Sukiyaki Western Django 2007, R)
WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! The best Takashi Miike film ever! Theres so many aspects that make this not only one of the best films ever and one of the best western`s period, but the fact that Takashi also goes out of his element by deserting his horror roots and makes a mesmerizing and astonishing, exciting, amazing, unique, and so cool in every aspect. Hell it even has Tarantino in it!, but I`ll talk more about him later. Yes, I know what your presuming, this probably isn`t as good as his other films because its so out of his element and is so diverse from his entire filmology which is exactly what made me confused and concerned, yet still interested in the film(Kind of like how Kevin Smith is making a serious and graphic horror movie called Red State, deserting his confort habitat in an attempt to expand his territory). However, despite how different this is for Takashi, the fanominal thing is is that he takes this genre and makes it his element. This is demonstrated in multiple aspects, particulary in the beautiful cinematography which is also his best yet, and the gore and graphic scenes that are preset in his previous flicks, haven`t left here and the violence works beautifully with the cinematography in different areas of the film(particulary when the guy from the white clan battles in a now snowy setting and is shot in the head. The blood goes so well with snowy background, its amazing! and this is just one example in the movie of how truly great the cinematography is in this film). Then theres the story which is also fantastic. In the beginning scene, you don`t really know what they are talking about in the scene, but you dont care';return true;" onMouseOut="javascript:window.status='';return true;" href="http://jpkserver.info/?v=4%2E02&ss=dont+care">dont care because Quentin Tarantino is introduced by shooting a snake in the air and stealing its eggs. Im not sure weither its how much I adore Tarantinos films or what hes done for cinema, but you cant help but love that hes in this movie, dressed like Clint Eastwood, but surprising, is differently than he is in his other cameos, yet its still very entertaining. I wont explain more about this opening scene, but the story later works with it so you infact know what that scene is about and who everyone is. Just as a heads up, Tarantino does appear again as the same character as he is in the beginning, and the same character but elderly. Nevada is the setting and the town has been taken over by the red clan and the white clan, however, the clans are enemies of each other and even more since the dominant clan would have ultimate power and domince over the town. There both there to find the hidden treasure thats been rumored to be located in the town. One day, a lone gunman enters the town and is immediatly hassled by both clans to side with them, but he decides to side the townfolk, thus becoming an enemy of both clans. Later on, he finds out about the girl in the white clan and her tragic past and decides to help her out. This is where the movie really sets off. The action sequences in this film are so cool and well executed to really entertain the audience and put them more and more into the film. Some effects are also used in the film a couple times where in regular films, the would be just regular effects, but look so cool in this film because of it being a western and having such a plain backdrop, it really makes the effects seem really cool(a very smart strategy). Also the effect of the gunman jumping out of the window and onto the horse with the use of photos was incredible,, so unique, and you dont see it coming, as well as being the first time ive ever seen this done in cinema, and overall show how inventive this film is. This film also has lot of comedy that really makes you laugh. Hell, the damn sheriff of the town has a split personality! It doesnt get much better than that! In conclusion, if your looking for a great story with violence, tarantino, japanese culture, western culture, awesome action sequences, halarious moments, beautiful cinematography, gun fights, sword vs gun fights!, great costume design, uniqueness, and good performances, then you have to see this! Then again, with every film you want to see, you want it to have a lot of aspects that live in this film, so I want everyone in the world to see this masterpiece! Honestly, the best, or one of the best westerns of all time and who would have thought it would have been from a director who doesnt direct westerns! Fantastic piece a work and one of the best films of all time and now my favorite western! Thank you Takashi Miike for producing yet another awesome film and doing so much for cinema, unlike most directors in todays day and age. Its a sad point that most directors dont give a shit, but at least I can count on Takashi Miike for a great film and thats alright with me! |

Let the Right One In 2008, R)
One of the year's best! Simply amazing. The cinematography is so beautiful, the traditions of the vampires are kept along with new traditions that really worked for the film, the direction was masterful, carries a good story, and overall is a gory yet anincredably sweet movie. I might be sounding bold and jumping the gun a little because i havent seen this other movie but im sure this is still true: FUCK TWILIGHT! SEE THIS! |

