Inglourious Basterds 2009, R)
"I think this might just be my masterpiece", well, not sure about that, maybe Pulp Fiction can still kick this one's ass, but I do know this film is almost perfect too. The characters are, as almost every character of Quentin, awesome. This movie is much better than Avatar, and much better than Hurt Locker, should get the Oscar instantly. Unfortunately, the Oscar bastards always make a lot of mistakes such as giving Titanic the best movie award. So it seems this one won't win. What a shame......I wrote that before the Oscars, and I was right it didn't win. Actually it won just one Oscar, Supporting Actor. That bad we are? This was the best movie of 2009 and there's no doubt about it. Face it, academy! |

Up 2009, PG)
This movie confirms the fact that Pixar is getting better with every new film. Maybe the most hilarious Pixar movie ever, this one competes with Wall-E for the best animated picture in history. If we would just erase Cars for a minute, we could say that Pixar has an impecable set up to date. If the theory is true, imagine how good will be the next one: Toy Story 3 |

Fantastic Mr. Fox 2009, PG)
Funny, creative, and well done. Wes Anderson tries with something different from his awesome past with Rushmore or Royal. Adapting a Roal Dahl book must be very fun, but must be also very hard to keep to the story but apport something at the same time. You know this is certainly a Wes Anderson flick from the very beginning and you also know this is a Roal Dahl story. Thought this would be good, but not better than Up, because it is very hard to be better than that. But this surpassed my expectatives and I think this must've won the Oscar for best animated film and be nominated to best film along with Up. Just Wall-E is better than this. Big step for you, Wes. |

Mary and Max 2009, Unrated)
This is the only animated picture which I've seen so far that can survive in a battle against Pixar's big dogs. When I watch films like this one, I just think: "The producers and directors must be very generous or nice to make films like these, which they know won't gain a shit". Maybe I'm wrong about the money thing. But this movie must've been nominated for best nominated film instead of Princess And Frog (which was good but sorry there are only 5 places). So funny you forget about the depressive context. |

Moon 2009, R)
Hell surprise. Well, Duncan Jones's debut means David Bowie's son debut. Dude, he really is David Bowie's son! I knew he would confuse us with a nice story like this one. Great sci-fi movie with a great acting by Sam Rockwell. Even Kevin Spacey thought Why Not Put My Voice in a David Bowie's son movie?! Dude, I know Duncan will go high. Just his debut is one of the top10 movies in 2009 and probably top50 scifi in 2000's! |

The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) 2009, R)
Amazingly unpredictable. The acting is magnificent, the director really chose well his cast, as the guy who plays the crazy violator couldn't be replaced by anyone else. Campanella gets to the master level at creating this wonderful story, which makes you want to forget the law and shoot the stupid lawyer and his stupid killer, makes you want to cry when you see the lovely character of Pablo being killed for saving his best friend and makes you want to celebrate when Morales kicks the killer's ass. Fully emotional flick, still the Oscar (or a better award, as the Oscars are kinda crappy) should've been given to El Prophete. |

Star Trek 2009, PG-13)
Just tell me what kind of stupid critic voted this one as a rotten. Dude, even a guy who just watches popcorn movies, or a guy who just doesn't know about good films at all could get fascinated about all this space thing. And what is awesome is: This is a remake of an early tv show! It is supposed to be a box office monster and it came to be one of the best things in 2009! The special effects are just amazing! Imagine this flick in 3D or blu ray. Great acting by Chris Pine, who I think, directors stopped giving him the blue prince characters, he just rocked in Trek! Great movie. And nothing more to say about the special effects. Hilarious! Full of action! Touching! Exciting! What else do you want me to say about this film? Just tell me, I'm sure I'll find it in this movie! |

