The Boogens 1982, R)And I thought CHUD was chintzy w/ the monsters when I watched it a few weeks ago but The Boogens out does it w/ its cheapness. That annoying dog even gets more screen time. For most of the majority of the Boogen attacks all we get is a tentacle & it takes until about the last 10-15 minutes for us to finally get a look @ the monster (why Boogen is pluralized is beyond me) but because the budget is so low it looks like a Muppet on crack. Brighter moments are found w/ the nudity which there could have been some more because when Anne-Marie Martin (from TV's Sledge Hammer!) gets dragged to the basement in a towel she never loses. It really could have been a nasty scene having her found all bloody & naked on the dirty basement floor. Oh well..cheap & formulaic if your into that kind of thing but Ive seen it done better |

The Boogeyman 1980, R)
The Boogeyman sounds better than it's execution because Ulli Lommel gives this simple tale of an evil spirit trapped inside a mirror a fair amount of confusion & (even w/ it's low running time) a sense of boredom. This also contains one of the most annoying little bastards in horror cinema that I was happy to see go by means of windowpane. Not as a grisly death as he rightfully deserved though...BOOGEYMAN!! |

The Forest 1983, R)
A backwood slasher; Im all in for that shit but The Forest really was a waste of time. I can usually buy into this formula but the makers try to twist it & it's just awful. This time our killer murdered his cheating wife, stalks campers in the woods while his ghost children give the campers aid. There are some unintentional gaffaws like dueling between a pitch fork & bicycle & some bad acting & writing but nothing that you would derive as entertainment. Even the theme song feels like a reject from KISS's Elder sessions. Amatuer hour all around that suckers into unsuspecting viewers like me in that have to watch every movie of this type |

Friday the 13th Part 3 1982, R)
Well I finally got to see this in 3D just not how it was originally intended (polorized) but rather in the old red and blue so needless to say the picture wasn't very crisp. Some of the gags worked (others didn't and some split the red a little too much causing me to close my eyes. that may have been from sitting too close to a large screen) and there was depth of field so it was all pretty good... not the greatest but it was fairly cheep and this is one of my favorite Fridays so it's good @ least a 3D effort was released even though this is probably just a print of the Japanese lasar disc that was released years ago that I heard about |

Halloween III - Season of the Witch 1982, R)
Halloween III is one of those movies that i hated when I originally saw it but has grown to love it making it a Halloween tradition. It's a lot in the vien of F13 part V that you don't have the main killer in it & therefore rebuked by loyal fans. For the longest time I was pissed that this movie detoured from the formula but Ive become pretty forgiving in my old age. If taken in the right frame of mind Season of the Witch is a lot of cheesy fun & one of the best 'bad' movies out there. Tom Atkins is fucking great (when isn't he?) w/ scenes of getting it on w/ a women half his age & exchanging drinks w/ the local wino. Highly quotable & watchable if you let your Michael Myers preconceptions go |

The Last Horror Film (Fanatic) (Fanatical Extreme) 1982, R)
Probably would have liked this one more if I wasn't so tired when I was watching it but enjoyed it a hell of a lot more from when I originally saw it when I was 13. Back then I was pretty well set on the Halloween/F13th formula when watching horror movies & this one just didn't cut it. Now it has a couple things going for it for me. Im a fan of Joe Spinell & here he's fucking sleazy hilarious @ times. Not as scummy as he was in Maniac (which this is sorta an unofficial sequel to) but scenes like when he has film image projected against him while he's rubbing his naked chest are funny/creepy. As well this takes place @ the 81 Cannes Film Festival & as a old school film buff it was a nice journey back in time |

Madman 1982, R)
This movie was done a lot better when it was called Friday the 13th part 2. My opinion has really dropped on Madman. I sorta liked it when I first saw it but this time I was bored & unimpressed. Completely uninvolving I couldn't care less if the cast lived or died. I could have taken a nap while it was playing in the background & gotten just as much out of it. As a rip off it could have been better but as it stands it falls into the bottom of the horror genre. Not that it's bad I just couldn't give a shit. Forgettable which is too bad because Madman Mars could probably rank up there w/ Cropsy from The Burning. That's not top tier but it's not bad company |

Pieces (Mil gritos tiene la noche) 1983, R)
You would figure that a chainsaw isn't a very discrete weapon to be creeping around the campus cutting up girl but these murders have no problem baffling the police. Stupid grubby fun that has a cringe worthy ending right up there w/ Sleepaway Camp that will have men everywhere holding their goodies in pain |

The Slayer 1982, R)
The majority of this movie is the rest of the cast looking for the first victim after he disappears. When the Slayer does show up it's not until the very end and there is no explanation to what exactly he is other then he was dreamed about..good pitchfork kill but no where in the caliber of The Prowler |

