1
The Prestige 2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
One of those movies that inspires you to do a little research and which merits further discussion and reflection. The Cockney accents are so strong at times though that I opted to watch the entire movie in subtitles. I found David Bowie's brief appearances as Tesla particularily impressive. Another solid Nolan production.

The Big Bad Swim 2007,  Unrated)
The Big Bad Swim
I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. It's a wonderful character piece. Great use of tunes; excellent cast and directing.
3
The Departed 2006,  R)
The Departed
Started out slowly but once it got rolling it got rolling! Great ending. Now I need to see Infernal Affairs - the movie that this remade.
4
Click 2006,  PG-13)
5
The Last Kiss 2006,  R)
The Last Kiss
Very good relationship movie. Good acting all around, especially from Jacinda Barrett.
6
The Da Vinci Code 2006,  PG-13)
7
The Ultimate Gift 2006,  PG)
8
Curse of the Golden Flower 2006,  R)
Curse of the Golden Flower
Quite possibly the most visually stunning film I have ever seen. You know what to expect from a Yimou Zhang film.
9
V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
10
Away from Her 2007,  PG-13)
Away from Her
Wonderful film about Alzheimer's, relationships, and life.
11
Glory Road 2006,  PG)
12
Failure to Launch 2006,  PG-13)
13
Trailer Park Boys: The Movie 2006,  R)
Trailer Park Boys: The Movie
I never saw an episode of the show, but this is really funny stuff.
14
The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines 2006,  Unrated)
The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines
just as entertaining as the first one.
15
American Pie 5: The Naked Mile 2006,  R)
16
Red Road 2007,  Unrated)
Red Road
A very good and powerful film, reminiscent of the Three Colors trilogy. It moves very slowly for much of its length, gradually building in suspense, but the ending brings it all together nicely. It also has one of the steamiest sex scenes I have seen. The haunting remake of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" at the conclusion is an excellent choice of music as well.
17
Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj (Van Wilder 2) 2006,  R)
18
10th and Wolf 2006,  R)
10th and Wolf
Tightly directed, well-written, and featuring an all-star cast of talent.
19
My Super Ex-Girlfriend 2006,  PG-13)
20
Déjà Vu 2006,  PG-13)
21
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 2006,  PG-13)
22
John Tucker Must Die 2006,  PG-13)
23
El Cortez 2006,  R)
24
Babel 2006,  R)
Babel
A good movie that probably would've been better served being made as a foreign film. It was a bit too Hollywood - overdramatic and far-fetched at times.
25
Little Miss Sunshine 2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
Funny, quirky, and dark but ultimately overrated.
26
Saw III 2006,  R)
Saw III
A typical twist ending saves this one from sinking too deep from the first two, but the excessive gore, sentimentality, and extremely annoying supporting characters almost do just that.
27
The Page Turner (La Tourneuse de pages) 2006,  Unrated)
The Page Turner (La Tourneuse de pages)
Slow burn and subtle revenge; starting with an autograph and ending with an autograph, sandwiching many other instances of unsaid actions, all the while set to a beautiful classical score.
28
Invincible 2006,  PG)
Invincible
I am often not a fan of sports movies. They are typically more glitz than reality. But I was fairly impressed by the authenticity of this one, and Mark Wahlberg was believable in his role. As much a tribute to the brilliance of Dick Vermeil as to the message of never giving up, and backed by a good 70's soundtrack, this one had a few tearjerker moments.
29
Sherrybaby 2006,  R)
Sherrybaby
gritty and depressing story of a recovering addict
30
In the Land of Women 2007,  PG-13)
In the Land of Women
I thought this movie was cute, as well as dealing with some more serious issues. It just lacked that little something to push it to the next level. It's Jekyll & Hyde use of music didn't help any. Good acting all around though, especially Meg Ryan.
