No Country for Old Men 2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
A great movie with some fine actors especially Javier Bardem who I have not seen in anything before. He has a certain screen presence and voice that is perfect for this role. A simple plot about a man on the run after finding two million dollars at a drug deal gone bad in the desert, only problem is the ultimate bad ass killer really wants it back! For me this felt like a modern day western which is very intense and well directed. It does have some strange moments and throws up questions about violence, bad people and bad times along the way. I just thought the ending could have been better. However it is well worth a lot of the praise it has got so far.

Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
I have finally got round to seeing this and watched the extended version. This is a great film about the relationship between a Hitman and a 12 year old girl left orphaned after her family is killed. It is violent without being too graphic or brutal. This is nothing like your typical action, assassin film and has some great scenes between the two lead characters. A little strange but a classic and I'm not surprised it has reached a cult status.
3
Assassins 1995,  R)
Assassins
A cool fun film, great lead characters, never tire of watching it.
4
In the Line of Fire 1993,  R)
In the Line of Fire
A cool thriller with a strong cast as Eastwood tries to stop an assassination on the president......something he has failed at in the past!
5
Collateral 2004,  R)
Collateral
Very good film, didn't think Cruise cast as an assassin would work, but it does. Cool film.
6
Lucky Number Slevin 2006,  R)
Lucky Number Slevin
Very cool film with a good twist, if you like assassin films you should like this.
7
The Jackal 1997,  R)
The Jackal
Finally got round to seeing this, been meaning to for years! This is a very enjoyable action/thriller centered around a hunt for an elusive hitman. The emphasis is definitely on the action, seeing Willis go through about 10 different looks as a master of disguise was fun. The tension builds as the day of the hit gets closer, will the FBI and Russian agents be able to stop him? This has a great cast including Richard Gere, Sidney Poitier and even Jack Black makes an early film appearance. The whole Manhunt, assassin films have been done bigger and better since this was made. However this is still a classy enjoyable film.
8
The International 2009,  R)
The International
I thought this was a good conspiracy action/ thriller with a good cast. It's a very entertaining film with a good plot, it's enjoyable watching all the plot lines unfold and the connections made to take them on to the next lead. The film is shot in many locations including New York, Milan, Turkey and almost has a slight Bond, Bourne ultimatum feel to it. The shoot out at the Guggenheim gallery in New York has been one of the best I've seen since Heat. A solid well made film that should appeal to action, thriller fans or fans of the similar films mentioned.
9
State of Play 2009,  PG-13)
State of Play
A very good, intelligent, political/conspiracy thriller. It has a strong all star cast including the welcome edition of Helen Mirren playing the straight talking editor. Plenty of good twists and turns along the way as the plot slowly unravels. You watch it in anticipation of what might happen next. One of the better political thrillers I have seen in a long time.
10
Ninja Assassin 2009,  R)
Ninja Assassin
An all out exercise for the eye-balls! This is a very violent, extremely bloody/gory martial arts film. I think they must use the same techniques used by Asian cinema with almost fountains of blood with every slice and dice of a Ninja sword. Revenge is the plot, of course....way over the top, humanely impossible action scenes, some cool effects and some great fights. It makes Kill Bill look tame in comparison.
11
Hitman 2007,  R)
Hitman
This is an enjoyable action film with plenty of cool action sequences, shoot-outs and chases. It's based on the series of popular video games and stays quite true to parts of the games. The way the missions are relayed, location, suit, outfit changes and even some of the tactics used in the game are shown in the film. So this should keep the games fans happy. For everyone else this is just a cool stylized action film, which reminded me of the Transporter films quite a bit.
12
Smokin' Aces 2007,  R)
Smokin' Aces
A quality film with one or two twists. Also featuring the most over the top assassins possible!
13
Bangkok Dangerous 2008,  R)
Bangkok Dangerous
An ok action film with a decent enough production. Some odd storylines, plot developments but the action more than makes up for it. However you might like something along the lines of Vantage Point better, similar in some respects.
14
The Replacement Killers 1998,  R)
The Replacement Killers
A very cool stylized action film with plenty of shoot outs and a good cast. If you missed this it's well worth a watch.
15
The Specialist 1994,  R)
The Specialist
A very good action/thriller about a bomb specialist going after the mafia for revenge.