In the Loop 2008, Unrated)
I got this one in PAL format, and my stuff are NTSC, so I had to watch it in my PC, which I think has trojans or something so I had a hard time when the movie stopped and things. Finally, the movie stopped when there were 5 or 10 minutes left, so I think it still counts. The movie was very funny and enjoyable. The plot was very creative and I think that was part of the reason why it was so funny. The acting was great too. One of the top10 movies of 2009. |
|
| 13 |
A Serious Man 2009, R)
Not my favorite film, not my kind of either, but I have to admit it's a very well made movie. Maybe it's true what they say about this being the most mature film by the Coens. Funny at times, and very realistic and quiet. Coen Brothers show us that you don't need to make a big plot or big adventure to make a good movie. Just see how the entire movie is about the normal life of the principal character. Better than The Hurt Locker. |
|
| 14 |
The Secret of Kells 2009, Unrated)
The movie is a wonderful example of a great cartoon flick. It is very entertaining and the drawings are so beautiful you can't stop watching it. This one totally deserved the nomination, but Mary And Max should've been nominated too instead of The Princess And The Frog, which is good, but not better than the other 5. |

Where the Wild Things Are 2009, PG)
One of the best children movies I've seen in a long time. This amazing story takes you to wonderful places and really cool landscapes. The special effects are actually great. The characters are lovely. What else can I say about this epic fantasy flick? OH YEAH..tHE SOUNDTRACK! Karen O gets awesome in this film. Fantastic movie, SPike Jonze. |

Cell 211 (Celda 211) 2009, Unrated)
I know the Oscars aren't the best awards (No Inglorious Basterds for best pic? WTF?), but I always use them for example. Cell 211 must have been instead of Ajami at least, in the foreign cathegory. The acting by Luis Tosar is outstanding and very powerful. The story showed touches you and takes you to the darkest prison ever. Well directed and shot, Cell 211 is one of the best recent spanish masterpieces. |

(500) Days of Summer 2009, PG-13)
Marc Webb's debut. Who's Marc Webb? I don't know, this is his debut. Shit, he is a master. Very entertaining romantic comedy. Just amazing. Fantastic acting by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he just kicked ass in here. And great acting by the cute Zooey Deschanel too. One of the top 10 or top 15 best movies of 2009. Great |
|
| 24 |
Zombieland 2009, R)
If you think about it, this is not an art masterpiece that the Godfather and Apocalypse Now director would have done. But it's a nice flick that some guy thought would be fun. What makes this movie an amazing one is the simplicity of it. It has an amazing script though and Woody Harrelson cautivates us again by playing a Bill Murray fan.(best part in the movie). Also, Emma Stone, who had already showed his good acting and beauty at the hilarious comedy, Superbad, shows us that she is no one-hit wonder. Even the hot Amber Heard gets to appear as the 406 neighbor. And dude, you know, if global warming means Zombieland, we are all prepaired with the great rules that Columbus, Ohio gives us. |

The Damned United 2009, R)
World Cup 2010 finalists: Spain and Netherlands? Let's celebrate (although I lost all my money with Brazil's loss and lost my love for France for Domenech's fault). The best way to celebrate is watching a fucking awesome movie about the best sport in the world (or is it basketball? or american football? or MMA? who cares, is world cup time). Fantastic Biopic about the most important manager of England's history. Brilliantly acted by Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall (Yes, Peter Pettigrew in Harry Potter). Nothing more to say about this film. Saved my day when I was getting a bit pissed off by movies I had recently seen (were good, but not what I expected). Great job, director Tom Hopper. |