The Slumber Party Massacre 1982, R)
In a documentary I saw (the Rise & Fall of the Slasher) director Amy Holden Jones ran to this fodder's defense claiming its a feminist slasher about the fear girls have about losing their virginity (maybe that's why Cynthia Gibb went to go see it in Youngblood). Well other than having a very little (insane) man w/ a very large power drill it missed it's mark on that claim (& it was better exemplified in part II) unless you're going to pigeon hole every slasher that rips off Halloween, Last House on the Left, Friday the 13th & every other down the line as 'feminist'. W/ that being said it's tasteless and pretty fun catering to the 13 year old boy in all of us. |

Unhinged 1982, Unrated)
Another Video Nasty that was unjustly banned has a lot of really bad elements. For the most part it is nap inducing dull & the acting is grade z but there are moments that don't make you want to strangle yourself to death. The kills (only a few) aren't too bad, the cheesy synth music sorta grows on you & the twist ending almost makes it worth enduring the previous 85 minutes..oh & there are a couple of senseless shower scenes so the sugar boobies are appreciated amongst the incessant awfulness |

48 HRS 1982, R)
I had recently watched The Warriors & since I hadn't seen 48hrs in awhile I couldn't decide which Walter Hill movie I liked better but after watching this again I do like The Warriors more (it's a cult masterpiece in my eyes). This is Eddie Murphy's best movie though & I have loved it ever since I watched it on VHS back in 84 (I had to sneak to see it because the parentals thought that it had the word FUCK in it too much). One of my favorite buddy movies (even though Murphy & Nolte take a couple rounds out of each other) w/ a great score & a great villainous supporting cast in James Remar & Sonny Landham (damn I need to watch Fleshburn..I have it buried somewhere) |

Blade Runner 1982, R)
Watched the director's cut of this this time out & I can't really draw comparisons to the original cut that I saw some 20 years ago. It's been even longer since I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? that this is based on. Seeing it again it was familiar but I hadn't remembered too much of it. Blade Runner has some great design & a good cast especially Rutger Hauer but it really asks a lot of you to invest. I have no problem w/ that (even been a tad slow) but the payoff makes you question your involvement. Maybe I need to see a different cut of this film even though I don't agree w/ there being so many. There should actually only be 2 cuts of a movie. 1 - the one the studio or MPAA made you sacrifice on & 2 - the one that includes everything that hit the cutting room floor. Everything else is just a cash in |

Death Wish 2 1982, R)
8 years after the original Death Wish Michael Winner & Charles Bronson are back for more vigilante justice. Some punks (including Laurence Fishburne) break into Bronson place, rape/beat his housekeeper to death & kidnap/rape his daughter. As if she didn't go through enough in the first DW movie..I guess she did because she jumps out of a window & is impaled on a fence. The 2nd outing is completely trashy but still a very good time even though it had the mandatory casting of Jill Ireland that Bronson did more often then not. Her role is sorta pointless because Bronson didn't need a romantic interest unless she was going to get raped & beaten; like Bronson would ever have let that happen. Great Jimmy Page score. |

Diner 1982, R)
Although a bit long I always enjoyed Diner. A great cast involved even if it does include Steve Guttenberg. Im sure women won't enjoy this as much as men (maybe a bit because it does have Mickey Rourke when he was a sex symbol) because it doesn't speak to them the same way. It rings true to what is important to men in their 20s no matter now trival they are & we needed our haunts. Sadly I never had a diner that me & my friends hung out @. Sure we had coffes shops (that were owned by chains) & bars but I don't think it had the same effect even though we spent most of the time shooting the shit about the same things. No matter how much time passes many things just sorta seem to stay the same |

Eating Raoul 1982, R)
It's very rare that I laugh at a comedy. I can count of one hand how many I really like & those I probably consider classics. Eating Raoul is one that I found amusing but w/ a cult following I was really expecting more (both times I've seen it). Don't get me wrong; it's good but in a fringe cinema sorta way I just found that many times it just didn't live up to its potenial. I don't know if this was because of the low budget or that it was just too sublime for me. It made me chuckle in spots (or raised a smile). It just didn't make me laugh which I think a film like this should have. It has a person likr me in mind for it's audience so I don't know what the deal is. Mary Woronov is fun and I'm always glad when she shows up. She's the only reason I would buy into the cult of it all |

Firefox 1982, PG)
As a Clint Eastwood fan there's no movie of his that I out right dislike (even though I couldn't get through Paint Your Wagon). I was starting to question that for about the first 20 minutes of Firefox but I think it was because it wasn't what I was expecting after sorta thinking it was a really good movie of his that I had skipped over. The biggest problems are that it is so slow & Eastwood is sorta miscast. Directing this too something drew him to this project but Im not really sure what that might have been. You have to give into to it after awhile & it does become more enjoyable especially after he steals that jet after about an hour & 15 minutes but there are a lot better Cold War thrillers out there. A little disappointed but not a total loss |

