Alice in Wonderland
just venting...not my real review

Let's see... hmmmm... Johnny Depp was surprising at scenes but overall just didn't seem right for the role. Crispin Glover was twangy and ridiculous, seemed more fitting to be the Hatter but lacks the charism to pull it of, while Depp coul've been a good Knave. The roles should've been switched I think. And by the end I thought Crispin was in need of saying "Hey you get your damn hands off her" - just as a joke to Back to the Future, not serious about him saying that. Mia was boring and didn't do much. The March Hare was hysterical. The Doodoo was talked as an imporatnt elemnet in Alice's dreams at the beginning but was rarely seen in Wonderland. and I was just like I had enough of this when Christopher Lee pops up voicing the Jabberwocky. Burton squeezed those actors from his prevoius films right in as Cameos, this includes Alan Rickman as the Blue Catipiller. What else... uh... Anne Hathaway was like Enchanted's Giselle that goty a libotamy. You can tell its a Burton film tho. Mostly when the real world is in place. The dude with the big nose, bulged eyes and orange hair screams out Burton the way it bugs around the envornment. This was like what Hook did to Peter Pan. it took a clasic story and tried to come up with a sort of sequel-remake thing. I was appoled by the weight of it. it seemed like 2 and a half hours and it started to drag on a litte. my "enough is enough" mind set occured when Depp's Hatter talks of some silly dance and a riddle of how a Raven is like a desk...i think. the end results of both the dance and riddle with theis movie forms a disspointing return for Burton with Disney and retelling for Alice in Wonderland. it leaves you thinking "was that good or bad?" the scale is balanced and it levels to just an average movie with the occasional thrill but left with enought to entertain. have fun at the movies!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I was ready to give this a straight up half star raiting, but it's not that bad. This is obciously a movie directed for much younder audiences, and becomes an annoying to anyone in their teens years or up, but the art direction and editing were very well planned and delivered. I can;pt say much for the characters or the script. It's just a typical school movie. We see two best friends and how they each handle middle school thoughout an entire year. They start off as friends, one gets popular, one becomes less popular, one gets betrayed, both ignore each other, and then they eventually make amends and become friends again. Not too interesting. But, it's not a total waste of time. It can be a fun watch if you give it a chance. But still, not that great of a movie.

Almost no redeeming quailties. This movie will be forgotten by the time the DVD comes out. It's basically a reimagining of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". Very few to no laughs and many unessicary cameos...like Jamie Foxx, Danny McBride, Juliette Lewis and of course Todd Phillips little appearance in this. If you've seen The Hangover then you get to see the same kinda jokes again.

I actually found alot of the jokes funny. Loved the references to John Hughes films. and how it made apparent of so many things in High School that havent been discussed in films until now

Enter the Void (Soudain le vide)
I just couldn't get into this movie. The direction is very different from most movies and this film has become a cult classic with a giant following right behind it. But for me it was a two-parter story that is a very repetitive, seizure inducing, mind mushing bore that is barely a film at all. It's a floating camera that captures sex and drugs. I would give credit to many of the longshots, over the shoulder shots, and POV consistency that is rarely used in films today, but it's not hard to figure out why that is after watching Enter the Void. It's a nauseating sigh of flashing colors and disgusting characters. It's one long gimic.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1
Just a set-up for the nest installment. A 2 and a half hour preview. Many of the big characters in the past Potters either make no or a very small appearance. This one probably runs the slowest of all the Potters and had too much filler while fans of the books would ague that it still left out a lot from the original story. I did however find much of the animated sequences to be the most interesting parts of the films. Like the story of the three brothers. The end of the film is intended to have the audience pulling there hair for 7 months until the next film. It wasn't the greatest of the series, but it did what it was supposed to do. Not a bad movie and despite my negativity I actually liked this movie.

Bottom line, if you like Harry Potter you'll like this, if not you won't.

I Love You Phillip Morris
The French promo from late 2008 made this movie look like a wonderfully outrages romantic comedy. After seeing that, I had to go out and find the book immediately. And when I did I wasn't disappointed. But when I finally got the chance to see the movie, I didn't benefit much from it. The pacing of the story in 100 minutes runs slower than it should. I respect both Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor's performances though both were limited by the script which didn't get to use the majority from the book.

Back to the French promo, what I loved about it was it starts off with this normal, Christian man with a wife and kids and straight as a can be, but after getting into a car accident, he suddenly becomes gay. I thought the premise was hilarious and amusing how he just all of a sudden becomes gay and extremely gay, too.

I did not get what I expected. Yes this is based of a true story and wouldn't be very faithful to change a key element of the story, however I didn't like how Steven Russell was telling that he was always gay but didn't admit it until after the car accident. This lost the illusion of how outrageous the movie could have been and made the humor more toned down than I liked it to be. The most outrageous it gets it's when a group of kids are lying down on the ground looking up at the sky, and Steven points to a cloud he thinks looks like a penis. Wouldn't you know it, that's what it was; the exact shape of a penis.

The movie runs really slow and not much happens. The relationship between Phillip Morris and Steven Russell isn't fully convincing, but not as dreadful as Ryan Reynold's and Sandra Bullock's from The Proposal. The prison breaks and every conning moment Russell has, including a recap of faking his own death, may be the most fun parts in the movie, but other than that, there's not much to look at.

The telling of the story did differ from the book, and I'm not much for comparing books to movies because they're two different forms of entertainment (like laser tag and rock climbing), but the interview in the beginning of the book expands throughout the entire length of the book would've been a nice touch instead of having Jim Carrey narrate his character's life with Phillip Morris.

