The Adventures of Baron Munchausen 1989,  PG)
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
The film was not excellent, but has a good message, good ambientations, good actors, and it is imprescindible for the ones that got fascinated by the character when we were young.

I understand how impacting had to be this Gillian universe, one of the first times presented. Full of imagination and absurd (you can appreciate how other directors, such as Jeunet, followed some steps), it combines humor with also tragedy and terrifying scenes. A highly agitated cocktail in this distopic story.

Micmacs (Micmacs à tire-larigot)
Jeunet offers us his very particular magic world, now against weapons manufacturers. The main character, with his trouppe of crazy soldiers, has a master plan to take revenge for two big arms sellers. Humor, tenderness and a very careful photography in a film in the same line of the previous works of Jeunet (Amelie, Delicatessen, The city of lost children, A very long engagement), maybe less funny and genial than others when it gets into the details of the master plan, but, as always, offers a original approach and marvelous characters.

Miyazaki does it again and, taking a particular version of old story of Little Mermaid, makes an universe full of wonderful creatures as well as unforgettable and original characters.

Spirited Away 2001,  PG)
16
Howl's Moving Castle 2005,  PG)
17
Hugo 2011,  PG)
Hugo
Although most of the film is just a funny, superficial story, Scorsese makes a beautiful tribute to cinema in general and Meliés in particular. Nice, mainly for kids. It receives an additional half a star by going back to Meliés.

Le Voyage dans la lune (A Trip to the Moon) 1999,  Unrated)
Le Voyage dans la lune (A Trip to the Moon)
Inspired by the movie "Hugo", I finally did one of my old must-do, that was watching this movie. It is still a great triumph of colour (when watched the hand-coloured images) and imagination, and special effects continue being impressive, more when considering the time. A great inspiration for much of the following cinema.

Alice in Wonderland 1951,  G)

The Fall 2006,  R)
The Fall
Although a wonderful display of splendid visual shots and fantastic environments for settings, the end is a little too cruel for me.
21
Moonrise Kingdom 2012,  PG-13)
22
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore 2014,  Unrated)
23
The Science of Sleep 2006,  R)
The Science of Sleep
As in some Gillian movies, this one fails by an excess of imagination
24
Upside Down 2013,  PG-13)
25
La última isla 2013,  Unrated)
