OK truthfully i've been trying to review this for a while but im scared cos i know nothing i can say will do this film justice. But here goes. This film will totally mind fuck u! Calm down i'll explain. The violence and racism in this film while extremely distrurbing in any other context, aren't in this film. When watching, it draws you in in such a way as to make you both understand and sympathise with Derek's character. The use of both colour and black & white filmography helps you understand the story through present and flashback scenes. Edward Norton once again Pulls of another FANTASTIC performance, with great acting from the supporting cast especially Edward Furlong! Everyone should see this film once even if thay hate it! (which i doubt) because it has such impact and power. Although it focuses on young white supremeicy, i got a stronger impression that the underlaying theme of anger, exploited greif and corruption of young minds, has a much more chilling outlook!
Told ya it wouldn't do it justice but what else can i say!
I just wanna say that Norton was robbed! He should have got an OSCAR for this performance. It's haunting how good he is!

Keeping the Faith
Loved it, Loved it with a Capital L!

Very funny, flows very well not a single moment where its slow or dull. The atmosphere is very enjoyable and light, but not too sickly sweet or overtly romantic. The whole thing has great comedic parts and its very clever. With a great array of characters.

Fantastic cast also Ed Norton as Catholic preist Brian, Ben Stiller as Rabbi Jake and Jenna Elfman as Anna. All shine in the role with the male leads providing excellent compasions and boucing of each others performances.

The direction is great too, lays the plot out simply and effortlessly, no confusion nor difficulty. Just a lovely funny film. Also did i mention how good its feels to be sinful for lusting after said Blonde Clergyman?

The Score 2001,  R)
The Score
Well where to start? Cast? Ok so we got Edward Norton as young thief Jack or mentally retarded Brian.Tthen we have Robert De Niro as Nick who's aiming to finish his career on a high. Nick's love interest in the form of Angela Bassett and his Long time friend and mentor Max, played by the legend that is Marlon Brando. The cast alone should have people rushing to see this movie.

So next we have the plot. Typical hiest movie, golden spectre worth millions is housed in a extremely secure building in a safe that is virtually unpickable. Jack/ Brain is the inside guy a slow mentally challenged janitor who cases the joint and plans the hiest with Nick'c expert knowledge. Has the great tension between the two thiefs and their distrust and disapproval is constantly being played out. Can they work together to the big pay off or will they clash heads in epic proportions and lose the "Score"?

The Acting is truelly excellent to watch and De niro as usual just glides throught this movie with superb acting and the smooth charm that everyone loves. Brando is great too providing the wise words and setting up the scene and providing information on Nick and on the hiest. However its Norton that steals every scene, whether its as cocky and flash Jack or the loveable (and increadably well acted) Brian. He provides a freshness to the plot and has some really witty and darkly funny lines.

Excellent Hiest movie, great cast, excellent acting, beautiful settings and a Fantastic plot. However its the hiest scenes and the very final scene that really made me love this film. Yeah Jack when did you start to think you were better that Nick?

Someone once told me always end with a quote so I will...... (duh it'll be after the reveiw!)

Superb acting once again from both Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins. Lecter is truelly spinetinglingly chilling in this, I felt myself hanging off his every word and the chemistry between Hannibal and Will Graham is overflowwing!

Ralph Fiennes turns in a top notch (if somewhat naked at times) performance of the twisted "Tooth Fairy" or Red Dragon as he likes to be known. Also Emily Watson adds the romance which helps to put the dragon's mind in the tail spin!

I would throughly recommend this to all, ps if u don't enjoy it I suggest u stay the hell away from me then cos u aint worthy!

Ahh the quote in the words of Dr Hannibal "the Cannibal" Lecter...." Such remarkable bravery... i think i'll eat your heart!...."

Down in the Valley
Personally i did get it. i mean i love Ed Norton because he's stellar in all his roles and this was no escepcial. Obviously not on the level as Fight club or American History X, but he carries this role very well. The supporting cast are great, wood performs well, but its David Morse and Rory Culkin that shine here the most for me.

The part i don't get is it is preceved that Harlan is this mentall unbalance creepy/ crazy Cowboy, who falls for Tobe and realises that her father is abusive so trys to save her and her brother. But what actually gets shown is a film thats not particularly strong on the twistedness of the character, nor is he actually that crazy, more as a bit slow and uneducated really. I think they could've made it more intese psyched Harlan up a bit made him more delusional, more creepy, played on the silent calm exterior with a crazy bastard inside ready to be unleashed, but they didn't and i thin it's a same because it could've been so much maore than it was.

I did enjoy it the screen play was very emotional and pretty sweet. However it did run rather slow at times and a few parts were just dull. Just not what i expected, but fun to see.