16
Shooter 2007,  R)
Shooter
A great action film with a good plot, lots of shooting, explosions that keeps a fast adrenalin pumping pace throughout. It's a little predictable and Danny Glover talks like he is wearing a gum shield for some reason!? Overall though I thought it is very similar and just as good as The Bourne Identity. So if you like that check this out!!
17
Most Wanted 1997,  R)
Most Wanted
This is a pretty decent action film, not heard of it before but it's pretty good if it was a straight to DVD release. The first 10 minutes are almost identical to Shooter released this year and the story is very similar. If you enjoyed that you should like this......any film with Jon Voight as the bad guy is worth watching!!
18
Killers 2010,  PG-13)
Killers
Quite poor overall I felt, looked like it could have been fun, but misses the mark badly. Not that funny, not many great action scenes and by the end I thought it was just about to get going, then the credits rolled! Knight and Day is much better in every department and came out around the same time, watch that instead.
19
Knight & Day 2010,  PG-13)
Knight & Day
A great over the top action comedy. So much action is packed into such a short film, it never lets up. There is a good chemistry between the leads and some witty dialogue, lots of exotic locations and great stunt scenes. There is enough to keep everyone happy. A mix of True Lies, Bond, and a Rom-com. A fun lighthearted enjoyable film that has something for everyone.
20
Wild Target 2010,  PG-13)
Wild Target
A decent little English comedy about an aging hitman who lives his life by strict rules and discipline. This all goes out the window when he can't kill his latest target a young con-artist and is aided by a young runaway in trying to protect her. It has quite a few funny moments and some very British humour in this black comedy. A great cast raise the standard and it has a certain charm about it.
21
Surveillance 2008,  R)
Surveillance
A pretty decent straight to DVD thriller with a familiar cast. It's quite entertaining but really relies on the twist, which is good but most film fans will probably work out early on. Still a nice change from the norm.
22
Daredevil 2003,  PG-13)
Daredevil
Average action film with good SFX. Has a few good fight scenes but overall something is missing to make it a great film.
23
Elektra 2005,  PG-13)
Elektra
A good very underrated action film. Has some good martial arts fights and SFX! You might like this if you enjoy manga films as well.
24
Ultraviolet 2006,  PG-13)
Ultraviolet
I was hoping for a lot more. If anything this has a bit too much cgi, although it helps with a comic book feel to it. Some scenes will make you think you're watching a computer game. It's a mix of Aeon Flux, Blade and Kill Bill but without the blood or gore of the last two. Could have been better.
25
Blood: The Last Vampire 2009,  R)
Blood: The Last Vampire
A good story for a film, based on the Anime film....from what I saw almost scene for scene the same? Sadly this is ruined by really dodgy CGI for the blood and gore. Some of the creature design is not so good either, and you'd barely known it had a vampire in it. It has a couple of great sword fights but not enough to save the film.
26
Hero 2002,  PG-13)
Hero
One of the best martial arts films I have ever seen. Beautiful, breathtaking film!!
27
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long) 2003,  PG-13)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long)
A great eastern martial arts film. A good story with some well known eastern actors. It drags a little in the middle but it has some of the best fight choreography of any martial arts film. Worth seeing for that alone!
28
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu) 2004,  PG-13)
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu)
A very stylised martial arts film, brilliantly shot with great cinematography. The story is not as good as Hero but otherwise very similar.
29
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower) 2006,  R)
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower)
I was disappointed to be honest, I had hoped this would be as good as Hero. Visually it is stunning, bright and colourful with great attention to detail. However on the action and fighting side it is a let down. Not much happens for the first hour, there are some good fights towards the end but didn't live up to expectation!
30
Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
A very comic book like action film as one lady seeks a hell of a lot of revenge. The fight against the Crazy 88 is excellent.
31
Kill Bill, Volume 2 2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
Not as brutal, bloody as the first but still has plenty of good fights. Shows how she trained to become an assassin and fills in the missing pieces from the first.
32
The Last Samurai 2003,  R)
The Last Samurai
A great film, not a lot of action but has some great fight scenes.
33
Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai 1999,  R)
Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai
Iwas expecting a lot more from the title. Doesn't have a great deal of action and can be quite odd at times. The last 20mins of the film make up for it. If you like assassin films you will like this.
