotion.....and the message is a strong one. There's a lot of invention and imagination - shown through animation and painting....and of course, there's always hope and understanding. And Aamir's first time as Director as well as his usual Producer/ Star roles. After seeing this a few times i'm still wet with emotion....going to bump this up to 4 stars (Great).....because of the last hour.

Violent.... yes, but FUN. Some gruesome deaths. I guess the shock factor is more to do with the fact these are kids ( I won't say school kids because the whole point is that hardly anyone goes to school anymore!). The truth is there is a lot of black humor which works really well. The version i saw was 150 minutes not 154....or 109 as stated on the cover. So i don't know if any scenes were shortened, it never seemed so. The pacing was good. The picture was dark for the first half hour (due to it being night of course), although the lighting could have been a little lighter. I really enjoyed the film. It wasn't the usual gangster revenge blood bath, these were mainly KIDS who had played truant from school. I thought it was acted ok, and there wasn't a dull moment. In fact, the direction was very good, successfully blending in some kids stories in talk or flashbacks, and doing so without losing the momentum of the film. I thought the ending was a nice surprise. Yeah, great movie. One to think - What would i do in that situation? One more thing....the music. The classical bits really showed how absurd the 'war' was....You have this beautiful delicate music in some of the calmer moments. Nice touch!

Right from the beginning you're on the side of the Hitman! Jean Reno and Natalie Portman are thrown together in an unusual relationship which helps the film evolve into a very special piece of entertainment.

Epic.. I liked the way the action scenes were long and exciting, rather than long winded and dull build ups. The story flowed well, and the ending was fitting if not a bit sad. Awful trailer.....don't be put off! Out of all the Asian battle films this is my favourite. Beautiful music score. Forget Red Cliff.....this has more passion and better characters.

One of the most remarkable films i've ever seen. It builds and builds in tension and character study right up to the bitter end. It's not an action film BUT saying that there are two sword fighting scenes in this film which are the best i've ever seen. There's some bloody and quite brutal quick scenes (but i never had to look away. Nothing shocking by todays standards i guess). The party talking point would be that the King is gay.....but i'll stress this isn't a 'gay' film. On the contray....The King loves his bodyguard....but most of the story is about the bodyguard (Chief)
loving the Queen (quite frantically actually!). And this is where people forget about the stunning cinematics....the rising tensions.....the great story and marvellous acting......And instead they concerntrate on the SEX. Well.....The truth is that the bodyguard was brought up his entire life to be homosexual.....BUT the King needs an heir to his throne.....and as he can't do the business himself.....he gets his most trusted man to do it for him (with the Queen that is!).....We assume that the King has bedded this man (Thank the Lord that's not shown!)....and therefore he believes 'the act' of making a child would be as passionless as it is when he is with his wife. WRONG.
The man's first encounter with a woman (sorry Royal Lady) is something that surprises him because he enjoys. Now then....The sex scenes.....are ALL between a man and a Queen....oops, better say, man and woman! LOL Unfortuately these sex scenes do go on a bit! Is it necessary? Well, maybe not except for one occassion.(No spoilers here). Let face it....This is a 5 star movie that loses a star because of these scenes where they are approaching soft porn! It is too much, too long....BUT it DOES help you realise that the Bodyguard loves the Queen etc. So, summing up. A grand story with stunning visuals, well acted, with some breathtaking swordfights, (also a bit made for television in places....but that's because of a lot of facial close ups)....And all in all, one of the best and most extraordinary films i've seen. Oh, there is one gay kiss so don't watch it with your mother.....

When you look at the COVER you think 'why is this so highly rated'? When you see the FILM you completely understand. And i have to say that whatever crossovers of genre this is.....it really worked. It had more tension than any Hitchcock film.....It wasn't over gross (which spoils so many movies).....and it had a story with interesting characters which and who kept revealing new depths right up to the ending. I'm not a fan of the bizarre, but this film worked so well on so many levels.

I do think my daughter would find this one interesting. Slightly different tastes.prefer different endings to films :)
....one worth seeing.

Not just a visual masterpiece...A beautiful looking film with an equally beautiful told story that captivated me throughout. As it progresses you really feel for the lovers....This film has all the passion, drama and emotion that 'Untold Scandal' (set at the same period) lacked....Did the critics all watch the other film and didn't bother watching this because they thought it was more of the same? There are a lot of half naked ladies, and some sexy scenes which might put off or shock some people....These are conveying what it was like to live in that period of time. I thought sometimes these scenes went a little too far (the two girls on stage etc) BUT, the rest of the film is about romance, deceit and intrigue....and of course painting. I wish this was more widely available - It was a hard film to find with English subtitles but it's greatness was worth the trouble.

I can't remember the last time i had so much FUN enjoying a martial arts COMEDY..it's Fun Fun Fun.....Lighthearted and funny...I didn't want it to end. One of the key factors for me is Min-a Shin (the leading lady) - unlike the bossy drunk of 'My Sassy Girl' (very good film) and unlike the almost emotionless girl in 'Cyborg She' (Another good one)....THIS girl is bubbly to the extent that it almost makes me smile. Kwan Jae-Young doesn't make BAD movies. This is my 5th look at his work, and i'm pleased to say i love all of them. And guess what? Yes, it's different again! If you want Fun....well you can't go wrong with 'My Mighty Princess'. Look out for the same driver in the car, the taxi, the bus.....LOL Oh....and even the 'flying' bits are ok.....because it's a comedy. There are some serious parts of course. Nothing is straightforward!

An emotional rollercoller! A Great Great French film ( Belguim director.)

A MUST SEE!!! Can't agree with the reviewer about FORREST GUMP and RAIN MAN. I love those films as well.

It's hardly fair to keep compering 'Ghajini' with Christopher Nolan's 'Memento'. Apart from the only remembering the last 15 minutes, the body heavily tattooed with reminders for revenge, the constant taking of photos to remember, this is where the comparisons stop. Sounds a lot but it just isn't. For a start, i didn't enjoy 'Memento' at all (the character was bland and unlikable, and i didn't care what happened to him...) but that's enough about that film. 'Ghajini' is a very different kind of film. It begins seriously, explaining what has happened to Sanjay Singhania - How he has lost his memory and how he deals with only remembering the last 15 minutes. After some action and getting to understand how he's feeling, we are transported back to before the 'accident' happened. This is after 30 minutes, and i was wondering whether my interest for a back story was going to be enough for me to care or continue. I needn't have worried - it's very clever how we are given a complete change of story, introduction of a new main character, and a romantic comedy feel to replace the grim nightmarish start. And it still kept me interested! Add a few story songs just to make you remember it's Bollywood.....not forgetting a kind of fun case of mistaken identity....and you realize this i nothing like 'Memento'....it's sheer diversity and changing moods and colour are much more fun. The best way to watch 'Ghajini' is to go with the flow....don't pretend to be watching the other film mentioned - It's not confusing to the viewer....it's a boy meets girl....with only a secondary story of madman out for revenge. Remember that for more than 15 minutes and you'll really enjoy this very good movie. BTW - halfway through the film we are back to being serious and back to the future of not remembering....somehow it all works. There's tension, drama and danger....and Aamir is brilliant as usual.

CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER is His best film that i've seen.
A beautifully crafted Palace sets the tone for this story.
Not only is every scene beautifull, but the slow build up and character study makes you appreciate the gravity of the situations. This is a hundred times better than CROUCHING TIGER....which was just plain silly and not as perfectly visional as this.
COTGF is still not a Great film, but for a soap opera with an amazing battle added at the end it's well worth seeing.

It's actually about blindness rather than sword fighting, but it's beautifully done. Although slow paced, the film is never boring, and the few characters are all fleshed out well. I really enjoyed it even though the settings were limited and there was no flashy cgi or special effects. Just a good story that let you in and made you feel one of the family.

It's a haunting tale with gorgeous colours and an interesting mysterious story. I loved the look and the feel of this movie, It was bright yet dreamy, surreal yet not o.t.t. and the children were all brilliant actors. There's an uneasy creepiness which was cleverly transmitted to the viewer.....which proves you don't have to have pitch black scenes with flashes of gore to obtain horror. There was a sense of the 'something's not right' , and there was a lot of creative images which added to this sinister fairytale. As it's so different and hard to explain - i would recommend seeing it. I was highly impressed and really enjoyed it.

You'd be hard pushed to find a film that's better constructed than this one. I haven't seen the first one but it's definately on my 'Want to see' list now. 'I Not Stupid Too' is sharp, witty, funny, serious, fast and fascinating. It's about how parents and teachers spend so much time involved in their own problems that they don't listen to or try to understand their kids. It's a 2 hour non stop entertaining drama which shows BOTH points of views and deals with social and behaviour issues. But it goes beyond the usual skimming the surface.....and is one of the most interesting studies of human nature i have come across in a 'teen comedy' situation. As a parent who obviously was once a kid i can identify with both camps....and disagree with the harshness of the mum and dad which affects the confidence of their children who feel powerless to do anything right. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this film to people who like to ponder over what's right and wrong. What a thoughtfull, intelligent piece of highly involving entertainment! Serious issues done in a comical way but managing to convey so many messages.

I really liked this spy thriller! Fast paced action start with a build up of each character left to the middle of the film, and an action ending conclusion which didn't baffle me as much as your average spy story.

Get ready for the coolest film of 2007.....only in Japan baby. At 46 i shouldn't like this, but i do. Forget 'Fight Club' This is da film to see. Genji and friends are great teen cool cats who live to fight, and fight to live. Yet another Manga turned into live action (but is this just one for the boys?), Hard to say. What i liked about the film was that every gang had character, and there was no ripping off arms or spitting out teeth. The side stories of their friends (both Genji and Serizawa) added to the story, and the whole thing although juvenile, was well filmed with enough action and coolness to make you either root for Genji or Serizawa. It's really a movie for teenagers, and a few things don't make sense (like where's the teachers and education? Why bother turning up at all when you can walk out the gate?)
But maybe the other kids are just too scared of their leaders not to turn up!

My question would be.....this is Good, so why the awful remake in 2011?
This is a humorous silly ghost story.....i saw it in 1987, and i still rate it for it's entertainment. The leading man has an innocent look in his eyes, and does really well with the script. What's with the tongue! LOL It's a comedy with some good effects for the time. Classic build up....and what an ending. But you must watch these movies in HD with the original Cantonese to get the full benefit. Dubbed movies are just stupid, and ruin many a great picture.

Pretty damn good.....first time watch. This continues the 1987 film....with the same lovable guy. Madcap and original.....with Doctor Who monsters from the 1980's.....but still so enjoyable.

I came to this movie knowing nothing about it (sometimes that's the best way) - The first few minutes - so so....then after 5 minutes i was hooked. I'm not going to give anything away in this review because this is a must see movie. The clever script and the wtf is going to happen next, make up for the lack of different locations (although we do get a lot of flashbacks which help us to understand what's happen, and also build up the main characters). 'Welcome to the quiet room' is just a very well made drama which has you feeling for Asuka, and hoping that she makes it. As a production it's very made for television with most of the scenes filmed in a few rooms. However, the dialoge is so original, strong and interesting that you become wrapped up in her world, and the scenery doesn't matter. I thought the character studies in this film were on a par with movies like 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest'......To some people this film will be too slow and irregular, but i found it fascinating....a very good film that can be watched when you need something different.

Emotionally 5 stars from about the middle of the film......It's inspirational and moving......and by the end i was choking back tears. Seung-woo cho (who was in 'The Classic') gives an outstanding performance as an Autistic man with the brain of a 5 year old, and the heart of a winner. The film is very funny and touching...A must see movie.

Good film. Need to see it again. Refreshingly non wire work and interesting story but not in the same calibre of Musa The Warrior.

You know those films where you know where it's going......Well, this ISN'T one of them. It started off a 2 and a half star film (above average), and then proceeded to knock me off my feet. I'd spoil it if i said anything else. I'm now a fan of this director - his films all seem to take a little while to hook you in, but the experience is worth it....and fun. This is my favorite Jae-Young Kwak picture so far.

It's a revenge gangster crime movie. The first 45 minutes is pretty unexciting. Then the rest is a few notches up. I quite liked it. It wasn't really different from a thousand other blood baths. I'd rate it above average....but i'm not in a hurry to see it again. This kind of movie always makes me wish to watch something 'lighter' afterwards.

Some stunning action scenes, and the 3 main characters were good. I'd probably give this 4 stars for the action alone.....and it's fun in places. But something is missing. I liked 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' parts....It's a fun chase although not totally for filling at the end.

Ever since Clint Eastwood hit the screens as a cool dude bent on revenge, violent films have a cool dude bent on revenge....This particular dude reminded me of Keanu Reeves (and that was before he cut his hair and actually turned into said Hollywood actor). It's a good film, nothing great - The little girl stole the show, and maybe should have featured more. The memorable scene is the jump through the window - (although anyone who's seen a Jackie Chan movie will say 'Not bad, but where's the rest of the stunt?').

Swordplay in the classic style. Great fun. Watched it 4 times then my old vhs tape gave up the ghost and snapped. Daniel Auteuil is a great actor.....so versatile.....'Harry' in 'The Eighth Day' and 'Ugolin' in 'Jean de Florette'. In 'Le Bossu' he ends up holding the baby.....and there's a hunchback in it (again).
Very good film if you like The Three Musketeer type movie.....french style.

This is film making and story telling at it's very best. I was captivated. Talk about never a dull moment.....Pure entertainment. A greatly underrated film. It's a grand entertainment, intelligently written, well-researched, set in the midst of a 19th century cholera epidemic. Almost EVERY line of dialogue is interesting! How often can you say that about a film?

