Definitely a horror classic but ultimately not a great film. Sean S. Cunningham likes to think of himself as a master of horror but this film is really just a rip off of Halloween. The ending is also a rip off of Carrie and the whole twist at the end is quite Hitchcockian. It is a tired scenario but to be fair, this was one of the first. Still, none of that really matters because it?s a horror film and you either love them or hate them. Tom Savini's SFX are still first class and this will always be one of the greats, even though it?s not that great! You know what I mean!

Maniac! 1980,  R)
Maniac!
A fantastic 80's horror film that's been really overlooked! Joe Spinell is brilliant as the Maniac and Lustig's direction is superb! Savani's gore effects and cameo are an added treat. Highly recommended for horror fans!

Creepshow
Sometimes bizarre but always very camp, it?s a horror/comedy classic. Highlights are The Bugs, Leslie Nielsen burying Ted Danson in sand, Tom Savani's cameo and Ed Harris dancing.

Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter
Stupid ending and bad acting, its much like the first three films, at least Savini is back!. You either love it or hate it really. Corey Feldman & Crispin Glover were good though, it?s worth watching for Glover's dance alone!

Day of the Dead 1985,  Unrated)
Day of the Dead
Day of the Dead has a great scene with a zombie listening to a Walkman. Zombies enter the 80's in this very enjoyable horror that's not as good as the previous two but is still one of the best in the genres!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
A couple of good scares and some decent make-up from Tom Savini aside, this film is not very good. Dennis Hopper's 'Bring it down' moment has to be one of the worst moments in cinema! Leather face was about as scary as a care bear and the end was painful. I'm a fan of Tobe Hooper but did he loose his voice during this film? Someone say cut for Christ sake! 2 stars purely for the radio station scene and unintentional laughs.

Night of the Living Dead 1990,  R)
Night of the Living Dead
A Romero remake starring Tony Todd and directed by Tom Savini! So, why isn't it very good? I think the acting let it down and the lack of gore (considering its director). Its a pointless remake for people who don't watch black & white films as far as i can see! I did however like the different ending, it was unexpected and nearly as good as the originals.

Dawn of the Dead 1978,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
Ten years after making the groundbreaking Night of the living Dead, Romero follows it up with, not so much a sequel, more of a continuation of a theme, with Dawn of the Dead. It is hands down the best Zombie movie ever and is also in the top 10 best horror films ever made. Hell, it's one of the best films ever made full stop!!

From Dusk Till Dawn
Great film. Two films in one really and the first time I saw it, I didn't have a clue it was a vampire movie. The script is a bit annoying at times though.

I was a little horrified when I heard they were remaking this film. firstly, what gives you the audacity and secondly, how can you improve on the best? The simple answer is you can't. That said, Snyder made it quite clear that this is a loving homage to the genres that is based on the original film but is not really a remake. He did a good job too, he might not be the most original director in the world but he is a faithful fan done (and doing) good.

Land of the Dead 2005,  R)
Land of the Dead
An entertaining enough Zombie film but it's far below George A. Romero's usual standards. There isn't the same feeling of dread or impending doom as there is with his previous work and better Zombie films have been filmed since his last Zombie film, Day of the Dead. The weakest but still enjoyable addition to the ongoing ??of the dead? zombie series.

Grindhouse 2007,  R)
Grindhouse
What a great idea, make two films back to back in the old grindhouse style. It could have been awful but luckily it wasn't, its very good! The fake trailers were very well done although Rob Zombie's effort is a bit weak compared to the others. I'd love to see Machete made into a real film! I think Planet Terror is much better for being cut down in its original print than the extended release but i think, and it looks as if I'm the only one, that Death Proof is much better in its extended version. Still, they could have both been extras on the DVD, why the producers decided to separate these films is a mystery to me, dumbass producers!

Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) 2007,  R)
Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror)
I think this film suffers from being separated from its intended twin as part of the Grindhouse experience. Although i enjoyed Planet terror, it is no way near as good as some of the films it tries to mock. Still, there are some original ideas here that I have to applaud, its just a shame that the years coolest poster turns out to be for the years most disappointing film! (Not the worst, just the most disappointing)

Machete
Much like many of the 70's Grindhouse/Exploitation movies, the film rarely lives up to the trailer. In that sense, it's a fitting tribute. It's not all bad though, you can take the film seriously when it doesn't take itself seriously - for the best part it's a fun and silly film. The only problem I had was that it seemed rushed. The intro was done in the grindhouse fashion, grainy scratched film, aged orange tint and bad cuts - why this wasn't extended to the whole film is beyond me (or did Rodriguez only direct the first bit?). The cast is great and there are some excellent scenes but the classic scenes from the trailer seem to be an afterthought. Enjoyable but it did seem like a way to make a quick buck rather than be a heartfelt desire from Rodriguez - who is capable of much more. Mind you, after watching the deleted scenes, it could have been a lot worse!
