The Shawshank Redemption 1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
Morgan Freeman + Tim Robbins = one hell of a great movie. My first thoughts after seeing this flick: "That was based on a Stephen King book?"
2
The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
The greatest film ever made. The acting is flawless, the cinematography is beautiful and the storyline is incredible.
3
Inception 2010,  PG-13)
Inception
That I have seen, there are only 19 Five Star movies ever made - this is one of them. The concept and the complexity of a simple idea is astonishing. The film-making is stunning. The editing and special effects are spot on. The ONLY aspect that wasn't practically perfect was the exposition... but you try explaining half that shit to a PG-13 audience.
4
The Godfather, Part II 1974,  R)
The Godfather, Part II
The first time I saw this I couldn't really understand what was going on all the time - the second viewing I paid close attention. As soon as I started realizing this character had done that and that guy had done this I started realizing how brilliant this movie was. I loved the fresh idea of the 2 different stories happening both before and after the first installment.

DeNiro was excellent along with Al Pachino although when I think of The Godfather I think of Marlon Brando. To me this is still inferior to my favorite movie of all time... The Godfather.
5
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) 1966,  R)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.)
An awesome movie. The suspense in the graveyard standoff was perfectly directed helping end a brilliant final act to a brilliant trilogy.
6
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Possibly the greatest quotable movie ever made.
7
Schindler's List 1993,  R)
Schindler's List
Well made film... I don't care if a movie is an hour long or 4 hours long just as long as the dialogue is interesting enough and the plot is well thought out. This movie didn't do so well in those areas yet I still was interested. Great performances by all - beautiful cinematography.

Toy Story 3 2010,  G)
Toy Story 3
The characters are still perfect after 15 years...
9
12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men) 1957,  Unrated)
12 Angry Men (Twelve Angry Men)
The fact that this film was (almost) entirely shot in one room w/ no stops in the conversation seems absurd when you also consider this to be one of the greatest films of all-time. Technically flawless. Near-perfect acting. Gripping dialogue. The idea of a single life laying in the hand of 12 Angry Men is a great concept that can be argued about for days, but unfortunately people have 'better things to do'...
10
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975,  R)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Other than maybe the Godfather this movie has the best all-around acting I've ever seen. Love Jack as always but this has to be his greatest performance and Chief was pretty awesome as well.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Best of the Star Wars hexalogy. Hexalogy right?
12
The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
A bit overrated in my opinion but still a great movie. The quality and vibe are not as good as Batman Begins although it is more interesting and entertaining.
13
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Possibly the best of the trilogy.
14
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
To me this is just about the most interesting movie ever made for a couple reasons:

1) How it was made
2) How it changed the sci-fi genre and movies to come
3) How it attracted one of the largest fan bases in movie history

This is the most creative film of all time and the whole storyline being a true epic is fascinating. The characters, the story, the art direction, the special effects and the action are incredibly rediculous.
15
Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) 1954,  Unrated)
Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai)
Alright, I'm finally writing a reveiw for this classic. I'm going to go at this with a much different approach and criticize a few points many people don't talk about. This is said to be one of the most well made films of all time next to Citizen Kane. While it is incredibly entertaining and the length doesn't bother me that much I have to say I am deeply puzzled.

Maybe it is the gap in time but the acting was... odd? I watched this with my dad who has pretty good taste in film (he had seen it before). He also questioned the acting... "It was almost like stage acting really" he said. I enjoyed Takashi Shimura (the leader) and Toshirô Mifune (the drunk) but I wouldn't say they had exceptional acting performances.

