9	Suburbia 1983, R) I just got done watching this beautiful masterpiece of a film and all I can say is wow. I'm just in awe of how real and charming this was right down to the very end. This film shows gives you a realistic view of how teenage punks squatted together in old run down houses in california during the early to mid 80s. Brilliantly directed by Penelope Spheeris, she adds her touch to whatever movie she presents and this was one of her earliest works. No the acting or dialog is not perfect, yes some of it can seem alittle silly at times. That's what makes this movie so good is because it feels like actual real punks that were plucked off the streets and told to act in front of the camera. The only person I recognized during this whole movie was Flea from the Red Hot Chili peppers and that's about it, he only had a few scenes which was good because I'm not a huge fan of him as an actor. Everyone else did a fantastic job being first time actors. I thought the little kid punk did a great job and was an excellent plot device that plays to greater effect at the end of the movie. The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars was because there were a few scenes that didn't seem to go anywhere and kinda just wondered about instead of getting to the point. Another negative I'm sorry to say were the 4 minute punk performances by 3 different bands that really didn't add that much to the movie. If they had bits and pieces of songs throughout the movie that would have been better, but it feels like something really dramatic or funny will happen with the characters then they break away to focus on a punk band for 4 or 5 minutes, and that to me was a shame. I really liked the characters and wanted to see them get into more mischief or show them having more interactions with the towns people and each other. I felt like those punk performances even though somewhat nice weren't something that needed to be a focus for that long while the characters in the movie just sat and watched. That being said I loved the rest of the movie! I sorta wondered what it would be like to live in a big empty run down house, with a bunch of punks almost like a big hippie commune in a way but with less hair. I'd say if you're a big fan of punk music like me especially 80s classic punk and like raw realistic 80s drama's that aren't perfect then this would be something for you.

12	Homegrown 1998, R) Always wanted to see this when I saw it in video stores years ago and finally when I saw it, it wasn't what I expected exactly but it was pretty damn good for what it was.It was a Nice mix of action,comedy,drama and suspense. Billy Bob Thornton was good here and didn't really hijack this movie like he usually does in ensemble pieces. I think Hank Azaria really showed off his acting chops in this and Ryan Phillippe was more or less just a set piece for women to rub one out to. Kelly Lynch was bad ass as the girlfriend of the drug boss, and lover of the hired help. Great cameos from Bon Jovi,John Lithgow,Ted Danson and Jamie Lee Curtis round out the film. I was pleasantly surprised how the film turned out, but if you're someone who isn't a fan of serious themed suspense comedy... that has a slightly dark edge then you need to look elsewhere. If you like out there comedy suspense dramas like this... then this film will hit your sweet spot.

32	Kiss Me Again 2006, R) A very good sexy low budget comedy drama. I discovered this by accident when a friend left some movies over my house and I got bored and went through them and didn't expect anything when I put this in. This is a perfect movie for guys to watch with their girlfriends because me being a guy kinda dug this. Its not too chick flicky and it doesn't idealize the typical one guy one girl cliche that is played out by this point. It looks at relationships the way they really are...complex and painful when they finally end. It may not have the biggest budget or the big name stars like other romantic comedies have but this is worth a watch and most guys will like this more than other movies of this kind. What straight guy out there wouldn't love a movie about a love triangle that involves one guy and two gorgeous women? One with a spanish accent. The side story with Darrel Hammond and Fred Armisen from SNL is ok but could have been left out of the movie. The other side characters were good enough and give you something else to focus on when the main relationship story kinda gets alittle too heavy.

91	Enemy Territory 1987, R) This is one of the greatest under the radar movies that not many people even know about. Starring Ray Parker Jr. The guy who wrote the theme for Ghostbusters, along with an unknown actor named Gary Frank, they're basically held hostage in a ghetto gang controlled tenement building, where they have to depend on the help of the folks who live in the building to hide and make their escape from the psycho 80s street gang, "The Vampires". The gang led by the brilliant as always Tony Todd, is a typical 80s stereotype for what gangs were in movies at the time, wearing headbands and sleeveless leather jackets. They terrorize the people in the building going from apartment to apartment looking for Parker and frank. Beating and killing almost everyone in their path, the movie never lets up and is a constant thrill ride the whole way through. This isn't super super violent and plays the blood and gore to a minimum, but when someone dies in this, its taken pretty seriously and isn't like a cliche action movie where its just touch and go when someone dies. Stacey Dash from Clueless and Deon Richmond (the token black guy from not another teen movie) play two younger kids in the apartment helping the two main leads find secret tunnels and shortcuts to escape the gang. Ray Parker really held his own during the whole movie, and I was amazed he never really had a movie career after his solid acting job in this, and Gary Frank even though annoying really played the scared nerdy white guy perfectly, so you actually felt for him when he was forced to kill people. Overall my review couldn't do this movie justice, you just have to see it for yourself...if you can find it that is because this movie for some stupid reason is out of print and hasn't been released on dvd because of rights issues or something. If you can find it online or on vhs I suggest buying it and watching it. I found it online and it just blew me away with how solid and awsome it was. If you like 80s semi cheesy but entertaining gang suspense movies set in the ghetto, and if you're a Tony Todd fan this will be your cup of tea for sure. Also if you like Jan Michael Vincent and want to see him play a crippled, pissed off, paranoid, Vietnam vet, in a motorized wheelchair...then this is your movie lol

166	200 Motels 1971, R) I'm a pretty die hard Zappa fan but this was middle of the road at best. Very uneven as far as the comedy goes but the music was great. This is a good time capsule for fans to see the early 70s band with Flo and Eddie and how great this period of the band was musically. The comedy part of this incarnation of the band was very very stale after about a few minutes. So its not a surprise that this didn't do so great when it first hit theaters.I'll have to make a personal note to myself right now and say I need to watch this again sometime when I've taken a bag of shrooms or a hit of acid sometime. Maybe then it will make alittle more sense and be funnier. A better all around Zappa concert movie is Baby Snakes from 1979 or the 1982 Halloween Concert from New York.