Whatever Works 2009, PG-13)
How can this possibly be rotten? Are you nuts or something RottenTomatoes? This romantic comedy is fucking hilarious and gets to be sort of black comedy too. The acting by Larry David is great and gets to be kind of the same character as the only Woody Allen. Evan Rachel Wood also showed a brilliant acting, after changing ambients in The Wrestler (2008). Woody had been making a movie every year, which is a lot. But some of them were weak. Vicky Christina Barcelona was fine, but Whatever Works is the best Allen film since Match Point (2005). Great job, Woody. Keep On Rockin'. |
|
| 32 |
Crazy Heart 2009, R)
Awesome acting! This flick woke The Academy up and made Jeff Bridges get the Oscar he deserved like 20 years ago and still. Maggie Gyllenhaal also deserves her naming. She did an amazing acting and was very cute. And Colin Farrell, new for me (I had just seen Alexander, which was crap), showed he is a good actor too. Nice film and amazing soundtrack! |
|
| 33 |
Adventureland 2009, R)
Ok. My final conclusion is done. Kristen Stewart is making a swindle and all of you asswholes are getting into the trap! I mean, all of you twilight movies lovers. Kristen Stewart is actually a great actress. I thought that when I watched Into The Wild (Sean Penn), but I thought that had been luck. But now I have discovered that Kristen Stewart isn't just a good actress, she's a great one. She is a wonderful actress who acts in great movies such as Adventureland or Into The Wild, and to make sure that she is gonna eat something, she cheats on you all "Twilight Movies" fans for money. Great strategy if you know what I mean. I could be angry with Downey Jr. as he turns a masterpiece like Iron Man into crap like Iron Man 2. But I can't be angry at Kristen because the only thing she's doing is to trick dushbacks and who cares about dushbacks? If tricking dushbacks is a good way to make money, then bring me some dushbacks and I will captivate them with my silly vampire stories. I'm sure I will eat well. |
|
| 34 |
Mother and Child 2010, R)
Sad and charming film by Rodrigo Garcia Barcha and produced by a lot of great latin directors (Guillermon Del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu). The performances by Naomi Watts and Annette Bening are awesome, but this time, Bening gets the best prize. Jimmy Smits is great too and so is Samuel L. Jackson. Very good storyline and directing. |
|
| 35 |
The House of the Devil 2009, R)
Scary as hell. Top 5 most horrifying films seen yet. The House Of The Devil is set in the 70-80's decade and it is perfectly directed. The music director manages to put the perfect track in the perfect scene and the actors make a great job, enough not to complain. House Of The Devil, isn't just scary (Paranormal Activity is a bit scary but it's a bad film), House oF The Devil is a wonderful movie, the director Ti West did a revival masterpiece. You can't lie to me, Ti, I know you were very influenced by Kubrick's Shining. |
|
| 36 |
The Messenger 2009, R)
Orem Moverman's debut (the guy who wrote I'm Not There) is just a magnificent war drama about the war deaths. It is well directed and acted. Woody Harrelson could have won the Oscar if Inglorious Basterds hadn't come out in 2009 (because Christoph Waltz was unbeatable). And Ben Foster, yes, the archangel from crappy X-Men: The Last Stand, makes a wonderful performance by the way. I think it is a new discovery, as nobody knew him as a big actor. In conclusion, go and watch The Messenger. |
|
| 37 |
Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces) (Broken Hugs) 2009, R)
I completely fell in love with Penelope Cruz after watching this movie. She's not a beautiful and sexy woman, but a wonderful actress. Almodòvar seems to have discovered his muse, as Tarantino did with Uma Thurman. Great film, get me into Pedro Almodòvar films. Just well done. Must have been nominated for best foreign film instead of Ajami. |
|
| 38 |
Bakjwi (Thirst) 2009, R)
Thirst is great. Not one of that crappy vampire flicks that are popular nowadays (uhum...twilight...cof cof). The cool fact is that this movie doesn't aim to please nor teenagers or girls. Actually this movie doesn't please anybody as it has very strong scenes. Thirst is a well made movie which achieves a creative vampire story, like no one had ever told it. |

