My little brothers top 100 movie list

My little brother asked me to make him this list on my flixster, so this is what i did. Remember that my ratings are going to stay the same. Example: If one of my brothers movies has a low star rating, that is how I felt about it, not how my brother felt about it. My brother is 8 years old.

Avatar
Avatar" tells a story that has been told before, it is basically "Dances with Wolves" in space. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is asked to go deep into space to the planet Pandora to do a job his twin brother was supposed to do. His twin brother died shortly before he was set to go to this planet. Since Jake is his twin, he has similar genetics to his brother, he needs this so he can do the job (will explain more on this soon). Jake decides to take the job. This megacorrproation is looking to mine this planet for a valued ore. Unfortunately the biggest deposit lies underneath the home of the Navi, a ten foot tall blue skinned native tribe who has been at the brink of war with the company. The company devolved Navi bodies that humans can use. Jake's job is to gain is to gain the natives truest. But he starts to wonder if he is on the right side.

This is Sam Worthington's best performance to date. With that being said, it's still not a fantastic performance. He is good, but his performance is bland, he doesn't try to take his acting to a new level. You could say the same thing for Stephen Lang. He plays the villain, so I wanted him to really step up his acting, but he never did. Sigourney Weaver gives one of the best performances in the whole movie. The only problem is she isn't in the movie for that long, so she doesn't have that much screen time. The other great performance comes from Zoe Saldana, she is doing the motion capture the whole time, and she nails it. Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, and Joel David Moore do fine in their roles as well.

What hinders "Avatar" in almost every aspect of the movie is the script. The script is poorly written. It's not gut wrenching bad, but it's pretty much mediocre dialog for the entire movie. The actors suffer from this because however good the actor, it's hard to make cheesy dialog come out good. The way they explain all the connections that the Navi have with the forest is all cliched, as is mostly everything here. The script is a bunch of already used material. I wish James Cameron had gotten someone else to write the script other than himself, he just isn't the best writer. With an epic like this, it would have helped to have better dialog than it has.

Now I said James Cameron wasn't a good writer, but he is a good director (not an outstanding director, but a good one none the less).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2
3 and a half stars

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. After seven previous movies reaching back an entire decade the Harry Potter series has reached a solid and satisfying end. It was such a good idea to split the last book into to movies. If you are a big fan of the books as I am, you could arguably say that all the movies could have been made into two parts. As good as that might have been, that would have been far to many movies. The final book however has so much in it that one movie could not have done it proper justice. Before going to see the movie I would pop Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 in your DVD player, because if you are not up to speed on what is happening you will be completely lost. I saw the first part the same day I went to go and see the second part. I kind of wish that they had gone with a 4 and a half hour epic. I imagine that most people wouldn't sit through a movie that long though. Probably only die hard Harry Potter fans such as myself would sit through that.

The story picks up right where the last one ended. We open with Harry, Ron, and Hermoine at Bill and Fleur's after narrowly escaping from Malfoy Manor. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine continue searching for Horucruxes as Voldemort becomes even stronger. Voldemort has completely taken over Hogwarts and the school is desperately trying to defend themselves, even with Snape as Headmaster and Dementors everywhere in the grounds. When they discover there is a Horocrux inside the school, Harry, Ron, and Hermoine must secretly get inside the school to find and destroy it. This will be difficult considering that Snape and the Death Eaters are searching for him. If they can find a way into Hogwarts, they will have to figure out a way to defeat Voldemort once and for all. The stakes have never been higher.

These two movies are really one, and they work best as a whole. This part didn't have or need much development because the first part had already set everything up. But standing alone they are still good movies. The first part was more of a atmospheric feel. With a big bulk of it showing the isolation between the trio. This second part is more of a fast paced and action filled movie. Still, this movie is just as emotional and equally great as the first part was.

Daniel Radcliffe is great. This is the best performance he has given in the entire series. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are great as well. They have great on screen chemistry together. It has never been as strong in the other movies, but in this one they have it. We have seen the trio grow up on screen, and there acting has improved so much since the first Harry Potter movie. Matthew Lewis is also really good as Neville. Neville finally gets his moment in the sun. The Harry Potter movies have always had a strong supporting cast as well. British Legends Maggie Smith, Helena Bonham Carter, Micheal Gambon, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, and more. They never get as much screen time as the trio, and they have to share the screen with so many other British Legends. But they are all so great in there roles. Maggie Smith gets her screen time bummed up from her usual one. She shine brightly as Professor McGonagall. Helena Bonham Carter however gets her screen time deluded. She is still good, we just don't see as much of her in this one. Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes are the best out of the cast. Ralph Fiennes is a perfect Voldemort. All of his lines sound convincing, and he is just so evil. Alan Richman has been consistently good in all the Harry Potter movies. After this movie though you can look back at the greatness of his character. Snape is a very complex character, and Rickman plays him to perfection. Overall, all the actors were cast perfectly, and they were all great.

Just like the other Harry potter movies this one has a fantastic score, art direction, cinematography, costumes, and special effects. The big battle of Hogworts is really great watch. There are many other memorable scenes too. I would not see the movie in 3D. It is not that bad, but it doesn't add anything to the experience. Plus, the movie is dark for the most part and the 3D makes it even darker. The script is given proper care. For a 2 hour movie the dialog is not rushed. Well it is really a 4 and a half hour movie in two parts. Since I am such a big fan of the books, I have a few minor nitpicks here and there. But they are small ones that don't hurt the movie that much.

