Alien 1979,  R)

Quarantine 2008,  R)
Quarantine
The scariest film i've seen as yet. I came in to the theatre knowing virtually nothing about it(I hadn't heard of rec) and left with absolute anxiety. It builds the story with flawless pacing, the tension gradually building. The final scenes are relentless, leaving you no time to recover before it hits you with another scare. This is a film you'll need to watch in the cinema or with an excellent home theatre system. 9.5/10

[Rec] 2007,  R)
[Rec]
A true modern classic. The relentless pace keeps the scares coming faster than the viewer can recover. Never letting up, the conclusion of REC is truly terrifying. Despite a simple premise REC is certainly worthy of mention along with classics such as The Exorcist or Psycho. 8.5/10

Trick 'R Treat is as good as horror anthologies come. The storyline is excellently intertwined between all the main characters, and Sam is such an iconic figure. This is definitely a must see film for anyone, even those who aren't horror fans. 8.7/10

Pan's Labyrinth
It feels like Spain is releasing more than its fair share of horror, much of it coming from this man Guillermo del Toro, who in Pan's Labyrinth probably reaches his pinnacle in film. Mixing horror with drama, action and fantasy, Pan's Labyrinth can please on many levels. Look out for eye-hands(that's what I call him). 8.0/10

I love movies like this. Philosophical parodoxes are great and truly work well with the horror genre. This is one i would definately reccommed. It starts slow, but becomes quite an interesting dilemma. 7.4/10

The Fly
One of the best horrors of the 80's. Plays out not entirely as a horror film, but more of a tragedy. 7.4/10

The Strangers 2008,  R)
The Strangers
The Strangers is a pretty awesome home invasion horror, which is certainly NOT a slasher. Using suspense and tension to build the atmosphere, slasher devices are utilised without the actual gore to follow. The man in the mask is one of the coolest antagonists I can think of! 7.3/10