| 39 |
Pirate Radio (The Boat That Rocked) 2009, R)
This automatically turned into one of my favorite films. Not one of the bests, one of my favs. I don't know how this could be rotten in a "film expert" web site. |
|
| 40 |
Antichrist 2009, Unrated)
Another fucking mistake by the web page. rateyourmusic.com has this well rated and the usual fucker critics have made this a rotten. This is a beautiful film. Beautifully shot and beautifully acted (I don't remeber if it was in Cannes or Sundance, but Charlotte Gainsbourg won best actress, not like the Oscar, Bullock? FUCK!). The director, who I didn't know, is a crack, and I must watch more by him. |

| 41 |
Mr. Nobody 2009, Unrated)
Why not a 100%? Some little details, few slow scenes and a overdecorated ending. But hey, this movie is still a 80%. It is one of the top innovative films in 2009, along with Limits Of Control, A Town In Panic, and other great ones. The acting is very good. Jared Leto does a great performance and reafirms that his best hability is acting, and not music, as many bad music listeners think (Jared Leto isn't only a great actor, he is also the leader of the crappy band 30 Seconds To Mars). The cinematography is splendid as well as the storyline, which is one of the most complex in the last 2 years. A competitor in complexity? Inception by Christopher Nolan. And it is also worth to say that "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies sounded again. |

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans 2009, R) |

| 43 |
RiP: A Remix Manifesto 2009, Unrated)
Whether or not the position of the good Brett Gaylor is right, the documentary that he has made sure is. His arguments are a bit complex as many say, but I find them kinda reasonable, as sharing culture should be a law of everyone. I think Gaylor make some good points, but Lars Ulrich (Metallica's drummer) also makes some good points against what Brett says. Also, Girl Talk isn't that good, so I don't think why they do such a problem with him. But anyway, that is the debate thing; but cinemaLY talking, the documentary is very entertaining and well made. So 80% for the film, not necessarily for the debate position, but for the film, yey. |

I Love You, Man 2009, R)
Funny stuff. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel are one of the funniest actors right now. They always appear in Appatow Films or some flick related. They always make us laugh with awesome movies. This flick was great too. The only bad thing was that Rashida Jones wasn't at the level, she just didn't act great. Great short performances by J.K. Simmons and Andy Samberg, both genius. |
|
| 47 |
Away We Go 2009, R)
Although its slow half makes this one not be a 80% and not be better than the last Mendes's work, Revolutionary Road; this flick is one of the most charming and touching films I've seen in a while. The acting is great, Maya Rudolph, from Saturday Night Live, and John Krasinski (yes, can you believe it? one of the actors of the crappy License to Wed actually acts well) mixed up fantasticly and showed a great chemistry in making one of the most romantic stuff I've seen in 2009 (Yes, dude. I'm a tough guy and fell in love with the flick. Problem?). I mean, Verona's character was a hit! How couldn't someone moral not want to be with a woman with that personality, although she isn't hot, she still cute and adorable. I give a big point for creating a character as interesting as Rona. Burt was also great you know, but I mean, Rona was just incredible. One of the best couple characters in a recent film. Great job, Sam Mendes. |
|
| 48 |
Panique au village (A Town Called Panic) 2009, Unrated)
Have you ever thought about the problems that would bring a reunion of a Cowboy, an Indian and a Horse? And, have you thought in what would happen if 3 diver-polliwog-fish things kept stealing their walls? Well, I'll tell you. The result is a hilarious Stop-Motion movie with a great directing and dubbing. Although it is a bit slow in the half, the movie reaches what it wanted and likes. |