Ah, a weepie....and a good one too. My review?....Not a dry eye in the house. I knew something was going to happen....i never expected this. Don't read too many reviews, it will spoil the enjoyment.

OMG This director is amazing! That's three completely different films of his i've watched - 'Windstruck' 'My Sassy Girl', and this one 'The Classic'....which is the slowest and more romantic...but has some breathtaking scenes like 'The Road Home'. Loving this film....and once again i didn't think it would be anything special at the start. Love how the western music fits into some scenes. Hippy Hippy Shake dance is awesome.

This HORROR film is SO different from the usual Bollywood movies, that it's hard to know where to begin! Well.....it's a Great film. The pace is relentless (except for the three or four songs).....and it's a terrific story, visually interesting with tons of special effects.....and surprisingly bloody. I thought it might be a bit like a lightweight horror/ Bend it like Beckham.....but i was in for a nice surprise. The direction and camera work pull from a lot of genres - but it certainly has it's own unique style. It's epic in lots of places, and at the same time made for tv in others. The editing is frantic - but it blends together perfectly (unlike say the American film 'Man On Fire'. I think unique, exciting, well made, horrifying, interesting, colourful, and great characters sums up just the start of how i would praise this film. Look Out Lagaan....you have some competition!

A famous bitter sweet French love story.

Depardieu lights up the screen with his fake big nose and romantic poetry.

It's better than Romeo and Juliet. I watched this for said actor.....and the hope of some swordplay.....it turned out to be a romance (with a different)

The girl thinks her hanesome solider (Christian) is the one sending her letters from the soul, and making love to her through poetry beneath her balcony at night......but things aren't always what they appear to be.

I think the girls will enjoy this more than the blokes.....but then again i'm a bloke.....but i haven't got the words or the big nose!

Wow! What a Great picture. Couldn't tear my eyes off the screen. I wanted to watch something to replace the emptiness left after enjuring the terrible 'Pan's Labyrinth'....i thought i'd see what 'A Very Long Engagement' was like....was just going to watch the beginning, but was blown away by the story and the cinematic delights, and watched all of it, eyes glued on every blissfulll moment. Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a Genius as far as i'm concerned, director of this film AND 'Amelie'. I will now have to check out his other work. Audrey Tautou was superb too.....she actually convinced me that i would now think of her as 'Mathilde' as well as 'Amelie'. I bought this dvd second hand for a £1....and it's already a great investment. There were lots of 'browns' in this film as opposed to the red and greens of 'Amelie'....and it all worked very well.....and there were some other simualities including the fantastic photography and fast cutting editing. A true treasure of a war/ love film which shouldn't be missed if you love great cinema.

This is a MAJOR film that needs to be seen by everyone.
Min Woo leads a relatively peaceful life with his younger brother Jin Woo
until the day the soldiers go on the rampage against the citizens.
The citizens form a militia determined to protect their loved ones,
and Min-woo finds himself in the middle of it all.
These soliders are crazy.....but i just guess they're following orders. An unbelivable situation.....quite horrific. Well done. A must see film.

Soap sam it might be......but it gets better and better, and a beautiful end. Enjoyed.

Brilliant beginning....has other good moments....worth a few watches.

A bit silly near the end. Overall very good and unusual. The two time levels work very well, and weren't confusing.

The Director of 'Love and Honor' 'The Hidden Blade' and 'Twlight Samurai' changes tact here for this story set in 1940. Straight away i noticed the use of certain items that he couldn't have in his earlier period pieces (but i thought were cleverly presented at the start of this film). Namely - The newspaper, the car and the clock. All telling us about how time has changed things. Or maybe i'm just comparing and reading too much into this. Certain things haven't changed - the mother still in the same position cleaning....and the style of the film, although both the tale and the picture are darker with events happening faster. Maybe faster or quicker are the wrong description it's still at a snail's pace - This director is a brilliant storyteller and there's no need to rush. It's always been about relationships.....and this one is about the children's with their mother. The setting isn't as charming as the other films, but the story's good...I liked it. I liked the 'bowing' scene, that was humourus. Not bad when it's the director's 80th film! This was totally fascinating and absorbing. But i didn't like the ending....it's the weakest of his i've seen.

Another good samurai story.

WARRIORS OF HEAVEN AND EARTH is a good movie. It deserves a higher rating. And it's not just battles and swordfights.....great photography and story as well as surprise elements. This has a unique feel to the picture, which is what i love about asian film making. These countries are great at telling solider stories....like Frozen Flower, Musa the Warrior....I'll be looking for more.' The Warrior' being the best of these films.

Li Yilong (Tony Leung) is the town bully, known for his boorish manners and reckless attitude which have endeared him to no one. His sister Phoenix (Vicki Zhao) has a curious penchant for cross-dressing. Princess Wushuang (Faye Wong) runs away from her palace and disguises herself as a man while Emperor Zheng De (Chang Chen), her brother, leaves the palace in search of her.
If ever a film showed the difference between Chinese cinema and American....'Chinese Odyssey' sums up perfectly why foreign films have become so popular. Part rom com, part comedy, part cross dressing, and part plain silly - This is fresh and entertaining, and a must see. And don't get confused......This has nothing to do with the pretty lame 'Chinese Odyssey Part 1 Pandora's box' or part 2 'Cinderella'. Surprisingly just like the 'Chinese Ghost trilogies' there are lots of films with nearly the same title!

The build up's nice.....it's the first of the trilogy, three different stories and characters....i think the other two were better but enjoyed them all. I won't spoil the ending.....let's just say again that the other two were better.

Entertainment wise this is just what you want from an all out action-er. I decided this about halfway through when i started caring for the three different cops, and the fighting seemed to become more interesting along with the script. Maybe it should have been called 'Breaking Glass'......although that's been used before.
Anyway, this Film gets more and more exciting as it goes on. For me it's a more involving movie than 'Infernal Affairs'. The scene in the 'Mental' hospital showed the three cops different approach to questioning a suspect....and there was some unexpected humor (like when Granny walked in!) At the end of the day the fact that there are three main good guys who have varied personalities is the reason the film works so well. Looking at the reviews....How can you say it was boring! Sure it's not perfect, there are some flaws - The bus was locked etc.....But this is top drawer entertainment.

I was really enjoying this....but i must have missed something, because i just don't understand the ending. We were approaching a Great film here. This reminded me of 'Sleuth' (1972), where Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier played cat and mouse games.....'Una Pura Formality' doesn't reach that dizzy level of genius....and it hasn't lots of twists and turns. This movie is like a stage play where the tension between Depardieu and Polanski reaches high levels of fascination. Even though i watched this in ITALIAN instead of hearing the actors in their proper French (with English subs ), i was still marveling in the dialogue and sparring between the main characters. I believe the film deserves a higher rating than just Good....but that will have to do until i figure out the ending.

