Depressing Endings

Movies with endings so depressing you almost want to give up on life....not really but almost. Just a bunch of downer endings.

This was simply amazing and totally blew me away as a longtime horror fan.The french new wave of horror is something that I hope lasts awhile and doesn't become watered down by american studios like J horror.

I Know My First Name Is Steven (The Missing Years)
Not overly boring but not overly entertaining or interesting either. This would have been better if it weren't a Tv movie, because all the dramatic moments were cut off for commercials. Most of the characters seemed kinda half baked and under developed except for the nasty pedophile. They showed more of his personality than anyone else in the whole movie during the first half. I do think that Corin Nemec did a great job during the second half of the movie playing the older steven. His struggle with trying to get used to his family again and his constant bulling at school really show off his acting chops. All in all this is a good time waster for a couple hours when you have nothing else to watch and want to see a lifetime movie from the 80s but that's about it. This movie sorta focuses on blaming the parents for the Steven's abduction and almost makes the sickening nerdy pedophile as almost a savior that takes care of him and don't go into showing how much of an absolute monster he is. They also play down the actual rape and molestation of the victim and show him act as if he has no bad feelings towards the man who abused him for close to 7 years. Looking back on this, it seems way too Tv movie stupid to be taken seriously.

This movie has been over hyped by every single person online and I went out of my way and bought it. Come to find it, the movie is very half baked and it leaves you very angry and cheated at the end. Not saying a movie has to have a happy ending but this is seriously lacking in alot of places.

Hobo With a Shotgun
Wow I must say I'am totally blown away(pun intended) with how great this is. The movie starts right off with action, gore and excitement. Rutger Hauer is a criminally underrated actor and I'm so glad he gets to show off his chops in this. I really cared for the prostitute character Abby and really got into the relationship between her and the hobo. I thought the actress who played her Molly Dunsworth did an excellent job for someone who isn't that well known of an actress. I thought the action and effects were spot on for the most part, with only a few exceptions. I loved how well the story flowed together and how the pace was fast but gave the actors room to chew scenery. A very tight running time that left me wanting more when it was said and done.

The few negatives I would have to say are, the over the top villains that became very annoying right off. I would also have to say a couple gore effects came off as somewhat silly, but if you don't take the movie super seriously you can look past that stuff. I enjoyed this for what it was but somewhere deep down wondered what it would be like if it wasn't played for gory laughs. This movie does make somewhat of a hard lined political statement about homeless people, and the fact that it is a real problem that still isn't anywhere near the top of any countries priority list. All in all if you're a fan of over the top gory revenge, vigilante, action films...with a slight comedic edge, then you can't go wrong with this.

Simply Amazing. This takes what is essentially a remake to the 1979 young men in prison movie Scum, and improves and expands the story bringing it to 2009. If you ever wanted to see a realistic movie about juvenile offenders, that can out do 1983's bad boys with Sean Penn, I strongly recommend you see this.

I just got done watching this beautiful masterpiece of a film and all I can say is wow. I'm just in awe of how real and charming this was right down to the very end. This film shows gives you a realistic view of how teenage punks squatted together in old run down houses in california during the early to mid 80s. Brilliantly directed by Penelope Spheeris, she adds her touch to whatever movie she presents and this was one of her earliest works. No the acting or dialog is not perfect, yes some of it can seem alittle silly at times. That's what makes this movie so good is because it feels like actual real punks that were plucked off the streets and told to act in front of the camera. The only person I recognized during this whole movie was Flea from the Red Hot Chili peppers and that's about it, he only had a few scenes which was good because I'm not a huge fan of him as an actor. Everyone else did a fantastic job being first time actors. I thought the little kid punk did a great job and was an excellent plot device that plays to greater effect at the end of the movie. The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars was because there were a few scenes that didn't seem to go anywhere and kinda just wondered about instead of getting to the point. Another negative I'm sorry to say were the 4 minute punk performances by 3 different bands that really didn't add that much to the movie. If they had bits and pieces of songs throughout the movie that would have been better, but it feels like something really dramatic or funny will happen with the characters then they break away to focus on a punk band for 4 or 5 minutes, and that to me was a shame. I really liked the characters and wanted to see them get into more mischief or show them having more interactions with the towns people and each other. I felt like those punk performances even though somewhat nice weren't something that needed to be a focus for that long while the characters in the movie just sat and watched. That being said I loved the rest of the movie! I sorta wondered what it would be like to live in a big empty run down house, with a bunch of punks almost like a big hippie commune in a way but with less hair. I'd say if you're a big fan of punk music like me especially 80s classic punk and like raw realistic 80s drama's that aren't perfect then this would be something for you.

This should have been called..."The Everybody and their brother Riders" because that's pretty much what it was. You had all the Carradine,Keach,Guest and Quaid brothers as western outlaws, who rob trains, stage coaches and blow away sheriffs.
This was a pretty good early 80s western effort directed by one of my favorite directors...Walter Hill. Coming off the comic book like action packed gang movie "The Warriors" this was a totally different direction than I think most people expected from him but it was just as good as his other more well known work. One of the best westerns ever In my opinion and if you haven't seen this, you're really missing out.

Probably the greatest movie I can think of mostly about the real life cocaine industry in the mid to late 70s and early to mid 80s. This is based on the real life story of former pot dealer turned coke emperor George Young. Very sad all together when you it gets right down to it.

What an overrated turd of a movie...seriously!!! If you honestly truly think this movie is a masterpiece you need some help. I appreciate what Gus Van Sant was trying to say with this but the execution (no pun intended) flat out sucked. Why do we need to see 15 minutes of someone walking down a hallway or developing a picture? Yes I know its supposed to realistic but not that damn real. I also didn't get why some of the scenes were repeated with different angles. It sorta seems to me like Gus knew he only had about 30 minutes of an actual movie here..... then stretched it into an hour and a half. His other movie the last days was a giant overrated shitfest as well.

If you want a good Van Sant movie I guess his stuff like Goodwill hunting is worth a watch but his no budget independent stuff is for the birds. I gave this 2 and a half for the subject matter but the rest of this movie can go jump in a lake for the most part. Oh and more thing wtf is up with the shower scene? Where the hell did that come from and what was the point of that? Kinda seems to me like Old Gussy has some issues to work out if he thinks something like that adds to his film. In case you don't know what im talking about (Spoiler Alert) The two killers decide to take a shower together and say "Looks like we're gonna die today" then one mentions how he's never kissed anyone and they start to make out...then it goes to the next scene. Wtf? Why did we need that? I'm not anti gay but that just seemed like it was put in for shock value and nothing more. All in all this was pretty terrible and not the great classic like everyone says it is.

Yes I know Gus Van Sant is one of those directors hipsters and movie geeks will tell you have to like but this movie didn't knock my socks off...and his direction is very lazy for the most part. I think hes ok when he has a big studio telling him what to do but besides that hes kinda meh as a director. If you want a truly chilling portrait of teenage life watch Kids or anything else by Larry Clark...he's much better at that kind of movie.