Capitalism: A Love Story 2009, R)
First of all, I don't know much about economics or politics. I'm just getting into it. But I'm gonna rate this movie as a film, just as I have rated the rest of movies. I don't care about Michael Moore's point of view, whether is good or bad, I'm just gonna say that, as a filmmaker, he rocks. Capitalism: A Love Story is a prefectly done documentary which shows Moore's opinion about capitalism. About his point of view, I agree with him and I don't know why a lot of people criticize him for making bad movies. You can disagree with his opinion, but you gotta admit it is an interesting and well done doc. |
|
| 52 |
Me and Orson Welles 2010, PG-13)
A good director, Richard Linklater. He has done very good things such as School Of Rock or making Zac Efron (YES, YOU CAN'T BELIEVE IT EITHER, CAN YOU?) act in a real flick. Obviously, the big performance here is Christian McKay's. But, Efron wasn't really bad. Still, I think he was called to act in the flick because the theatre and singing character, so I don't think this a proof that Zac is finally out of the pussy Disney cinema. |
|
| 53 |
Brothers 2009, R)
After The Hurt Locker, two prestigious directors showed their war works: Paul Greengrass (from Bourne And United 93) made Green Zone recently, and Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Father) made Brothers. Brothers is a war thriller that, different from Hurt Locker, shows, not the real fear of the war but exquisitely show the post-war traumas. I think Sheridan perfectly showed that trauma to us and that is the big thing about this film. Asides from that, Tobey Maguire and Jake Gylenhaal, two great actors did an esplendid job. Tobey, who I didn't know apart from Spiderman, did the best acting in the film. And Jake, in other hands, did good too (But you can't say this is his best because he is just awesome). They both show, at the first half of the film, how a bad boy turns into a good one by spending time with his family. And in the second half, they show how a good boy turns into a bad one by spending too much time in war, something that sometimes can't be helped. Natalie Portman, well she is kinda hot in this one, but if we see her acting, is just okay. She doesn't do big things in the film and that is part of the reason the post-trauma thing isn't enough to give this flick a 90%. Seems that Jim Sheridan won the battle again. |

The Milk of Sorrow (La Teta Asustada) 2009, Unrated)
Very heavy movie. For example, I love good music, and I can tell that metal is good, but it is not my favorite shall I say. So if you put some good metal CD, but very death metal and very heavy, I will tell you it is good music, but not for my like. That's what happens in this one. I admit it is a great movie but it is just too heavy for me. The topic is not for my favorites. But still great. |

Everybody's Fine 2009, PG-13)
Everybody's Fine is somehow a romantic comedy. Although it is very sad, it makes you laugh at times. I truly hadn't seen De Niro act this way for years. For me, De Niro was Scorcese, so nothing more to say about Meet The Fockers and stuff. After watching this one, I got to some conclusions: |
|
| 65 |
The Limits of Control 2009, R)
I'm not used to this type of "new" films, i'm not even used to silent films. This flick isn't rotten though. I can see a lot of creativity in the way the story is told. The acting, by the way, is amazing. A lack of expressions in the face is well mastered and dominated by the main actor, Isaach De Bankole. The director, Jim Jarmusch, has a lot of potential. At least this film showed the greatness of Jarmusch. |
|
| 66 |
The Informant! 2009, R) |
|
| 67 |
The Road 2009, R)
Great proposal by director John Hillcoat. Fit very well with Stiges Festival. Viggo Mortensen plays a very different character than usually and does good. Also Mr.Robert Duvall, who is appearing in every movie nowadays because he is one of the best living actors, so every director wants to honour him. The Road is a good flick, more depressive than anything, which has very high moments. It's true that it also has very weak scenes, such as the beginning or the very ending, where Guy Pearce (great actor) comes up with all his family. Worth watching. |