Found this little gem by accident when i was looking for 'Not One Less; on Youtube. Very good story about a little girl and her grandfather. Beautifully done. Couldn't believe what a bitch her aunt is....and all because she can't get pregnant. It's a very emotional human story which is played to perfection by the girl (Xiao Hua)....a rare talent. She and her grandfather have a true bond and love which has you feeling for their characters. One to find for the dvd collection.

Why such a low rating? It's more entertaining that Pulp bloody Fiction.
Ok, you have to suspend your belief in what's possible - but c'mon this is fantasy. The first half of this film is pretty amazing. Visually it's captivating, and fascinating. It does lose it's charm and the story slows, but no one can say this isn't at least a Good film. The camera work is superb, and the characters are interesting. It went down from a great film because the relentless visuals and story didn't impact as much as in the first half (maybe some people would say the money was used in the first hour) - but at times 'The Promise' has an epic feel....well worth seeing in my opinion.

Although the main fault with the film is that Mulan is obviously a girl, (which could have been disguised by make up, blood or being bald) it would be a shame if you couldn't overlook this and just enjoy a great story well told, The film gets better as it progresses... many battles are talked through in seconds and suddenly Hu Mulan has become a Genreal but. It's not too bloody or unrealilistic, and i thought the focus on the story instead of just cgi was refreshing and made me wish to see it again. Mulan just misses greatness (#4 stars) in my book because there is a special ingrediant missing from the mix (not sure what, maybe no overall legendary scene) therefore i will rate it as Very Good and will be rewatching in the future.

Some nice photography, some very made for television set pieces. The idea was good, and some of the delivery, the film has pertental but the fight scenes are pants and uninspiring. But i've already watched it twice....and it gets better. Just the fighting could have been a little longer.....if you're going to kill with just one thrust why not have twenty enemies instead of five? And some variety would be nice! Ichi takes longer to replace her blade into the walking cane than to stab her unfortunate foes.

Underestimated this before. New review. Good film with exciting action pieces and some clever spear/swords play.

Not your ordinary run of the mill love story! Pleasently surprised how involving this movie was. The girl's got deep hurt inside her, and she takes it out on the guy (Who's nuts to stick around after their first encounter). But i think her unpredictable behaviour makes him too curious to leave. There were a lot of wtf moments (the solider etc)....and although the 'hitting' was childish and a bit random, there was some humour as well as some small shocks.....which reminds me....i thought the girl on the blind date was just too fit for that to happen!

Ok, this is my 4th Kwak Jae-Young film.....and it was the hardest to rate.

Once again, this was different from the other three - ( The Classic / Windstruck / and My Sassy Girl ). There are some wtf moments.....and sudden things that happen which must be a trademark of this brilliant director. And you can not say this is just a dumb terminator rip off....this film seems like 3 films sometimes....you think it's going to be a comedy love story.....then you think it's a terminator spin off.....then you think....well i won't spoil it. I was very satisfied with the ending.....very cool. My advice would be - Please watch the other three films mentioned first. There's always a lot to admire and take in in his films....but you could never say that any of them are samey! btw - 3 stars.....GOOD Film. Oh, the last 30 minutes are VERY Good.

A love story worth seeing....well done.....and well done. It's a one watch for me....( and a chick flick i guess)....but with a strong story, good pace, and characters, i just had to give it three stars for Good. But i didn't cry.....no sirree....i'm a man.....i don't well up tears or get a lump in my throat with tears in my eyes....oh no sir no.....er....except when i watch 'The Road Home' - But don't tell anyone.

Let's face it.....it's a continuation that has the longest fight......but it lacks the freshness and whatever it was that made the first one entertaining. Maybe the fact that the school isn't involved, and this free-for-all on the streets is never broken up by the police, takes away what could have been a good story. Question is....will these guys ever grow up? This has more fighting, but it borders on the silly.....shame really. Genji is like Rocky without gloves.....but Rocky was fighting for something worthwhile.....and he won because he had heart. Genji's character has gone flat. And at no time does he show he has heart.

The story may not be realistic but unlike 'The Karate Kid' this film has a lot of heart, and isn't silly. A beaten housewife has had enough of her boxing husband, and in a fit of anger and despair challenges him to a fight in the ring! If that wasn't enough....she says it in front of the press, and the winner wins custody of their daughter. Yeah, sounds crap.....but it's not. I wasn't even tempted to go to the big fight at the end. The story shows her lost cause to great effect....we never see her even punch a punch bag! She is in no condition to fight this ruthless wife beater. Somehow the film works because of her loveless daughter and hopeless coach. Her husband will fight her with one armed strapped.....but has she taken one beating too many?

Ah! My mate Seung - woo Cho! He's fast becoming one of my fav actors. He's so funny! And an amazing actor. This picture is slow but fascinating - with wonderfully filmed shots of the Empress with Mu Myeong on the beach and in the high grass. This is a tragic true story of a Queen and her protector (who comes from a humble background)

Lol The ghost story! This film starts out with the Korean version of Matilda....after 15 minutes we get the grown up version....and the friendly guy (Seung Woo Cho - 'Marathon' and 'The Classic'. The film is very sweet, with a ton of conversations between the two old friends (most of which was informative or funny). It's just a lovely love story , slow in parts, but with enough 'ha' and 'lol' moments to make it a nice watchable film. Good stuff. p.s. I love these two characters! We spend a lot of time with just them....and it's used to great effect. They are funny, this is pretty different from the Korean films i''ve been watching, We learn so much about these people, and although the conversations are a little stagy, it somehow remains very natural and in termite.

Really enjoyed this. Nice little story which involves going back in time and trying to change your life. The film is also entitled 'Project Makeover'.....which was why i couldn't find it at first on Flixster.

Throughly enjoyed that. Good movie. It's about a girl who pretends to lose her memory after an accident.....Just a sweet little story. All these Korean light comedies are slightly different.....I was going to look for something with more meat, but i got hooked! I think that says something about the quality of Asian cinema.

Unlike most horror films ' Muoi : The Legend of the Portrait' is actually a good story as well as having some genuinely creepy moments. But it's more than that. I was impressed with the ever changing visual tone of the movie. There is creative flair in the way this picture is put together. More people should see this instead of 'The Ring', which doesn't have the depth or continuous interest which is found here. The flashback story of Muoi combines so well with the present day affairs that you don't feel puzzled or lost, but rather that they compliment each other. And not everything is as predictable as the norm. This is by far the best Asian horror film i've seen.

