Vidocq (Dark Portals: The Chronicles of Vidocq)
At first I thought this was Sherlock Holmes meets V for Vendetta but it's more like Sherlock Holmes meets the Matrix devil. This movie was fantastic - great plot, great fight scenes and a great twist.
9
Training Day 2001,  R)
Training Day
I wasn't expecting to like this movie, or anything more than Denzel's normally monochromatic performance, but I was pleasantly surprised by both. Gritty and reminiscent of Scarface, with enough twists in the plot to keep it interesting. The only question I have is...why Dre and Snoop. Why??
10
Amy's O (Amy's Orgasm) (Why Love Doesn't Work) 2002,  R)

The Affair of the Necklace 2001,  R)
The Affair of the Necklace
I'm not sure why this film gets bad reviews. I found it to be an intriguing, lavish, and well-acted historical drama.

The Man from Elysian Fields
Great film noir - who knew Mick Jagger could act?
19
Someone Like You 2001,  PG-13)
Someone Like You
This was a really good movie, had a great soundtrack, and the actors had great chemistry. It was weird to hear Hugh Jackman without an accent. I only wish the ending wasn't quite so cheesy.

One Night at McCool's 2001,  R)
One Night at McCool's
fantastically funny film noir
32
Light of My Eyes 2001,  Unrated)
Light of My Eyes
I love movies that are basically just about life and the journey we all take along it's road; simple, and yet thought-provoking. I have a feeling this movie, and certainly it's beautiful score, will linger with me.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 2001,  R)