31
Scoop 2006,  PG-13)
32
Casino Royale 2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
I was a bit disappointed in Daniel Craig as Bond. The movie was certainly better than some of the later Pierce Brosnan ventures, but not as good as the classics. That defibrillator scene was one of the most absurdly funny scenes I have ever seen (though unintentional I'm sure). And, while I appreciate the quite accurately literal ending, it seemed to be anticlimactic. The theme song and opening credits were just horrendous. I did like a few of the changes that were made, however. For instance, ending the movie with the famous "Bond, James Bond" opening, and making a valiant attempt at restarting anew a horribly degenerating series (a la Batman). But if you want a better Daniel Craig movie, watch Layer Cake.
33
Children of Men 2006,  R)
Children of Men
My expectations were very high for this film. After all, it has a stellar cast and is ranked 186th on IMDB's all-time movies. What I saw was a movie that tried to be too many things and didn't really succeed at any of them (except for the war scenes - those were fantastic). So, while the story was interesting and well-directed, it didn't really leave me with much more than a thinly veiled moral message.
34
Deck the Halls 2006,  PG)
35
Shi gan (Time) 2007,  Unrated)
Shi gan (Time)
Captivating in presentation and allegorical in scope. This is the type of movie that will make you think.
36
The Return 2006,  PG-13)
The Return
A much-maligned thriller that does a better job of delivering than 3/4 of the films in its genre do.
37
Last Holiday 2006,  PG-13)
38
Played 2006,  R)
Played
The majority of this movie wasn't anything too special, but the last 1/3 or so really picked up and became a gritty little action flick. The open ending set to Erik Satie's beautiful "Gymnopedie No. 1" was cool.
39
Flags of Our Fathers 2006,  R)
Flags of Our Fathers
Frankly I expected more. The story was intriguing, but the political angle was focused on too much, making it feel more like a courtroom drama - of which I am typically not a fan.
40
Copying Beethoven, (Klang der Stille) 2006,  PG-13)
41
The Ex 2007,  PG-13)
The Ex
some humorous moments, but not much chemistry between the actors and only an average script
42
Love For Sale: Suely in the Sky (O Ceu de Suely) 2007,  Unrated)
Love For Sale: Suely in the Sky (O Ceu de Suely)
Well-made, but a bit boring and depressing. The cover song of "Everything I Own" is very pretty and apropos.
43
Irresistible 2005,  R)
Irresistible
There was a lot that didn't really make sense, and the twist is very obvious, but the last 20 minutes really pick up and make this an overall entertaining watch.
44
Clerks II 2006,  R)
Clerks II
Had some moments, but overall it tried too hard to be funny - and failed. And could you really root for anyone in this movie as a protagonist?
45
Pan's Labyrinth 2006,  R)
Pan's Labyrinth
A major letdown. I really didn't find anything exceptionally good about this. Perhaps it was the crappy CGI, perhaps it was the puppet strings attached to Ofelia, or perhaps it was the lack of any real story. I actually developed more of an inclination toward the despicable Capitan than any of the protagonists. That's just not right. I was very disappointed.
46
Underworld: Evolution 2006,  R)
Underworld: Evolution
very disappointing sequel to a great movie
47
Flushed Away 2006,  PG)
Flushed Away
This had quite a few funny moments and overall was cute. Disney, take note: this is how you mix adult humor and kid entertainment. Can't beat singing slugs and evil frogs. Good use of music.
48
The Benchwarmers 2006,  PG-13)
The Benchwarmers
Had it's funny moments. Kinda weird seeing Rob Schneider as the "stud"
49
Jimmy and Judy 2006,  R)
Jimmy and Judy
What started as pretentious and played first-person filming evolved into something at least halfway decent.
50
X-Men: The Last Stand 2006,  PG-13)
51
The Black Dahlia 2006,  R)
The Black Dahlia
Brian DePalma continues his subpar directing since the late 80's and Scarlett Johansson stinks up the screen yet one more time. About the only thing noteworthy to me was finding Hilary Swank sexy for the only time in my recollection.