Fascinating movie with little words of dialogue.Makes you curious to stay till the end, but it's a one time watch just to see what happens. If i was to be highly critical, i'd say there comes a point in the film where the two main characters HAVE to speak....and they don't. Logic is thrown out of the window. People do things that just wouldn't happen in the real world. And if you find what they found in one house, then you DON'T hang around and do the cleaning! I thought it was an unusual film of good quality, that was a bit silly in places. I was wondering all possibilities as i watched this - Are they mute? Are they deaf? Are they ghosts? Is the guy nuts? Why does she like him? And what's with the obsessive cleaning disorder? How did the guy even manage to buy his motorbike when he can't utter a word? There are many questions that have no answers.....But, is it a good film? Yes. Worth seeing, and leaves you thinking of the possibilities.....

4 stories in 1.....all quite likable....Sad movie.....Good movie, If you want to feel sad. On a happier note.....stop the film before the end!

Here we have a slow burner. Once the feelings start (at least with Camile) the film starts to soar.....The coffee shop conversations with Stephane are inspired.
Love Daniel Auteuil and Emmanuelle Beart......quite a change of relationship compared with their duels in the classic 'Manon Des Sources'. Maybe too much violin play, and the film takes ages to get into.....but i'm glad i did. No one does love, or lack of it, like the French. It's a sophistication that they pull off without being boring.

After an iffy start, I liked this movie....it became interesting from about 20 minutes in - It turns into a good thriller. There's some nice suspense.... Too many co incidents though. It reminded me of the 1985 film 'The Hitcher'. The actual truck drive was very well done. Silly title for a movie....and very deceptive. Worth a go.

It's a good movie but not one i would be watching over and over again. It's suppose to feel dated - it's set in 1986, so no mobile phones or DNA. Congrats on the lack of blood and for not actually showing the girls being murdered - Quite right, this is about a criminal investigation not the latest slasher/horror. The way one policeman kicked around his suspect didn't surprise or bother me in the least - we all know that sort of thing goes on. Apart from that the film wasn't really violent. I didn't mind the ending (i won't give it away) and most of it was interesting without being anything special. The photography, especially at the beginning, gave the movie something different from the usual cop stuff - but i i didn't notice the music apart from a dramatic chase scene. All in all it's above average....although i might have been a little generous giving it a good three stars.

Good not great. Twenty years covered in 20 seconds. The music is epic....obvious fans of "For a Few Dollars More"....It works very well although it can only be heard in the final battle and on the film menu. There's enough story to cover the bloody fighting, it's just not as good as 'The Warrior MUSA'....which is how i rate all war/ solider films from now on.

A good western but i prefer the dollar trilogy. This is just too drawn out. I've nothing against a slow moving classic like this....i just think it could have been done in 90 minutes. BUT...the soundtrack is epic, so haunting and beautifull. It's one of those films that has some great 'moments'.....but isn't a great film. Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda are great but Buy the music instead lol.

Refreshing movie - nice drama. It's more about relationships than music. Would have liked to hear more Matsuyama on bass guitar, but all in all interesting story with good characters. Will watch the next one.

This is twice as good as the film 'Mongol'. It's not a fighting/battle film but an interesting story, well told with stunning visuals and strong epic feel..

What's not to like? It's sweet, with mountain scenery and a little girl as cute as a button.

If you like Die Hard or Speed....then i think you'll like this. Good stuff. Entertaining all the way through. Love the girl, she's a doll.

Jean Rochefort plays host to Johnny Hallyday in this conversational drama between two very different men. Rochefort is a good guy (he was one of the rotters in 'La Cont de Monte Cristo' ) and Hallyday is a bad man who secretly wants to escape from the lifestyle he lives. It's understanted, subtle, and French. It's slow but never boring. And it's a welcome change from the usual. I'm always worried when a film is 'thoughtful' but both actors carry the story nicely - and it's just the right length.

I didn;t know 'L' could fly......or fish....or do magic tricks! what a mess of a film.....At one point a villager says 'What's going on?'.....i'd like to know too.
'Kamui gaiden' or 'Kamui: The Lone Ninja' - is based on the popular Manga. Which might account for the rather random first twenty minutes...
( It starts off really badly, looking like a 1970's marshal arts) Then there's some silly tree jumping (Kenichi Matsuyama would have won in Death Note if he could jump/ fly like this). Then we have a very nice scene by the river side.....poor horse though.
Some of this film has great potential.... When he reaches the fishing village the story and pace take a huge turn, slowing down to fit the slow life of the villagers. Some of the scenary is stunning now (a far cry from the beginning of the film)..... and we now have a good story and pretty good film. Kenichi's fight at the end! LOL. Funny seeing him as a Ninja! This was too interesting too miss if you are a Matsuyama fan. But if you're looking for a true genius fighting film try 'Musa, The Warrior' instead.

When the 'Stray Cats' version of 'Ubangi Stomp' started playing i had to check my cd player to see if i'd left it on! But anyway, to the film....Yeah it's above ok, got silly after the couple arrived. Great idea, could have been very good. I guess it's a comedy horror murder....but there were no laughs. There was no tension either. It's worth watching for the 'what happens next' or should that be 'Who will die next'?

I need this on dvd. Just watched it In French but without english subtitles. Great fun if you loved Asterix as a child like me!

Great that he was a compassionate killer....that makes all the difference.....woman's story was interesting, and there seems to be guns that need no reload. Ending was pants....but that's what you get with these kind of films (one reason why i'm never keen to watch them). It was very entertaining (a no brainer) so i'll be genrous and give it another half star for the fast pace and action. It's better than a lot of John Woo's gangster films. The music was 'different' compared with today's heavy beat....i wouldn't have minded, but it did seem out of place. Above average shoot em up, that has half a story (better than most).

A video nasty i actually enjoyed. Very sick and gross but in a 'Shaun of the Dead' way. Twisted but with a nice little story involving a female serial killer....a Spanish horror/comedy that's worth the effort.

Had lots of potential.....the two lead characters are very likeable, and it's very sweet with some interesting scenes around the city. Well filmed - interesting how Nanae's problems at home are the root of the story, but don't figure much in our viewing - (we are like Min, and have to guess what's been going on). Everything is explained in the end though....which was nice.

It grows on you, and by the end you're left wanting more. First it's like 'who is this weird guy?'....but the acting and story are strong enough, with solid character building helped with a few short flashbacks. Tae-hyun Cha (my sassy Girl / The Host ) gives a convincing performance as the fool who waited for the girl.

i'll admit i watched this first on youtube, like it and then ordered it. And i'm glad i did because the second half of the film is completely different to the one on youtube! Maybe that's because it was going to be two films? Anyway this version was better. It's not the director's cut (which is about to be released at 3 hours 10 mins....but this version was long enough. Enjoyed. Good Swedish film ......and no fiddling wirh subtiles as automatically on.

After ten minutes we are transported into another world (Mohammad's home) - This is a beautiful film that i wasn't sure about at the beginning....but the contract of worlds is perfect. I think this is my first Iranian film, and hopefully not my last. ' Dear Mohammad, can you tell me what's over there?'.......(reply by the blind boy)........... 'Where? I want to see' - sums up this film for me. And the beautiful landscapes and haunting music.