Dinner with Friends
A character and dialogue-driven gem backed by an all-star cast.
39
Don't Say a Word 2001,  R)
40
Kate & Leopold 2001,  PG-13)
41
Dagon 2001,  R)
Dagon
In true Lovecraft fashion, pretty damn disturbingly cool.
42
The Deep End 2001,  R)
43
Exit Wounds 2001,  R)
44
Scenes of the Crime 2003,  R)
Scenes of the Crime
Though seemingly nonsensical at times, this was a pretty interesting gangster flick. Of particular note is how the actions of the criminals interact with the people going about their normal business.
45
Gypsy 83 2001,  R)
46
Amélie 2001,  R)
47
Swordfish 2001,  R)
Swordfish
This movie had the potential to be great but it fell short in a few areas. As it was, it was still an entertainingly cerebral action flick. I love when Travolta's a badass.
48
Blow Dry 2001,  R)
Blow Dry
This movie, like American Gigolo, seemed much better the first time I watched it.
49
Ghost World 2001,  R)
Ghost World
It gets a bit weird at the end, but another example of an entertainingly quirky movie. Even Scarlett Johansson is likeable.
50
The Hole 2001,  R)
51
Fat Girl (À ma soeur!) 2001,  Unrated)
52
The Glass House 2001,  PG-13)
53
The One 2001,  PG-13)
54
Atlantis - The Lost Empire 2001,  PG)
55
Rock Star 2001,  R)
56
The Believer 2002,  R)
57
Sol Goode 2001,  R)
58
Human Nature 2002,  R)
Human Nature
I always enjoy movies that can make societal statements in a comical manner.
A bit slow to develop, but by the end all the symbolism and character idiosyncrasies lead up to the hilarious final scene.
59
Lantana 2002,  R)
Lantana
Despite the fact that this has all been done before, an all-star Australian cast and a good ending make this worth watching.
60
CQ 2002,  R)
61
Me Without You 2002,  R)
Me Without You
Another prime example of a film that builds as it progresses. What starts out as a slightly annoying teen angst movie matures into a complex entanglement of emotion. The ending, reminiscent of The Graduate, is a nice touch.
62
The Animal 2001,  PG-13)
The Animal
Funny, cute, and entertaining.
63
The Mists of Avalon 2001,  Unrated)
The Mists of Avalon
excellent King Arthur story - from the women's perspective
64
What's the Worst That Could Happen? 2001,  PG-13)
65
The Princess Diaries 2001,  G)
66
The Man Who Wasn't There 2001,  R)
The Man Who Wasn't There
This was all right. Unlike many other Coen Bros films I actually liked the directing in this one, but there just wasn't enough meat to make it much more than mildly entertaining. The narration set to classical music was nice though.
67
Knight Club 2001,  R)
Knight Club
This could've been a smash big-budget drama.
68
K-PAX 2001,  PG-13)
K-PAX
The first half is quite hokey but it gets much better at the end.
69
Ocean's Eleven 2001,  PG-13)
Ocean's Eleven
Better than I thought it'd be. The technical aspect was pretty cool; the love story...not so much. I was expecting a twist at the end - which didn't happen - but it was good to see honor amongst thieves.
70
Who is Cletis Tout? 2002,  R)
Who is Cletis Tout?
This was pretty good. The story was interesting. I liked Tim Allen as the "bad" guy.
71
A.I. Artificial Intelligence 2001,  PG-13)
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
If nothing else, this was quite a project. It started out in such a hole though that it spent the rest of the movie working it's way out. My interest heightened sharply when the mechas were captured and thrown into the circus, only to be dashed once again by the hokey escape. In other words, typical Speilberg movie-making. I would be so interested to see what this movie would've been like had Kubrick been able to direct it with the astronomical budget that surely was behind it. Surely it would've been much darker, and almost certainly much better. While the Philip K. Dick-esque story was very intriguing, the movie suffered from too much pomp and fluff.
72
Double Whammy 2002,  R)
73
The Piano Teacher (La Pianiste) 2001,  R)
The Piano Teacher (La Pianiste)
I will say this...the story and performances are captivating. This is certainly a very complex film, and well-directed, but it just possibly may have been a bit too weird for me - and that's saying something. Perhaps a reading of the novel upon which this is based is merited.
74
Domestic Disturbance 2001,  PG-13)
Domestic Disturbance
Right from the gate this movie had a lot of promise. The story was interesting and continued to build on the suspense. But then it just seemed to come to an end, and lamely at that.
75
Gosford Park 2001,  R)
76
Anne Frank: The Whole Story 2001,  Unrated)
Anne Frank: The Whole Story
While I thought the movie very well-made, it was also excessively long to tell a story most everyone already knows.
77
Slashers 2001,  R)
Slashers
For a no-budget film this was actually quite good. The concept was interesting, the acting decent, and the music bumpin'. While we've seen this theme before in The Running Man, the contemporaneous commentary on so-called "reality TV" (which has only gotten worse since this movie came out) was wonderful. Like Cube, yet another obvious influence on the Saw series.
78
She Creature 2001,  R)
79
Pearl Harbor 2001,  PG-13)
Pearl Harbor
Actually better than I expected, though there were still plenty of things holding it down - extremely poor casting, bad acting (what was with the horrible fake accents?), cheesy special effects, and weak directing to name a few. The battle scenes kept this boat afloat, and barely at that.
80
The Wedding Planner 2001,  PG-13)
81
Saving Silverman (Evil Woman) 2001,  PG-13)
Saving Silverman (Evil Woman)
It had some funny moments, but overall it was just too silly.
82
Head Over Heels 2001,  PG-13)
Head Over Heels
Very cheesily written, Freddy Prinze Jr, and four supermodels posing as detectives. Yeah...
83
America's Sweethearts 2001,  PG-13)
America's Sweethearts
A decent romantic comedy. The cast is what really saves it.
84
Picture Claire 2001,  R)
Picture Claire
This movie tries way too hard to be cool, and it just simply isn't.
85
15 Minutes 2001,  R)
15 Minutes
While I appreciate the whole theme of the movie commenting on the stupidity of socio obsession with fame, this movie was still pretty weak.
86
La répétition (Replay) 2001,  Unrated)
La répétition (Replay)
Nothing special in this French "Single White Female."
87
Mad Love 2002,  R)
Mad Love
Interesting from a historical perspective, otherwise not much special here.
88
Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise 2001,  Unrated)
Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise
A bit too weird for my taste.
89
Storytelling 2002,  R)
Storytelling
Though the ending was decent, there really wasn't much point to this pretentious piece of garbage. It's really not very fun watching a movie with not one single likeable character.
90
True Blue 2001,  R)
True Blue
I've seen this plot a dozen times before.
91
A Girl Thing 2001,  Unrated)
92
Double Take 2001,  PG-13)
Double Take
A little too silly for my tastes. Seems like it would've been a good movie for Eddie Murphy.
93
A Knight's Tale 2001,  PG-13)
A Knight's Tale
There's a lot wrong with this movie and not much right. Somebody please put an end to scoring historical films with modern music. Please.
94
Shrek 2001,  PG)
Shrek
Sexual innuendos, animal cruelty, horrible music, and an overdose of Cameron Diaz...great family fun.
95
Rush Hour 2 2001,  PG-13)
Rush Hour 2
Too silly for my tastes.
96
Bones 2001,  R)
Bones
Like a combination of The Crow and Nightmare On Elm Street - only bad.
97
Slammed 2001,  Unrated)
Slammed
Silly, but the characters were rather likeable.
98
The Attic Expeditions 2001,  R)
99
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider 2001,  PG-13)
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
This movie is much more ridiculous than I remembered. Even Daniel Craig is corny in it. Give me the vid game any day.
100
Moulin Rouge! 2001,  PG-13)
Moulin Rouge!
The king of overrated neo-musicals.
101
Harvard Man 2002,  R)
Harvard Man
What a piece of garbage. Possibly the worst directing I have ever seen. The story was stupid, the writing weak, and the characters annoying.
102
Frozen in Fear 2001,  Unrated)
Frozen in Fear
I can't believe this lame thriller left itself open to a sequel.
103
Metropolis (Metoroporisu) 2002,  PG-13)
Metropolis (Metoroporisu)
Despite some cool animation I found this boring and a bit pretentious. I'd rather watch the original or, better yet, Blade Runner.
104
Hotel 2003,  R)
105
Druids (Vercingétorix) 2001,  R)
Druids (Vercingétorix)
I wonder if the filmmakers actually thought they had an epic drama on their hands? This was about as silly as Christopher Lambert's wig and as bad as his acting.
106
Thirteen Ghosts (13 Ghosts) 2001,  R)
107
South of Heaven, West of Hell 2000,  R)
108
Point Doom 1999,  Unrated)
Point Doom
This was bad. Ice-T and Angie Everhart stretch their acting skills...thin, Richard Greico gives eyeliner a bad name, there's a terrible shootout scene with toy guns, and I think this was edited by a 3rd grader. The Diceman was the best thing going here. Yes, it was that bad...
109
Cradle of Fear 2000,  Unrated)