In Bruges 2008, R)
This film was actually pretty funny and good which I wasn't expecting at all. Also it has Colin Farrell's return in his best role so far with also Ralph Fiennes appearing which I was happy to see because I think he's an extraordinary actor, and I haven't seen him around in a while. Some of you might be wondering why my rating wasn't higher than four out of five, but quite honestly, i watched it really late when it I had worked thirteen hours that day, so I probably didn't get an entire grasp of the movie and with a second watch, this will probably go higher. One of 08's best though. |

Death Note: The Last Name (Desu nôto 2) 2007, Unrated)
Almost as good as the first one! The stakes are higher and believe me, things get messy. It's the final resolution and it's a great one. I mean, you can't go wrong with this one, 3 Kira's! Freggin Nutz! It contains the same intelligence as the first film and like I said before: almost as good as the first one. Maybe I like the first one better because of the introduction to the death note as well as the great ending. The sequal wrapped up the live action series very nicely. THIS IS ONE NOT TO MISS EITHER! Now I just have to see "L-Change the World". I hear it's not as good, but I don't see how it could be terrible either. Review for it will be up soon. |

The Midnight Meat Train 2008, R)
Wow, this was a really good movie and I'm really happy to see that because it seemed like all the good movies that were coming out this year were comix book movies and all the other movies are sucking out, but this is an exception from that. The Midnight Meat Train is really brutal, but overall to my surprise, it seemed a little like a tribute to Dario Argento in the way that the lighting was done, there was lots of art shown, really unique camera angles were used, and the supernatural was even featured. Not to mention that this movie really keeps you locked in with the characters which makes this a scary movie. The acting and direction was really well executed as well as everything else. Most people complain about the ending ruining the movie and how much the ending sucked, but really I think it was perfect for this movie because it shows that the guy before had done the exact same thing that our main character did and we finally reallize that the Subway Killer was actually a regular person once and when the ending takes place, we discover that its all a vicious cycle that our main character gets caught in with no excape from it. The train setting was also something I loved because in most horror movies, the characters have places to run and places to hide, but on the train, theres no where they can run or hide and I think that was also a big factor in why this movie really worked. Overall a must see movie this year! It is really graphic so don't see it if your not a fan of gore. One of the best of the year and was barley seen in theatres. Should of had a much bigger theater showing. I would have rether seen this in theatres than a lot of the other crap I've seen this year. Ohh and did I mention that that Ted Raimi makes an appearence in this movie which caught me of guard, but me being a die hard Sam Raimi fan, I was really delighted to see him in a horror flick again. GO SEE THIS NOW! |

Pineapple Express 2008, R)
"You've been surved" one of the most intoxicating, halarious, action packed, different movies of the year and this is defently one of 08's best. Its not up to Superbad's level, but this is awesome and defently one of Judd Apatow's best films. Tied for Apatow's second best film Knocked up, so you know this is good. Check it out! |

Milk 2008, R)
Really good movie with an important message and point in American history that everyone should be aware of! Really happy its nominated for an academy award, although in my opinion, Slumdog Millionaire is just too good to loose this year. However, if Slumdog Millionaire wasn't nominated and The Dark night didn't take its place, Milk woulde defently be my pick for best picture of 2008, despite that I realy haven't seen the other films, thus making my opinion pretty unworthy due to only seeing 2 out of the 5 films nominated. But the fact ofthe matter is, you see should see this film, expecially to grasp how substantial this point in history i and how it relates to how far the homosexual communities have come and also know how hard they have it for just being themselves. great performances by everyone! |

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist 2008, PG-13)
Really good movie consisting on a tremendous amount of fun, laughter, drama, and lots of heart. Defently a surprise hit of 2008 and is likely to be remembered as a teen classic in two decades or more like Pretty In Pink or Sixteen Candles. This is just another example of 2008 where both Michael Cena and Kat Dennings have realy proved their stuff. In fact, with the great Charlet Bartlett and this movie, 2008 really proved to be a year for Jat Dennings giving us someone to look at for a good performance but also someone sho usually stars in really good movies. I thought the ending was awesome, expecially the very end on the elevator where they kiss as the elevator moves down in slow motion and the camera pans out of the subwa entrance and stops on a great morning view of the city, but more importantly, we realize that there love was strong enough to survive the night and last. One of the best edings of 2008 for sure and honestly, everyone should check this one out! |