Fantasy eh? Well Woo-Sung Jung's in it.....seems to be in all the films i've seen lately...( 'Daisy', 'A Moment to Remember', 'Musa The Warrior', The Good, the Bad and the Weird' , 'Reign of Assassins''.....Anyway 'The Restless' has quite an interesting story - which confused and fascinated at the same time. Above average story and effects. Look out for a guy who reminds me of Doctor Octopus from 'Spider-man (although i think he's a member of the chain gang).'

Ok, i saw the second film 'My Mothers Castle' first! This makes sense now!

Wonderful landscapes of Provence.

Beautiful scenery.....and French childhood memories. A charming film.

Every Korean film i watch is so random! One minute it's comedy, then deadly serious drama, then a splat of action. Seriously, you don't know what's going to happen next. The bosses motives are suspect to say the least....but as it went on it became more and more enjoyable. Yet another unique film which puts the humdrum of Hollywood to shame.

Rewatched. After the fantastic 'La Comet de Monte Cristo' and the Great 'Cyrano de Bergerac' I was probably expecting too much.
Maybe i just like the older Gerard Depardieu? But it's worth a look.
Pretty good actually.

Quite enjoyable. Obviously remade later as 'The Magnificent Seven'. Toshiro Mifune is always fun.....especially in 'Shogun'.

Not as bad as the ratings suggest.....more enjoyable that 'Crouching Tiger' or 'Warlords'.....but very confusing as the characters are all similar apart from the bald general.....He laughs like Mutley (Dick Dastardly's green mutt in the Warner Brothers cartoon 'Catch the Piegoin'!) soz for spelling.
Some nice scenes, and nice fast pace keep the interest....great photography and sword fights imagnitive. Downside would be .....The director needs to step back a few steps so that the action is more complete. Too many close ups which miss some of the action! See someone's head sliced off is ok but close up it losses the impact. Worth a watch or two.

I didn't know the story or have seen any other version of Les Miserables....so i watched this with an open mind, mainly because of Depardieu and Malkovich being the stars of the show.
Hum....enjoyed it, but not one to have on constant repeat.
It's not amazing like 'La Comet de Monte Cristo'. And It does suffer from not being in French!

This is pretty interesting and strange - it would actually spoil the story if i said too much. Starts in the mountains in the 19th century.... Jalan is the leader of a band of theives who rob the Indian travellers who pass through the mountains.....Then a mysterious woman enters the fray and bewitches him. Who she is and why she casts such a spell on him he doesn't know, but all i'll say is that immortality is involved, and travelling through time.
Really enjoyable, well made, great scenery and story.....Jalan looks like Jesus, but on reflection maybe Judas...Watch it.

Film's 3 years old with no reviews! Ok, you are missing out. When Kang Tae-Pong is in a car accident he loses some of his vision.....obviously then he meets the girl of his dreams.....and he thinks she's a Goddess. Everything seems hunky dorey untill he gets his full sight back, and the girl isn't the Madonna he thought she was. I had a few problems with this - First, the girl isn't ugly! She has crooked teeth, so what, no one's perfect. Secondly, i think she should have dumped him. Even with these minor quibbles, the film is above average and worth seeing. It's yet another take on the Beauty and the Beast - but very watchable....and no one dies in the end! Yes!

The early part of this 5 hour mini series was great....however it's unfortunate that both De Niro and Depardieu are given such boring roles. The movie seems to lose every great aspect as soon as they appear!
It goes from stunning camera work, interesting story and characters (the two young boys and master) to usual camera work, uninteresting story and boring characters. I've just seen part 1 (2 and a half hours) i'm in no hurry to see the other part now. Shame because my copy was the original Itallian version with English subtitles, and the first hour or so was brilliant.....then the director seemed to lose his way and make up the story as it went along.

Imagine you're shy. Imagine you're slow speaking and don't understand 'feelings'....even though you're kind and want everyone to be your friend. Now imagine everyone hates you, and thinks you will put a curse on them because you look like the girl in the Horror movie 'The Ring'!....This is Sawako Kuronuma.
Such a great character for a film. So different from the usual. At first i admit i was expecting some 'action' seeing as 'Kimi ni Todoke' is based on a Anime and Manga. Well, it turned out to be a damn involving school story which forced me to stay up last to see the ending! The fact that the girl speaks so softly, slowly and sincerely means that you tead to hang on her every word. I'm glad she didn't stutter - that wouldn't have worked. Some will find it a little too slow.....not i. A good story where nothing spectacular happens, although it couldn't have been done much better. Apparently (according to some reviews on other sites) All the characters were spot on in looks and exactly played out like the Anime.

It has it's moments. Good over acting in a comic book way. The intense scenes were a little drawn out but enjoyable. I guess he got what he deserved in the end.

So sad, it's better than 'saving private Ryan'....but it's just too emotionally draining and destressing.....i really struggled to get to the end. But it is an epic. If you can sit through 2 and a half hours of intense bombardment then you'll feel like you've been to hell and back.

Worth a watch.

Lovely sweet film. Reminded me of 'The American President', but this is BETTER. Time just flew watching this. Enjoyable with a few surprises and laughs. Well paced and entertaining.

I need to see it again....i wasn't as impressed as i was with films like 'Love Phobia' or 'Koizora (sky of love).

Beautiful violin music, a pleasant enough story....based on a true story. His 'father' was the most interesting character. It should have been a half hour shorter - there was too much of the story involving the lady with the coat. The phone calls were annoying and stopped the flow. Overall it's above average but too long and a one watch only.

How come no one realises she's a girl? There's no disguise, there's not even a hat or false beard.....c'mon she's fit and so obviously a girl! They didn't notice anything different when they stripped her to wash in the river?
Apart from this MASSIVE oversight....the film was ok. Sad of course.

Bollywood meets America.....with no singing and dancing! Tuba and Khan (playing the mother and father) are well acted. They bring life to this interesting story about Indians moving to America. Refreshingly there is only one incident of racialism (the letter box).....The main focus is on the life of 'Gogol'...their son.

Not a bad little film.....i never realised it rained and snowed so much in Korea!

A mixture of Mission Impossible, The Matrix and Charlie's Angels.... at least in its high tech style. Some of it i really liked, some of it i didn't. The Carpenters song 'Close To You' just got on my nerves, but the action scenes were strangely exciting. I'd probably give this 3 stars if i was a girl.....Girl power and all that. It's worth checking out when you're bored. The ending was pretty good....and i liked the way it didn't turn into 'Kill Bill' with unnecessary blood. Yeah it was entertaining.