Kingdom of Heaven
Holy Crap !!!! Why was Orlando Bloom cast as the leading player in this film??? It would've been sooooo much better if they got someone who was able to emote and tap into the raw emotion that was needed from the character when leading his people into battle and risking thier lives. Sadly Bloom proves that although a pretty face and a genius with either a cutlass/sword and a bow, he just isn't credable as a rousing leader. I sure as hell wouldn't give my life to a cause after the dull speeches he gives and hell i love a brutal battle. Excellent performances from Edward Norton, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Liam Neeson. Best part is the Fantastically brutal and epic fight scenes!

well what a fantastic movie, very underestimated as it slipped under the hype of the matrix films. Christian Bale is fantastic in this as is Sean Bean. the plot is solid and well thought out, it is fast paced and the fights and gun battles are marvelous! for a film trying to portray an emotionless world this really shines because of the harshness of the characters awakening to the society! very very good film!

X-Men
"Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single cell organism into the dominant species on our planet. This process is slow, normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few millenia evolution leaps forward......." (Professor Charles Xavier)

As an opening to the trilogy I found this to be a really great start. It provides you with enough to entertain but also think about the issues in a real sense. Yeah i know mutants with kelekinetic power dont exist and nor is there a beefy hunk of studmuffin with protuding metal spikes out there. (Trust me i've looked really hard!!)

But its able to draw the reality into it, by using the Holocaust, Slavery and other detremental problems that arise from just being different to the "norm". Also there is a strong air mostly via Rouge's character in the conflict of youngsters to be excepted and to take the hard and morally correct road.

X-Men introduced us to a great selection of characters to kick off the films. Firmly establishing the story of Wolverine ( played remarkably by Hugh Jackman) which runs through all the films. We have the upstanding good guys...Cyclops (James Marsden), Storm (Halle Berry), Jean Gray (Famke Jansen) and Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart). They take in the troubled Rouge (Anna Paquin) and try to protect her from the bad guys. Who include Magneto (Sir Ian McKellen), Sabretooth, Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) and Toad (Ray Park).

The acting from all is superb and has enough good story telling dialogue to draw insight and understanding, but also great action and fighting scenes to keep you entertained.

Probably the reason I like it so much as side from the male leads, is that is not heavy. The dialogue is smooth flowing uncomplicated just delevering the information that needs to be said in a friendly style. There is also a great mix of comedy and boyish rivalry between Wolverine and Cyclops leading to great funny lines and moments. I also love seeing the vunerablity in all the mutants through different stages. But some of the better more dramatic scenes befall onto the linkage of Xavier and Magneto, which they play stunningly.

I must admit though this strong Maleness runs through too prevalently. Yes there are female characters, but they just don't seem to have the power and pesaze that the male mutants seem to portray. The exception to that being Mystique who freeking kicks ass and demands respect from start to finish. I mean bravo she manages to trash wolverine with sytle poise and elegance, all without breaking step nor losing her feminity. But then wearing that blue suit how could she be anything BUT sexy.

Great start and good fun! :)

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Well my cinamatic viewing of PotC 3 was almost spoiled by the pompous idiot who cackled like a maniacal hyena throughout. However Captian Jack Sparrow to the rescue, and WHAT a rescue it was!!!!

I had such fun, packed to the rafters with humour both verbally and visually. Johnny Depp sparkles again as Captain Jack SAVVY!! The supporting cast are wonderful too, Fantastic acting and a delight to watch. And Miss Swann finally gets to kick some ass and become a top class pirate, here's to girl power! Once again that DAMN monkey steals every scene he's in. But the best scenes are Jacks endless conversations with his imaginary selfs, and the fantsatic epic battle scene at the end. The CGI is stunning, great action scenes and some very pionent scenes too.

Small downer is that the plot is a bit shifty as in its almost as if they have combined 2 stories into one film. And even at nearly 3hrs long it flew by and i was always entertained. So if your looking for a very funny non-interlectually stimulating , action packed intreging film then this is it. Ps stay till after the credits cos theres a small scene slipped in there. the sneaky buggers!

My final thought, applause for a DISNEY film that's opening scene is of men, women and children being hanged for piracy!! Gotta love the irony, its right up there with the assisted suicide of lemings off cliffs????

America's Sweethearts
I don't know what it is that I like about this film. It has none of the usual elements I tend to be drawn to like blood, gore, drama, thrill, action, supernatural, crime or violence. But something keeps making me watch it again.

Its not even a fantastic film, simple plot, some OK acting, lackluster characters, romantic story and very very very bad acting/accent from Hank Azaria.

I just don't know, i love Billy Crystal's character Lee, and his acting is pretty good and he provides great comic relief like when Gwen's Doberman gets a little excited with crotch sniffing Crystal suggests "a little to the right...ahhh right there!"