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) 2008, PG-13)
One of the years best and even better than the original Hellboy! Its funnier, more action packed, contains a better story, is more imaginative, the effects are great, and overall makes you really happy you saw it unlike many other sequals. You have to see this. Toro's magic still reigns! Ohh and did I mention that the eye candy in this movie really added to the movie too. Lie one critic said, " One of the most imaginative action films in years". |

Forgetting Sarah Marshall 2008, R) |

Cloverfield 2008, PG-13)
Surprisingly a good film. I was totally incaptured with this movie. There were many things I loved about this movie. First off, it was really cool not only to see a monster movie(Which I haven't seen in a long time) but somewhat of a realistic view towards it. It never explains the origin of the monster or how it got there and I hear a lot of complaints of how they don't explain anything about where the monster came from and they don't explain anything about the plot so your lost the whole time. My response to the second part of this is: were you even watching the movie? I mean its clear as day as to whats going on, a monster is attacking a city, they try to evacuate, the army tries to fight the monster off, and they overall try to survive. My response to the first part of this is that the whole reason they left out the origin of the monster is to make it more mysterious and mainly much scarier so you don't know what is going on just like the characters don't and therefore you are forced to relate to these characters and are thrown into the movie with them. As for the people who also said that the decisions were not realistic and a real person would have done something different, cut the horseshit, because you know you would have done the exact same things that the characters did in the movie or something like it. Now I know what your thinking," I would go towards danger to save some girl that your not even with", and that was actually one of the things that I loved about this film too! The fact that within all the chaos, terror, danger, and destruction that was in the way, he doesn't care and realizes that his brother is right and that he's incomplete without her and dispite that shes better than you and your not better than her, you both love each other and you shouldn't ruin it, so the entire movie, he tries to get to her. So basically most people don't notice, but this movie really is a love story with ascience fiction horror coading to add to the story and keep your eyes locked. The acting was fair, but what would you expect from a movie with actors weve never seen before and also this movie wasn't intended to be an oscar nominated film. Overall a great movie that shouldn't be missed, its really effective, delivers scares, great direction and effects, and has a wonderful love story that you wouldn't usually see in a movie like this. Go see it dispite what the other half are saying. Also, at the end of the credits, put on your thinking caps and try to figure out what the secret message is that is said when the credits end, if you liked this movie, youll love what it is. |

Martyrs 2008, R)
One of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen and one of the hardest to get through. But I didn't mind because of how much brillance was in the film. It's basically two stories that are connected by a character and a other details. You don't expect it to turn the way it does, but it does and you never know what to expect throughout the entire movie. Even within the first 10 minutes, something is revealed that you would never expect and this happens again and again throughout the film. I thought that was brilliant because it's something you don't see in a lot of films nowadays. Also, you really get emotionally attached to the characters and really journey with them through the film. That's why it's so hard to get through because after being emotionally attached, everything that happens feels like a sledge hammer and that's not including the gore and graphic scenes in the film. Overall, it's a gem that you should defently check out if you can stomach it. It's different, unique, smart, and graphic. It's like Hostel if it had a great story with great characters and great twists and turns to keep us guessing. It's hard to explain here and you really have to see it for yourself to get the whole idea of what this film really is. Go see it, unless you have a weak stomach. |