Above average, loads of fights and battles.....boring inbetween. The film suffers from two things: We can't take it seriously, and we don't care. On the plus side i enjoyed the fighting - it's very original - without too much flying and wirework. The costumes were interesting, some great, some i hate (the shields of the enemy!) - On the minus i think that it's too light hearted, which takes away the tension and the belief that this is happening. There is no supernatural magic (which is good) but the underline failure of the movie is there's entertaining battles without the heart of a story to accompany it. All style but no substance. Female soliders make a nice change.....but this made it more comical and less credible..

The weirdest film i've ever seen. Ok it's fantasy, not my bag, but after the impressive start.....HUGH Babies and maggots.....Giant spiders and so many wtf moments. I will say that if you love fantasy....this is right up your street.
p.s. I watched this without any english subs so that did take some of the impact of the story away from me.

The girl's really cute.....it's a decent love story with dancing. Nothing spectacular.

Very interesting....very weird. It started so well. This is the story of two unique individuals. One has the power to control everyone....the other has the power to stop him. There was so much potential here that i'm surprised this movie didn't move me to give it more than above average. I just thought it was lacking something which would have turned it into a good movie. It's certainly confusing but watchable, if limited to what it might have been.

I didn't find the ritual very interesting to tell the truth. Actings fine. Story fine. I thought it would be better.

I'd love to say this was a great film....or even a good film. Truth is (see my videos) There's a great fighting scene where one warrior is outnumbered 100 to 1....That 12 minutes is priceless....And there are a few other moments too. Unfortunately the rest of the film doesn't live up to the Greatness of say LAGAAN....Most of it is set in the present, with lots of Modern Songs and dance (unlike LAGAAN ) which at least had inspired music (check that film out).....so
Magadheera just gets above average from me. Shame, from my video clip it looks like a masterpiece.

I was going to congratulate this film on the lack of blood....then three quarters of the way through....the guns came out and well the usual violent deads occured. Shame, this story of an autistic kung fu girl who reckons she's Bruce Lee, was ok if a little limited. The fights weren't very varied.....in fact she's a mule....there was only 20 times she actually used her hands, the rest were high kicks to a crunching sound. Not much of a story apart from her being autistic and watching kung fu films which she copied to collect her mom's money.

Disappointing. Gerard is great but i couldn't get interested. The beginning (street scene was brilliantly filmed with haunting action music....and i actually thought ' oh my God this is going to be soooo good....)'.but the interior scenes with plotting etc were well acted but pretty boring. Good one watch film but not great.

Above average thriller....very brutal at the start but soon settles into a more routine serial killer themed film.

A slow start which nearly put me off watching the rest.....got interesting when he received the phone call (as i went into this film blind and had no idea what it was about). The 'games' were weird - but they are explained at the end. I thought it was quite clever, although once seen the suspense is gone, and there's no interest to watch again.

Pretty standard stuff but it's at least watchable. Seriously they should go back to the Hammer Horror days or watch Dracula 1958 version.....i'm getting fed up of horrors which have a few jumps but are basically about normal people living normally till the last 10 minutes when something eventually happens. This film is one of the better Japanese horrors i've seen....but it's not great.

I think they chose the wrong actress to play suriyothai. The follow up films about King Naresuan are better and more action packed.

Has it's moments.....some funny some silly.

Bizarre. The colours and camera work are A1. Weird story. A LOT of dancing...half the film really. And then people dying.

100 years later....and obviously a different guy.....and a different everything.....the magic of 1 and 2 is gone.

I liked the setting and the quiet build up in the first half. There are a few scenes of the town viewed from above which were nice, and i was getting interested in the filmimg rather than the story. I wasn't really bothered if there wasn't much horror, things seemed to be slowly progressing....then the second half (horror bits) were quite dull. The girl never appears like on the dvd cover.....( i remember her from 'Battle Royale'), and the film lost it's charm. I would have been happy enough watching if this had continued as a drama about a lost friend....but i was disappointed by the end. It seems like it could have been a decent drama with a few things changed.

So this is 'The Banquet'......not bad but i HATE all the flying crap. I want sword fights, not ballet.

Yet another average blood and guts asian flick. Maybe that's harsh. Without all that FLYING it might have been half decent.

The guy from the newer Star Trek films was most annoying.....but all the American girls came a close second. Kenichi was cool (funny seeing him out of 'Death Note')......I thought he was the best thing about the film. Hum....average story - started brightly - lost it's way - and i didn't agree with the ending.

Pretty disappointing actually. Disjointed and not the epic i had hoped for.

If it's this slow, then it must be either fascinating, interesting or engrossing.....'Forbidden Quest' is unfortunately neither of the above. What it is, is unusual...(although painfully average in every respect.) The concept is quite straight forward, the story too.....An author discovers that writing erotic tales will sell and teams up with an artist to make the illustrations for his new porn book. There are long talking scenes (with the occasional humorous line) but there's nothing very engaging, and it's all very long winded.

Where's the story? Very un-original and not very engaging.

A huge chunk of disappointment. It started quite well, but turned into the usual flying act....and the look of the fighters is as far as the character study goes. The fights weren't even entertaing. It may not have much fighting but i prefer 'Love and Honor'....at least we get to care about the samauri in that.
And the story and setting is perfect.

I guess gangster films aren't my thing. What's with the baseball bats? I knew it would end that way.....it's what gangsters do. How about something a bit different?

As usual i go against the grain - very average movie. 'Bittersweet Life' , 'Secret Reunion' and 'Man from Nowhere' were all better than this film.
Even 'The Killers' ( which was just a long bloodbath) was more entertaining.
I keep finding such highly rated films which are so average. My problem is that i didn't gel with any of the characters....therefore i didn't care what happened to them.

It's a good idea - a postman who delivers letters to heaven. It starts interestingly enough with the girl meeting the 'angel' at the mailbox....but never really forfills it's promise to entertain with the impossible.

Only one reason to see this......Ziyi Zhang. And the imteresting thing is that her facal expressions and manner are exactly the same as in her classic next film THE ROAD HOME. Obviously she was spotted by a director in this her first film, and he wasn't watching this rather gloomy colourless film but instead saw that this girl would light up the screen in a beautifully told love story. So watch THE ROAD HOME instead!

Extremely dull and flat, very average.....watch The Myth instead.

Epic battles scenes during the opening credits.....then as dull as ditchwater.

Anyone expecting the greatness of 'Amelie' or 'A very long engagement' will be sorely disappointed. Obviously this was made long before both of those fantastic films. Visually it has the director's mark for colour, and is very ott....meant for children i think. The first few minutes looked really promising...unfortunately it was not to be.

Big disappointment. I just couldn't get into it. Even the battles lacked tension. Who's side are we suppose to be on? Hated the quick camera work, as in flashes, and the huge jumps in years at the beginning. Pointless.

The characters just didn't grab me......Watch 'Cyborg She' instead....which starts off slow but has a great ending.

Super.....last 20 minutes. The rest was ok. Not one to rush out and buy, although mildly amusing.