Also i loved John Cusack as Eddie Thomas. Perfectly amount of sweet, neurotic, Totally fucked up mentally, misguided hopeless lovesick puppy. But his leading ladies, Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones, are Shit with a capital SHIT!! no passion no substance Zeta Jones the mega bitch act more like a spoilt child but with out the balls to be the nasty cow she's trying to be. And Roberts is just annoying, whiny and weak.

Another 2 Characters/ Actors i really liked were Stanley Tucci as the studio boss, who thinks Eddie's suicide would be the best thing for the premiere as it would boost dvd sales! And Christopher Walken as the Crazy eccentric movie producer holding the film hostage from his uni-bomber shed on his secluded estate!

Maybe its just lighthearted and funny enough to relax to but i still think to me this is great!

Apt Pupil 1998,  R)
Apt Pupil
Apt Pupil. Indeed especially in the art of manipulation of people and blackmail for his own sadistic quest for knowledge and his own way.

Firstly let me say that my review of this film is going to be quite harsh considering that I loved the book by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman). I mean the film itself isn't that bad, in fact its quite good, thrilling atmospheric, gritting and dark content with a great story with very relevant twists and turns. But in my opinion it isn't a stitch on the book, and as with alot of King's books that get transfered onto the big screen the point, drive and almost Aura of the film fails to get developed.

Ok so the story is after a school project on the holocaust, golden boy Todd Bowden (Brad Renfro) recognizes a local man as a Nazi war criminal, but rather than do the normal thing and call the authorities he doesn't. Instead slightly creepy Todd decided he is going to blackmail Kurt Dussander. What ensues is the dangerous relationship, power plays between the two and Todd's slippery slide into the delusional horrors of Dussander's Stories of Genocide.

When trying to grasp the gravity and decrepit nature of the relationship is where the most let downs occur, it doesn't delve deep enough into the Surreal sub reality that Todd conjures from the subject of concentration camp conditions, the horrific experimentation and sexual, mental and physical barbaric abuse from the Nazi Officers within death camps. The whole concern of the Book is to show how his disturbing fascination leads to his "golden" nature being tarnished and him becoming a shadow of his youthful exuberant self.

Alot of the direction in the film is on the shifts of powers between first Todd as the aggressor and Kurt as the submissive, Then to the twist in power and the sinister deviance of Kurt as he breaks down and wears on the "goodness" perceived from Todd's family/ friends.

Also the nastiness and spite the Todd exhibits at the end toward Mr French (David Schwimmer) shows the effect of how his morbid quest for info, which is of a risque, grotesque or graphic variety, truelly has had.

The acting from Sir Ian McKellen is superb. He is almost haunting because he plays Kurt Dussander with such conviction. He appears to just be a frail old man but still get to see that underlaying deviance and strength of the monster he once was and as shown clearly still is.

Sadly the other lead male is a poor excuse in that role. Brad Renfro plays the twisted Todd Bowden, very badly. its not that he can't act, rather that he can't act in the way the role called for. The character was Supposed to be cold, calculating, manipulative, Supremely spiteful and self centered with total regard for others feeling when it concerns his own personal development. Renfro lacked all the above for the majority, the expection being the last scene with Schwimmer where you do get that stark scary glimpse of the fiercesome psycho.

And finally a quick note on Schwimmer's Character of the School Guidance Councilor Mr French. Good acting mostly a little wooden but not a huge part so doesn't spoil anything. However That Porn Star Mustache does prevent him having ANY Credibility when he's in a scene. It really is ridiculous.

Not bad But not Fantastic, Better Off reading the book.

WARNING REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

This is without a doubt my favorite Thriller film ever. It manages to draw on so many ideas and themes that some part is likely to appeal to everyone. No matter your interest you will get something out of this movie. Most will just enjoy the thrill and excitement at the scary/ jumpy parts and some of the visually creep/ gory Ghosts. Others may relate to the young boy Cole's Feeling of being different, bullied and general feeling of trying to be accepted and comfortable with his life. Others may appeal to the family and relationship problems that are added around the central theme. What ever that keeps your attention is just a bonus when this fantastical rolled out film is broadcast before your eyes.

The plot: Top Child Pyschologist Malcom Crowe (Bruce Willis) world is rocked when unable to save a former patient (played excellently by Donnie Wahlberg) who commits suicide in his home. Trying to redeem his mistakes he tries to help young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) , who claims to be tormented by forcefull Ghosts and grotesque visions of the undead.

The casting in this movie is just so increbaly spot on that i can not imagine anyone else playing the roles. Considering that Bruce willis character of Dr Crowe is so unlike his characters of past films, Not a trace of the Foul mouthed Ass kicking John McClaine, nor the 'Jack the lad'. funny guy of Hudson Hawk. Regardless of his other roles, this is truelly one of his best acting performances to date. Very beleiveable as the understanding doctor. Calm, reassuring polite nature, very professional without losing the humanity, as is shown by his troubled relationship with his wife and in his "bullshit" outburst when Cole tells him he's a freak.