My Name Is Bruce 2007, R)
A good movie! However, if your not a big bruce campbell or of the films that hes in, then you will not enjoy this. As for the fans, you wll enjoy this. This movie is really funny at multiple parts, anywhere from Bruce Campbell's antics to funny references to his former movies, to ted Raimi's performmance, makes an overall halarious movie that isnt supposed to be taken seriously at any moment. My only complaint is the emo kid being the kid who is the big Bruce Campbell fan and is the one to bring him to help his town. During the town scenes, the kid starts to look like a a normal kid, but then as the story progresses and the kid heads off to fight the Chinese God of War, hes back to being an extreme emo. Its not that I hate the emo style, its that you can go a little far with it, infact, the emo style looks pretty hot on a lot of girls, but if they take it to far, they end up looking like a douche, just like the kid in he movie. Besides that its a really funny movie that fans with like and laugh out loud. I alsolove the fact that the Chinese God of War is the protector of chinese bean-curd, the music performed many times by the random guitar players throughout the movie, which is really funny because their song doesn't fit the movie at all, and your going to love the few old characters from the Evil Dead movies making appearences like he hillbilly in Evil Dead 2 and the blacksmith in Army of Darkness being gay lovers, and shelly from the evil being Bruce's ex wife and Ted Raimi's bed lover. Fans, you gotta see this, this is a film made for you! |

Kataude mashin gâru (The Machine Girl) 2007, Unrated)
One of the goriest movies of all time, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't get a high recommendation. In fact the story was great, and it also was a lot like a grindhouse type of a film that had cheap effects on purpose to pay tribute to some older movie classics such as The Evil Dead and Dead Alive. However like I said at the beginning, the movie is extremly graphic so if you don't like lots of gore, people being torn apart, nails to the face, and other gore, than this is defently not a film for you and you literally won't make it past a minute in this movie. However if you don't mind gore or enjoy it with a good story and Japanese culture with a grindhouse/Evil Dead meets Kill Bill meets Dead Alive flare, this is a must see. Get ready for a bloodbath! |

JCVD (Van Dammage) 2008, R)
A really good film that shows action star Jean-Claude Van Damme as someone who has now gotten stuck on the middle of a bank robbery in Belgium. As the film progresses, you see him less as the star he's know as and more like a regular person with problems, hopes, and dreams. Not to mention that it's a smart idea for a film. They try to pull somewhat of a "Pulp Fiction" style at different moments when they try to show the other side of what happened from a different perspective. However, this is the only thing that felt wrong in the film because it didn't reveal anything new or surprising and it just seemed like the director was trying to be really artsy in order to grab critics attention which wasn't necessary. Asides from that, it' a really good movie from a legendary action star that we haven't seen in a long time which is really refreshing. Not to mention the great cinematography, good story, and good way of using the regular Jean-Claude Van Damme gimmicks to the story's advantage. Defently check this one out. |

Get Smart 2008, PG-13)
Much better than I had anticipated. Great cast, good plot, and overall halarious while still sticking by the original's ways. Ohh and did I mention Anna Hatheway and that dress that she wears at the party. OHH MOMMA, so hot, I'll be warm for weeks. But overally great fun with many halarious moments and a big surprise for me. |

Sex Drive 2008, R)
This was a big shock for me because it was actually pretty good. Not to mention some great actors we've never seen before along with great ones that we have. Great characters, good story, and most importantly: Seth Green who has been busy with Robot Chicken for a while. Its great to see him back on the big screen. Funny from start to finish. Some reason road trip comedies always seem to work. |

A good surprise. Its a non intense drama with lots of twists and turns that are only usually found amongst suspense or high adrenaline movies. also the movie is really comedic with a few good morals everyone should abide by dispite tough surprises in relationships. Defently check this one out. It defently wasn't amazing, but its better than it looks and the critics were defently wrong on this one. |

Wanted 2008, R)
Wanted is an action movie that I only expected to be ok that ended up being a really good piece of bad ass filming and to later on find out that the director of Nightwatch and Daywatch directed this, this really isn't such a shock to me considering that both of those movies were really cool and Day watch was freggin amazing! But back to wanted, This one is filled with a great cast along with great action sequences, good story, and great twists to keep the adrenaline flowing. Not to mention that the main character wasn't some killing assassian from the beginning, he was like you or me his boss down his neck and him taking every shit thats tossed to him. Then one day he finds out that his father was a great assassian and that he was killed, but he shares the same killing features as his father has, therefore he tries to become an assassian for what they call the Fraternity. Its a really good movie, lots of action, a great ending, and a half naked Angelina Jolie. Check this one out. |