34
War (Rogue Assassin) 2007,  R)
War (Rogue Assassin)
This is a pretty good action film featuring an assassin who seems to be playing off the Triads and Yukuza against each other. There is plenty of action, car chase, shootouts, sword fights and quite brutal to. Maybe some of the fight scenes could have been a bit better or more of them but overall this is a quality film worth checking out.
35
Vantage Point 2008,  PG-13)
Vantage Point
A very good enjoyable action/thriller with a good cast. There may be a few plot lines you think that wouldn't happen etc but overall seeing the different interactions between the main characters from each view point was good. It has some slight twists and a pretty damn good car chase to!
36
Shoot 'Em Up 2007,  R)
Shoot 'Em Up
A great all out action film. Totally over the top action and violence in this rather slick, stylish film. It's a mix of Sin City, Kill Bill, Smokin' Aces and a hint of Pulp Fiction to. So if you like any of those, you'll get a blast from this and know what to expect!
37
The Bourne Identity 2002,  PG-13)
The Bourne Identity
A classy action film with great fights, a brilliant car chase and twists and turns.
38
The Bourne Supremacy 2004,  PG-13)
The Bourne Supremacy
A good sequel to the first film with more of the same action. Thhe plot can be a bit confusing at times and it doesn't quite have the same charm as the first, but still good.
39
The Bourne Ultimatum 2007,  PG-13)
The Bourne Ultimatum
A very good action film, doesn't link up to well with the end of the second film though, but a good end to the trilogy!
40
Road to Perdition 2002,  R)
Road to Perdition
A good period crime drama as Tom Hanks plays a hit man with a difficult choice to make. Quite a long, slow film with not a lot of action but great stoytelling. Very well made.
41
Aeon Flux 2005,  PG-13)
Aeon Flux
A pretty good sci-fi/action romp. Set in the future of a big bro government set up where Charlize Theron will try to assassinate the leader.
42
2 Days in the Valley 1996,  R)
2 Days in the Valley
A strange film following the lives of a few characters who all get mixed up in each others lives during 2 days in the valley. Stars a young Terri Hatcher and Charlize Theron in unusual roles for both. Similar idea to Crash but no where near as good.
43
Unleashed (Danny the Dog) 2005,  R)
Unleashed (Danny the Dog)
This is terrible, avoid it!
44
Warriors of Heaven and Earth (Tian di ying xiong) 2003,  R)
Warriors of Heaven and Earth (Tian di ying xiong)
A good big battle epic film with some good fight scenes with a Western style feel to it.
45
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
Very slick stylish film, great visuals. Kind of Pulp fiction meets comic book.
46
The Tournament 2009,  R)
The Tournament
A simple if entertaining action film. A plot that has been done quite a few times now, this time based around a group of assassins taking over a small town every 7 years for a battle royale to find the last one standing. Tons of action in this, some good fights, chase scenes and stunts and quite a bit of blood. The standard of the cast including Ving Rhames, Ian Somerhalder of Vampire Diaries, and the pace of the film raise it above average. Very enjoyable eye fodder!
47
Red 2010,  PG-13)
Red
A great action comedy with an all star cast! Seemed to get more serious in the second half of the film where the action was cranked up a bit, but this has plenty of laughs along the way as well. Good to see all these actors in the same film doing a comedy!
48
The Sentinel 2006,  PG-13)
The Sentinel
Not as good as I hoped it would be, but still entertaining.
49
Salt 2010,  PG-13)
Salt
I'm not a big fan of Angelina Jolie to be honest. However I still found this a good spy action/thriller. It has tons of action, stunts, chases, shootouts and a few twists a long the way all packed into 90 minutes. A good entertaining action flick if nothing new or outstanding.
50
Wanted 2008,  R)
Wanted
A very enjoyable action film with some great SFX and a brill car chase. You really need to switch your brain off though as it is all very unbelievable. Some might see it as a Matrix wannabe, no bad thing, but it's not up to those levels. Still a good film and worth watching if you like cool, action films.
51
Mr. & Mrs. Smith 2005,  PG-13)
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
A cool assassin based with with Mr and Mrs trying to kill each other!