The action was fun although too slow and the camera work really didn't add any suspense or anything that would make you say "wow" infact compared to today's camera work (and this goes back to the gap in time) it was actually pretty crappy. The story was pretty good - nothing more though (certainly not great). I don't understand how this is susposed to be up there with Citizen Kane.
16
Casablanca 1942,  PG)
17
GoodFellas 1990,  R)
GoodFellas
Scorsese's best. In my opinion DeNiro's best. Best mob film not named The Godfather.
18
Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
Forget the twist... watching this movie the second and even the third time is so much better than the first. It's not even that my second favorite director directed this master piece or that 2 of my favorite actors star in it. It's the single greatest commentary of the post-modern era on consumerism. The stylistic storytelling and direction sets the perfect mood for one of the greatest movies of all-time. It's impossible not to like this.
19
Cidade de Deus (City of God) 2002,  R)
Cidade de Deus (City of God)
There's an interesting story behind the City of God but I won't give it away. This film is too good to pass up.
20
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Watching this again, I forgot how good Jackson's direction was. The scenes in particular that were meant to strike fear in the audience were some of the best. The orcs were so well visualized and along with the camera movement and the music it was hard not to be fascinated. Looking back I can't believe it's been a decade since this came out and I can't believe how many stars were in this epic.
21
Rear Window 1954,  PG)
Rear Window
Great thriller - I just need to see more of Hitchcock now.
22
Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The best Indiana Jones movie ever made. Possibly the best action/adventure film ever made.
23
Psycho 1960,  R)

The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
Kevin Spacey is one of the greatest actors of all-time. The twist at the end is one of the best I've ever seen. Oh and fuck Scary Movie...
25
Once Upon a Time in the West 1968,  PG-13)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Leone never fails to impress - I'll have to watch this again sometime soon though.
26
The Silence of the Lambs 1991,  R)
The Silence of the Lambs
Hopkins does a great job. Great physcological thirller though it could've been better... I put it in the same category of Dark Knight and Avatar: movies that are still great but stupidly overrated.
27
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
Nothing quite like it...
28
Seven (Se7en) 1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacy 3 solid actors - in my Top 10. David Fincher directing - in my Top 10. Se7en is without hesitation - in my Top 10.
29
Memento 2000,  R)
Memento
The twist disappointed me a little bit even though it was still great but everything else about this film is amazing. The story, the acting, the cinematography and the concept to begin with.
30
It's a Wonderful Life 1946,  PG)
31
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Possibly the weakest of the trilogy, but still a fantastic film by all measures and not to forget some of the greatest battle scenes ever orchestrated...
32
Sunset Boulevard 1950,  Unrated)
Sunset Boulevard
I think every thing about this film is well received by critics and viewers. I thought it was a tragic story of celebrity. I didn't love the script as it was dry in a lot of areas, but for the most part I was surprised by how it caught my attention and by how dark it was.
33
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Original and incredibly different. Will have to see this every so often from now and then.
34
North by Northwest 1959,  Unrated)
North by Northwest
North by Northwest is a sort of blockbuster from mystery and suspense director Alfred Hitchcock. It feels epic for its time, involving trains, car chases, planes and a climatic scene on Mount Rushmore. The story itself is decent and the action is definitely suspenseful at times (although watching this 54 years after its release might leave me feeling bored in moments of supposed suspense).

I enjoyed it, but I was hoping for a little something more memorable in the way of character. Anyway, its hard to argue with a classic from a masterful director.
35
Léon: The Professional 1994,  R)
Léon: The Professional
Reminds me of Taxi Driver in some ways. I would've liked it to be a little longer. The potential for this movie to be a Top 10 or Top 15 on my list was there but the admiration for the two main characters was cut short by the time.

Jean Reno was fantastic. Natalie Portman was great. Gary Oldman was solid but I couldn't take him seriously.

IT'S NOW PLAYING FOR FREE ON HULU.COM - ENJOY!
36
Citizen Kane 1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
A great concept to begin with but this is one of the most well-made classic films of all-time. I appreciate it for it's influence although it isn't exaclty one of my favorites.
37
Apocalypse Now 1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
This is a film that I had figured was going to need at least 2 viewings. I didn't exactly "love it" my first viewing but as I had figured a second viewing did change my mind. The most recent movie I've seen that I can say the same for would be Sin City - which I turned out actually loving the second time around. Same goes for Coppola's Apocalypse Now. It also helps when you're not starting this movie at oh say 11pm and you have to stop with an hour - half hour left to go.