And as for little Haley Joel Osment, wow that kid is so talented. He's able to play the role with such conviction that you don't doubt for a minute his revelation that "I See Dead People" is a pyschological imparement or delusion. He plays the adaption from being a very nervous, quite very trouble little boy, who through his work with Dr Crowe is able to deal with his 6th Sense and grow into a more "normal" happier confident young boy. Near the end you feel not just see the acceptance of Cole with his peers (E.g : differences in the scenes at the begining and end of the film involving the stuttering Stanley teacher) And with his class mates. You also see his progression within the relationship with his single mother(Toni Collette) to where by at the end he is finally able to admit his supernatural abilities to her.

I think that Toni collette was also a great accompniment to Cole's character. She acts very well revealing the vunrability and confusion of the mothers position. but also you see the utter devotion and love for her son. You get a nice range of emotion between the family members from the deception she feels at Cole stealing the bumblebee pendent and denying it. to her shock at discovering obscene text he has writen, to her protecting him when she thinks he's being bulled and hurt.

The direction in this film is what delights me, M. Night Shyamalan. He is a very intellengent fellow and he implores so much in this to chill and spook people. A master in building suspense and creating tension, using good dialogue, actors, camera angles and great soundtrack. What i noticed though, while he is very clever and developes the story this way, more over is that he plays on human nature and that we just assume things are the way they are being perseved.

Spoiler part: So in reference to the assuming. SO to start of with when Malcolm is shot, rightly so when the film progresses we just assume that he must of survived because we think from the way its shot he is interacting with others eg he's talking to Cole.
- Then when Cole come home and see Crowe sitting with his mum, we just assume that see is being cold to Crowe because she doesn't like the fact Cole is seeing a Pyschologist. Also the reason she doesn't even mention his throughout the entire movie.
- Another Part is at the Restuarant between the doctor and his wife Anna. We just assume she's pissed with him because he's late to thier anniversary dinner and because she says Happy anniversary we think she's actually interacting with him. Also another time where she is getting very close to her helper at the shop and the window is smashed we think she just doesn't see malcolm but clearly he wasn't actually there.

Another occurance is the seemingly innocent fact that the door to the basewent area where Crowe works, we think it's just been locked by his wife, we then find out is blocked up.

All these little seemingly overlooked happenings that build this air of Dr Malcolm Crowe being Very much alive and Kicking, only adds to the "kick yourself for missing it" factor when the final scene plays out and you discover that the Dr perished a year ago at the hands of the troubled patient.

X2: X-Men United
My favorite scene in this movie is without a doubt Magneto's excape, when he pulls the iron out of the gaurd's blood straight through his body and wrecks his plastic prision.

Mostly what I liked about this film is that it both continues to draw on the characters already shown in X1 but also is able to effectively bring in new ones like Nightcrawler and Pyro.

You also get to see a more human side to some of the characters which provides some touching scenes like between Storm & Nightcrawler, Jean & Logan, Bobby and Rouge. And you also get to see that dark streak in some that hasn't yet been expanded on yet for instance Pyro's need for power and exhibition of his flametastic skills, as well as Jean's progression into a more advanced mutant.

Another thing that was good in this movie was the unification of the Mutants as apossed to their conflicting factions in X1.
The whole unification against an common foe adds to the famly element that was being established via the first film. With everyone from Magneto to Rouge to nightcrawler striving to free Xavier and prevent the corruption and usage of mutants by Striker, it just makes you route for them even more.

The only thing i found a little odd about this movie was partailly the direction it takes. It starts off with logan on a mission to find out about his past he finds nought....comes home Xavier gets taken blah blah blah for an hour and them blam (oh right we were gonna explain about wolverine right)..."we almost forgot we'll just bung in some info on it at the end...better still lets tell the story by having him get beaten up by another ademantiam enhanced chick mutant...we can even give her a cool original name like Deathstrike". * all cast and crew nod heads in nervous agreement*

I guess what i mean is that the story is almost split between them uniting against Striker on his using mutants to do bad things therefore creating there own bad image. And also because he has kidnapped Xavier, Cyclops, mutant children and intends to wipe out the rest. The other part of the film is about Striikers involvement in the experiments that created the Wolverine. I think its just too much of a jumo between the 2 concepts, there isn't hardly any linkage for the whole middle of the film.

Great special effects (Oh love Logan's revival from a bulet to the head ) and lots of great action scenes including Pyro oblitterating police cars, the final scenes and the adimantiam showdown RAWRRR!!!