What a load of twaddle! How Sam Raimi could say 'This is one of the most frightening films i've ever seen' i don't know. Frighteningly bad perhaps.
There's a boy who's obviously dead....and he has a painted face.....5 very beautiful but boring women are involved in the 'story'....nothing much happens....and that's it. I was hoping for not too much ott blood....well there wasn't any, but unfortunately no excitement or scares either.

It's ok, could have been better, and there's no reply factor.

Too crazy. Too silly. The build up to the final is ok.....but the actually 'game' is a complete let down - There's no soccer skills, just special effects. Everytime someone hits the ball strange things happen, some mildly amusing, others plain daft. Wouldn't watch again.

Left me very disappointed. It just wasn't that interesting - average i would say. I was giving this director another chance as i really didn't like the silly flying/ ballet of 'Crouching Tiger'. On the plus side - good lead performances and some nice period shots and atmosphere. The big negative is that although not boring, the film has fits and starts and never really keeps the interest. One of the problems is the 4 years ago, 3 years ago etc....and after 2 and a half hours it would have been nice to have a memorable ending. Also the slow start works well (the women around the table with some nice dialogue) but the pace remained tediously slow and lacked any excitement. Still it's better than most Hollywood junk.....but not half as good as some reviewers are saying. Nice costumes but the story is pretty forgettable. The sex scenes were needed to give the film some excitement....giving the appearance that something was happening. I can see it working in a book, but a film? Nah, overrated but not bad.

Different....odd. I wouldn't watch it again. I hate the 'teeth' bits. Started ok, and had some interesting ideas....i struggled to stay focussed to the bitter end.

Got bored.

I Like Antonio Banderas.....but this film was only mildly entertaining.
Problem is that just shooting people (with cool moves etc) isn't enough without an engaging story. This bloodfest reminded me of another overrated disgusting film.....pulp fiction. NO SOUL i believe are the words i'm looking for.
It will appeal to those fans of 'Dust to dawn'.....
My advice....watch LEON instead to see how a real film works.....

By the Director of 'The Host'.....but you wouldn't know it. I thought the first half was plain boring.

Apart from Emmanuelle Beart's body this is pretty standard stuff. There must be better 'painting' films out there. I thought the drawings were unspectacular....even watching how they were done from 'scratch' (laetrile).
I wanted a 'wow' moment when the paintings were finished.....and there wasn't one. Also, i didn't fall memorized by the scene - It just could have been done with more awkwardness, and more tension. Sorry, not blown away by this.

Nice idea....but i prefer 'Castaway'.

This film has the most wonderful vietnam scenery for the first ten minutes.....shame the rest of the movie didn't live up to the greatness it promised.

Another wasted opportunity for a good Time travelling tale. It picks up towards the end.....when i've lost interest.

No thanks, i'll stick with INCHI.....this is just blood for the sake of it......flying limbs cut off does not made a good movie. If you liked Kill Bill then you'd like this.....but i didn't.

Interesting film from 1975. Some of the action is pretty good. I wasn't keen on a number of things....like most Hindi films it tries to do too much (when you consider that this is the 1970s....and that Hollywood started doing genre mixing only in the last 15 years....you could say it is ahead of it's time). The train part at the beginning was good - then the music and comedy ruined the atmosphere for me. Watch 'Lagaan' or 'Stars On Earth' to see how far Bollywood has come since then.

The idea wasn't bad.....but the movie was stale and unexciting.

What a let down! I thought this was a great idea but all it is is a series of people being interviewed for a week after they have died. And they just sit at a boring table in a boring room with a boring interviewer. There's no imagination about anything except the great idea in the first place. Where's the tension? Where's the fire? Why doesn't anyone ask where they move on to next? Where is this building? Why don't they just leave? Why didn't they make a better film? Why do so many people like this? Are they on drugs? LOL

It's pretty....well over gaudy. Nothing happens....too bad. It's not enough to look good. Watch 'Portrait of a Beauty' (a classic) to see where they went so wrong.

Check out the trailer.....notice something? Yeah, it's all set at night.....in the dark for one and a half hours. I couldn't finish it - I watched the 1987 classic 'A Chinese Ghost Story' instead. This film was below par.

The trailer and the reviews made this interesting enough to buy. BIG MISTAKE. I didn't care for any of the characters and the whole thing just wasn't worth bothering about. Therefore the violent parts had no effect on me because the film was emotionless. Some people are saying it's the best film they've seen.....well they can't have seen many.BTW some one on amazon said this was more brutal than 'The passion of the Christ'.......WHAT?
There are the usually few bloody moments you always get in a modern war film....but come on! That film is relentless in pain and horror....numbingly so much of it.

I never made it to the actually wedding.....i was bored stiff by 10 minutes, gave up after 30. The characters are lifeless and unlikable, the settings are the same - outside the house a car pulls up.....outside the house another car pulls up.....inside the house everyone sits down for dinner.....a woman has a fag in the toilet (highlight of the film).....Where is the 'Vibrant, refreshing and very enjoyable' it stated on the dvd cover? And 'Very funny, colourful and moving' ? I expect it all comes later. If i can't relate or get engrossed into a movie by the half hour stage, then it's not worth watching the rest because the director could have edited better. The only reason i'm bothering to rate this is because it's so highly rated everywhere on the net. I wanted to like it so much but it's just drab. Try 'Bend it Like Beckham', 'Lagaan' 'Stars On Earth', Arundhati or 'The Namesake' - instead.

The ultimate Flying movie.....I was wondering why the bad guy rode a horse....surely all Asians can fly......Then there was the simple answer.....The wagon and guards suddenly took off and started running through the tops of trees. I didn't finish this....movie.

No soul. A computer game hit the buttons. Landscape comic book....unreal, uninteresting. cgi garbage.

I don't think i've yawned so much. Don't bother.

Probably one of the most boring films ever. Only the last 10 minutes had anything mildly interesting.

She's perfect....then she decides to ruin her hair for a date. She's blind but fun, he's fascinated by her blindness. But i really can't help but be pissed off with what she did to her hair.....it's really bugging me. And why does she live at the top of all those stairs? That's thoughtless of the director! Nevertheless....it still has a certain romantic charm.

In it's own way a must see movie. Glad i didn't read the description on here first (which gives too much away). Very interesting film. a REVENGE story with a difference. I liked the way we got to view both sides - the victim's mother and the murderer. Def worth a visit. Downside is the MTV like interruptions....but overall a damn good experience, and different from the predictable story line you get in other countries. 'Just Kidding'....

I'm guessing this is the film which is also entitled 'MASKA'.....Ram and Hansika Motwani being the stars. It's a love triangle musical where our hero lies and cheats and tells stories about a girl to impress another girl. A strange fate awaits him as these made up stories start coming true. Very entertaining love comedy with way too many songs. Another 3 hours worth wasting.