I still think Coppola's masterpiece is "The Godfather" (if I had to pick between the two) but this is easily one of the greatest war films of all-time and would be the greatest (in my opinion) had it not been for Full Metal Jacket.
38
Forrest Gump 1994,  PG-13)
Forrest Gump
The art of storytelling at it's best - and it doesn't hurt to have one of the greatest actors of all time telling it.

Taxi Driver 1976,  R)
Taxi Driver
Must-see classic.
42
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
One of the best action movies I've ever seen next to the the first Terminator. The acting isn't great but it's adequete. Not many movies that have the same type of suspense that the Terminator series includes.
43
Vertigo 1958,  PG)
Vertigo
Wasn't that impressed.
44
Lawrence of Arabia 1962,  PG)
45
Alien 1979,  R)
Alien
Honestly I expected more from this so-called classic. Yes it was great fun and a beyond solid movie but the suspense wasn't nearly on the level where I thought it would have been. The ending within the ending was questioned as "overkill" by some yet I thought it wasn't enough. The acting and the visuals were top notch though. The visual effects and set decoration were obviously inspired by the great artist H.R. Giger (my brother's a big fan) and he's credited as the designer of the "Alien".
46
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
A well made movie all-around though my hopes for an exciting "rescue the p.o.w." plot were not realized (I only read the title before going in to see this flick). One of the best war movies (although that's not exactly saying too much) but it was great... nominated for an unbelievable 11 Oscars.
47
Amélie 2001,  R)
Amélie
There's nothing to not love about this film.
48
WALL-E 2008,  G)
WALL-E
The visuals were by far the best that Pixar has installed in any movie to date yet the story wasn't all that appealing. Probabley Pixar's worst to date.
49
The Shining 1980,  R)
The Shining
The 2 people I have known in my life who have described themselves as horror fanatics (and one being a film school teacher) have both expressed their strong dislike for this movie. However, I along with most others would like to say the critics got this one wrong.
50
A Clockwork Orange 1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
The idea of a common cure for aggression by way of torture and conditioning raises all kinds of questions. The fact is Alex is a cold blooded criminal and the cure (as the priest says) does nothing other than prevent him from making decisions. The cure does not make him good - it makes him insane (as if he wasn't already).

This is a disturbing and twisted film throughout... but the conclusion is perhaps even more disturbing and twisted. Brilliant film.
51
Paths of Glory 1957,  Unrated)
Paths of Glory
A disturbing and emotional ride through WWI w/ Kirk Douglas appearing to be the only man with either morals or the gut to stick w/ his own principles. Everyone should see this film - it is one of the better anti-war films I have seen to this date.
52
The Departed 2006,  R)
The Departed
The Departed puts a spin on the whole good guy v. bad guy deal with the Whalberg and DiCaprio's characters. This loaded cast also delivers.
53
The Pianist 2002,  R)
54
To Kill A Mockingbird 1962,  Unrated)
To Kill A Mockingbird
Just now reviewing this (and as I say this I know it's due for a re-watch). Gregory Peck leads an outstanding cast in the adaptation of Harper Lee's bestseller. One of the best moral stories told in the pictures.
55
Aliens 1986,  R)
Aliens
I thought the acting and the feel for the characters were a little weak to begin with but it got much better as the story progressed. The suspense was much better handled than the first and this has to rank among my top 5 action/ thrillers of all-time next to movies like Jaws and The Terminator (another James Cameron classic).

Spirited Away 2001,  PG)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
As much as I enjoyed the fresh concept behind the film there was way too much weirdness dragged on and the feeling of depressed dissatisfaction overwhelmed me throughout... well the entire movie. Although I will give it credit for being well crafted.
61
Chinatown 1974,  R)
Chinatown
Chinatown kept me interested the whole way through as a neo-noir flick surrounding a slew of information that made up one of the most complex stories that I've ever seen on film.