52
Night at the Museum 2006,  PG)
Night at the Museum
I actually saw the 2nd one before this one in its entirety, though it really doesn't matter as they are virtually indistuingishable in my mind. While a bit too silly for me, it does offer clean entertainment and hopefully inspires kids (and grown ups) to learn more about history.
53
September Dawn 2007,  R)
September Dawn
A decent story, but way too melodramatic. Tamara Hope was extremely annoying as well.
54
The Covenant 2006,  PG-13)
The Covenant
This seems to be a love it/hate it type of movie. I guess I fall in the middle. Granted, while on the surface it is a cheesy teenie-bopper movie, it does so in a way that isn't very offensive. The soundtrack is pretty cool and, while the plot is weak, it has just enough substance to be bearable. I hate when movies gear themselves toward sequels though, and this one does just that.
55
Bloodrayne 2006,  R)
56
Dead & Deader (Dead and Deader) 2006,  Unrated)
Dead & Deader (Dead and Deader)
The cultural commentary, some quirky characters, and a few funny lines save this from complete insouciance.
57
10 Items or Less 2006,  R)
58
Inside Man 2006,  R)
Inside Man
Like many of Spike Lee's films, pretentious and overdramatic. Jodie Foster's character is probably in my top 5 most annoying characters ever.
59
Wrestlemaniac (El Mascarado Massacre) 2008,  Unrated)
Wrestlemaniac (El Mascarado Massacre)
Pretty typical slasher film, but some of the directorial and musical moments were redeeming.
60
Day Of Wrath 2006,  R)
Day Of Wrath
An interesting story hampered by poor execution and a ridiculous accent by Christopher Lambert.
61
Snakes on a Plane 2006,  R)
Snakes on a Plane
Just about as stupid as I thought it'd be.
62
RV 2006,  PG)
RV
If your sense of humor relies solely on slapstick you may find this enjoyable. Personally, I'll opt for the Three Stooges. This was basically a really bad version of Vacation.
63
Lady in the Water 2006,  PG-13)
64
The Marine 2006,  PG-13)
The Marine
Just your typical meathead formula.
65
Macbeth 2006,  Unrated)
Macbeth
Shakespeare is boring enough without garbling it with modernity.
66
Mustang Sally (Mustang Sally's Horror House) 2006,  R)
67
Land of the Blind 2006,  R)
Land of the Blind
Even if wasn't for the patheticallly thin political message this movie would still be garbage. This could be the worst script I have ever been privy to. Not even such normally stellar actors as Fiennes and Sutherland could add anything to this. Not surprisingly, Edwards has not had an original work of fiction prior to or after this. What a waste.
68
Marie Antoinette 2006,  PG-13)
Marie Antoinette
An artsy-fartsy piece of garbage
69
Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus 2006,  R)
Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus
I like weird, but this was just stupid-weird
70
Klimt 2005,  Unrated)
Klimt
While I'm always interested to see biopics, trying to make a movie more artistic than the artist never works very well.
71
Cloud 9 2006,  R)
Cloud 9
The only thing good about this were the cameos.
72
Stupid Teenagers Must Die 2006,  Unrated)
73
Lady Chatterley 2007,  R)
Lady Chatterley
While not poorly done, I just found this too monotonous and boring.
74
Date Movie 2006,  PG-13)
Date Movie
Pretty much as stupid as advertised, but just enough funny moments to not make it a complete waste of time.
75
Werewolf in a Women's Prison 2006,  Unrated)
76
Surf School 2006,  R)
Surf School
It's never good when a group of mid-20's people play a bunch of high schoolers. At least the characters were somewhat likeable.
77
The Tripper 2007,  R)
The Tripper
This was pretty bad.
78
Crank 2006,  R)
Crank
I was hoping for something like The Transporter, instead I got something more like a cheese sandwich.
79
Kill House ,  Unrated)
80
Shadow: Dead Riot 2005,  R)
Shadow: Dead Riot
This was bad, though the fight and shower scenes were somewhat redeeming.
81
Mr. Jingles 2006,  R)
Mr. Jingles
Just plain bad.