52
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
The worst of all 6 in my opinion. It has good characters and SFX, the Pod race saved this film! However the script reads like a book for 5 year olds!....not to mention Jar Jar Binks?
53
The Terminator 1984,  R)
The Terminator
A top film and one of the best action films of the 80's.
54
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Lost count how many times I have seen this, doesn't look outdate even today. A very good action film, one of Arnie's best!
55
Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines 2003,  R)
Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines
Not as bad as the critics made out. Still has tons of action and Arnie got in top shape for the role again......and Kristanna Loken looks pretty hot as the Terminatrix.
56
Last Action Hero 1993,  PG-13)
Last Action Hero
Often over looked or forgotten about, this is a pretty good action film based on a nice idea.....if a tad long.
57
The Warrior's Way 2010,  R)
The Warrior's Way
Hmm Ninjas Vs Cowboys may as well be the title. Visually very impressive and stylized. Think Sky Captain, 300 meets Crouching Tiger for a slick look. Unfortunately despite a good cast it lacks any punch! The type of story done too many times before. Sadly the action scenes look pretty but have very little action! A real missed opportunity with a better story and longer action scenes it could have been a cult hit.
58
The Manchurian Candidate 2004,  R)
The Manchurian Candidate
A very slow odd film that takes too long to get to the point.....by which time it does, you won't care what is going on.
59
The Naked Gun - From the Files of Police Squad! 1988,  PG-13)
The Naked Gun - From the Files of Police Squad!
Probably my favourite spoof film, always makes me laugh.
60
Mercury Rising 1998,  R)
Mercury Rising
An ok thriller about an austic boy who manages to unlock a password system for the ministry of defence. Therefore placing his life in danger as Bruce Willis tries to protect from the goverment he works for.
61
Patriot Games 1992,  R)
Patriot Games
a good entertaining political action/thriller. It has a strong cast and worth watching when you can.
62
The Untouchables 1987,  R)
The Untouchables
A great period crime drama/action film. Great performance from Sean Connery, pity wasn't more of De Niro in this as Al Capone.
63
The Man with the Golden Gun 1974,  PG)
The Man with the Golden Gun
One of the best Bond films in my eyes. Love the villian, my fave Bond actor and a stunning location. What more could you want from Bond!
64
GoldenEye 1995,  PG-13)
GoldenEye
The best Bond film I've seen so far! That includes Casino Royale. Just has good actors, locations, story, stunts.....everything you want in a Bond film.
65
A View to a Kill 1985,  PG)
A View to a Kill
One of Roger Moore's best Bond films.
66
The World Is Not Enough 1999,  PG-13)
The World Is Not Enough
In my top 3 Bond films. Has some great scenes in it, plenty of action and a strong cast.
67
The Spy Who Loved Me 1977,  PG)
The Spy Who Loved Me
Not one of Roger's best Bond films but it has that cool underwater Lotus!!!
68
Moonraker 1979,  PG)
Moonraker
A pretty good Bond film, but the space scenes are far from great.
69
Live and Let Die 1973,  PG)
Live and Let Die
A contender for on of Moore's best Bond films.
70
Casino Royale 2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
Started brilliantly, slowed a little in the middle but overall was enjoyable. Much grittier than other James Bond films.
71
Quantum of Solace 2008,  PG-13)
Quantum of Solace
A very good action film continuing right on from Casino Royale. Plenty of action, chases and explosions. Has a certain Bourne Trilogy feel to a lot of the stunts and fights. The Bond films now are more gritty, raw without the tongue in cheek humour of the past films. One for all out action entertainment but not the best story for a Bond film.
72
Diamonds Are Forever 1971,  PG)
Diamonds Are Forever
A very average Bond outing, thought I had seen it before, but maybe I couldn't remember it. There isn't much of it that stands out? Not up there with the best of them in terms of plot, villains, action, stunts and chases. Watching it now it seems very outdated, you can see where Austin Powers got most of the jokes from in this. The only real plus was the Tiffany Case character in very little!
73
Dr. No 1962,  PG)
Dr. No
The first James Bond and still one of the best.
74
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 1997,  PG-13)
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
A very funny film spoofing the James Bond films largely.
75
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me 1999,  PG-13)
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
Quite funny but seemed to just reload a lot of the best stuff from the first and it's not as funny second time round. Still has plenty of good moments but not as good as the first I thought.