I watched it at 4 in the morning, but regardless I think it was a difficult movie to follow. Until now (after reflecting for at least half an hour) I haven't been able to sum up the movie or provide the absolute details of the case, but now that it makes so much more sense it's easy to see why on repeat viewings this might be worthy of being called a masterpiece.

The problem with just watching it once is that I didn't know who the villain was until late in the movie (as it isn't revealed until much later). I also didn't know why the Ida Sessions was hired by the villain or why Evelyn Mulwray chose to dismiss the case against Gittes right after the death of her husband.

I enjoyed it very much, but it doesn't rank among my favorite neo-noirs like Se7en, L.A. Confidential or Blade Runner.
62
Requiem for a Dream 2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
The most intense movie I've ever seen. The most powerful movie I've ever seen. The quick and clever ediitng along with the visuals provide an atmosphere that almost makes you feel trapped... there's a certain point in the movie where you just know if you go any further there's no turning back.
63
L.A. Confidential 1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential
Near perfect dialogue with perfect characters for the story (which is nearly perfect). The best shootout scene I've ever seen since Heat. Kevin Spacey. Russell Crowe. Twists and turns and brilliant direction from Curtis Hanson. Even with as much critical praise as it received this has still got to be one of the most underrated movies I've seen.
64
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
I'm not as much a fan as most are but I still enjoyed it the whole way through. Like Pulp Fiction it is a very quotable movie.

I liked it, but the hype killed it for me... the suspense and mystery was gripping enough.
71
The Bridge on the River Kwai 1957,  PG)
72
Raging Bull 1980,  R)
Raging Bull
The best biopic I've seen hands down... and as a Scorsese film and masterpiece, this is far superior to Taxi Driver.
73
The Prestige 2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
Excellent. Wolverine and Batman in the same movie! But honeslty this was one of the most clever films I've ever seen. There's only one movie from Nolan I have yet to see and if it's less than amazing it will be a first.
74
Back to the Future 1985,  PG)
Back to the Future
What good fun! Lloyd and Fox are perfect - it's a great story and idea. It keeps your brain thinking "what if" through the entire movie and even afterwards.
75
Inglourious Basterds 2009,  R)
Inglourious Basterds
Much better than I expected. Quentin's done it again.
76
2001: A Space Odyssey 1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Visually stunning but the ending leaves a big intentional question mark as to what happened. (Don't read this if you haven't seen the movie). I still don't know what exactly to think but it seems as though mankind evolves after epanding its existence from the Earth to the Moon to the Universe yet is reborn as something completley different ready to exist in whole new level of evolution. It's really something special and unique in every way.

Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 1997,  PG-13)

Up
Possibly Pixar's best ever.
85
Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso) 1988,  R)
Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso)
In a lot of ways Cinema Paradiso is nostalgic beauty. It's a love story and a coming of age story. Honestly I was expecting something greater and even more emotional, as I liked the characters, but didn't quite love them. Either way it's a kind of movie that has become all but extinct today.
86
Braveheart 1995,  R)
87
The Maltese Falcon 1941,  PG)
88
Once Upon a Time in America 1984,  R)
Once Upon a Time in America
This was an exceptional film by all standards. Length can bother me at times but it doesn't always - this is by far the longest movie I've ever seen coming in at just 10 minutes under 4 hours. It's a complete work of art though: the music, the cinematography, the acting, the story, the vibe... just about everything is near perfect. My only complaint was that if I heard that phone ring one more fucking time...
89
All About Eve 1950,  PG)
90
Rashômon (Rashomon) (In the Woods) 1951,  Unrated)
91
The Green Mile 1999,  R)
The Green Mile
Well, what a nice story. I really think Stephen King and Frank Darabont could do a prison TV mini series like Oz - that would be one hell of a show to watch. Anyway, The Green Mile was different than almost any other movie I've ever seen. The directing and storytelling styles were almost identical to The Shawshank Redemption but other than that, The Green Mile is one of a kind.