First Blood (Rambo: First Blood) 1982, R)
In 2002 my best friend had brought First Blood over to my house & started my renewed obsession w/ movies. I had forgotten how much I loved this movie even reading the David Morrell book when I was 13. Rambo had sorta gotten a black eye over the years but his first outing was fucking outstanding. Stallone's one man army against that son of a bitch Sheriff Brian Dennehy...and you even get to hear David Caruso cry like a baby |

Forced Vengeance 1982, R)
You don't fuck w/ Chuck..or his hat. Norris @ some of his all time ass kicking best & if he's not knocking the shit out of you he's putting a bullet or a blade in your belly. That's pain my friend. I would put this as a top 6 of his flix & that is just because he's really on his kung fu cowboy game here. Although this has it's poor points like why the hell is he voice over narrating his life & one liners it does clips right along w/ very little lag. It's not balls out but it is bad ass for fans or his or 80s action w/out a lot of gun play. I'd rather see them kicked until they bleed anyways |

Let's Spend the Night Together 1982, PG)
It's hard to say what my favorite band is - either The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin but I don't love The Stones live. Their studio work is great but The Stones never give a mesmerizing performance even w/ all of Micks strutting. This is basically the Tattoo You tour which is alright by me because you get to hear classics like Neighbours, Black Limousine & Little T&A. Unfortunately you get Waiting on a Friend which Ive never been fond of. The Stones have never been what they were in the 60s but they sure are durable. My favorite is probably Thumbing Dice because it sound most like the studio version. I think I probably would have liked this more is it was just a recording of a Stone live performance instead of being cut from a few. W/ over 20 cameras to catch the action you would figure that the end product would be better. And then it has images of famine, prisoners decapitations & other atrocities. Bizarre & inappropriate..well you can't always get what you want but sometimes you get what you need. |

Q: The Winged Serpent 1982, R)
If not for it's budget limitations Q would be a good movie. Im surprised they haven't remade it. Since you have to skimp on the monster in the early goings this becomes a 2 plot movie were Michael Moriarty is driver on a diamond heist that goes wrong & finds the serpent egg & Carradine & Roundtree as investigating cops of the strange deaths from above..& then there's a subplot that it might all because of ritual killings. A little disappointed in this one though because I had played it up in my mind ever since I saw the cover to this on BETA @ my favorite video store @ 14..damn I wish we had a BETA player back in the day. DREAMWORLD had so many awesome movies on BETA. Well this one wasn't awesome but when you finally get to see the winged serpent it's not bad & I should actually give this an extra star for Richard Roundtree's glorious death |

Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip 2000, R)
In 1982 Richard Pryor was damn lucky to be alive. After setting himself on fire freebasing cocaine we could have easily lost one of the best comedian of my generation. Live on the Sunset Strip was more or less a come back for him even though he wasn't necessarily in top form. It's quite apparent that the incident had left Pryor a bit shaken & he seems a bit nervous being on stage again. That is until he gets honest about his addiction & the mishap that almost cost him his life. It's comedy w/ pathos & for a shining moment Pryor is @ his best. He's definitely @ his most real. Should have been called Richard Pryor Alive & Kickin |

Rocky III 1982, PG)
So the Rocky story shouldn't be new to anybody (if you haven't seen this series by now' have you been living in a cave? They show them on TV all the time.) I own the first 3 Rockys but I watch them if I ever catch them on. Part 3 is one of my favorites. The Rock is loaded & is beating one contender after after another. He even educated himself & got some sponsorship. Everything is going The Rock's way until Clubber Lang (magnificently played by Mr T) comes to challenge for the title. Rocky wants to fight Clubber but Mickey thinks it's suicide & tells Rocky that all his previous fights after Apollo were jobbers. That quite a slap in the face of reality thinking you're a fighting champion when your combatant has nothing to bring to the table. Rocky fights Lang & loses while Mickey dies in the back; Rocky world has fallen apart in just a little over 2 minutes. He's lost the EYE OF THE TIGER. In steps Apollo to train The Rock & it almost seems to be a lost cause because Rocky is a mess after losing the title, Mickey dying, & finding out he wasn't quite the man he thought he was because his previous title defenders weren't up to snuff. Can he find the EYE OF THE TIGER? Damn straight & he goes back to challenge Clubber for the title. As I said I really like part 3 because of Mr T & that it has a fantastic match w/ Hulk Hogan & Rocky. Great entertainment throughout & that Survivor song is fan-fucking-tastic..I should go & play it on Guitar Hero or maybe crack out my Rocky video game for PS2 & see if I can kick Clubbers ass. I never have before. It's pretty ugly but not as fucking ugly as Rocky getting his ass handed to him I their first fight...DEAD MEAT |
