The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
One of the greatest horror films of all time for how realistically creepy it actually is. You can't get that same creepy factor with the remake. It may not be a huge gorefest but for what it is it beats the crap out of any high budget studio pg 13 horror film.

Just Before Dawn
Slow moving but solid creepy backwoods slasher from the early 80s. The films killers are overweight, inbred, creepy, twin brother mountain men who terrorize a group of yuppie campers up in the mountains. The kinda slasher movie where you don't really care about the campers who are on their self indulgent vacations, who only serve as annoying set pieces that make you route for their deaths. The film is very slow moving at parts but if you stick around till the very end...your pay off will be worth the wait.

Don't Go in the Woods... Alone!
This is not the absolute worst slasher i've seen but it is light years beyond anything good or scary. The most annoying part about this movie besides the acting was the repetitive obnoxious synth noises that just sound like their on a loop or something throughout this annoying piece of garbage. This is another case of a bad horror movie with a couple good scenes here and there. It does have a few generally creepy and somewhat scary scenes...like the scary mountain mans shed. I could not stand any of the lead or side characters except for the two cops. If given more competent actors and maybe more money for effects, this could have been a pretty decent slasher up there with "The Burning" and "Just before Dawn"

I don't know where to start with this godawful piece of CW inspired bullshit. This was a piss poor Hills Have Eyes,Wrong Turn wannabe. The acting and deaths are so laughable in this it has to be seen to be believed. I'm glad I only paid 3 bucks for this brand new. I should have known anything with Hillary Duffs untalented shitty sister would be an abortion of a movie. Watch at your own risk or watch if you're with a group of friends and want something to laugh at while drunk. Also don't forget to look for the Token black guy in this who is so horrible as an actor you would have sworn this was one of those scary movie type parody movies.

Summer Camp Nightmare
A very cheesy but decent mid 80s summer camp action drama. It breaks the mold from the Friday The 13th and Sleepaway Camp clones and does its own thing. Having more in common with the Lord of the flies more than anything when the boys at this camp rebel against their creepy pedo camp counselor. Its full of the right amount of laughs and suspense to hold your interest despite its dated music and somewhat shitty dialog. The acting in this can be cringe worthy at times, not to mention the cheesy talent show, but all in all its worth a watch for some 80s nostalgia. Its also good for someone who's a fan of summer camp themed movies who want alitlte something different. This is pretty much like the 90s kids movie Camp Nowhere mixed with Lord Of The Flies with winning results.

Howling IV: The Original Nightmare
This is pretty much an unofficial remake of the very first one but done in a late 80s style as oppose to the early 80s early 70s style of the original. Not bad for for what its trying to do here. I don't know if anything in this series could be as bad as part 6 The Freaks!!!!! This series started out kinda decent then just got slightly worse as the sequels kept coming.
This one isn't horrible but its pretty much just a rehash of part one with a few things just changed here and there, like the woman here isn't a news reporter and thats pretty much it, everything else is almost exactly the same storywise as part one lol.
The effects for the werewolves are late 80s so take from that what you will. If you're a fan of practical werewolf suits and effects and not into CGI werewolves then give this a watch.
This is a good late 80s cheesy horror movie that is a must for Halloween viewing.

The story itself was extremely convoluted and alot of the acting was like a high school play put to film with irish accents. Most of the make up effects were good quality and looked believable except for the last headshot but the rest of the kills were very gory. This is worth at least one watch but just go into it knowing you're going to watch shit that's mildly entertaining at best.

White Lightning
This was a pretty decent early 70s action adventure drama starring Burt Reynolds. Set somewhere in the south, its about Gator Mcklusky played by Mr.Reynolds as a Moonshine runner, who makes a deal with the cops while in prison to get released so he can round up the leaders of a moonshine ring...including a piece of garbage racist sheriff, played by Ned Beatty. He pretty much goes undercover and earns the trust of the local moonshine runners. Beatty does a good enough job playing the heavy here, but I felt like he wasn't a threatening enough bad guy to match up with Reynolds. I kinda expected more action from this also, but it was a good enough movie.. even though its mostly talking and character development for Reynolds. The beautiful southern backdrop really adds to the dirty, gritty, world of moonshine running, and this made me want to visit the south just that much more. The car chase scene in this was really amazing as well and I kinda was in disbelief with how they pulled off one stunt in particular.
The negative aspects of this movie would have to be how some of the characters never feel fleshed out enough, and you never really feel like Reynolds is in any real danger except for one or two scenes. So in other words its lacking some suspense, but if you can look past this and enjoy the movie for what it is, it may surprise you. I'm going to watch the sequel to this called Gator and I'll see if maybe that one has the missing elements lacking here.

Gator 1976,  PG)
Gator
White Lightning which was the first installment of Gator McKlusky movies Starring Burt Reynolds was a good enough effort, but lacked alot of action, suspense and was very light on humor. I'm happy to say that Gator is one hell of an action packed, well paced, hilariously funny Burt Reynolds film. This was filmed during the mid 70s right before Burt's shot into super stardom with Smokey and The Bandit, and you can tell Mr.Reynolds is in his prime during this period.
Right out the gate the movie starts off with a fantastic action scene that involves a boat chase in the bayou, showing Burt could do his own stunts back in the day. The plot centers around the fact that the local governor is using McKlusky yet again to go after a former friend... Bama McCall played by Jerry Reed because he owes some taxes and is suspected of indulging in some unsavory business practices. I made a comment in my other review for White Lightning saying that Ned Beatty the bad guy in that was very non threatening and not dangerous at all. Jerry Reed plays the total scumbag complete with southern drawl and violent temper. Reed shows off his stunt man fighting skills a couple times in this and I must say I was extremely impressed. He played the heavy just wonderfully and gave Burt a run for his money along with his creepy Henchmen, one played by a 7 foot tall monster of a man. Veteran character actor Jack Weston does a great job playing the fish outta water NYC detective, hired by the local governor to locate and blackmail McKlusky into going after his friend. Weston and Reynolds really work well as a comedic team, and I would have liked to see more movies with them together. Lauren Hutton Plays the sexy female lead back in her glory days as a leading actress and did a good enough job, but nothing super special. I really liked how the film would have these laugh out loud moments, then go to a super serious scene that usually involved some real issues such as underage prostitution, poverty and drug use. All in all this film was well balanced with the comedy, action and drama. Not to mention this was Burt Reynolds first directing gig and I would have to say this was one hell of a way to start out. Reynolds does a few creative shots, and the lighting is actually shot better here than in the previous film. The action scenes were just works of art if you're a fan of boat chases and bar fights. I'll also add that I really dug the 70s southern funk soundtrack. Jerry Reed also did the awsome theme song that starts during the opening credits.
Pretty much If you're a fan of 70s action comedies and like your movies with a bit of a southern flavor, you can't go wrong with Gator.