Ultimately it's a story about human nature and meaning behind life and death - it's a very powerful film.
92
Metropolis 1927,  PG-13)

Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
I gave this a second viewing and actually watched it on my TV instead of a crappy little monitor - it made a big difference. Understanding the whole story now I actually enjoyed it a lot more so than my first going. In fact the only thing not to like is the cheesy occasional one-liners, "but that's my specialty!"

Gladiator 2000,  R)
Gladiator
A true hollywood epic that is complete fiction for the most part but is an incredible film that will be remembered for years. Russell Crowe is outstanding in a Spartacus inspired role, but Joaquin Phoenix steals the show for me. It's been a long time since I really hated a character so much as Commodus (which is due partly to the script, directing, editing and maybe history but above all - Phoenix himself).

Aside from performances this film was great. The emotion and story behind the general that became a slave that became a gladiator that defied an emperor is one I will never forget. I'm glad I finally saw this, about two and half years after a classmate kept insisting and insisting that I see it (I knew I would eventually).

103
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Not the best of the originals but certainly better than any of prequels and certainly a damn good film. It's much different than any other Star Wars film ever made and the conclusion is a fantastic ending to the series as a whole - unfortunately I own this on blu ray which means I get to see Hayden Christian as Anakin Skywalker one more dreadful time...
104
Unforgiven 1992,  R)
Unforgiven
Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

This dark western is a twist on the genre. It's violent and disturbing and built on meaning. The characters that truly matter are truly characters. "Deserves got nothing to do with it." Gotta love that line coming from Eastwood. This is the a great depiction of the genre and makes sense to be Clint's last western.
105
Slumdog Millionaire 2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
A good concept and plot but a great story that explains everything you need to know about a guy named Jamal from him becoming a boy to a man. Impossible to not love this movie.

Batman Begins
The best Batman movie ever made until The Dark Knight - although I'm still not 100% sure.
109
Avatar 2009,  PG-13)
Avatar
The hype about this movie was unnecessary - it just didn't measure up.

Edit: Upon a second viewing a few years after first seeing it in theaters, this movie was unbelievably painful and boring to watch. The graphics and visuals are amazing blah, blah, blah (they don't come close to impressing me the way Jurassic Park, T2 or most other action movies do). Perfection from a graphics stand point is not the same as visual mastery and quite frankly aside from that big tree falling, it's easy to get over within the first minute of seeing the first Na'vi.

The story, message and characters have all been recycled for decades in Hollywood. It's honestly hard to sit through

Die Hard 1988,  R)

Umm, how the hell is this a comedy? It's not even a dark comedy... there is nothing funny about it other than the insane aspects of chopping up somebody's limbs in a wood chipper (so yes there are some aspects of a black/ dark comedy but honestly not many). The reoccurring "yea" with a distinct accent was funny - I guess. The fact that this isn't even real is an element of comedy... oh wait, not really. Besides the genre debate this was a phenomenal film. The writing and dialogue was outstanding and the acting was perfect.

For a Few Dollars More (Per Qualche Dollaro in Più)
A step up from the first installment though I'm not quite sure where I would put it compared to the last but like all of the films in the Man With No Name trilogy it has a fantastic ending and final duel similar to the one in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Oh the twist - the twist is incredible. Without the twist it is a Four Star - Four and a Half Star movie but the twist makes it all. I'm not quite sure how it could end without one though.

There Will Be Blood
This was an excellent film by all measures. The intensity and the character of Daniel Plainview kept my interest throughout the whole movie. I always like a good plot in my favorite movies or something that ties pieces together and this is more of a character study but the film held onto me the entire time. I think I have to watch it again to absorb it all.

Platoon
Good war movie. This is certainly not as great as some say it is abd it's kind of an odd cast: John C. McGinley plays an asshole as usual, Charlie Sheen plays the lead as does his father in the better Vietnam feature Apocalyspe Now and even Johnny Depp plays an interpreter.

It's not as strong and powerful as it should be and it's not even Oliver Stone's best work. In fact it's not even his best war movie. I found Born On the Fourth of July to be much better as far as the story, acting, cinematography and just about everything else was concerned.