76
Austin Powers in Goldmember 2002,  PG-13)
Austin Powers in Goldmember
It's starting to look a bit dated now, and has a tendency to re-cycle the gags from the first two, and has too many song moments. If you're a fan of the first two you will still enjoy it, but it's not as good as the first one. However I loved the cameos in the opening 5 mins of the film, great idea.
77
Young Sherlock Holmes 1985,  PG-13)
Young Sherlock Holmes
A great all too little known film from '86. Set in Sherlock Holmes school days setting the story background as he becomes the worlds most famous detective. I remember seeing this at the cinema and is just the sort of film full of action and adventure everyone should love. Steven Spielberg was involved in the production and it shows. This film has a feel to it like the Mummy and Indiana Jones films. It also has some very good SFX for the time. If you have missed this film then you are missing out, track it down!
78
DOA: Dead or Alive 2007,  PG-13)
DOA: Dead or Alive
Probably the best game to film adaptation so far. Really keeps the feel of the game with flashy graphic scenes just like playing the game. The charaters are true to the game and the fights very impressive. Complete with the sexy female charaters and it couldn't be any more like the game.
79
The Da Vinci Code 2006,  PG-13)
The Da Vinci Code
I've not read the book but heard it was good so thought I'd see what the fuss was about. Panned by critics but the film is quite good in a puzzle solving way.
80
Angels & Demons 2009,  PG-13)
Angels & Demons
A very well made film with a good cast. As good as the Da Vinci code, although prefer that one slightly over this. Good acting performances all round. I hadn't read the book on this so didn't know the story at all, but right from the start I knew who was behind it all. So a bit obvious in that respect. Still a very enjoyable film though.
81
True Lies 1994,  R)
True Lies
One of my favourite action films, with plenty of humour almost like 2 films in one!
82
Mission Impossible 1996,  PG-13)
Mission Impossible
Very good action film like the plot twists and turns, bit over the top at times but still a very good film.
83
Mission Impossible 2 2000,  PG-13)
Mission Impossible 2
Has some cool stunts but the storyline is weaker than the first.
84
Mission: Impossible III 2006,  PG-13)
Mission: Impossible III
Cool action film, better than the second. It has plenty of action from all around the globe with a true gritty style to it. One of the best action films in recent years!!
85
Rush Hour 2 2001,  PG-13)
Rush Hour 2
Even more funny than the first. This time set in Hong Kong, they get caught up in a triad counterfeit money operation. Has some great fights to and Chris Tucker is hilarious.
86
Unknown 2011,  PG-13)
Unknown
A very good action thriller with a good cast and high production values. It has some nice touches and good twists along the way. Remanded me in part of a few other films like Frantic, The Fugitive, Taken etc. All good films, unravels a bit quick towards the end, but the suspense up to then is great. Well worth checking out.
87
Faster 2010,  R)
Faster
A decent revenge action type of film. It's doesn't beat around the bush, it's quite brutal at times, throw in some fast cars, a quirky hitman, a downbeat cop, you know what to expect from this and it delivers it. It has quite a good supporting cast with a fair few familiar faces, plenty of shoot-outs, fights and the odd car chase or two. A very enjoyable film for your action needs.
88
Weekend at Bernie's 1989,  PG-13)
Weekend at Bernie's
A silly yet fun and enjoyable comedy from the 80's. A typical comedy of the time, one for a blast from the past!
89
Killer Elite 2011,  R)
Killer Elite
A very good action/thriller with a great cast and strong story based on a book about real SAS events in the 80's. Certainly a level above most of Jason Statham's recent action films which keep being churned out very often. If you like a bit of depth to back up the action this is the film for you.
90
Marvel's The Avengers 2012,  PG-13)
Marvel's The Avengers
A brilliant film combining lots of super heroes from some impressive films over the last few years. It's non-stop action all the way, amazing special effects that set a new standard, full of wit and great one liners as well. It's the must see film of the year, get to the cinema now!
91
The Losers 2010,  PG-13)
The Losers
A very good film, for some reason from the Title I thought this was more of a comedy, but it's actually a very good action film. It seemed very similar to the A team and a bit like the Expendables, although not quite as violent. It has a good cast and big production, plenty to keep the action junkie entertained.
