Classic Dustbin Hoffman in Mike Nichols?s best film to date. Anticlimaxes have never been so good!

Regarding Henry
The acting wasn?t bad but the plot was terrible! Unremarkable.

Wolf 1994,  R)
Wolf
Wolf is quite dated now and it's very cheesy but take it with a pinch of salt and a knowing wink and you'll enjoy it. Mike Nichols is quite a hit and miss director but this is the first of his films where I've been right in the middle with.

Not a bad remake but I would recommend the original French film over this.

Closer
Patrick Marber is a funny writer eh! No pun intended, it's just hard to associate The Day Today with Closer. It's like a really rude version of something Yasmina Reza might write I thought. I'm all for anti-rom-coms though and this is the best adaption of a theatre production I can remember seeing (Interview is really good too but not as accomplished). The acting and the dialogue are both brilliant, although Julia Roberts probably wasn't worth the fee. I can find very little at fault with the film but I didn't really like it, the characters are unlikable, sure they're written that way and performed accordingly, I just couldn't really empathise or relate to them which took some of the enjoyment away from me somewhat.

Charlie Wilson's War 2007,  R)
Charlie Wilson's War
It?s funny, this is the history of one of the most serious turn of events effecting the world today. We all know where it?s led so far but no one knows how it?s going to end, probably badly, yet Mike Nichols has somehow demonstrated the importance and impact of this issue while giving us a quite funny and amusing film. I suppose that?s due to the quirky characters involved, Hanks, Seymour Hoffman and Roberts never underplay or overplay their roles and no one loses sight of the films main objective. Education isn?t usually this entertaining but it?s tastefully executed and assessable to all! It?s brilliant in fact!
