Easy Money
A crime film with several sectors all made interesting based on the ethnic diversity of the criminals and cast. Everything is binded by a young man who is not meant to be a part of the world he so desperately desires for economic power and acceptance from the upper class.

Amores Perros
The first made but the second strongest and most genuine installment of Inarritu's 'death' series. Still incredibly written, directly and symbolically and thoroughly intriguing.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels 1999,  R)
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Guy Ritchie's first feature film shows you how good he is at putting together casts and jumbled messes that create a somehow crystal ending. This movie is hilarious (even for American standards) in a way that it almost shouldn't be. The calm attitude makes for a better setting then the alternative drama filled adventure. Although all parts to the story are funny and action packed, it may come too blurry and mixed up for some viewers.
Cidade de Deus (City of God) 2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus (City of God)
From the opening scenes you can see the strength in cinematagrophy that remains for the duration of the film. The narration is the introduction of the films characters which tell the story of the city of god. The outline is simple but utterly genius, the characters tell the city, the city is the story. American films about young hoods could never compare to this flick. The Brazilian grit and lack of care for human life makes it an unforgettable foreign film. One of the greatest drug related movie ever. Lil Ze is comparable to Tony Montana. Constantly on edge, compelling and dramatic. This gives you an insight into a life that most never scratch the surface of.
Snatch 2001,  R)
Exciting filming with freeze frames, slow motion clips and trick camera angles (rotating, upside down). Guy Ritchie holds to his normal expertise, comedy mixed with crime including all his regulars (Statham, Flemyng, Jones). Script is filled with clever one liners and word twisting that come across even better in different accent. Too similar to snatch and ending was not a desirable cliffhanger.
La Haine (Hate) 1996,  R)
La Haine (Hate)
Incredible cinematography to match the black and white dark feel to this short term story of three friends in the ghettos of France. It gives great insight in the lives of those against the police and the rage ('the hate') they feel against the laws corruption. Must see foreign film.
The Inbetweeners 2012,  R)
The Inbetweeners
If watching a trailer or reading a synopsis of this film gives any hope for potential, even in goofy comedic way, do not get your hopes up. It is the same film we have seen hundreds of times. From start to finish it is an annoying cliche with nothing original to the jokes except British accent's blurting them out. The plot is predictable, unoriginal and down right idiotic. I hoped never to see another spring break style film about virgins trying to get laid, this film is exactly that and even less humorous than it's predecessors. The conversations between the characters become head ache providing annoyances and the narration is just as pointless. Unbearable and was just about not possible to finish.
The Guard 2011,  R)
The Guard
Having spent some time in Ireland I can attest to the environment of this film. John Mcdonagh has some similar qualities of his brother Martin's films but lacks the strong natural talent of catching shots. As a Gleeson fan I find his role to be quite appealing but not his top work. He is a lurid, lonely and arrogant police officer whom expresses his anger on those around him. His interactions with Cheadle's character agent Wendell are priceless at first. Mark Strong, another talented European (UK) actor, does a mediocre job at playing a loathsome gangster. The conversations between Gleason and the gangsters are eerie and amusing. the relatonship between Gleeson and the slain officers wife was unnecessary. The last shoot out was cowboy like and half decent. The script is alright and interesting to some extent but will not keep the audience constantly on edge and entertained.
In Bruges 2008,  R)
In Bruges
The medium length shots with orchestra melodies gives a melancholy but satisfying feeling. Colin Ferrell's miserable attitude makes for quite humorous interactions with Brendan Gleeson. Ferrell's antsy self loathing is borderline hysterically funny. Gleeson acts as a charming father like mentor to the childish Ferrell. How Ferrell's gloomy feelings is explained by the traumatic murder of a child was surprising and a bit off putting. Although it ends up bringing a powerful drama to the script developing the main characters personality. The twist in the middle of the film makes for a over sensitive sob fest. Finness plays a haunting off the handle mad man that does an excellent job at getting his feeling across. The tension between Finness and Gleason is done perfectly. The ending was dragged on too long after starting off quite intriguing it instead became moronic. The potential for alternative endings could have made the overall film much better.
Bronson 2009,  R)
Dark indie style filming that is successful at keeping the viewers eyes wide. It would be hard to imagine a more receptive way of portraying the man Charles Brinson was. The Soundtrack pairs in a poetically chilling way to the violence. The narration paired with interview style monologue poorly used but overplays Bronson a bit. Hardy is dark and uses his voice and face gestures to convey the character darkness more than his overall acting. The play-esque scene to scene foundation is humorous adding an even more eerie feel. Although its supposed to be concrete procedure to show and not tell, the stage portions of the film are brilliant. A man without a heart, seemingly a flat out sociopath, gives reason and ideas behind his madness. The subject matter isn't for everyone, in fact most, but the childish ugly film is in the end quite worth watching.
