Lat sau san taam (Hard-Boiled) 1992,  R)
Lat sau san taam (Hard-Boiled)
Arguably the greatest action movie ever. The bullets and the body count keep piling up until the insane finale in a burning hospital. If this movie doesn't get your action gland pumping, you are truly dead to the world.

Saat po long (S.P.L.) (Kill Zone)
Killer action scenes and one of the best knock-down, drag-out fights I've ever seen on film between Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen make this otherwise predictable cops and crooks movie worthwhile entertainment.

Dao huo xian (City Without Mercy) (Flash Point) (Fuse) (The Signal)
I'll give it to you straight: the story is weak but the action is fantastic. There you go, enjoy. Donnie Yen is a veritable patron saint of butt whoopings in this flick and his final fight with Collin Chou is a thing of savage beauty. As far as Yen films go, It's not as great as "SPL", but marginally better than "Dragon Tiger Gate" and a definite step up from "Seven Swords." If you're looking for a quick shot of Asian action, pick this one up and shoot it into your veins, my fellow action junkie.

Lung fu moon (Dragon Tiger Gate)
Donnie Yen is definitely establishing himself as the premiere action star of Asian cinema. In "Dragon Tiger Gate" he proves once again he can be the ultimate badass, showing off some truly awesome moves. DTG moves at a brisk clip, until it stumbles with a meandering middle before it blasts off again with a lightning fast climax. The main problem with DTG is that the effects most of the time look as if they're straight out of a video game, giving it a disjointed feel. If that's what you're looking for, knock yourself out. Actually, this movie looks a lot more like Double Dragon than Double Dragon ever did. Go figure...

Chat gim (The Seven Swords) 2005,  R)
Chat gim (The Seven Swords)
You can tell this has been cut down from a nearly four-hour original movie to two and a half. Beautiful cinematography and editing are harmed by a wandering storyline without focus and sometimes wooden performances.

Jet Li's Fearless (Huo Yuan Jia) (Legend of a Fighter)
One of Jet Li's best films and an exciting martial arts flick. Great fight scenes and solid acting make it a must see for any action fan.
29
Hero 2002,  PG-13)
Hero
Gorgeous-looking but ultimately hollow action/drama epic that leaves you feeling a little empty when it's all over.
30
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu) 2004,  PG-13)
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu)
A beautiful and haunting action romance that surpasses Yimou's Hero in every way. Amazing fight sequences and lush cinematography make the movie pop in a big way.
31
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long) 2003,  PG-13)
32
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower) 2006,  R)
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower)
Great action, costumes and cinematography along with an inspired performance by Chow Yun-Fat (or Yun-Fat Chow) highlight this Zhang Yimou film. It's good entertainment, but not a masterpiece like Yimou's House of Flying Daggers. It's better than the slightly disappointing Hero, however.
33
Fulltime Killer 2001,  R)
Fulltime Killer
Good storyline and impactful action scenes highlight this otherwise by-the-numbers hitman versus hitman saga.
34
Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs) 2002,  R)
Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs)
One of the best cops and crooks potboilers ever made from any country. The tense scene with the cell phones is a now-classic moment.
35
The Eye (Gin gwai) 2002,  R)
The Eye (Gin gwai)
One of the scariest movies of all time. People should get their facts straight and realize this is from Hong Kong, not Korea or Japan. Huge difference, folks.
36
The Killer (Dip huet seung hung) 1989,  R)
37
Saat yan faan (Murderer) 2009,  Unrated)