The Harry Potter movie have had a few directors, but I can say that David Yates is the best. He did a great job on the Harry Potter movies he did. I am sad to see the movies end. At least I can still re watch them. This movie has been compared to the last Lord of the Rings movie. If you put both parts together than it is just as good. None of the other Potter movies have gotten any Oscars, it's time they did. It deserves a best picture nomination , along with a supporting actor nomination. It also deserves one for the score, art directing, visually effects, makeup, cinematography, sound editing, and maybe director. Have to wait till the years up to see the competition. The Harry Potter series deserves many Oscars. We have really grown to love these characters. This was the proper send off to this magical series.

Back to the Future
High school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) does not have the best life in the world. He is constantly bullied by his principle at school. Lets face it, his parents are complete nerds. His dad George, is a nerdy scaredy cat, and his mom Larraine is an alcoholic, who met George through pity, when her dad hit George with a car. Marty is also criticized for his friendship with an eccentric scientist Doc (Christopher Lloyd). Doc thinks he has found out what makes time travel possible. Well he did, and the time machine works perfectly. He has also made the time machine out of a De Lorean. Just like Doc said, if your going to make a time machine out of a car, why not do it with some style. Good point Doc.

Then after a surprising event, Marty finds himself transported thirty years into the past. The year 1955 to be exact, Marty then accidentally interferes with his parents first meeting. And to top it off, his mom falls for him instead. Now he has to get his parents back back together, or he will cease to exist in the future. That will be no easy task to complete. Remember that his mom fell in love with his dad through pity, and Marty interfered with that. That wraps up the plot.

The casting was excellent. Micheal J. Fox was really good, and fits well into the role. Christopher Lloyd excels as Doc. He is really fun to watch, especially when he says his famous line, "Great Scott". The chemistry between the two actors is great, witch was very important. The movie is just really funny too. When Marty gets to the past, he is still wearing 1985 clothes. People look at his goose down jacket and ask why in the world is he wearing a life preserver. Then there's the town, it has changed a whole lot in thirty years. The movie takes advantage of that.

A good example is when Marty wants to order a drink, he wants to order a Pepsi free. The guy then tells him if he wants a Pepsi he has to pay for it. There are many little things like that, and deeper one's as well. It is just really fun watching Marty trying to get his parents back together when his mom has fallen for him instead of hid dad. Overall, the script is well done.

One other good thing was the soundtrack, it was amazing. Robert Zemeckis did a fine job of directing and co-writing. Back to The Future is one of his best movies. This movie has become a classic, that is for good reason. A great thing is that you can watch this movie over and over again. It just doesn't ever get old. Nothing in the adventure comedy genre could ever top this in the 1980s. It still holds up very well in the future. This movie just works on a lot of levels, it's smart, it's funny, and most importantly it's a blast to watch.

Cars 2
This is the second Pixar that has spawn a squeal. Toy Story being the first one that has. I am really glad they decided to go a head and make a Cars 2. Cars was considered the worst Pixar. I strongly disagree. It wasn't the best, but I hate it when people talk bad about Cars. I really enjoyed Cars, but in this case the sequel is actually better than the original. That is pretty rare. Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) take there friendship to some exciting new places.

They head overseas for Lightning to compete in the first ever World Grand Prix to determine the worlds fastest car. The race lets them go to England, France, Italy and Japan. Mater gets caught in his own adventure, international espionage. He is then involved in a top secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and the stunning spy in training Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer). How does Mater get involved in all of this?

They mistake Mater's carelessness for a brilliant and ingenious disguise. There are two parts of the movie, Lightning's big racing event, and Mater's secret spy mission. You know what he has to do, catch the bad guy. Lightning was the main character in the first Cars, but here he plays more of a supporting role in this one. Mater gets the spotlight in this one. I really love the James Bond like plot they used. I thought it was really cool. Kids will just really love this movie. The smart script also lets the adults or anyone else love it as well. That is always the best thing about the Pixar movies. Everyone can enjoy them, young or old.

The voice acting is great. Owen Wilson and Larry The Cable Guy both give great voice performances. Micheal Caine and Emily Mortimer were perfectly cast as the voices of the two British spies. The best thing is the wonderful animation, it is just good to look at. The one bad thing was the 3D, it was a complete waste of money. That is not entirely there fault, the only movie that has done 3D good was Avatar. James Cameron just new what he was doing with 3D. Besides that, most movies don't know how to use it, or are just using it to make even more money. They don't care if it's crappy.

The movie was directed very well, I am glad John Lasseter, who directed the first Cars stayed on and directed this one two. Sometimes you can't believe your luck when a movie starts to unfold. I wasn't to sure that this movie was going to turn out as great as I hoped from the first two scenes in the movie. It could have gone many different ways. As it unfolds you start to see a really excellent movie. Pixar has delivered yet another great movie.

Don't agree with all of his choices, but Star War original trilogy and Back to the Future trilogy is up here, so I can't complain.
