There is something precious there with these boys which our western world has lost, even though we may be able to provide for things these boys dont have.

36	Paper Heart 2009, PG-13) Like everyone says, it is CUTE. I enjoyed watching it, but It is also contrived. Sorry to burst anyones bubble but it is somewhat obvious that Charlyne and Michael were set up or agreed to film this together. I am not saying there isn't an attraction there between them; they share an obvious connection in their awkward shyness and their childishly playful behaviour; that is appealing to the audience, thereby making it successful, but notice how this takes over the film? There are no further documentary interviews in the special features, slowly they even stop getting people on the street to comment. They go all the way to France and they barely get any footage worth using in the film; it is simply to film Char's unhappiness & to see Paris. The original purpose lost. Just to hammer the nails in further, there are certain shots, like the front cover of the movie, that could not be taken if this was all filmed as it was happening. The psychic even seemed to pick up on this. Honestly the intentionality defeats the film's premise. Movies exploring love are a vast genre, documentaries on the subject few, but I highly recommend NINA DAVENPORT'S ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID. That being said, I really loved the little stories depicted by constructed sets, the answers during the interviews were good! I especially liked hearing the gay couple's perspective (I would have liked to see more men talking and telling stories) and seeing Char's reactions to Michael reminded me of my first loves, so in the end I did truly enjoy this. Perhaps I will find out one day that it was completely genuine. Perhaps I will drive the 30min or so to Brampton, find Michael's house and chat with him about it...