World's Greatest Dad 2009, R)
Wow...a little messy plot you know, very different kind of comedy with a lot of potential. Could have been better, with a nicer script and all, but still a good movie. This flick reminded me that Robin Williams can act, and when he seems shitty is because of the character they gave him, like RV or License to Wed. Pretty cool flick. Remember that crap SpyKids stuff? well, the little boy Juni, he acts in this flick. He is not that brilliant, but the movie is. |
|
| 72 |
Ajami 2009, Unrated)
I didn't see a foreign film nomination for any kind of award (Oscar, Cannes, nothing). One of the worst 70% movies I've seen. I expected more from this one. It just has good acting and nice shots, but the movie like a whole piece, doesn't accomplish what it was suppose to do. Still a fresh movie but...why so much thing about this? There are like 10 foreign movies better than this one (Broken Embraces, Milk Of Sorrow, White Ribbon, Prophet, Secret In Their Eyes, Dom Zly, Celda 211, Without Name, etc.) |
|
| 73 |
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 2009, PG-13)
Kind of messed up storyline. You know, pretty awesome the imagination and stuff, but it could have been a better plot. Still a worth-watching movie because of its visual ambients and fantastic characters. You think you are watching a nice Tim Buron film, but no, it is 12 Monkeys's director Terry Gilliam. Heath Ledger really rocked. And nothing more to say about Depp, Law and Farrell who did pretty good replacement work. |
|
| 74 |
Hachi: A Dog's Tale 2009, G)
What can I say about this little piece of art? It's not a masterpiece, that's why I give him a nearly fresh, but it is nice and very touching. I don't know, maybe it's because I love dogs, but I've heard from a lot of people who aren't necessarily dog lovers. The fact is that this is the movie which almost make me cry. I hardly cry with a film, but this almost made me do it. And it is not a bad film. |

The Princess and the Frog 2009, G) |

Harry Brown 2009, R) |

Avatar 2009, PG-13)
Saw it in 3D. I thought that it would be just another well-publicized movie with nice and innovative effects. But when it was almost Avatar's 6th week in the cinema, the good critics started saying this movie deserved a try. So I gave it one and it didn't dissapoint me. The best effects ever. A movie simply made for 3D effects. Without exagerations and crappy pieces of shit just tossing to you without a reason. But you can't get much more from that. The movie must be one of the most overrated films. This is not crap, but not much though. Nice work, James Cameron, it seems that you finally left that shitty Titanic in the past. |
|
| 78 |
Valhalla Rising 2009, Unrated)
Director Nicolas brings a good proposal which starts impecably but quickly falls in boredom. "Valhalla Rising" is the result of the confusion between slowness and profundity. Nicolas shows a great style of narration at the first parts of the movie, but then ruins a lot of scenes with it. Yet the movie isn't completely ruined and it's fresh. |
|
| 79 |
Invictus 2009, PG-13)
Overrated. Invictus is a nicely done work. It illustrates history quite good and really shows Mandela and Pienaar's way of being. But it gets kind of slow at the last part and, as in Changeling, you get to say: This should've already ended. Still a great movie, and what it really has is a big acting by both Freeman and Damon. |
|
| 80 |
Five Minutes of Heaven 2009, R) |
|
| 81 |
Drag Me to Hell 2009, PG-13)
It isn't that scary, but come on! We all know about Sam Raimi's unique style. Although he is just a regular director, he has made some good films such as Evil Dead or his masterpiece "Evil Dead 2". And Spider-Man 2 wasn't that bad. Anyway, about this one, it isn't great. The script is pretty weak and so is the acting (Justin Long isn't that bad though). But it is a fresh flick. Actually it got to enter my ranking (the last places, but still)... |
|
| 82 |
Michael Jackson's This Is It 2009, PG) |
|
| 83 |
Dogtooth (Kynodontas) 2009, R)
I can see some artistic thing out there, as the story is complex and unusual, and takes the risk to talk about something new, not seen by cinema. But, I don't get why is this a masterpiece or something, or a 2009 best. I just enjoyed it in certain parts, as the rest just looked too sick for me. A sick family where the parents are very stupid, so their children just became some sort of sexual sick guys. I know the story doesn't care that much if it is told well, but, this was just too sick. And the movie style, didn't fit, it was a very boring drama in most f the scenes. |

Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire 2008, R)
Precious is very emotional and very well acted. Gabourey Sidibe just does it very good for her first performance, Mo'Nique just shines a lot and really deserved the Oscar, and even Mariah Carey (Yes, her) gets to a very decent acting and if you don't read that Carey acts in Precious, you don't evenr realise it's her. Well Done, Lee Daniels, you will be a good director. |