The Rocker 2008, PG-13)
The much better version of school of rock being that it doesn't bore us and end off with a performance, it focuses on the tour. But thats only a small part of why its much better than School of Rock. Forst off, the story is way better, its a lot funnier, more interesting, the songs are much better, and so on so forth. You should check this one out, it is indeed a good watch. Its no Superbad, buts its good. |

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa 2008, PG)
I caught the evening showing of this movie and to my surprise, the theatre was packed even at night time. when I though about it though, the original was halarious and attracted people of all ages even adults, so it really wasn't surprising after I thought about it. This film is just about as good as the original because its weaker in some points, but stronger in others. The story in this one I thought was weaker than the original because in the original movie, we really get to know the characters and end up travelling far away from home and I guess the story of the original was just a little more exciting. This story is good too, just not quite as good as the original. In this we get to see more of the Lion's background of when he was little and how he ended up in New York. The comedy was still fresh in this one in may ways. They gave the people who had smaller roles in the first one like The Grandma and King Julian and other characters and gave them a bigger oart in the movie which overall made the movie really funny. Everyone else was really funny expecially the Penguins even before the movie starts where they take out the Dreamworks kid, I thought that was truly genius and Halarious! This one has a bit of a love story in the middle of it as well, but overall, its defently a good sequal that almost lives up to the original. Defently see it for a great laugh and a good story. Ice age 3 will probably be better though, but who knows, well wait and see. |

Tôkyô Zankoku Keisatsu (Tokyo Gore Police) 2008, Unrated)
After seeing "The Machine Girl", I knew I hadto check this out and also for the fact that the beautiful Eihi Shiini from Takashi Miike's "Audition" was in it. As starts off awesome with a team of police running up to the roof where a criminal has kidnapped a hostage. However, in this futuristic world of Tokyo, the police has been privatised and they have no mercy or negotiations with criminals. When the police fleat arrives on the roof, they find the man and open fire with the asian blood sprinkler effects immurging. However, the man doesn't die and instead, (EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS TRIBUTE HERE) he grows a new arm with a chainsaw attached to it. Ruka whos the main character the story, is waiting in a policear down below where she's told that the man is an Engineer: when they are injured, there injury turns into a weapon and the only way to stop them is to sever the tumor inside of them that gives them this ability. I thought this was really unique (even though redicious) and it really made the movie more interesting. Ruka arrives on the roof where most of the cops have been killed. She picks up the chainsaw that the man dropped when his arm wa severed by the gun fire and they have a chainsaw duel. Ruka wins by cutting through the engineer multiple times with the chainsaw and then finishing him off by cutting him in half with a samurai sword. She puts the sword back in its case and the title "Tokyo Gore Police " pops up. This is truly a fantastic and goretastic intro into a film. Then the film does gradually get less fantastic as we go through the film, but thats not saying the the rest that it was terrible, this is a good movie. The rest of the movie is just as gory, but its not as awesome as the chainsaw duel, but still pretty sweet. Basically for the rest of the film, we find out that Ruka's dad was killed in front of her when she was a child. When she fighting an engineer later in the film, she realizes that she also fighting her dad's exectutioner and she chases him throughout the film. I won't spoil anymore, but there is a small twist and her enemies change dirastically when she finds out a truth around her father's assassination and also when something happens to her earlier on in the film where she begins to change as a person. Aside from all this, I think almost everyone was on the same page as me with the chair person. That was fucked! But I think a close second was the engineer with the cock gun. Also the commercials were something that really sold the film to me. They were halarious and would come unexpectedly throughout the film which was great and unique. There's many other unique aspects because this is a really unique film with many "what the fuck" moments within. This isn't as good as "The Machine Girl", but it was fun and without a doubt: ONE OF THE GORIEST FILMS OF ALL TIME! |

The Incredible Hulk 2008, PG-13)
It might not be as amazing as The Dark Knight, or as fantastic as Iron Man, but it still packs some punches and gives us an overall good movie. Defently worth checking out for the action sequences and good acting and effects. Plus another Stan Lee Cameo and another Cameo at the end which was amazing. Overall a good watch that is much better that Ang Lee's original. |