I bought this after reading the book. Honestly the movie's much better than the book which is more of a drawn out magazine article relying on autobiographical and unrelated accounts to help fill the book. I don't mean to hate on the book. I still enjoyed it but I'll just say I prefer Sean Penn's film.

Christopher's story amazes me although the first rule of being a Boy Scout is be prepared. He was irresponsible, foolish and young, but smart, fun and brave at the same time. Overall pretty good performances and a great movie.

I'm glad I finally got the chance to see this. My uncle has a funny story about Mickey Rourke and The Wrestler - He's somewhat involved in the film making business and he saw the movie a while ago. He was at a party and talking to a guy about how he thought Mickey Rourke's performance was overrated bec. it was just Mickey Rourke being himself durring the whole film. I don't really care if that's true or not but he did give a damn good performance. Anyway he looks over his shoulder and sees none other than THE Mickey Rourke...

Cool story - Cool movie. Darren Aronofsky directs yet another amazing picture about destroying someones body and life.

166
Dog Day Afternoon 1975,  R)
Dog Day Afternoon
This is somewhat similar to another Sidney Lumet film (the only other one I have seen), 12 Angry Men - in a couple of ways. One is that the entire movie (for the most part) takes place in a single location and two is that the two films are very much about a heated debate (in one sense or another).

I also don't remember either having any music which is unheard of in today's films. As a whole this film was great. It lacked a certain emotional impact but the characters and performances alone are well worth its 4 star rating.

Years ago I didn't think this movie was going to be great even though I rarely doubt Pixar, but a friend encouraged me to watch it and I'm glad I did. The story comes around and finishes surprisingly strong. It's not as easy to get heavily invested into the characters or anything, but the story is as strong as they come from Pixar. Another good movie from Brad Bird also.

V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
Upon a 3rd visit to this film I have changed my opinion completely. I understand the message and the idea of "V" so much more now than I did years ago when I first saw this film which makes it all the more enjoyable though this is not a movie or a film you simply enjoy.

This story is so thought provoking that you can almost forget you're watching actors and actresses for 2 hours. Alan Moore has created many graphic novels that are almost better off as just novels - their content is so hard to wrap your brain around that pictures can almost take you away from the core message, but if done well (in the case of this movie and in his graphic novels) pictures can also enhance it.

DeNiro, Pesci, Scorsese and the Rolling Stones... what's not to like? Two things stood out to me: the dialogue and the camera work. Very well crafted. The length wasn't much of an issue until Sharon Stone started getting on my nerves (her character - not her as an actress).

The Exorcist 1973,  R)
The Exorcist
As a movie The Exorcist is an average flick - I mean let's face it the story sucks and the characters offer next to nothing that would make you feel their pain. The idea of being possessed is just about the freakiest concept to wrap your head around but I didn't think this movie did the best job in that aspect even though I don't judge horror movies based on their scare factor alone.

The inspirational music, the cinematography and the depth within each character portrayed is amazing when you consider how quickly this film was made and how low-budget it was. The acting was also phenomenal - FOUR actors including Talia Shire were nominated for Oscars.

Kill Bill, Volume 2 2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
The second film in the soon to be trilogy is not as great as the first but it does answer questions. It also explores the characters and the story behind the wedding chappel massacre better than the first although I was expecting action scenes to be less spaced apart... still good as hell.
212
Shadow of a Doubt 1943,  PG)
213
Mystic River 2003,  R)
Mystic River
This is a movie that would probabley be your average flick if it wasn't for Eastwood directing and Penn, Bacon and Robbins starring. Everyone played their roles to absolute perfection and each second is filled with dark suspense. The disturbing ending is what I expected (well the fact that it would be disturbing). This mystery is as intense as they come.

Spartacus 1960,  PG-13)
Spartacus
Kirk Douglas does a fascinating job as Spartacus in Stanley Kubrick's most mainstream and least-Kubrick film to his name. The film is 3 and 1/2 hours long, but it really doesn't drag much at all. There are several entertaining bits and several good performances (one from 11 time Academy Award Nominee Laurence Olivier).