Bottom line, I wanted more out of this film even if that meant making this a 2+ hour movie. The characters weren't too exciting or memorable and plot was heavily condensed from what really happened (obviously) or from the book. It takes too long for anything remotely intriguing to happen and only when Carrey is conning does it have any high points. The movie's not bad, but it is very empty. It does have a few laughs and will probably keep you some what entertained for the full 100 minutes, but it still seemed like more could have been added. It's at least worth a watch.

Inception 2010,  PG-13)
Inception
Not my review....do not read yet

Inception is a mind-bending thriller that hands out many questions before seeing the movie and raises even more after it's over. What has been a rather disappointing summer for movies arrives this original idea from the mind of Christopher Nolan. The idea for this movie began over ten years ago passing through influences in the script such as The Matrix and Dark City. The trailers for Inception were very ambiguous and lead on nothing really concrete on the movie was about. The effects were about all the movie really had going for it before seeing it. But more about that later.

Cobb runs a team of dream extractors that work for Sieto to invade the mind of a competing business's executive at his most vulnerable. After losing a fellow architect from a failed extraction job, Cobb and his right-hand man Arthur travel to Paris and aroudn the world to recruit new memebers for there next job. The recuits are a forger, an architect and a chemist. To get to the core of Robert Fischer they must enter under heavy sedation through layers of dreams; a dream in a dream.

A funny take on Superman and how hard it is too be evil when there's no good. As maniacal, sweet and light-heated as Despicable Me. A cute film for the family to enjoy. Yes, there's a lot of silly humor in it, but that's what makes it fun.

Piranha 3-D
Piranha 3D made me sick and cringe so many times. If it wasn't for Christopher Lloyd I would not have been able to make it through this movie.

It's basically a bloody porno that went beyond the R rating. I'm surprised it wasn't NC-17. It was fucked up. Cheesy yes, and dude, there's a scene where classical music is played and two girls are swimming naked up against each other. That was the movies lowest point...and the bit off penis. But I'll let you see for yourself. Christopher Lloyd is in it for like 3 or 4 minutes, but he's just awesome in those few minutes. He's like Doc in Back to the Future.

Repo Men 2010,  R)
Repo Men
The movie begans with a capture of the mid-point in the film and goes back to explain itself. The first 10 minutes of reposetion was subtle but shaped into a great comendear. While the movie only progressively becomes more violent, the plot deepens to be being almost oo over the top.

Set in a futrusitic time period the team of Remy (Jude Law) and Jake (Forest Whitaker) unfold in a union that allows anyone with failing organs to switch them out with atificial materials. What exactly do these guys do? Do they work a desk job persuading every desperate client into a lifesavings worth of transplants? Theses men reposese unpaid organs. Given the title and synopsis, it can only be conjured how often that happens.

Jude Law leads as Remy; a husband and father. He starts of with a highly grossing revinue of a job that his wife doesn't agree with. Probably becuase he's killing thousands of casual people for a pretty price and no remorse what so ever. His character has been another recycled action sterotype that has been seen in films for over the past 40 years. His acting is what can be expected a usual, but with a deliquant charm that makes this character almost more likeable than nything else he's done.

For some reason, I just don't like anything Forest Whitaker does. His muster is stuck in one mode. I've noticed he always must be a brute, sidekick at times, but mostly just the cocky asshole who feels sorry for himself in the end. This marks back from Fast Times at Ridgemont High and even skips around to The Crying Game. There's nothing special here from him.

The supporting cast I don't want much to deal with. Especially the few cameos that make it out in here. John Lengizamo seems to only be able to garner small 5-minute roles these days. Look back to Gamer. Placed in the background and forgotten right after the movie ended.

Now, apart from just how the cast did and how violent this movie becomes, Repo Men does manage a sense of humor with it's dark, sedistic quirks. But it's just so wrapped up in cliches that it can't seem to make fun of itself in doing so.

Overall this movie is a good buddy film to see with a couple of friends and not bad for a Saturday night fling. This is not a movie to be taken by surprise becuse all that's in here is relatively staples of the average Action flick. That' not to say it won't be a fun ride becuase it certainly tries to be.

Room In Rome (habitacion En Roma)
-"And what if I'm not Russian?"
-"Come on, you have to be Russian. I love that."
-"Well, then I am.

Room in Rome is an Italian film that follows two women and there sexual escapades in a hotel room.

While this movie tries desperately hard to be sypathetic and artistic, it does nothing more than recycle love story trash that breaks itself down into two different intertwining serpents. Three minutes of storytelling and three minutes of untriggered softcore porn, an alternating pattern that goes on for two hours.

Nothing about how these two met or why the less curious half continues to be involed make any sense or are even explained.

The writing is bad. And I mean bad. It's trying to be a love story, but neither lead acts liek they're in love. They act like they bored and just to to occupy there own time. The script piles on nauseating word choices, progressive pretentiousness and sexplotives. The acting performances only make these traits worse.

Other than the atrotious writting and little attention to character development, of which Room in Rome seems to be most about, is the constant reminder of sex. As the film went on it seemed like there always had to be someone completely nude on screen. The movie would stopped at a hault if there wasn't full frontal exposure during every frame.

I thought it was just like the first except with 1-uped special effects. I didn't really like it becuase of how long it dragged on and how boring it got. But Daft Punk's soundtrack was freaking awesome and that's what kept me going. I might need to rewatch it anyway. But the thing is I pumped myself up for it for such a long time that it was inevitable that I was going to dislike it. That's just how the world works.

I'm siding with Spill.com on this. The first 40 minutes of the movie were cool and stylized and action-packed, and then it just became an 80-minute stretch finish up the movie. I hated how Clu became a dictator, but I did enjoy Michael Sheen as Castor (thought I wouldn't because of how much he resembles David Bowie back in the day) and Daft Punk's score. Other than that, it's just another movie waiting to make its way into the Walmart $5 bin.
