My only criticism is that this was way too tidy. Unrealistically tidy. He comes to a crescendo and then gets heard, gets accepted, gets help, and gets better just by telling people because *togetherness is magic*. Up until they pretty much presented the polar opposite of the truth about the way people suffering from depression, anxiety, pstd, and general fuckery are treated by society irl, this was really really good. Except for Emma Watson's hair. I only mention this because her hair has always gotten my attention with it's BLAM of oHellYes. So. Emma Watson's hair may be mortal after all UPDATES TO FOLLOW.

Melancholia

I got suckered into this thinking it was going to be some planet colliding science fiction. But it's just a bunch of people having a normal depressing dysfunctional family drama. And then unrelated to all that -as if it had just been character development (was it???)- And then those characters offhandedly notice that the planets are going to collide. Right at the very end. Like the last half hour of the film. It's like they had a story without any real plot, and couldn't find a convincing way to end the ...nonstory. so they destroyed the planet, the end.

Everything Will Be Ok
Warning:
Depression

:(
Beautiful, sad. It's basically a journal of depression, and our society's responses to depression. Makes me want to cry. Hertzfeldt has this way of making you really FEEL, while at the same time, ignoring the audience, and allowing the characters to be only inwardly facing. This is very privat5e and very personal.
Amazing style.

[It's for the good of the native. It's the white man's burden]
"Here let me rape you for your own good, you'll really enjoy it, you know you want it. It's the same thing - the colonialist's mentality is a rapist's mentality. And all those polemics that are used to defend a rapist - it's always the fault of the victim, she flirted, she wore the wrong clothes, she teased, she did this, she did that. The rapist's argument- apologetic, defensive posture. Which is hackneyed, in the extreme. It's transparently see-through. It's exactly correlated to the arguments colonists use to justify colonialism."

Well that was sickening.
